The Calypso twins have the same backstory as Angel

I'm sure that I'm not the first person to realize this, but I have to talk about it otherwise I'll explode. As we hear it in BL3 Tyreen Calypso killed her mom in an accident involving her siren powers, how did Angel's mom die? In an accident involving Angel's powers. Angel has a bad, complicated relationship with her father, what do the Calypso twins have? A bad, complicated relationship with their father. The Calypso's were kept on Nekrowhatever because their father wanted to keep them safe and away from the rest of the world, Angel was kept in a cell so she'd be safe from the world. Literally down to having a famous dad, the Calypso's have a worse done version of Angel's backstory. It pisses me off so much, the writing in 3 is already lazy and uninspired, but the fact they copied one of the most well done, fan favorite stories from their previous game and slapped onto the Calypso's in an attempt to make them more interesting villains is almost an insult to the people who care about these games and their story.

okay idc if anyone sees this i just need to spit it out people gotta stop shitting on the story of Borderlands 3 and actually just play the game without complaining because i personally think the story is still great and its so obnoxious not being able to find any positive videos that talk about it Like yes, i understand it definitely doesn't live up to the other games and it can be annoying how much everyone talks, but if you actually LISTEN there's so many cool tidbits Like how Tyreen and Angel are such direct parallels of each other, and how even sometimes Tyreen & Troy and Aurelia & Sir Hammerlock can be parallels Or how Mouthpiece introduces Tyreen as "the first sister" in regards to the Calypsos which can add further onto Troy trans headcanons and shit??? I genuinely adore this game and it has got to be my favourite batch of Vault Hunters thus far, and while some of the humor didn't age amazingly I still think it has its funny moments and getting to revisit some of my favourite characters is so fun and sillyy

This was supposed to be for Mermay, but I got sick towards the end whoops. Anyways Mermay with the Borderlands Sirens but as actual sirens. And yes I’m adding Rhys, I love the Au where he’s secretly a siren like come on.

AU time: Sirens are their own race of mermaids that many people fear due to their powerful nature. They “guard” Eridian found at the bottom of the ocean, so many people try to befriend them in hopes of getting to the previous mineral. My lil thought for this is how Angel came to be. Handsome Jack may have seduced her mother or something along the lines idk

To the fish parts: I started off picking fish that best resembles the Sirens aesthetic but later changed it to which sea creature better matches with their abilities and it was a lot of fun.

Steele - barracuda; I couldn’t find info on her abilities so I just did one that matches her personality and name.

Lilith - fire hawkfish; matches her alias and her color scheme.

Tannis - spotted torpedo; this is where I begin picking fish that matches their abilities. Because she has angel’s tech powers, I picked the spotted torpedo that can shock its prey.

Maya - sea Angel; picked this one due to its cool mucus net it spits out when catching prey and it was the closest thing I could find for her phaselock. Fly high maya

Ava - sea butterfly; same way of hunting as the sea Angel and she has the same abilities so ya.

Angel - glass knifefish; another electric fish but it had a soft color pallet that I thought would match Angel more

Amara - peacock mantis shrimp; these dudes punch with the power of the sun and are known to break fingers and tanks. It was a no brainer picking this guy for Amara and for a flashy little guy I thought he fit Amara’s big personality.

Tyreen - lamprey; she absorbs the life force out of people and this dude is known for sucking the blood out of its prey. It’s right there

Troy - angler fish; the male sticks onto the female and leech off of them I thought it fit perfectly

Rhys - electric eel; I feel like he would have a tech ability similar to Angel so electric eel

I wish I could’ve done more research I think I would find better fishes for them but oh well anyways my borderlands obsession is coming back and I don’t know why enjoy

Scenario: The Calypso Twins (Separate) open a vault but don't realise the danger they put you in.

TYREEN CALYPSO

They finally opened a vault without the vault thiefs getting in their way.

Troy had been stood beside her to her right and you to her left. You looked to her as if she had placed the stars in the sky, so much pride and hope. All for her.

And she had mimicked these looks back at you.

Until it wasn't there, and instead replaced with fear, hurt, disappointment. Until the light drained from your eyes. Until you were gone.

The Vault monster's claws sheathed within your ribcage while your intestines pour out from the lower slices through you.

She leeches the Vault monster without a single word spoken. Her anger is silent and quickly subsides when she sees your corpse hit to floor finally

Troy wasn't close to you but he respectfully bows his head, the cov followers do the same. Tyreen grits her teeth and stands up away from you.

"Let's go. We have what we need."

And then she leaves. Without you. Without what she actually needed.

TROY CALYPSO

You came with him to the Jakobs Estate, Aurelia tried to put the moves on him but you weren't letting that slide. Unless you could join.

He ran off after the last Jakobs and you ran to make sure the Vault Thiefs didn't get you.

But they did.

A little before getting to Aurelia.

Troy found you in the gardens, bullet wounds all over. Blood seeping past your lips. Skin pale. Eyes faded. Jaw bruised.

He yells out in anguish and rushes to you. He drops to his knees.

Nobody is around to help you, no cult members, no Tyreen, nobody.

He gathers you up into his arms and sobs into your chest. Tears flowing freely and eventually into your wounds, but you do not feel the stinging that you would normally feel from salty tears entering a wound.

You're already gone.

You were what grounded him. Kept him from snapping at Tyreen. Kept him from hurting important members of the cult. You protected him when he needed it. You gave him praise for simply being himself.

He loved--no. He loves you. He'll continue loving you until the day he dies. In fact, he can't wait.

He wants your smile, your laughter, your warmth. But all he receives is a cadaver as cold as Windshear Waste.

"I'm sorry, Y/n. I love you I love you I love you..." His babbling is all that can be heard for the rest of the night in the Jakobs Garden.

I think it’s about time I ramble about how I think sirens born with their powers should be different from the rest (below the cut)

How do folks born as siren come to be?

You see, born sirens happen when the previous owner of the power dies without choosing anyone as a successor and there’s no one anywhere near who is “suitable” for the power.

In that case, what the power does instead is it travels to a forming embryo. It will then have a major impact on the development of the future baby, making it have strange features seen on no other human.

Such sirens can also be called “full sirens”, as the power has always been part of them.

Also, the mothers of such sirens get a fraction of power as well, though it’s very limited.

So far, known full sirens are commandant Steele, Maya and the Calypso twins.

What special traits are we talking about?

There’s a few things.

- The most noticeable one is probably the tattoos. Full sirens are born with tattoos present on both sides of their body. Also, unlike the classic google map cursor heart tattoo, full sirens have a different heart tattoo which’s appearance depends on the power.

- They tend to be very tall (except for Tyreen she’s still a tiny motherfucker)

- Their hair colour is naturally the colour of their power (looks at Maya hey now you dont have to spend so much on hair dye!)

- Their pointed ears tend to be longer than the avg siren ears

- Their eyes are really special: sclera is black, irises are often multicoloured to really fit the power (example: Maya’s irises have the colour scheme of the phaselock bubble) and their pupils can adapt to the dark to a cat’s extent

- Fangs fangs fangs!! Their teeth are sharp and they have vampire like fangs

- They overall have more ease with their abilities, as they were born with them and it’s a part of them.

- They can read eridian writings with enough practice

- They can see past sirens and know who will be the next ones.

- When a full siren looses a limb, their tattoos will form a new limb by simply following the pattern of the missing limb as if it was there, but theres just. The tattoos. Idk if yall get what i mean. It works as a limb, its just a magic one!

- Im still thinking about this and the idea pf slapping a reference to mythology sirens into this. Yknow, either by slapping feathers or feathers AND wings on em. We get silly!!

- And other possible ideas im putting in the could be born siren traits! Claws! Eridium smoke breath! Coloured skeleton! Who knows, I’m experimenting!

Anyways that was my ted talk of full sirens. If you have any more ideas on that feel free to share em!! This idea is still much a wip!!🍿
