Something something about the Institute being a sect of the Eye vs the OIAR so heavily resembling the Web.

You can't leave either, but the difference between knowing you can't leave and you're doomed to be trapped here (eye, knowledge) vs. being given the illusion of choice and still being dragged back (web, out of control)

The Institute being a place to collect statements and research vs. the OIAR sending Externals out and creating the monsterous statements that show up in the database.

Teddy and Melanie both haunting the narrative whilst still living because, even though they both left, they're still inexplicably tied to the Institute/OIAR through some force.

The way that each of the OIAR members are a foil of one of the members of the Archive team and are slowly following in the unbreakable pattern that'll doom them (Colin dying alone due to an artifact like Sasha and having his essence absorbed into something possibly monsterous, Alice having a brother who jumps between bands like Danny jumped between hobbies, Gwen being put in a work position that she's fully and completely unqualified for like Elias when Jonah took over him, Sam being far too curious for his own good and that slowly leading to his doom like Jon, and Celia constantly lying and manipulating things while coming off as innocent and well-meaning like Martin)

They're all repeating history, and it will kill them all.

Alice inviting Sam and Celia to the show seems less like trying to fuck w Sam or his relationship (or even flirting w then both) and more like she's fucking lonely. she might have genuinely wanted them there, cuz, y'know, hanging out w people is how you make and keep friends generally. like,,,, before Celia it sounded like Sam and Alice were chillin' at work and had regular banter but since Celia showed up Sam's attention is all on her and hes started treating every interaction with Alice as an annoyance (and just generally being grumpy, if you consider his interaction w Gwen that one time). plus it's not like Gwen has time for Alice to even mess w her anymore. everything is changing and I don't think Alice is taking it well

I've always been left disappointed by the endings of Pride and Prejudice adaptations because, for me, they never quite capture that satisfied feeling I get each time I finish reading the novel, as I close the book with a contended sigh and imagine Elizabeth and Mr Darcy's happy lives together.

That was until I watched Pride and Prejudice (1967) because this ending is, in my opinion, close to perfection. So, so good. I'll yell it from the rooftops: Run to YouTube and WATCH THIS ADAPTATION IMMEDIATELY!!

Seriously, despite being filmed on a toaster, the ending had me giggling, kicking my feet, twirling my hair etc. and now I need to share the loveliness with all of you.

The wedding takes place off-screen and the next time we see them post-proposal is as they journey back to Pemberley together:

It's so romantic in the carriage. Look how much they're in love🥹!!

And there's a lovely exchange where Elizabeth teases Mr Darcy:

Look at his face!! He just realised that being the object of many jokes is how it's going to be for the rest of his life!

I won't spoil the dialogue but if, like me, you get frustrated that most adaptations omit the lovely post-engagement exchanges between the happy couple, where they discuss just how they ended up in love, then I promise P&P (1967) is going to leave you so satisfied.

But my favourite part is when the carriage stops on the grounds of Pemberley:

Darcy helps Elizabeth down in the sweetest manner and says 'welcome home, Mrs Darcy,'

before they walk off into their happily ever after together as the credits roll...🥺❤️

Just lovely. I cannot gush about it enough. If you have a spare couple of hours, it's definitely well worth a watch. You soon get used to the quality and even the accents, which sound very dated now, though I love how much character it brings to the whole thing to hear people speak in such a manner!

Plus, there is so much energy to this adaptation. It's not a stuffy old period drama by any means. It's wonderfully faithful to the book, well acted and even well-shot, for the time! It also benefits from not having the baggage of other adaptations hanging over it, that perhaps have influenced the interpretations of certain characters and dictated which scenes are included. I highly recommend it, it'll certainly help you look at the novel and characters in a fresh light!

Celia has been struggling at home all week since her last test came back worse than expected. Playing hooky from school certainly didn’t help her situation.

Max was surprised to get a group text from her that evening, pumping the whole gang into coming to the Vault for the last concert of the year. Everyone had gladly jumped at the occasion, except maybe Joana, who came just so she wouldn't feel left out, but clearly doesn’t want to be here.

Even Laura, who’s definitely out of her element, seems to be having the greatest time.

Her friends seemed concerned when they all got here. Celia said she was fine, that everything was fine. Max didn’t buy it, nor did anyone else. Shanna told him quietly to let it go. Something in the way she said it made him trust her. So he let it go, and everyone moved on to enjoy themselves. How he came to get stuck with Joana, though, he’s not quite sure. 

Chris and Lucas are finally here. They'd said they'd join them after work. Max had hoped they’d save him from hanging out alone with Joana, but they look more interested in joining the mosh pit.

“You’re not dancing?” Chris asks Joana.

“No! It’s much too violent.”

They don't even need to say anything. One look between them has Max containing his laughter with difficulty. Joana is not done with her rant, unfortunately. “I don’t know what they see in this. It’s so chaotic.”

It is chaotic. The music is not made to be pretty. Even when it tends more toward it, it has an edge, some kind of rawness, to it. 

Celia rides that chaos with ease. She looks so peaceful and beautiful in the midst of this crowd of stomping and trashing people. Max could sit there and watch her all night. He just wishes he could let go as easily and join her…

As if to answer his prayers, their eyes lock and Celia makes her way to him. She notices Chris and Lucas. “Hey! You made it! Are you guys coming into the mosh pit?”

Chris jumps at the invitation. “Definitely going.” 

Lucas grabs Joana by the shoulder. “Come on! I’m sure it’s way more fun out there!”

Max reluctantly lets Celia pull him into the crowd. “I’m not much of a dancer,” he shouts in her ear. “I don’t know how to-” Celia grabs his face enthusiastically. “That’s the beautiful thing: do you see anyone who cares?” He looks around. No. They don’t.

Max mimics the guy beside him under Celia’s silent encouragement. It’s simple enough, and he starts to loosen up a bit. Once he gets the hang of it, it’s actually quite cathartic. Even Joana gets into it.

i am in pieces on the floor. something about giles being the softened optimist in this world is really just.... like, initially i was kinda sitting here with some general exhausted impatience because i felt like they weren't utilizing him, but what does it say that the world is on fire and the children are destroyed but giles is actually arguably more stable? more centered? more recognizably unencumbered? this is not a giles that loved and lost jenny, ever. this is not the giles who in season five will say that the best way forward is to kill dawn. this is a version of giles who has never had to doubt his own morality or make calls that people don't like.

and this is not a sentence we would hear s3 giles saying. season three giles has no interest in arguing for the possibility of a better world. this is the ghost of a man we lost. sunnydale didn't kill him like it did in the real world. it is a quiet little change but it is driving me crazy.

she was the one who actually got the first Bonzo case back in Episode 10 just before Gwen actually gave Bonzo the envelope.

Sometimes I sort of play out stuff that actually happened to me with Magisterium characters and I think it helps but then it changes my opinion on the characters at least temporarily and it's sort of annoying.

Hopes and wishes for next season:

Yes, they find out Colin is dead. But he left tons of media for Alice to follow and find to help her solve the mystery. Because he really genuinely liked Alice, and wanted her to be able to UNDERSTAND and help and/or get away. It's heartbreaking to hear him go from grumbling to obsessive to horrified to quietly sad all over again. We mourn him as a forever what if, but he also helps Alice lots in Plot Related Stuff.

Sam!Comes!Back!Wrong!Sam!comes!back!a!litte!evil! Sam's tired of being nice, he's going full Apeshitt. I COULD see him only coming back mid-season or even as a GASP for the finale of s2 tho. But he's so main character coded, proobably more mid-season?

Very obviously Gwen is sooooo over her head. Gwen keeps messing up and trying to cover it up in more and more desperate ways until she HAS to ask someone for help (preferably Lena would be amazing, although Lena going "..No, thank you Gwen" would also be delicious).
