California Snowpack
Howard has prepared a report on the snowpack in the Washington Cascades. I thought that I might provide an update on the snowpack in the California mountains traversed by the PCT. We had an unusually warm autumn and the precipitation that fell was often rain. As a result, on January 1st, the Northern Sierra/Trinity Mountains snowpack was a paltry 32% of normal. The Central Sierra recorded 28% and the Southern Sierra 20% of normal.
The series of atmospheric rivers that have focused on California since have begun to make a rather dramatic improvement in the snowpack. By February 1, Northern Sierra/Trinity Mountains were at 63%, Central Sierra was 54%, and the Southern Sierra was 40%. This is a dramatic improvement that has continued for the first 19 days of the month . . . as of February 19, things looked like this:

From all reports, this coming week will continue to help the snowpack approach normal.
Big Bear Lake in Southern California is reporting a snowpack of 105% of normal. Mt. Laguna has forecast highs well above freezing now and through the coming week.

Along the Valley Floor, a passenger train of the San Joaquin Valley Lines makes its way through as it heads northbound to the small towns along the way before reaching Fresno. It's a nice warm afternoon, and the train is going at a nice smooth pace.
Little scene I made after the Michael native pic got so much attention. Wanted to make one more with the dry wild grass vibe of my area.

What’s your dream profession?
Is there any dead famous person you’d love to meet?
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten?
Fe, these questions are SO good, I had to think them over for a hot second.
I think I'm already in my dream profession (nursing), but my dream specialty would have to be labor & delivery! Or anything to do with women's health/reproductive healthy/fertility etc. I've always been really interested in birth & stuff, but didn't become truly passionate about it until I had my first job as an LVN in an ob/gyn clinic. It's also something I feel pretty knowledgeable on despite only knowing a small corner of it all. it's a job that I can learn and teach at the same time which is so cool because I love doing both!!
hmmm the first person I thought of was Freddie Mercury, but despite him being such a sweetheart, I would be WAY too intimidated to talk to him. I think if I were to get over that initial intimidation, I think it would be fun just to chat with him.
I unfortunately cannot remember any advice that I've been given, because I usually forget it after a while 🫣 and I'm also someone who struggles with believing what someone tells me especially if it's nice (idk how to explain it). but something I've learned in therapy and something that my therapist reminds me of a lot, is "it's scary, but I'm doing it anyways". basically, being able to power through a lot of the anticipatory anxiety I get and then not being so hard on myself when I tell myself that I didn't need to get that worked up about it & making myself feel bad about it.
ask me (3) things you want to know about me (anonymously or not!)

Man I miss the rain, it's been years of drought in Northern California. Had to move a bit east and it's nothing but snow, I love the sound of raindrops against my window. It's probably one of the few things that truly make me feel at ease. Snow, a newer experience to me in my 31 years of life, is the most miserable thing on this planet outside of Chrismas movies and postcards. Anyways here's a little chop I did, not the first or the last, and certainly not the best because this was just a quick cookup. Still, the sample speaks for itself it is just a few bars of melancholy and soul.

The California chill: State recorded fifth-coldest March in 129 years amid storms, snow
Apr. 11, 2023 - LA Times
Californians who feel like March was one of the coldest and wettest they've endured have the data on their side.
Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration show that last month was the fifth-coldest March in California since 1895, the first year in the agency's database. The average temperature across the state was 44.2 degrees, nearly 9 degrees lower than the average of 53.1 degrees from March 2022...
Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at UCLA, posted Monday on Twitter that "a few regions of Northern California just experienced their coldest March on record.”...
With the cold weather came substantial precipitation across the state. The wet season was the "wettest on record in some parts of interior" California, Swain tweeted, referring to the Central Valley and central and southern Sierra.
With more than 27 inches of precipitation on average, California's recent wet season ranked as the eighth wettest. Eight counties — El Dorado, Amador, San Joaquin, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Alpine, Mono and Fresno — saw their most precipitation on record from November through March...

Bye Bye Birdie
Nothing like this has ever crossed your palate from the Sierra Foothills. Austere and demure, the 14-8 on the label a moot point in both guesses and mouthfeel. Somewhat green and angsty, but still carrying on that hi-western Cowboys & Indians stuff dreams are made of. Get it. Get ALL their wines. El Dorado makes it all coalesce in grand…

California Braces for Historic Blizzard: Sierra Nevada Under Threat
Tumblr media
A powerful winter storm is set to unleash its fury on the Sierra Nevada from Thursday to Sunday, bringing record-breaking snowfall and blizzard conditions. ️
Here's what you need to know:
Up to 13 feet of snow is expected at the highest peaks.
Mountain travel will be impossible due to blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility.
This storm is different from previous ones:
Colder and originating from Alaska, not Hawaii.
Stronger jet stream will push the storm system inland.
Potential for record-breaking snowfall at UC Berkeley's Central Sierra Snow Lab.
Impacts:
Heavy snow expected at lower elevations, including foothills and parts of the Bay Area. ❄️
Strong winds exceeding 110 mph on the Sierra crest.
Possible power outages and disruptions. ⚡
Stay safe! ⚠️
Avoid travel to the Sierra Nevada unless absolutely necessary.
Prepare for potential power outages.
Stay informed of the latest weather updates.

okay so I don't think this one-shot will get finished tonight, but I'm hoping maybe tomorrow? if not some point this week. here's a little sneak peak just for funsies 😌 it's a bob x reader dealio. not beta-read at the moment so excuse any errors or if anything doesn't read right. have fun!
For someone who flew under the radar, both intentionally and not, he never expected to be the object of someone's desire the way he was one of yours. It was overwhelming at first, the amount of love you showered him with. But the truth is, they were the little moments, the little things, that opened his eyes to how much you truly cared for him.
“Drive safe sweetie!”
“Your mom called and asked about the holidays, I told her we’d host this year! I even already started getting activities ready for your nieces and nephew”
“I saw this at the store and thought of you!”
Those were the moments that made him realize that he never wanted to let you go and that he knew deep within his soul, that he would spend every waking hour, hoping that he could show you, whether it was with poetic words (which surprised him the first time he wrote you a love letter) or simple actions, that he loved you so much more than you could ever imagine.
