Do you #prepare your #children for #changes? Prepare children for changes - the 4th #skill we learned from the #ParentsEmpoweringChildren program of #StrongestFamiliesInstitute (I share one skill every #Wednesday!) Children of all ages can have #trouble #changingactivities, specially when they have to stop a #funactivity and move on to a less fun #chore. Preparing children for change will help them #learnwhattoexpect. When #warnings are used #often, children #listen and #learnroutines. Use #changewarnings and #whenthenstatements to prepare children for changes. Change warnings lets your child know #aheadoftime that a change is about to happen. We find that this works extremely well for our kids, especially when it comes time to stop playing and move on to cleaning up all the toys. When-Then statements #encouragesyourchild to #listenandfollowthrough with the change. This also works well with our kids - "When you finish your bedtime routine, then we can have a @moonlite.world #storytime". Don't forget to #noticethegood when your kids heed the change warnings and follow through with the when-then statements.
