today is hubby’s bday! few people know this but he was my first supporter when I created this blog - in fact, the whole thing was his idea! at the time I had a starker/MCU blog and did a couple reclists. when I fell back into the drarry pit he was like “what if you did the same thing for drarry but with single recs like those book review YT channels” I was very reluctant because big fandoms can be overwhelming and I didn’t feel creative or qualified to rec HP. not only I wasn’t up to date in terms of reading, I’d always been a lurker and didn’t know anyone around here; starker was a smaller, safe community without an insane to-read list or any other type of pressure. when covid hit I decided to take his advice and created the blog to distract myself at lockdown, that’s how the sit-pee brand kick off 😂 the rest is history. ~Eurovision in Mirror~

Because I want to make this about my babies (Sekros)

TK doesn't celebrate Eurovision (Sazvision?) even if that's been proposed a few times because that's a thing humans do

For starters they don't even have flags for the different territories lol

But still esc has some level of popularity in Mirror

Sekros, for example, is a huge fan. He absolutely adores it and has adored it since Denmark won in 2013

Anyways, he follows Eurovision closely and watches every semifinal, analyses the polls, watches the selection process of every country... You name it

Eurovision's like a fandom for him. He has two (2) Twitter accounts, one in German and another one in French he metaphorically dusts off (?) every time Eurovision time gets closer

His obsession would probably be an issue if he didn't have school (or it had just started and had no exams) lol

Anyways, Sekros has created the tradition to meet up with his European classmates (Charlie, Atalanta, Dario and --as honorary Europeans-- Fumiko and, on occasion, Hunter) to watch the grand final

This meetings usually end up pretty badly because Charlie roots for the UK, which, with this year's exception, usually gets pretty bad scores (last year they got a total of 0 points). Charlie gets frustrated and starts cussing out Dario because he's making fun of her

Charlie kicked Dario's spleen. "Quit being stupid," she harrumphed.

"I'm not being stupid," Dario took her ankle and moved her foot to the screen "I'm being realistic, see?"

Her toes (clothed in what had become her comfort socks on Bad Days not, as she tried to reason, because it made her feel pleasantly masculine, but because she'd stolen them from Sohrab) were pointing straight to the little UK flag on the bottom left corner of Sekros's gigantic screen.

"You are the thirds," Dario said, pure, annoying smugness in his voice "Thirds to last."

"Asshole, this whole shit's for Brexit, it's all political, the song wasn't that bad," Charlie lied.

The song had been pretty mediocre and the performance lacking. Stupid humans never presented anything good.

But Dario had no right to comment on Aboveground UK's shittiness.

Charlie yanked her ankle out of his hand and kicked him again. Although, this time, Dario was prepared. He deflected her by jumping to his feet and then throwing Charlie off the sofa. Straight to Sekros's lap.

(I don't have energy to write this but Sekros definitely got very angry and Hunter positively had to restrain him from declaring war on Charlie and Dario)

Anyways, I'm pretty sure Hunter's going to gift Sekros tickets to esc 2021 as a bday present and sekros practically looks like the fifth member of måneskin

That night, we checked into the Farmhouse.

The lady boss enthusiastically gave us a tour of the entire house and told us that we were free to use anything in it.

Passing the kitchen cabinets, a bag of something light-brown caught my eye.

MC: Are these…

I looked at the freshness of that light-brown colour, a lightbulb flashing in my head.

The 2nd day, daybreak.

Accompanied by the misty light, I made my way into the kitchen and searched through the bag, picking up the long and thin stem— Mushrooms that sprung up after the rain. It was a local speciality here. Add oil and stir-fry it to make it taste mouthwatering! Especially suited for making noodle soup!

MC: I've decided! You're gonna be today's breakfast!

Not wasting time, I quickly started soaking them in saltwater, rubbing them thoroughly to remove any dirt and impurities. Then, I oiled the pan and stir-fried them while I tweaked the seasonings. The sesame oil was tinged with the delectable fragrance of mushrooms, the mushroom oil created from the mix wafting with a unique fragrance.

Holding onto a small bowl of said oil, I was just about to cook some thin noodles for myself as a treat when a soft rustle came from outside the door.

MC: Who's there!?

The door was suddenly pulled open with a clatter.

Charlie stepped into the light of the rising sun, his inherently ubiquitous presence spreading throughout the space of the kitchen.

He picked up an apron, the sunlight that filtered in illuminating his hair with a faintly golden hue.

Charlie: Sorry to keep you waiting, my fiancée.

His confident smile and the little chick emblazoned on his chest struck a wild contrast with each other. It was almost as if this apron was an haute couture especially tailored for him.

Charlie: You're just making me some longevity noodles, what's there to be so sneaky about?

Charlie took the ladle from my hand with a knowing smile.

Charlie: I'm touched by your affections, my fiancée. You can just leave the rest to me.

MC: Cook longevity noodles for you? What? I was just…

Wait a second- I suddenly froze in place, realizing that something was a little off here…

MC: Longevity noodles? Is it your… birthday today?

Charlie: You can drop the act, my dear fiancée.

Charlie: You've already known that it was my birthday a long time ago, no? Actions speak louder than words.

Charlie: You've been in the kitchen ever since daybreak, bustling like a busy bee. I can't think why you'd do so, other than preparing for my birthday.

Charlie reached out to smoothen out the thinly-pressed corners of my mouth.

Charlie: Jackpot? I knew it. That surprised look on your face won’t fool anyone.

Seeing him brim with such enthusiasm, I suddenly couldn't find it in me to interrupt him… I didn't know about his birthday in the first place, so maybe I'll just admit my mistake, suck it up, and make it up to him.

I snatched the ladle back from his hand and came before the pot, blocking his access.

MC: Let me do it! The well-wishes wouldn’t be complete if you chip in to help!

Charlie’s eyes gleamed, almost as if he’d just received clarification.

Charlie: It’s just as I thought.

Charlie: My dear fiancée, it seems like you’re finally starting to care about me.

I could feel eyes burning into my back as I cooked the noodles.

MC: Charlie, I’m getting really nervous from your constant staring.

Charlie: I’m only admiring you.

MC: W-What’s there about me to admire!?

My face flushed red, and I hurriedly turned away to conceal my embarrassment. However, my reaction was too big, for I had accidentally knocked over the tray on the table and sent the condiment bottles tumbling over the edge.

MC: Crap!

Charlie rushed over, bending over to catch the two condiment bottles before they hit the ground. The crisis was averted by a mere hair's breadth.

Charlie: Focus.

Lowering my head, I saw two shadows reflected on the metal tray. They were huddled together, as if embracing each other. It felt very unreal.

Charlie: This is my first time.

MC: HUH??

Charlie: ...Having someone make longevity noodles for me.

MC: ...Can you finish your sentences next time?

MC: Have you never eaten them before?

Charlie: I’ve tried all the top-tier longevity noodles that this country has to offer.

Charlie: But, all of them ask for a fee in exchange.

Charlie: You are the first to make me noodles out of love.

MC: Can’t live up to that record, no.

The noodles are done. I took the most luxurious looking porcelain bowl in the kitchen with golden inlays of lotuses and leaves around the edges.

The oil in the noodle soup gleamed delectably. A mouthwatering fragrance wafted from the noodles; one as ambrosial as meat, yet also as refreshingly fragrant as fresh vegetables.

MC: Here, try it while it’s hot.

Charlie: Thank you, my dear fiancée.

He followed through with the act, elegantly picking up as many noodles as he could grasp with his chopsticks and hurriedly putting them into his mouth.

MC: How does it taste?

Charlie: Your noodles are really… sweet.

MC: Huh? But why…

MC: Yikes! I must have mistaken sugar for salt after knocking them both over!

Charlie: It’s so sweet that my throat’s sore now.

MC: Sorry…

MC: But, didn’t you love sweet things best? How can it make you have a sore throat if that’s the case?

Charlie: I don’t care. It’s just too sweet.

He placed his hands on the table and leaned down, whispering a soft threat.

Charlie: What are you going to do? This is but my first time. How will you reimburse me?

MC: I… I can wish you a happy birthday if you like?

Charlie: No can’t do. The reimbursement also includes the fee for the shock you’ve dealt to my spirit, the cost of my time that’s been wasted and-

MC: Then, how about I make you another bowl?

Charlie: I don’t need another this year. Let’s see… How many bowls of noodles would you owe me if we were to add the costs of the damage you’ve inflicted upon my spirit and multiply it with the time...

I lifted the lid of the pot to try the soup to see how sweet it really was while he was doing his mental calculations.

Charlie: Adding interest to the formula, you’ll have to make me a total of… Hey! Wait a minute!

I shoved the noodles into my mouth and chewed on them. It wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet at all; rather, it was perfectly salty and savoury as it should be.

MC: It doesn’t taste like I mistook sugar for salt…? Did Charlie…

MC: Hey, Charlie! Why did you lie to me!?

However, the perpetrator had long since disappeared. And along with him, gone was the bowl of “longevity noodles” I’d made.

MC: Wait a minute—

Looks like I still owe him a "Happy Birthday"...

The only ST actors who’ve had a crazy amount of success have been Millie and Finn, with David and Sadie close behind. ST has both helped and hurt the casts’ ability to get roles. ST increases everyone’s fame which lets them get good roles, but they also take up a lot of time to film + promote, so it limits when they’re available for other roles. So yes, ST has negatively affected Charlie in that he doesn’t have a wide open schedule, but it allows him roles he wouldn’t have gotten otherwise since he’s a name now. And yeah Cokegate wasn’t great publicity, but I don’t think it actually had an impact on him getting jobs since he’s booked plenty of new roles since then. Both Charlie and Natalia have stated it’s still difficult to find good roles, and they don’t get every role they audition for. Unless you’re an A-list actor, you aren’t exactly getting steady work. It goes up and down, and sometimes it’s bc of things completely out of your control. Like TTTF said, he filmed three projects in 2019, two of them main roles. He filmed nothing in 2020 and most of 2021 bc of COVID, and he’s since took a break to visit his fam and go on vacation with Natalia. We don’t know what’s going on with Charlie now. Maybe he’s done with acting forever, maybe he’s taking a well deserved break, maybe he’s having trouble finding work right now, or maybe he’s secretly filming something now. We don’t know, and it’s hard not knowing bc we love him and miss seeing him act. And I get sometimes you can’t help but imagine the worse- I get that. But I honestly don’t think there’s any real cause for concern yet. He’s an actor, even if he’s in a slump now, it’ll end. Worst case scenario he has to wait until ST4 comes out to get a boost so he can book something. But it’s not like he absolutely needs the fame to work anyway. I mean this is a man who landed two starring film roles before ST (even if neither of those films did particularly well [AYA deserved so much more than what it got imo]). Even if after ST ends his spotlight fades, he’ll still work.

Charlie def doesn’t have the squeakiest clean reputation, but I don’t think it’s fair or accurate to say no one likes him. He has tons of fan accounts still, he’s in a relationship highly shipped by the vast majority of ST fans, he’s loved by the cast which means most of their fan accs love him too. Take a look thru his tags today and you’ll see how many people like him enough to wish him a happy birthday, some even going thru the trouble of making edits and collages for him. Sure, there are some assholes who openly dislike him, whether bc they mistakenly believe he’s addicted to coke, or they don’t like how he looks, or they ship Natalia with someone else (ew) or whatever. But I assure you, those people make up a very very very small percentile.

Anyway, not trying to start a debate or anything, I just think on his bday of all days we should be lifting him up instead of dragging him down. Much love!

That ask was not on his bday if it was p harsh (if partly realistic too), but I’m going to just go with the thing you say there “that we don’t know what’s going on with Charlie now” with acting. All we can do is hope he gets some new projects! Tbh it’s that I really just don’t get some of what’s going on (like I still think the agent thing is weird, skipping the tsp2 premiere and all the uk press for it now which Harris etc is doing is also a choice). But again, hopefully there will be some signs of acting life soon. I obvs only raise my confusion sometimes bc I think he’s an excellent actor and it would be great to see him in things!

last day of 2021

when I look back at this year, here’s what i’ll remember:

We moved 4 times (berkeley, portland, parents’ house, philly-ish). I realized my goal of living closer to family thanks to patience, determination, and sacrifice by my partner. We celebrated Sean’s bday in Berkeley and had a nice strawberry mouse cake then had a getaway in the mountains near tahoe. We touched snow and I did a naked catwalk runway in the cabin haha... We celebrated Valentine’s day too and Sean spoiled me so much with a cute book about 50 things he loves about me, roses, chocolates, a nice puzzle of hands and flowers. We got vaxxed! And I got bangs! Why did I get bangs? I don’t remember, but it was completely necessary to reinvent myself at the “end” of the pandemic. My mom came to California to visit my sister and I. We went to Santa Cruz and I made them ceviche and we watched Sleeping with the Enemy and giggled a lot. We also went to the freezing cold March northern CA beach which makes me smile and laugh when I remember it. We felt like we were in an alternate reality. I got a tattoo from Sai in SF. We packed up the uhaul, cats, and car and drove to Portland and got scammed hard, contemplated all of life’s decisions and ultimately survived one of the most emotionally and physically challenging summers ever. But we did drink delicious iced matcha lattes with almond milk from the Flying Cat Cafe next door and did a good bit of window shopping. I had the best birthday ever at Oma’s in pdx followed by great gifts, cake, and playing basketball at the park (lol). I got another promotion at work to secure the bag !! And finally in a healthier position in terms of stress and alignment with my creative skills. We swam in a hotel pool in Seattle which was very reminiscent of childhood and I met Sean’s sister. I flew back to PA for the family picnic and cousincation 2021! Our hotel had a lovely view of the bay and we danced and drank and ate soft pretzels at Seacrets all night long. I’m pretty sure I did the “Lovesick Girls” dance barefoot in the sand that night too. After arriving back in Portland, we slipped the kitties a few relaxation pills and hopped on the plane back to PA where my parents welcomed us with open arms, a whole lot of patience and support, and a cozy home to stay in while we searched and searched for a home of our own. We went kayaking, hiking, drove to Raleigh, went to NYC and dined at many amazing restaurants. Things were starting to feel normal again. Except for cats living in the basement! I got to meet Charlie and we discovered the Folklore Cafe together, talked all day, and got a tour of the van. We went to many arcades and Sean won me stuffies over and over. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my family after 2 long years of not seeing them. I hugged my nana so tight. Finally we signed a lease, the same day we went to see Murder by Death, ran into old friends, and found the parking spot of a lifetime. We moved in the day after thanksgiving and have been nesting ever since. We went to a party! I haven’t been able to socialize like that in years and it was such a gift. We built a cat door, and rebuilt our home and lives from the ground up. I’m seeing a doctor I like, I got off my medicine, I go to pilates 2x a week and I’m really taking care of myself. We celebrated christmas in our new place with a beautiful tree, hot chocolate, a strawberry shortcake, and cajun chicken alfredo. My parents had us over yesterday for more gifts, scrabble, giggles, and cookies and mom sent us home with leftover food, as always. The only thing missing was my sister. I feel a deep sense of peace and love as the long year comes to a close. xx

They both would have been in my year at school and I always like to think which hockey players who would have been in my year I’d get on with. Trent Frederic absolutely I think we would have gotten kicked out of English lessons together but I think Charlie would have found me incredibly annoying. I didn’t really get on with any of the sport boys at my school tho because I will not suffer an arrogant man, they were all football boys tho (soccer? In American I think) and they’re just a different bread of awful

I think Charlie is the year ahead of Trent so I believe you would have been the year ahead of me ? Maybe ? Like I said, Charlie was 2019 at BU, so 2015 in high school and Trent was 2020 at Wisco, so 2016 for high school. I’m that person that gets along with everyone because I’m annoying like that, but I was friends with most of the men’s crew team in undergrad and they certainly are a different breed 

and nah it’s fine lmao. My bday is mid September and in most states in the country, I was born late enough that I shouldn’t have started school when I did and I technically should be a senior in college right now (I know a decent number of seniors who are older than me) but I got my Bachelor’s in May 2020, I’ll have my Master’s in August 2021 and I may or may not eventually get another Master’s/law degree but I’m not sure

Following the recommended route as written in the leaflet, we walked out of the market and could already see the faint silhouette of the village in the distance.

Walking closer, we could now see it. There were a pair of small swings hanging side-by-side on the branches of the old tree, swaying gently in the wind amidst the clearing.

MC: So this is the “Century-Old Tree”!

MC: We’ve been walking around for so long. Now, we’ve finally found a great spot to take a little afternoon break!

I happily pointed to the swing, running up in front of Charlie.

MC: Want to go for a round on the swing, Charlie?

Charlie gave an enthusiastic nod. However, the corner of his mouth suddenly twitched downwards in disappointment.

Following his line of sight, I saw two young boys, about the age of three or four, who’d gone right up, hopping onto the swings before us.

Charlie: ……

MC: How about we wait for them? They shouldn’t take too long…

The words had only just left my mouth when the kids from the Farmhouse Tour Group all rushed over.

The small heads swarmed before the swings, fighting over who gets to go on it first and comparing with each other on who could swing the highest. Our turn at the swings suddenly seems much further away than we’d thought…

MC: Wanna play? We have plenty of time to spare!

Charlie: I…

???: What do you mean you want to play on the swing? You're already so old!

I froze in embarrassment, only to realize that it was just a mother speaking to her daughter as they passed by.

A Mother: Look, only three-year-olds play on the swing. Don't you feel embarrassed fighting over the swing with them?

A Mother: Be good. Hurry and go to the tearoom with mommy.

The expression on Charlie's face soured at the mother's words.

By the time the mother pulled her daughter away, Charlie had already been rooted to his spot, seemingly stunned beyond measure. It was almost as if he'd been dealt a big blow to his ego that he'd never experienced before in his entire life.

Charlie: Let's go. It's a kiddie thing. I'm not interested.

Charlie: I’m such a perfect and strong adult. Swings and I don’t gel.

MC: No can’t do!

I crossed my arms together in front of my chest in an “X-Formation”, expressing my express refusal to let things stand.

MC: Don’t let age get the better of you!

MC: You’ll only know the fun of a swing, or the lack of, when you go up and give it a try! It has nothing to do with your age!

He helplessly shook his head again, as if on instinct.

Charlie: I'm not letting age get the better of me. It's the opposite, actually. This is the conclusion I came to after looking at it from a scientific point of view.

Charlie: Swings were made to make up for the shortcomings of people’s lack of power and speed, and also to satisfy the dreams that people have about reaching the skies.

Charlie: Alas, I am not lacking in anything. Hence, there is no need to make up for anything. Therefore, swings are truly something unsuited for one such as I…

MC: Never thought that you'd manage to answer that smoothly.

Charlie: Because perfection is a trait of mine.

Charlie remained bored for a good long time after that as I accompanied him, squatting beneath a tree, until the sound of frolicking children gradually faded away into nothingness.

MC: Do you want to have a go at it now?

Charlie: No.

MC: The kids down there have all left!

MC: Don't worry, I'm going to be there so there's nothing for you to be ashamed about.

Charlie: Really?

He turned back, curiously shooting a glance in the direction of the swings.

The two empty swings swung gently in the wind as if the exuberant laughter from before still hung in the air.

Charlie: If you insist.

Charlie sat down next to me on the swing beside me. I didn't wait for him, immediately kicking off from the ground and propelling myself up high in the air.

Without the ground to ground me, I felt like I was a free bird. The gentle freeze whistled past my ears, making me feel exceptionally good.

I looked down to the other swing at the side when I reached the peak height… only to see an aggrieved figure scuffing at the ground in utter boredom.

MC: Why aren't you swinging?

He craned his neck up to look at me, his eyes, hidden under the shadows of the overhanging tree, filled with dejection.

Charlie: My limbs are too long, it's impossible to lift myself off the ground.

I lowered my head to get a closer look, only to find that with no other place to put them, his legs were awkwardly folded beneath the swing.

An idea popped into my head. I secretly crept up behind him… Without any warning, I hurriedly grabbed onto the ropes of the swing and dragged him, swing and all, backwards.

Charlie: Ahh— What are you doing!?

MC: Careful. Hold on tight!

Once the swing reached a certain height, I vehemently pushed forwards, sending him swinging up into the sky.

A low grunt of surprise followed him as he flew up into the air.

Charlie: *sharp inhale*...

The swing swung by me once more, and I could hear a sharp intake of breath.

MC: Man, don't tell me he hasn't even played on a swing before…

Looking at the figure currently suspended in the air, I couldn't help but start wondering just what sort of childhood this oddly mysterious man had.

I came before him as the swing gradually came to a stop.

MC: Did that give you a scare?

I thought that I'd see him in utter disarray, but he was all smiles, his brows raised in sheer delight. He even raided a hand to comb back his windswept hair.

Charlie: Again.

Unfazed, he calmly adjusted his position on the swing, giving me a look that told me to get behind him.

Charlie: If you could use more force this time, dear fiancée.

MC: Did he suddenly find the joy of swinging on a swing?

Partially fuelled with curiosity, I pulled the swing back once more before launching him into the air with a much harder push.

This time, a fairly cheery voice sounded from above.

Just as the swing was approaching its peak height, Charlie suddenly extended his arms out towards the sky, almost as if he wanted to embrace it as he relished in the moment.

Charlie: Ahh… Now, this is what true rural life is like!

MC: ……

It was a long while before the swing came to a standstill once more. Charlie turned towards me, an expectant look written all over his face.

MC: Okay, one more.

Charlie: My dear fiancée, there's no one else in this world who knows me this well, but you.

MC: I don't think anyone will mistake such a straightforward "hint", though…

As his silhouette was highlighted against the bright and clear skies, I couldn’t help but picture a couple of wondrous, yet seemingly unrelated sights...

Like a cub, showing its belly to a stranger, a Rosella fruit being mistaken for a flower bud, and the moist, misty, eyes of Sea Turtles as they come ashore on a moonlit night…

MC: I don't think he's that hard to understand…

Granted, only if he was willing to be understood.

Morning, 6 AM.

The group of people who were participating in the Suburban Farmhouse Tour had already gathered, lining up in the narrow bus stop for the Urban-Rural Bus.

I manoeuvred around the crowd, standing at the very back as I surveyed the area in search of Charlie.

MC: Strange. What’s up with him today? He’s never been late…

There's only one minute left before we're setting out…

MC: Don't tell me he's standing me up because he got cold feet from hearing, "A joyous Rural Tour of Spiritual Healing", the name of this event?

Just as I took out my phone to contact him, the bright and cheery voice of a kid from the group before me suddenly cuts through the air.

Passerby: Look, look! The bus is here!

MC: That quickly!?

I anxiously make my way out of the crowd, intending to go up to the guide on the bus and explain the situation to them.

However, the sight that greeted me made me falter…

Charlie: Dear participants of Quangqi City's Suburban Rural Tour;

Charlie: Please line up and board the bus in an orderly manner.

Charlie: I repeat, dear participants of Quangqi City's Suburban Rural Tour; please line up and board the bus in an orderly manner.

The bus comes to a stop in front of the bus stop. And sitting in the driver's seat was the one man I'd been trying so desperately to find; Charlie.

He rested a hand against the window, leaning a little lazily into his chair. He looked as perfect as naturally formed, primary-coloured, gemstones born from never-ending metamorphism… Other than that band-aid of little yellow ducks on his left finger that stuck out like a sore thumb, of course.

MC: What a way to make a grand entry; it’s beyond my wildest imagination…

The driver’s side window gradually lowered, and soon, I was faced with Charlie’s gleeful face.

Charlie: Sorry to have kept you waiting, my dear fiancée.

Charlie: Come, get on.

Charlie: I’ve saved the passenger seat especially for you.

Auntie: You have a fiancée, boy!?

One of the older women with the group let out a shocked cry of exclamation, catching the attention of all the people in their sixties who were within the tour group.

MC: I, er… I'm not…

Before I could formulate a reply, a couple of enthusiastic and kindly older folk started gathering before the doors of the bus, tripping over each other to get a word in with me.

Uncle: Young lass, you don’t see youngsters as ardent as that man of yours nowadays!

Auntie: The driver called earlier, saying that he’d gotten an upset stomach, and was unable to drive over. He also said that the bus was parked about 2km away.

Auntie: We were all panicking since we didn’t know what to do, but your man stepped in to help immediately without a word.

Following that, murmurs of approval sounded one after another. Namely, “Yeah!” and “That man’s a keeper!”.

MC: Uncle, auntie, you have the wrong idea. We aren’t in that sort of relationship.

Hearing that, she only became more earnest.

Auntie: You youngsters always think that you’re still young, so you keep delaying things as big as marriage to no end.

Auntie: He’s such a talented and reliable young man. You’ll never be able to find someone else like him in the future, no matter how hard you try.

Charlie: Yes, Auntie. What you say is indeed true.

Charlie’s voice suddenly cut through the whispers of the crowd.

The crowd willingly gave way to his advancements, moving to form a path before him. His tall figure stood at the other end of the dimly lit bus, making him look especially conspicuous.

He walked up to all of the older folk, leisurely and unhurried, a picture-perfect smile on his face.

Charlie: Auntie, in all honesty, even I am unable to wrap my head around it.

Charlie: Why is someone as brilliant as me getting rejected by her again and again to no end?

Charlie: That being said, however, marriage is something that can only be achieved by two. I am only showing her my one-sided affections right now. Hence, she still retains the right to choose whether or not to proceed with it.

Charlie casually glances over to me, secretly shooting me a sly look over the crowd.

Charlie: This is something that we’ve both reached a mutual consensus on, at least.

MC: Actually...

Charlie: Therefore, neither a title nor an official declaration of our relationship will be able to affect our mutual feelings.

Charlie: I am very confident that it won’t.

They all took to his remarks like fish in water, continuously showering him in praises.

Uncle: You are really different from others through and through; you do think of everything and anything.

Saying so, all the older folks broke out into more murmurings of “yeah!” and “he’s so excellent and confident!” as they dispersed.

Charlie and I were the only ones left near the door.

The smile on his face faded as the crowd dispersed.

Charlie: Okay, let’s go.

Having regained my bearings, I was just about to step up into the bus… when something undeniably important flashed through my mind.

MC: WAIT!

His silhouette, in all its showy glory, jolted at my sudden exclamation.

Charlie: What!?

MC: Charlie, this is a bus!

Charlie: So?

MC: Do you even have an A1 driver’s license!?

He shook his head with a faint smile. I could almost hear his inaudible sigh of exasperation.

Charlie: And here I thought that something big happened. So, it was just about a driver’s license?

Charlie: Driving licence ABCDEF. I have them all; the complete set. I’m only missing the las—

Sensing that he was about to go off on another one of his tirades, I quickly cut him off.

MC: Stop. Okay, I get it. But, why sit for so many licenses?

MC: Why in the world did you sit for that many licenses?

Charlie: I’ve told you a long time ago. I dabble here and there when it comes to things that are generally interesting but useless.

Charlie: Come on. Hurry and get on board.

Charlie stood on the steps leading up to the bus. He leaned forward and extended a hand out towards me.

MC: I’ve only ever heard of Prince Charming; never have I heard of a Bus Prince.

I placed my hand into his, his long fingers gently wrapping around my wrist.

Charlie: No matter. You’re seeing him now anyway.

Charlie: Come on then, Bus Princesse mine.

As I stepped onto the steps leading up to the bus, I told myself deep down in my heart: Summer was finally beginning.
