“SIX YEARS, 12 STRAPS FOR EVANGELIST'S SON,” Toronto Star. March 11, 1933. Page 25. ---- Rugby Player Gets Five Years and Ten Strokes for Armed Robbery --- Special to The Star Hamilton, March 11.-"This sort of thing frequently ends in murder; you might be facing a charge on which you would finish with a rope around your neck," Magistrate Burbidge said to-day as he sentenced Frank Bradley, 21, son of an evangelist, to six years in the penitentiary and twelve strokes of the cat-o'-nine-tails, and Wilbur Schultz, 19. rugby player and son of a manufacturer, to five years and ten strokes of the cat-o'-nine-tails, on two charges of armed robbery.
On three charges of car theft the youths were sentenced to one year definite concurrently with the other sentences.
"They were out of work and figured they could get some easy money to carry on until spring." stated Detective Barrett. "The car they stole yesterday was to be put in a garage while they looked over the situation to pick out something big. These other jobs were just piker stuff. They obtained a shot-gun from a man named Dutch who was just out of prison."
Crown Attorney Ballard moved for immediate sentence referring to the accused as potential murderers. "This type of crime is very prevalent in the republic to the south of us, and has to be stamped out," he stated.
Schultz and Bradley admitted holding up and robbing Robert Megaughan, manager of Jackson's Bread Co., February 28. Megaughan was walking to a bank near his office with $1,900 in cash in his pocket and $58 in silver in a satchel. The robbers demanded the satchel, thinking they had the company's receipts, but all they got was the paltry sum in silver.
Their admissions also included the daring hold-up of Powell's branch grocery store, March 6.
Confident a break was impending, police withheld news of the theft between 8.30 and 9.30 yesterday of a large sedan owned by Vernon A. Smith, salesman of Rockwood. He was eating in a King St. E. restaurant and had left almost $600 in merchandise in his car.
Headquarters officials ordered every available man to take up the chase. An hour later. Detectives Sharpe and Barrett found the car parked on Blake St. They waited. Schultz and another man approached the car and were captured. Later, the detectives learned the second man was innocent and was merely acting as an agent to aid Schultz find a garage where the sedan could be parked a few hours.
Bradley was later arrested as Schultz’s alleged accomplice in theft of Smith's car. Both denied knowledge of the hold-ups until late. last night when an identification line-up was arranged at headquarters and seven persons positively identified them as the participants in the Megaughan and Powell robberies, police stated.
Detectives Barrett and Sharpe led a search which unearthed the shotgun and revolver in a rooming house. Not until then did Schultz and Bradley admit any knowledge of the crimes, The Star was told.
[AL: Bradley was also known as Frank Dadgley and Ted Lewis, and had been in Burwash and the Montreal jail before - he was 21, from Brantford, and had a tattoo of a Heart and Anchor tattoo and the word ‘Lovey’ on his arm. He was a cook’s helper. he was convict #2980 at Kingston Penitentiary but was transferred to Collin’s Bay January 1935. He was convict #822 and was released March 1937.
Schultz alias Wilbur was 19, and was from Hamilton - having spent some time in the Barton jail there. He was a machinist helper. At Kingston Penitentiary he was #2979 and unlike Bradley was a difficult and disobedient prisoner, reported 15 times between 1933 and 1935 for speaking out of term, theft of supplies, resistance to guards, foul language, and taking part in a prison strike. He mostly worked in the tailor shop Schultz was also involved in a riot and hostage taking in March 1935, when a group of twenty-five inmates, wearing improvised masks and with their inmate numbers ripped from their uniforms, occupied several workshops, barricaded the doors, and took three officers hostage; Schultz worked in the tailor shop in that building. Unlike the 1932 strike, the guards taken captive were gagged, tied, and beaten by the leaders of the uprising. Several of the inmates set fire to the mail bags manufactured inside, destroying most of the machinery and nearly killing several men. The prison officers who stormed the building were also exceptionally brutal, beating surrendered inmates with batons. During the investigation afterwards, few of the participants would explain exactly what they had hoped to gain, except, as one individual guessed: “They don’t want exercises. They want base balls. They want human treatment instead of persecution, and everything like that.” Schultz himself was implicated in the riot, considered an “agitator” by several other prisoners, but his testimony was rather limited in this regard:
Q (from Warden): “What I am getting at is that your answers are useless. The Shoe was set on fire, machines broke, windows broken, and, according to you, you didn’t see a thing. Are you sure you were there?” A: I don’t know what to tell you, boss.
Several weeks later he was overheard taking responsibility for “trying to beat you guys (ie the guards) but not knowing you can’t beat the boys in blue.” Schultz was given ten strokes of the strap for his role in this riot, and sent to segregation for a year.  He was pardoned December 1936.]

Konstantin Tserazov: “Armenia: FinTech Can Unlock the Truly Potential of Economy and Finance”
The key issue for foreign investors is the opportunity to invest capital and repatriate profits. The free flow of capital is equally important when individuals from various countries come to reside or work.
Tumblr media
Armenia has proven itself to be a financially convenient country in which businesses and individuals can easily send and receive money. The development of FinTech in Armenia has made a significant impact, propelling the country to an international level as an attractive destination for tourists, migrants, and investors.
Deeper Integration with the West
The Armenian financial system's flexibility is clearly evident on its path towards deeper integration with the West. Remarkable news in this regard came on April 3, 2024: Ameriabank was sold to the Bank of Georgia Group PLC, a UK-based entity. The new key shareholder has investors such as BlackRock, the world's largest investment fund, and JPMorgan Chase, the number one U.S. bank in terms of asset valuation, backing it. Thus, Ameriabank gains access to the world of global finance via its investors. However, it's not just about attracting global investors; it's also about developing the local economy.
In May, this financial institution began offering online home loans aimed at the Armenian Diaspora abroad. Loans are available for local property purchases, renovations, or construction, regardless of the applicant's origin or location. Income from abroad is considered for loan applications, and permanent residency or registered income in Armenia is not required. Loans are available in local currency (Armenian Drams, AMD), U.S. dollars, or euros for terms of 5 to 30 years.
Digitalization and the application of FinTech have led to 98% of the bank's transactions being conducted online. FinTech ensures that all key aspects of loan operations are performed digitally.
Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are on the rise in Armenia's banking sector. For instance, Ardshinbank recently struck a deal to take control over HSBC's Armenian branch.
..Not Only Towards the West
Armenia's pivot is not solely toward the West. The country maintains strong economic ties with other members of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as evidenced by the surge in money transfers within the EAEU during the first nine months of 2023, reaching $3.8 billion – a remarkable 31.3% annual growth. Notably, Russia fueled 71% of these transfers, demonstrating a significant 42% year-over-year increase.
In terms of diversification, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the top investor in Armenia's real sector in 2023, surpassing Russia for the first time, with a net investment of $250 million in foreign direct investment (FDI). However, the EAEU as a whole remains important, with total net FDI from EAEU countries reaching $305 million.
More Ways to Connect to Global Financial System
Armenian banks are considering linking their payment services to credit cards issued by foreign banks outside Armenia. Upon successful completion of a standard compliance procedure, clients can use their cards for these services.
Armenia’s banks use SWIFT for financial transactions. However, the country feels the enormous economic and financial potential of Asian countries and the Global South and reacts to it.
Currently, we see how Armenia deepens ties with India. The arrival of the Indian payments system, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), in Armenia is anticipated. UPI provides a simple, phone-based payment system that uses phone numbers for account identification and instant transfers through QR codes. By directly linking to bank accounts, it simplifies transactions for smaller merchants, removing the necessity for additional hardware such as card readers.
UPI facilitates direct money transfers between accounts and leverages Google Pay in India for added convenience. This integration could enable seamless cross-border payments between India and other countries. The FinTech sectors of India and Armenia stand to benefit significantly, enhancing cooperation between the peoples of both countries.
Yerevan is diversifying beyond reliance on Mastercard, Visa, Google Pay, and Apple Pay by exploring new logistical routes for goods, including plans for a high-speed transport corridor that would bring large volumes of Indian goods to the EU market through Armenia. Additionally, China UnionPay has established a presence in the country's financial landscape. Both Acba Bank and Converse Bank have begun issuing China UnionPay cards.
Digitalization and the development of new digital routes for money transfers are crucial in this direction. Neighboring countries are aware of this significant trend. For instance, during his official state visit to Armenia on April 15, 2024, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the president of Kazakhstan, emphasized, “Our cooperation in new fields, such as digitalization and finance, also has a great future.”
The Situation in the Economy
Armenia recorded a GDP growth of 12.6% in 2022, with a high of +8.7% in the previous year. The forecast for 2023 is +5.7%, and eyes are on the growth rate for 2025. If Armenia experiences a rising growth tempo in 2025, it will indicate that the economy has successfully harnessed the value of rapid digitalization.
The Central Bank of Armenia identifies accelerating domestic demand, reducing debt, and increasing credit potential as key challenges. These factors may exacerbate excessive demand, potentially hindering the correction of the base inflation rate and inflation expectations. This situation suggests that a portion of internal demand can be externalized, and the burgeoning sector of money transfers in the current economic circumstances creates additional value when viewed from a macroeconomic perspective.
FinTech Development and Money Transfers Market
FinTech is a real driver of the Armenian economy, demonstrating an annualized growth rate of 20%. The country has several innovative hubs, and FinTech contributes over $1 billion in annual value. This rise has also received support from prominent international structures.
For example, the EBRD extends its loan program aimed at supporting the development of small and medium enterprises, which are crucial for the Armenian economy. In June 2024, the EBRD backed a $15.7 million loan to one of the technology centers in Armenia, to help them open a new hub promoting innovation and economic growth.
The FinTech payments market in Armenia is represented by players such as Idram and Mobidram, which have significantly developed their online services. HayPost has its own e-wallet app called 'HayPost Pay.'
Crypto exchange services are also prevalent in Armenia, especially in the capital. There are a few physical Bitcoin stores in the center of Yerevan where one can buy or sell the oldest cryptocurrency in the world, with some offices having a fixed commission fee of just $10.
In Armenia, the educational background of people working in the IT and FinTech spheres is often highlighted. Local FinTech and IT professionals with deep technical knowledge and a good understanding of modern FinTech are in high demand in the local labor market. European and American companies frequently hire local specialists to work in their EU and US offices.
FinTech Can Potentially Boost the Local Stock Market
Currently, the Armenia Securities Exchange (AMX) is the primary venue for the local stock market. While the banking sector is well capitalized, with over $14.5 billion in total bank deposits, the stock market has a relatively low volume and influence. This underutilization of the stock market presents an opportunity for FinTech to energize its growth and, in turn, for the stock market to fuel local FinTech companies' expansion.
Currently, the local stock market has only about a dozen companies listed. This is a significant decrease from the mid-2010s when several hundred enterprises were listed on the AMX. Many businesses now seek financing through bank loans, private equity, or venture financing, leading to a smaller proportion of stocks in the securities market, which is primarily composed of debt-related securities.
The process for companies to go public (IPO) in Armenia is relatively straightforward. Several Armenian banks offer brokerage and underwriting services, and some of these banks allow users to buy or sell securities through their mobile banking apps. International brokers also provide access to the Armenian stock market.
Retail investors in Armenia have potential access to a diverse range of local companies, and if they choose to invest even a small portion of their bank holdings, the local stock market could experience a significant boost.
Armenia's top banks are increasing funding for local small and medium businesses (SMEs), which are crucial to the economy, employing 70 out of every 100 workers. Nevertheless, it is essential to develop SME financing through the issuance of shares and bonds on the local stock market.
The development of local currency (AMD) financing via the stock exchange will support the local currency and create a new equilibrium in the financial market. Currently, over half of corporate bank loans and one-eighth of retail loans are denominated in US dollars, contributing to a relatively high level of dollarization. If the development of financing via the local stock market creates additional demand and support for the AMD, it will positively impact the Armenian economy.

Navigating the World of Business Credit Cards as a Beginner
As a beginner entrepreneur, selecting the right business credit card can be a daunting task. There are several factors to consider, from the type of credit card to the credit score model used. In this post, we'll explore the key considerations and provide practical guidance to help you make an informed decision.
Choosing between EIN and SSN
EIN Credit Card: If you have a business with revenue, you may qualify for an EIN-based credit card, which uses your Employer Identification Number instead of your Social Security Number.
Personal Guarantee: If you don't have a business credit history, you may need to use your SSN and provide a personal guarantee for a business credit card.
Understanding Credit Scoring Models
FICO 8 vs. FICO 9: FICO 8 and FICO 9 are the most common credit score models used by major banks. Knowing which model a card uses can help you choose the right option for your credit profile.
Vantage 3 and 4: Some regional banks and credit unions may use the Vantage 3 or Vantage 4 credit scoring models, which have slightly different criteria.
Building Your Business Credit File
Reporting to Business Credit Bureaus: Choosing a major bank, such as Chase, Citi, or Capital One, can help ensure your business credit activity is reported to the major business credit bureaus.
Establishing a Banking Relationship: The strength of your banking relationship, including the length of time and the volume of deposits, can impact the credit limit you're offered.
Starter Business Credit Cards
EIN-Only Cards: If you're brand new to business credit, consider cards like Divvy, Capital On Tap, or Tago, which may allow you to use your EIN without a personal guarantee.
Secured and Charge Cards: Secured cards, such as those offered by First National Bank of Omaha, or charge cards like Divvy, can help you build business credit without a high revenue requirement.
FICO 9 and Vantage Cards: Look into cards from US Bank, Wells Fargo, and PNC Bank that use the FICO 9 or Vantage 3/4 credit scoring models, which may be more favorable for new businesses.
Remember, the key to building a strong business credit profile is to start small, establish a banking relationship, and gradually expand your credit card portfolio. By understanding the various options and factors involved, you can make the best choice for your business credit needs as a beginner.

How Can Small Businesses Avoid Check Fraud?
Check fraud is a big issue for small business owners. Check copy is the second most costly crime in the United States, after credit card fraud. In this blog post, we'll explore some common ways check fraud can occur and give tips on how to avoid it. Keep reading to learn more!
What Is Check Fraud?
Tumblr media
Check fraud occurs when someone writes a bad check or checks for more than the amount available on their account. Then, they pass the bad check or checks on to someone else. Avoid check fraud with MyRetailBuddy Software.
As a result, the check receiver ends up with the money, but the check writer ends up with the money that the check receiver has to spend.
There are three main types of check fraud:
1. Check Kiting
Check kiting occurs when a check is written for more money than is available on an account. The check is then deposited into the accounts of multiple banks. The recipient uses the deposited funds but spends the money on non-sufficient funds. The recipient then writes another check for the amount of the bad check and deposits it into another account. They do this several times until the original check bounces.
Check kiting benefits the individual who engages in check kiting because they can avoid getting arrested for writing bad checks. The check receiver also gets hit with a fee when the check bounces. The costs from the bounced checks are usually transferred to the account receiving the bill.
2. Forged Checks
Forged checks are made when a check is copied or altered so that the payee's name, account number, and amount does not match. The counterfeit check is then passed from one person to another. The check receiver ends up with the funds from the forged check. However, the check writer ends up with the money the receiver has to spend.
Forged checks benefit the person who writes the forged check because a statement can be written for more money than is available on an account. The check receiver ends up paying additional fees for bounced checks.
3. Altered Checks
Altered checks are similar to forged checks in that the name, account number, and amount does not match. However, altered checks are altered using electronic means. With altered checks, the check receiver ends up with the funds from the account. However, the person who changed the check ends up with the money the receiver has to spend.
How Small Businesses Can Avoid Check Fraud?
Check fraud is unfortunate, and small business owners must be vigilant to prevent losing money. Owners should take precautions, such as:
1. Requesting a voided check, Chase Card, or government-issued ID from customers.
2. Never accept cash, especially if only a tiny change is given.
3. Shredding checks that have cleared.
4. Depositing checks as soon as possible.
Owners should also be wary of "friendly" fraud, in which a customer asks for the check to be put through immediately.
Be suspicious if a customer refuses to provide identification or payment via another method.
How Small Businesses Can Protect Themselves Against Check Fraud?
Check fraud is a severe problem for small businesses, as it can lead to losses in revenue and customer trust. Here are some ways that small businesses can protect themselves from check fraud:
Ensure that your bank is part of the Check 21 program. This program helps banks detect and prevent fraudulent checks from being processed.
Ensure that your Internet banking is secure. Use a secure password for your online banking account, and keep your computer locked when not in use.
Keep track of your check numbers and dates. Please make a copy of your checks and keep them in a safe place, such as a fireproof safe.
Institute a policy requiring customer identification. This will help you identify and track down thieves who try to use your business's checks without permission.
Small businesses can protect themselves against check fraud by using several defensive measures, such as using a secure password for online banking, keeping track of check numbers and dates, and requiring customer identification. Doing these things reduces the chances that your business will experience financial losses due to check fraud.
How Small Businesses Can Report Check Fraud?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) suggests that businesses report checking fraud to law enforcement agencies in their city. Companies can also report crimes to the FTC.
The FTC encourages businesses to report check fraud to law enforcement as well. The FTC suggests reporting the crime to law enforcement first so that investigators can track down the fraudster. The FTC's website states that if a business says the crime "to law enforcement first, it may have more success collecting a fraud judgment against the wrongdoer."
The FTC's website also states that businesses "should not report check fraud to banks or credit unions, since banks or credit unions are in the best position to conduct a criminal investigation, and many opt not to do so unless they receive a subpoena."
How Check Fraud Affects Small Businesses
Check fraud costs small businesses a lot of money each year. While check fraud has been around as long as checks have been, it has recently exploded due to technological advancements. Small businesses, in particular, are at risk because many check fraud scams target them.
Check fraud scams cost small businesses as much as $5 billion a year, and $900 million of that loss comes from small businesses alone. The scams cover a wide range of methods, including:
Return/Refund Fraud
Checks are written and deposited, but either the check bounces or the bank is notified that the check was fraudulent.
Deposit Fraud
Checks are written, but the check taker is unaware that it was fraudulent.
Stop Payment
A check is returned to the victim by the payee.
Check Forgery
A check is written but does not match the payee's signature.
Check Kiting
Checks are written for an amount greater than the amount of the account, and then the money is taken out at multiple banks.
Business Check Fraud
This category includes checks written for non-existent businesses, personal checks written to a business account, and checks written for fictitious firms or people.

Biometric-as-a-Service Market Share, Growth Prospects and Key Opportunities by 2025
The report "Biometric-as-a-Service Market Growth by Offering, Solution (Fingerprint Recognition, Iris Recognition, Voice Recognition, Palm & Vein Recognition), Trait (Physiological, Behavioral), Modality, Organization Size, Vertical, Region-Global Forecast to 2025" size to grow from USD 1.5 billion in 2020 to USD 3.7 billion by 2025, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 19.7% and post COVID-19 market size is expected to grow from 1.4 billion to 3.6 billion at a CAGR of 19.7% during the forecast period. Increasing users and data-security initiatives by government, growing usage of mobile devices, and rising demand for robust fraud detection and prevention systems are major growth factors for the market. The growing demand for fast and secure users’ identification and regulatory compliances in healthcare to handle patient information with the utmost privacy and proper care would provide opportunities for vendors in the biometric-as-a-service market.
In the solution type, fingerprint scanning segment to hold the largest market size during the forecast period
The fingerprint scanning technology is currently being adopted in various industries, including BFSI, healthcare, government, and other industries. BFSI companies, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Wells Fargo, have started adopting the fingerprint scanning technology on a large scale for securing transactions. Despite its numerous benefits, certain factors, such as the use of dirty or damaged fingers and aridity & wetness of digits used for authentication, are seen to have a significant impact in terms of accuracy of the fingerprint scanning technology.
In modality, multimodal segment to grow at a higher CAGR during the forecast period
Multimodal solutions are more secure as compared to unimodal solutions. Moreover, these systems are more accurate and are less prone to image matching and acquisition errors. Data acquisition errors, such as failure-to-acquire and failure-to-enroll, and data-matching errors measured in terms of false match rate, are lower in the case of multimodal authentication. Consequently, these systems are increasingly being adopted in all the industries and are gaining wide user acceptance.
North America to hold the largest market size during the forecast period
North America, a technologically advanced region with a high number of early adopters and the presence of major market players, is expected to contribute the highest market share in terms of revenues during the forecast period. Factors such as large-scale funded programs and employee access monitoring in buildings are driving the revenue growth in this region.
Major vendors in the global biometric-as-a-service market include Idemia (France), NEC (Japan), Thales (France), M2SYS (US), Fujitsu (Japan), Aware (US), Leidos (US), Nuance (US),  Certisign (Brazil), HYPR (US), BioID (Germany), Ayonix (Japan), Phonexia (US), Lexis Nexis (US), Cognitec Systems (Germany), Iritech (US), Affectiva (US), Nviso (Switzerland), Fingerprints (Sweden), Bayometric (US), Google (US), Microsoft (US), IBM (US), Amazon (US), and Accenture (Ireland).

The first step to using your Chase credit card as a bank is to understand how it works. When you use your card, you are actually authorizing the bank to process transactions on your behalf. This means that the bank will handle all of the financial transactions for you. You can then use your Chase credit card to purchase goods and services, make loans, pay bills, and more.
Use Your Credit Card to Purchase Goods and Services.
One of the best ways to use your Chase credit card for purchases is by using it as a way to buy items and services. For example, you could use your Chase credit card to buy groceries or car rentals. You can also use your Chase credit card to purchase items like clothes or home decorations from local stores. By using your Chase credit card as a way to purchase these types of items and services, you’ll be able to save money while still enjoying good quality products and service.
Use Your Credit Card To Deposit Funds.
Another great way to save money with your Chasecredit card is by depositing funds into the bank account associated with your account before making any purchases. This will help reduce the amount of time you spend trying to get cash out of an ATM or tryingto spend money in multiple places at once (which can be difficult when traveling). You can also use this method if you have high balances on your account because it will take less time for those funds to be deposited into the bank than if you had to tryto redeposit them every time you bought something!
Use Your Credit Card To Pay Your Bill.
Last but not least, don’t forget about using your Chase credit card as a way to pay bills! By doing so, you’ll be able reduce interest rates on outstanding debts and get quick gratification without having too much trouble paying back what you owe in a timely manner!
Conclusion
Using your Chase credit card can be a very beneficial experience. By using it to purchase goods or services, deposit funds, and pay bills, you can easily get the items or services you need and save money on your next purchase. Additionally, by following some tips for using your Chase credit card, you can make sure that everything goes smoothly and without any problems.

Organic Antidepressants

The days were far longer than they were before… at least it felt that way.
I knew I should’ve died that day. I wish I had died that day. The day the trumpets of the apocalypse decided to ring gloriously over our god forsaken planet.
Anyone younger than thirteen? What a fucking joke.
The cot stuffed with hay was one of the few things that brought me comfort in the day to day. The odd number of children allowed for me to be alone. I liked it that way. More me time. And the most I wanted to do was return to it. But instead, my feet dragged down the busy streets, making my way to the blood bank.
On my way though, I could hear the guards making excuses to their superiors. Apparently three humans on the register were found dead in their terf.
“They committed suicide. You know how they get when they’re cooped up. I didn’t touch them, honest.”
“They got sick. Died of their illness I guess.”
Bastards took them for themselves. Everyone knew it. But were they going to confront them? They weren’t protected. The vamps just thought they could get away with it.
“Hey we have enough. Three won’t make a dent.”
Not even caring that those children had futures. Well, would’ve had futures. Those were stripped away as quick as the adults were.
I wanted to be happy. We all did.
But in this place? Laughable. You had a better chance of being an astronaut. Well… maybe not. But it sure felt that way.
You know how to be happy right?
 “First and Last name?”
I answered.
“First open table.”
No matter how many times I’ve done this already, the dread won’t leave. The feeling of their eyes. I could see the barely restrained hunger. If anyone was left alone, they’d take a bag for the rations and the kid for themselves.
You could ask the vamp to take extra.
I shuddered and plopped myself on the medical bed. “Good morning.”
An unamused grunt was my reply. I was the scum of the earth not worth talking to, apparently.
He’s right, isn’t he?
The needle was quick. He hadn’t even bothered to give a warning. It was a pinch, a wave of nausea, and then it was over. He tossed the pouch of their nasty sustenance formula in my hands and pointed to the door.
“Thanks.” I walked out and threw myself on the floor beside the benches. I opened my disgusting capri-sun wannabe and began to suck on it. I cringed at the taste.
There were two boys on the stairs. One obviously more displeased about the situation than the other. He crinkled the full bag and threw it across the clearing. If I had the balls and the same cripplingly low amount of braincells as he did, I would probably do the same.
The other boy, far more mature than the other, stood up after chugging his to throw his pouch away. He seemed to be taking the situation much better than the other. He had beautiful blonde hair and deep blue eyes. If he wasn’t in this hell hole, he could’ve been a child model.
The thought made me sad. What could’ve been. I could’ve been somebody.
Maybe you’ll get a fresh start in the next life.
Apparently, I had zoned out far longer than I thought because the next thing I knew, a fight had broken out.
If you could call a young boy threatened to be chucked off the ledge a fight anyway. He was soon thrown to the side with enough force to send him reeling.
A well-dressed vampire walked with purpose down the stairs. Shoulders back, chin up. He seemed regal.
He certainly looked like royalty.
“Lord Ferid!” The little blonde boy ran up to him. The two seemed close enough, which sent my mind reeling.
How does a kid get that close with a nobleman like him? They seem friendly.
“Ah~ Mika!” The noble -presumably named Ferid- gave him a kind smile. “What on earth seems to be the matter?”
He talked like royalty too.
I couldn’t stop staring. After a few minutes of banter, the noble took his hand from the blonde’s face and sent him on his way. He had said something about meeting at his mansion. I brought myself up from the floor and chased after the blonde.
*
Two days after the talk with Mika, I stood at the noble’s door.
“If you give your blood, he’ll give you anything you want!”
I rose an eyebrow. “Really? Anything?”
Mika nodded proudly. “Yup! Though he’s busy tonight. But the day after I’d try it.”
Maybe he can take the pain away.
I took a few controlled breaths. This screamed danger. It’s a vampire. They kill people
Why are you so scared? It’s not like your life could get worse.
I knocked on his door.
It swung open, seemingly on its own accord. The motion invited me in. Once I was past the threshold, I gently closed the door and looked inside.
There he sat, lounging on a tasteful white couch with gold accented frames. In the dim candlelight he almost resembled an angel.
An angel of death, perhaps?
He looked up from his book and turned his attention towards me. My body froze. I felt my self-confidence leave. Not like I had much left anyway.
He called my name, somehow. Mika must’ve told him or something. Though, something nagged at me. I don’t remember telling Mika my name. Mika hadn’t even told me his. It was all overheard. Then how?
“Come, sit.” He patted the seat next to him on the couch.
I sat down on the chair across from him instead.
“Over here, my dear.” He patted the spot next to him louder, trying to coax me over like I were an animal.
Though, that’s probably how he saw my species anyway, isn’t it?
“My dearest Mika had told me about your visit a few nights ago. I wouldn’t have thought he would’ve told anyone about the little arrangement I have going on here, but I’m not complaining.” He sighed, seemingly content. “I wasn’t expecting someone of your age to be here, how are you still here? You have me curious.”
“If I’m honest, milord, I don’t quite know.” I said, trying to keep my voice as steady as possible. But the calculating feeling of his gaze made it harder. “Luck? Possibly?”
“Luck?” He leaned back and turned himself towards me. “Is it truly luck?”
“With all due respect, what’s that supposed to mean?”
You know what he means, and you know he’s right.
He smiled at me, not meeting my eyes. Ah. Okay.
“So, what are you hoping to get out of this?” He scooted closer. “As much as I’d like to think you’re here out of the kindness of your heart, we both know that isn’t the case, now is it?”
I nodded; heat crept its way up my face. “Yeah, but I suppose that doesn’t make me irregular.” I grumbled. “But I suppose that also makes me boring doesn’t it?”
He shrugged. “That entirely depends on you, my dear.”
I tugged at my uniform and cleared my throat. “Yeah I guess that’s fair.”
“Back to the topic at hand, yes?” He smiled and placed a gloved hand on my shoulder.
I suppressed a shudder. “Right. I guess I should cut to the chase.” I finally had the courage to look into his eyes.
Those damn eyes, despite the almost ravenous look in them, I couldn’t help but find them entrancing. Like shiny rubies in where his irises should be. He raised his eyebrows, awaiting an answer.
“Antidepressants.”
And I would’ve never thought his grin could get bigger. “Antidepressants? Now that’s something I haven’t heard before.”
In a place like this? Really? “I’m sure you would’ve heard everything by now.”
“And I thought I would’ve heard it all by now too. But I suppose not.” He ran his hand down my back
I gingerly grabbed his hand and put it back on his lap. “Sorry.” I mumbled.
“No~ Don’t apologize. It’s quite alright.” He folded his hands in his lap, he smiled at me. “If I were in a situation like yours, I don’t think I’d want to be touched either.”
My gaze fell. “Right. A situation like mine.” I slapped my cheeks gently to liven myself up. “Back to the deal though.”
“Actually, before we continue, what do you need them for? Medicine isn’t allowed down here unless regulated, considering how it effects the blood. Someone as old as you should know that.”
“Yeah, but why else would someone need antidepressants?”
He stared at me. His expression left no room for argument. He wanted an answer. His lips tugged into a smile. A kind looking one, but it left something unsaid.
“Why do you really need them?”
It’s not like you have anything else to lose, right? Tell him. You’ll feel better. He can make you better.
I sighed and ran my hands through my hair, leaning back onto the couch. “Look, how old do you think I am?”
“Too old to be here at this age, certainly.” He shrugged and made himself comfortable next to me. Close enough to grab me, but far enough not to invade my personal bubble.
“And why do you think that is?” I looked to the wall, hoping to find a distraction to focus on anything else but how close he was. But found nothing but pristine white.
“This world’s god is cruel.” He said. “It seemed they chose to bless you instead of damning you to the fate of your elders.”
I laughed. “Bless me?” I ran my hands faster through my hair, tugging at the ends to ground me. “What kind of blessing is this? I’m stuck down here to live until old age, vitamin deficiency or illness takes me? I’d rather be with my friends and family.”
You could join them. There’s plenty of spaces to do so. You could fly like an angel.
“You could always make your situation better.” His voice softened.
“That’s why I’m here.” I took my hands from my hair and began to fiddle with my identification tag. “I thought if I struck a deal with you, I’d get the opportunity to make things better. To make things as they should be.”
“But if you were to make things as they should be, then I know the real reason you want those pills, don’t you?”
“I didn’t mean it like that I—” I felt my throat close. Tears stung the back of my eyes, I fought desperately to bite them back.
This didn’t go unnoticed.
“You did, and it’s okay.” His hand made its way to my hair. I couldn’t find the strength to fight him. It’s not like he was going to harm me if he wanted this deal to work. “You know your very existence is a burden to you. And you want to fix it. You humans were always so independent.” He whispered. He paused to take off his glove and used his sharp nails to comb my hair. “But you know it’s okay to ask for help, right?”
“Nobody would give me help. They wouldn’t understand or wouldn’t care. I’d rather just…” I swallowed hard.
“End it? Now don’t be ridiculous.” He placed my head on his shoulder, presumably for easier access. “What if there truly isn’t a happy end if you end it? You’d lament not fixing it while you could. And suicide isn’t beneficial to anyone, little lamb.” His hand reached to touch my face. Despite his hands being cold, something inside me warmed.
This can’t be right. It isn’t right. He’s a vampire he’s just like the rest of them—
But he cares.
No. He doesn’t he just wants me to think he does.
But what if he truly does care?
“Why are you even trying to talk me down? Wouldn’t it be better for you to just give me the pills and then you get a drink?” It’s not like I didn’t have a plan B if he said no.
“How selfish do you think I am? I’m wounded.” He pulled my head onto his lap, his hands playing with tufts and braiding the longer pieces. “Who would want someone else to take their life for the sake of a meal?”
I averted my eyes. I sounded like a dick now. “I didn’t think of it like that. I’m sorry.”
“No, don’t apologize. That seems to be a nasty habit that you’ll have to break.” He said. “And I have an idea that could be beneficial to both of us in the long term, if you’re interested.” His hand moved my head to look up. I could see his furrowed brow and soft smile. I felt the remaining fears I had slowly dissipate.
“Yeah?”
“You can stay with me. I think I would miss you if you were gone.”
“You… You would?”
“Of course, I would. You’re full of untapped potential. And I think I could help ease those pains preventing them from coming to fruition.” He smiled. “All you have to do is say yes~.”
I slowly sat up, taking in his words.
He could make you feel wanted. You didn’t need to run anymore.
“I…”
You could have someone take care of you and like you for you, isn’t that all you’ve wanted? Someone who knows how to make things better? Someone who can save you?
“I think… I would like that.”
His smile reached his eyes. “As would I, my dear.” He hoisted me onto his lap. “Now, to seal the deal.” He unbuttoned the top few buttons of my uniform and removed my identification collar. “Have you ever been bitten directly?”
I shook my head.
“Now don’t worry. It won’t hurt for long. Like a pinprick.” He gave my nose a small bop. “Like a more organic needle. Just, try not to squirm too much. I don’t want to accidentally rip your internal carotid, and I’m sure you wouldn’t want that either.”
I took a deep breath. “Okay…” I tried to calm my nerves. “okay I can do this.”
He placed his hand on the small of my back and gently pushed me to his chest. “On the count of three, alright?”
I flexed my fingers, trying to ease my nerves. “Alright…”
“One…”
I felt his warm breath on my neck, making me tense.
He rubbed my head with his free hand. “Two…”
I squeezed my eyes shut.
“Three.”
It was much more painful than he had said. It felt like two spears digging perpendicularly into my skin. Slow and agonizing. I gripped his coat tightly. His hands continued to attempt to soothe me.
“Shhh~ The pain won’t last much longer.” He cooed. I could feel his lips moving on my skin at he talked.
The pain didn’t go away, but something arose within. The area where his fangs pierced me grew numb. I could still feel his fangs in my skin, its presence foreign. But it wasn’t uncomfortable.
It felt like warmth and welcome, if those feelings could resonate inside. My mind grew foggier. Pleasantly ignorant. I couldn’t hear anything else but the faint slurping and my own heartbeat. It was nice. I felt my eyes roll back and my body grow weaker. I gave Ferid’s coat a fatigued tug.
He pulled away slowly, and I whined at the loss. I slumped against his shoulder, the last of my remaining strength left along with his fangs.
His hand moved from the back of my head to my shoulders. He stood up with me in his arms. My eyes fought to stay open. I saw the faint image of Ferid’s face with a small stream of blood falling from his lips.
The light from the candle illuminated the space behind him, bathing him in a heavenly glow. He seemed a little livelier than before, too.
“That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
I tried to get a word out, but it came out a strangled whimper.
He smiled and shook his head, tutting softly. “I think I took too much, don’t you?” He walked down the hall with my limp body in his arms.
Ferid arrived in a large bedroom and placed me neatly under the covers and tucked me in. He sat next to me on my left side. He brushed a few stray hairs from my face and gave me a small kiss on the forehead.
“I do believe you need your rest. I’ll be back when you wake, my dear. I promise.” His hand moved from my forehead to my cheek as he gave it one final caress.
In my failing consciousness, I heard a gentle laugh
“Sleep well my lamb you’ll feel better in the morning. You’ll never feel empty again.”
And in the enveloping darkness, I saw him smirk.

Importance of AI Professionals in Banking
Banks are Banking on AI Professionals
Every sector is analyzing their options to adopt technologies that will help them create more value. Banking sector is no exception and is now witnessing unprecedented changes including but not limited to growth in customer-centricity. Digitizing processes and harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence is making Banking and Financial Service Providers offer smooth services. According to a research conducted by National Business Research Institute (NBRI) and Narrative Science, approximately 32% of the financial service providers are utilizing Artificial Intelligence Technologies such as Machine Learning, Voice Recognition, Image Recognition, Predictive Analysis, etc.
Cognitive technologies are transforming all sectors, thus encouraging Executive managers to explore applications of AI in Banking field as well. At its nascent phase, AI professionals have started to assist Banking professionals to:
Improve underwriting performances
Mitigate Risks and Frauds
Boost Marketing Efforts
Enhance Customer Service
Contract Intelligence (COiN)- Case Study
To manage all the mundane tasks including interpretation of the commercial loan agreements, a bank usually hires loan officers and lawyers. These officers and lawyers spend 360,000 hours per year on these humdrum tasks. Needless to mention, the skills and abilities of employees can be put to better use, if a machine could take care of these repetitive tasks.
To address the problem, JP Morgan Chase carried out a program known as Contract Intelligence (COiN) Platform. COiN uses the unsupervised learning part of the Machine Learning. Once deployed, the platform would require minimal or no human participation in the work. As a result, employees can focus on solving bigger and more complex problems instead of spending time on repetitive tasks.
AI Modernizing Banking Sector
AI assists banks in reforming their customer service experience such as seamless customer identification & their authentication, chatbots, voice assistants, and to strengthen relationships with customers. However, the application of AI is not limited to retail services. AI also helps in detecting and preventing payment frauds, thus improving Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) processes. Following are the ways in which AI helps Banking and Financial Service Providers:
Fraud Detection: It has been found that AI increases fraud detection by around 50%. Since banks and financial services generate data in huge amounts, analyzing these data manually requires time and the chances of committing errors is also high. To mitigate the challenges banks have AI-enabled models in place. These advanced models help in identifying the flow of funds, detecting and notifying fraudulent transactions in real-time.
Cost Optimization: By the year 2023, banks can save approximately US$447 billion by switching to the AI system of Banking. AI minimizes time consumption and reduces error rate by digitizing the documentation process.
Customer Engagement: HDFC Bank’s virtual assistant or chatbot successfully handles more than 5 lakh users and answers more than 2.7 million queries. The chatbots significantly decrease response time and make the communication process smooth.
Improved Security: New technologies come with security challenges that must be addressed beforehand. Since customer’s data is sensitive, banks need to keep them private and protect them against security breaches and frauds. AI combined with blockchain technology offers a stable solution for securing sensitive information. Algorithms powered by AI offer multi-layer robust security systems.
Role of AI professionals in Banking Sector:

“DESPERATE FIGHT WITH PAIR WANTED IN BANK ASSAULT,” Montreal Star. October 27, 1921. Page 3. ---- Police Rained Bullets on Two Men Who Had Been Living in Central Y.M.C.A .— Pair Captured After Thrilling Fight — Bank Claims One Identification --- After a fusillade of bullets had been fired by city detectives on Drummond street last night Norman Ryan, alias Norman J. Bell, alias Albert Slade, and Patrick O'Hara were arrested at 10.05 o'clock last night, charged with being implicated In the hold up of the Park avenue Branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce on Tuesday last.
They were living at the Central Y.M.C.A., Drummond street.
Ryan known as the "Lone Bandit" is also wanted in Hamilton, Ontario, for holding up three different banks during the past few months. He was identified this morning by Eugene Laflamme, Bertillion expert at Detective Headquarters from a circular received from the Hamilton authorities yesterday.
J. H. Carnegie, manager of the branch of the Bank of Commerce, held up Tuesday, identified Ryan today as the man who had entered tho bank and who fled after a revolver duel.
According to officials of the Y.M.C.A, the two men registered at the Central Branch on Sunday night. They were assigned to room 407 and signed the register as coming from Brantford, Ontario.
When arrested Ryan had a Ludger automatic revolver and a 38 calibre Iver Johnson in his pockets and a stock of ammunition. O'Hara had an automatic revolver in his possession fully loaded. Both men had railway tickets for Toronto in their possession. The third man alleged to have been implicated in the hold up had already gone to Toronto and the authorities in that city have been requested to apprehend him.
IN COURT THIS AFTERNOON Both Ryan and O'Hara will be arraigned in court this afternoon charged with the attempted murder of George Drew, teller in the Bank of Commerce, and also with attempted robbery. The accuse will also be charged with carrying loaded fire arms.
The capture of the two was the outcome of a plan laid by Chief of Detectives Lepage and his men. Information was received was received yesterday afternoon that the men wanted for the attempted robbery of the brink were staying at the Y.M.C.A. Puns to make the arrest were made at 7.30 last night, but the quarry did not show up until 10 o'clock. The two had been residing at the Y.M.C.A. but had not been in for the past two days. They had also removed their baggage. O'Hara came along first and was promptly arrested.
Detectives were placed at intervals along the street and a large number of constables were held in readiness at the St. Catharines street west station in case it should be necessary to surround the Y.M.C.A. building.
PUT UP FIGHT When the man whom the police allege is the Ione bandit was stopped he did not submit without a fight. Five shots were fired at him by Detectives O'Donnel and Savard as the man attempted to escape. Detective Savard was hiding beside a tree when Ryan stepped out of the Y.M.C.A. building. Others officers were busy pulling O’Hara into an automobile. Savard stepped out on the sidewalk and commenced walking towards Ryan. As he was within a few feet, Ryan stopped and looked at him. He rlushed at the detective and pushed him aside. Detective O'Donnel, a little further down the street, Savard started after him at the same time calling to O’Donnel.
The suspect, the officers allege, pulled out a revolver. The officers did likewise. "Shoot, O'Donnel, shoot" yelled Savard.
O'Donnel shot twice, the bullets penetrating the coat of the surrounded man. Savard by this time was within six feet of his quarry and he drew his gun. He called to stop, but in return the man turned around and attempted to get an aim at Savard. Savard then fired three shots in quick succession; those shots also passing through the man's coat tails.
FIGHT BEHIND HOUSE The chase by this time had lead across Drummond street opposite the Y.M.C.A. and behind an old house. Here the chased turned around and turned his gun on Savard. The officer made a leap and bore the man to the ground at the same time grabbing the revolver. O'Donnel piled on top of the struggling men. The guns were taken away from Ryan and handcuffs put on him. In the scuffle he got hit in the face and the officers thinking he was wounded carried him to the waiting automobile and rushed him to the hospital. Here it was found the man was not wounded and he was taken to Detective Headquarters. While being taken to head quarters Ryan told Savard that "he was just as glad they got him, or else he would have got them.”
CAREER OF ONE MAN The career of the man identified as Ryan reads almost like a chapter from the history of Jesse James. In July of this year, he is alleged to have held up the Bank of Hamilton in Hamilton, Ontario, and at the point of a revolver got away with $4,000.
On Oct. 13, he held up another branch it is alleged of the Bank of Hamilton but was driven off by the fire of a revolver in the hands of the manager. The next day he successfully held up it is said the Union Bank in Hamilton and got away with $1,970. Since that time a search of the country has been made for him. A peculiar feature of the working of this man it is claimed is that he always works alone.
Very little is known of O'Hara, although this is not believed to be his right name. He claims to come from Detroit. He was the first man to be arrested. Detective Tlerney, watching for the man, was stationed just below the Y.M.C.A. building on Drummond street. He saw O'Hara pass him on the street and went after him. O'Hara started to run in the direction of Sherbrooke street. Tierney called to him to stop but he ran on. Tierney drew his revolver and fire two shots. Constable Payette, chauffeur for Chief of Detective Lepage was coming down the street towards the man. As the fleeing man was passing Payette, the constable took a swing at him and knocked him against a tree. Detective Robillard was behind the tree and jumped on O'Hara. Dress For Where You're Going, Not For Where You've Been
Day 5:
I have my morning routine down. I used to think I didn't like routine. I equated routines with ruts. But, man I love a routine. I fall in to them pretty quickly. They give me some stability. I find value in doing the same thing for certain things every time. Other things, like driving to and from a place every day, i like to mix that up to chase away the monotony. I find my routine, it just comes naturally, I never force it. I might say, I need to add this or that, but it always works itself out and coalesces into my routine.
I've been drinking this Belizean coffee, Caye Coffee, since I got here. I like it. It's local, well roasted locally. I'm not sure if it's grown here somewhere. There is one coffee, called Gallon Jug, that is grown here, however. That is not the brand I have been drinking. I bought a small bag of the ground coffee to make at the condo, and that's what I have been drinking in the mornings. I also bought a bag of Belize Gourmet Coffee's whole bean coffee, that was grown in Guatemala, which is really just up the street, and a bag of Gallon Jug's whole bean. It will be interesting to see what it all tastes like.
I couldn't remember if we were going to look at condos today or tomorrow. I hit Natasha up, and she said we were doing that tomorrow. So I planned on taking the water taxi to Caye Caulker for the day. I got down to the boat at 1pm, and planned on staying on Caye Caulker until 6:15 when the last boat returning was coming back. Caulker is a little different than Ambergris. It's way smaller, way less people, quieter, way less golf carts, and less busy. Not that Ambergris, and San Pedro especially are "busy." But, San Pedro has more going on than Caye Caulker Village does. I walked a lot. My feet hurt from all the walking I've been doing, and I have a blister on my right foot, which is something that happens when I walk too much in flops that have seen better days, or don't fit right.
(I've been trying to find some new ones, but the size 12s they have here seem too small, and no one seems to have anything bigger)
I got off the boat and wanted to find a place to eat. I didn't want to go to the very first place I saw, so I went past the joint that was right there at the boat dock, and went south a ways. I found a place called Island Magic. They had a really cool seating set up. The table were suspended by ropes, like swings, and some of the seats were too. They had these upstairs tables that reminded me of a tree house. All in all the place was super cool in the atmosphere department. The menu was smaller than I would have liked, but Covid and it being an island, and lobster and avocados being out of season, and the server said they didn't have shrimp either made it that much smaller. I had chicken kebobs that were very good, and they had sinks by the restrooms that had seashells as spouts.
(I don't know if they intended them to look like vaginas or what, but the sure do look like vaginas)
I found this place that has hammocks out under some coconut trees. I need to be a customer to use them, so I go in. They have coffee drinks, and smoothie drinks, and coffee smoothie drinks. But they only take cash. And, I left my cash back at the condo. I didn't want to have to worry about it if I decided to go swimming. I can't grasp why I thought that was going to be a thing, now, but at the time that was my thinking. So, they sent me to an ATM. With some vague directions and just my credit card, because I lost my debit card the other day, I set out to fund a peanut butter coffee smoothie thing and a fucking hammock so I could just hang out somewhere and stay off my blistered foot.
(I already called my bank and stopped my card. The new one should be waiting for me when I get back, or at least soon after. I don't use it as much ass I used to, so it isn't a big deal to not have it, except when I need cash)
I decided to go the opposite direction the barista sent me. Mainly because I'm pretty sure my credit card isn't set up to get money out of an ATM. I seem to remember having an unsatisfying experience trying to do that once. Something about not knowing my P. I. N.
(Here's a bonus: how many people know what A. T. M. and P. I. N. stand for? Well, I'll tell ya. Automated Teller Machine, and Personal Identification Number. So, if you say ATM machine or PIN number, you are being redundant. You are really saying, Automated Teller Machine machine, and Personal Identification Number number. Same goes for a V. I. N. or Vehicle Identification Number, number)
I walk down to what's known as The Split. It is a place where Caye Caulker is divided in two. They used to connect, but apparently, according to legend, a famed 1961 hurricane, Hurricane Hattie hit the island and caused The Split. I find it odd that everything I've found on the subject so far says that people are unsure if that's what caused it of not. How are they not sure?
It's pretty neat in any event. I walked there, and walked around the end and then back up toward the hammocks and the peanut butter thing, only on the other side of the island. It was an interesting walk. Felt a lot more rural than San Pedro. After stopping at a couple of places I finally found the ATM. It was in a bank, and sure as shit, my credit card would not open the door to the little room where the machine was. And, the doors to the bank were locked. They were closed I guess. So, no hammock for birthday boy Stevie D!
I walked back up to the beach to find somewhere to just chill for the next three hours. I ended up back at that place I didn't eat at because it was the first place I saw. They had swing seats that looked out over the beach, such as it is. And, some chairs out on the beach. So, I ordered a virgin pina colada and laid down in the one lounger they had. I decided to get another drink, and maybe move up under the shady patio. This time I sat on one of the swing seats and drank another VPC and a soda water. It was about this time that I realized that I didn't have to wait another hour and a half for the 6:15 boat. I could take the earlier 5:15 boat back to San Pedro. I don't know why I was thinking I had to stay until 6:15.
These four women rolled up and sat at one of the picnic tables out front. They looked like they had been having a good time. They were drinking, not stupid drunk or anything. It became more apparent that some were drunker than others when one of them started freaking out because they only had three minutes to get to the boat to go back to, presumably Belize City. I thought it was funny because the boat pier was literally a 30 second walk from where we were. They could have thrown their mojito glass and hit it from there. This dude that works at this bar told them that the boat wasn't even there yet. As in fact you could look over and see that it wasn't. So they calmed down. I decided I was going to go back on the 5:15 boat. But, at 5:15 it wasn't there yet either.
Finally a boat shows up. The women get up and walk over to the pier. I swear I'm not the mask police, but I feel that if I have to wear one, so do you, and only one of them put theirs on, and they strolled right over to the boat. I finished my drinks and walked over there too. They seemed a little stressed. I'm not sure what was going on, but at least one of them was pretty worried that they were not going to get to where they wanted to go. I asked if this boat was going to San Pedro, and it was, so I gather that they were not going there. I left them and their unmasked faces there. To be fair, no one was saying shit to them about wearing a mask. I think people the world over are pretty much over this whole pandemic thing.
(If there is some spike in Covid cases in Belize, it's because of drunk Americans. Pretty sure)
I get on the boat, they don't. I go sit up top. I am sitting with the muthafuckin' Captain and shit! It was different riding up there. A much better view. More wind tho. I get back, go to the condo, relax a bit, then head out for my birthday dinner. I went to this joint I've walked by tons called Elvie's. I ordered the street corn, and the Mayan Chicken, and a slice of key lime pie. It was awesome. I loved the Mayan spices and the coconut rice. I walked home and sat on the balcony and pondered another year on this planet.

i watched 10.17 a few days ago and this has been lingering in my drafts since then because i forgot to post it! as always, rambles about the episode behind the cut.
i’m for once really glad for the “previously on” recap, because it showed us the yakuza big bird telling adam that adam is going to be his eyes and ears in five-0 and the bit where steve welcomes adam back home, which i had both forgotten about, and which make the last two episodes make slightly more sense adam-wise
oh BOY. tani and junior are incredibly cute and then suddenly, bam, car sex. i’m really happy for them!!! but i’m also really scared that with how quickly this is happening suddenly, it’s a prelude to something bad happening that they don’t know about yet, ahhhh. they don’t deserve that! they deserve their happy post-coital snuggling, even if it’s in a car.
fjdkfd steve and danny at a literary festival, bickering (obviously), is not something i knew i wanted. also. tom clancy. dear lord, steve, if you want to sound like a guy who likes reading, you might want to dig a little deeper than the number one most obvious choice. :p
oh gOD harry is here!! maybe i should have known that but i DID NOT.
harry: “it seems, uh. it seems i’ve written a best-selling book.” as a person who pretends to know things about writing and has never published anything but definitely done a lot of research on the subject, i am both intrigued and made very wary by the implication that harry accidentally wrote a best-seller. go on.
fjdkfdjkfdjfkd it’s EXACTLY the story i was expecting him to tell, which is that he randomly sat down one day, had a manuscript within a few weeks, sent it to a friend and was immediately offered a seven figure book deal. i both hate and love this, because this is in no way how anything at all works, but it’s also very... harry langford, by which i mean basically james bond, by which i mean definitely a male mary sure, which to be clear in this case i don’t mind, but does amuse me greatly.
oh my gosh, the dramatics with harry suddenly talking nonsense at no one and then it turns out he has an earpiece in to talk to his “literary alter ego”, i just. oh my god. this is all so stupid and i love it.
fjdkfjdkfjdk steve’s little cyrano namedrop with a meaningfully faux-whispered “de bergerac” in danny’s direction is killing me dead, haha. well done, steve! you know at least one (1) literary reference that is not tom clancy. i’m sure danny will be deeply impressed.
right, so deirdre naysmith was a fictional crime writer and maureen townsend was the real life writer behind her. the agatha christie vibes are strong with this one.
we’re switching kind of abruptly from steve on the phone with lou about the case, to steve at hq in his office with adam, talking about tanaka and how they haven’t caught him yet, and then he tells adam that he knows adam did what he did for good reasons and adam’s FACE. he does not look entirely convinced of his own good reasons, pff.
adam: [turns to leave] steve: “hey. i trust you, okay?” oh dear lord, this hurts.
danny: “it’s like a vintage murder art project, or something.” what a lovely description!
junior and tani walk in!!! and there are huge smiles all around and it’s super cute and then the FIRST THING danny says to junior is “i have a confession to make. i’ve been uh, sleeping in your bed” and LOOK, no offense, dear h50 writers, because you were very close there, but you made danny say that to the wrong seal. totally understandable mistake, just make sure to keep an eye on it next time.
they have to go back to the literary fair for their case so steve throws up a hand and goes “just came from there” and danny says “well you love books, so we’ll go back” and that’s some good throwback banter on its own, but what really makes it for me is that in the brief reaction shot of steve we get to also see junior crack a huge grin. sometimes a family is two bickering dads involved in the slowest friends to lovers slow burn in human history and their navy seal son (and a whole bunch of other people) and that’s not only okay, it’s pretty damn great.
harry’s double gets abducted, because of course he does, but he didn’t deserve that! he’s just an idiot who stumbled into a really nice, really dangerous job.
harry tells junior (who is at the wheel as they’re chasing down harry’s double) to “drive it like you stole it, my friend”, which i get, but also makes me think junior should slow down and stick to traffic laws, because if he had actually stolen the car he wouldn’t want to attract the attention of the police by speeding and causing near-collosions.
harry is guiding his double through transferring harry’s money, like the kidnappers asked, and we’re casually told he has a total balance of ten million hidden cleverly behind the password “LAN9F0RD” and all of it is objectively hilarious, fjdkf.
adam is now climbing a tree in the middle of the forest to do something with a camera, and i really wish this means his subplot gets switched to “adam has developed an interest in birdwatching since the divorce and is hoping he caught this rare species of [insert type of bird] on tape!” instead of more crime stuff.
harry transfers the money for the kidnappers and there’s probably some ruse or trick involved (either that, or it turns out he actually owns like, another ninety million), but also... would any reputable bank just let you remotely transfer ten million while only requesting a username and a password? i feel like my bank asks for better identification if i just want to view my own balance.
fdjkfd harry employed an ex in the caymans to get the money back from the kidnappers’ guy there, and she tells him she’s keeping it now because he never called her back. beautiful, A+, i love this. i hope she lives her best life with this new fortune.
so. harry’s double has been rescued and is in harry’s expensive hotel suite going “thanks for letting me use the bathroom” (shower, it’s implied he used the shower) while there is some piano music in the background that could be taken as vaguely romantic and they kind of swagger each others’ way and harry says something about the finer things in life while sort of toasting his double’s face with his drink and i’m not saying harry definitely slept with this guy, but, you know. i’m not not saying it.
there are fireworks! and i’m not sure why (what american holiday am i missing? are fireworks a set part of every literary festival?) but steve and danny and harry and tani and junior are on a balcony and looking at it and it’s very pretty, and tani and junior hold PINKIES, which is almost painfully cute, dammit.
ah, adam’s mystery tape shows two executions instead of pretty birds, which is a bummer. hate when that happens.
this was such a good episode though!! again!!! seeing harry again was a lot of fun, the main plot was ridiculous but also super fun, and tani and junior got to actually be happy for a little bit without immediately being thrown into turmoil for whatever reason, and that’s also wonderful. and oh my god, i enjoyed all of the side characters so much - harry, harry’s stand-in, the woman who was obsessed with a mystery writer from the past and ended up being the murderer. they were all such characters and just really delightful to watch, honestly, which is awesome because it means it wasn’t just the main cast that i’m here for. (adam, though. oh, adam. what are the writers doing to you? i minded his subplot less this episode, but mostly because it got less screentime.)

Biometric-as-a-Service Market Innovations, Technology Growth and Research -2025
The report "Biometric-as-a-Service Market Forecast by Offering, Solution (Fingerprint Recognition, Iris Recognition, Voice Recognition, Palm & Vein Recognition), Trait (Physiological, Behavioral), Modality, Organization Size, Vertical, Region-Global Forecast to 2025" size to grow from USD 1.5 billion in 2020 to USD 3.7 billion by 2025, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 19.7% and post COVID-19 market size is expected to grow from 1.4 billion to 3.6 billion at a CAGR of 19.7% during the forecast period.
