Since ChatGPT launched in late 2022, students have been among its most avid adopters. When the rapid growth in users stalled in the late spring of ’23, it briefly looked like the AI bubble might be popping, but growth resumed that September; the cause of the decline was simply summer break. Even as other kinds of organizations struggle to use a tool that can be strikingly powerful and surprisingly inept in turn, AI’s utility to students asked to produce 1,500 words on Hamlet or the Great Leap Forward was immediately obvious, and is the source of the current campaigns by OpenAI and others to offer student discounts, as a form of customer acquisition.
Every year, 15 million or so undergraduates in the United States produce papers and exams running to billions of words. While the output of any given course is student assignments — papers, exams, research projects, and so on — the product of that course is student experience. “Learning results from what the student does and thinks,” as the great educational theorist Herbert Simon once noted, “and only as a result of what the student does and thinks.” The assignment itself is a MacGuffin, with the shelf life of sour cream and an economic value that rounds to zero dollars. It is valuable only as a way to compel student effort and thought.
The utility of written assignments relies on two assumptions: The first is that to write about something, the student has to understand the subject and organize their thoughts. The second is that grading student writing amounts to assessing the effort and thought that went into it. At the end of 2022, the logic of this proposition — never ironclad — began to fall apart completely. The writing a student produces and the experience they have can now be decoupled as easily as typing a prompt, which means that grading student writing might now be unrelated to assessing what the student has learned to comprehend or express.
Generative AI can be useful for learning. These tools are good at creating explanations for difficult concepts, practice quizzes, study guides, and so on. Students can write a paper and ask for feedback on diction, or see what a rewrite at various reading levels looks like, or request a summary to check if their meaning is clear. Engaged uses have been visible since ChatGPT launched, side by side with the lazy ones. But the fact that AI might help students learn is no guarantee it will help them learn.
After observing that student action and thought is the only possible source of learning, Simon concluded, “The teacher can advance learning only by influencing the student to learn.” Faced with generative AI in our classrooms, the obvious response for us is to influence students to adopt the helpful uses of AI while persuading them to avoid the harmful ones. Our problem is that we don’t know how to do that.I
am an administrator at New York University, responsible for helping faculty adapt to digital tools. Since the arrival of generative AI, I have spent much of the last two years talking with professors and students to try to understand what is going on in their classrooms. In those conversations, faculty have been variously vexed, curious, angry, or excited about AI, but as last year was winding down, for the first time one of the frequently expressed emotions was sadness. This came from faculty who were, by their account, adopting the strategies my colleagues and I have recommended: emphasizing the connection between effort and learning, responding to AI-generated work by offering a second chance rather than simply grading down, and so on. Those faculty were telling us our recommended strategies were not working as well as we’d hoped, and they were saying it with real distress.
Earlier this semester, an NYU professor told me how he had AI-proofed his assignments, only to have the students complain that the work was too hard. When he told them those were standard assignments, just worded so current AI would fail to answer them, they said he was interfering with their “learning styles.” A student asked for an extension, on the grounds that ChatGPT was down the day the assignment was due. Another said, about work on a problem set, “You’re asking me to go from point A to point B, why wouldn’t I use a car to get there?” And another, when asked about their largely AI-written work, replied, “Everyone is doing it.” Those are stories from a 15-minute conversation with a single professor.
We are also hearing a growing sense of sadness from our students about AI use. One of my colleagues reports students being “deeply conflicted” about AI use, originally adopting it as an aid to studying but persisting with a mix of justification and unease. Some observations she’s collected:
“I’ve become lazier. AI makes reading easier, but it slowly causes my brain to lose the ability to think critically or understand every word.”
“I feel like I rely too much on AI, and it has taken creativity away from me.”
On using AI summaries: “Sometimes I don’t even understand what the text is trying to tell me. Sometimes it’s too much text in a short period of time, and sometimes I’m just not interested in the text.”
“Yeah, it’s helpful, but I’m scared that someday we’ll prefer to read only AI summaries rather than our own, and we’ll become very dependent on AI.”
Much of what’s driving student adoption is anxiety. In addition to the ordinary worries about academic performance, students feel time pressure from jobs, internships, or extracurriculars, and anxiety about GPA and transcripts for employers. It is difficult to say, “Here is a tool that can basically complete assignments for you, thus reducing anxiety and saving you 10 hours of work without eviscerating your GPA. By the way, don’t use it that way.” But for assignments to be meaningful, that sort of student self-restraint is critical.
Self-restraint is also, on present evidence, not universally distributed. Last November, a Reddit post appeared in r/nyu, under the heading “Can’t stop using Chat GPT on HW.” (The poster’s history is consistent with their being an NYU undergraduate as claimed.) The post read:
I literally can’t even go 10 seconds without using Chat when I am doing my assignments. I hate what I have become because I know I am learning NOTHING, but I am too far behind now to get by without using it. I need help, my motivation is gone. I am a senior and I am going to graduate with no retained knowledge from my major.
Given these and many similar observations in the last several months, I’ve realized many of us working on AI in the classroom have made a collective mistake, believing that lazy and engaged uses lie on a spectrum, and that moving our students toward engaged uses would also move them away from the lazy ones.
Faculty and students have been telling me that this is not true, or at least not true enough. Instead of a spectrum, uses of AI are independent options. A student can take an engaged approach to one assignment, a lazy approach on another, and a mix of engaged and lazy on a third. Good uses of AI do not automatically dissuade students from also adopting bad ones; an instructor can introduce AI for essay feedback or test prep without that stopping their student from also using it to write most of their assignments.
Our problem is that we have two problems. One is figuring out how to encourage our students to adopt creative and helpful uses of AI. The other is figuring out how to discourage them from adopting lazy and harmful uses. Those are both important, but the second one is harder.I
t is easy to explain to students that offloading an assignment to ChatGPT creates no more benefit for their intellect than moving a barbell with a forklift does for their strength. We have been alert to this issue since late 2022, and students have consistently reported understanding that some uses of AI are harmful. Yet forgoing easy shortcuts has proven to be as difficult as following a workout routine, and for the same reason: The human mind is incredibly adept at rationalizing pleasurable but unhelpful behavior.
Using these tools can certainly make it feel like you are learning. In her explanatory video “AI Can Do Your Homework. Now What?” the documentarian Joss Fong describes it this way:
Education researchers have this term “desirable difficulties,” which describes this kind of effortful participation that really works but also kind of hurts. And the risk with AI is that we might not preserve that effort, especially because we already tend to misinterpret a little bit of struggling as a signal that we’re not learning.
This preference for the feeling of fluency over desirable difficulties was identified long before generative AI. It’s why students regularly report they learn more from well-delivered lectures than from active learning, even though we know from many studies that the opposite is true. One recent paper was evocatively titled “Measuring Active Learning Versus the Feeling of Learning.” Another concludes that instructor fluency increases perceptions of learning without increasing actual learning.
This is a version of the debate we had when electronic calculators first became widely available in the 1970s. Though many people present calculator use as unproblematic, K-12 teachers still ban them when students are learning arithmetic. One study suggests that students use calculators as a way of circumventing the need to understand a mathematics problem (i.e., the same thing you and I use them for). In another experiment, when using a calculator programmed to “lie,” four in 10 students simply accepted the result that a woman born in 1945 was 114 in 1994. Johns Hopkins students with heavy calculator use in K-12 had worse math grades in college, and many claims about the positive effect of calculators take improved test scores as evidence, which is like concluding that someone can run faster if you give them a car. Calculators obviously have their uses, but we should not pretend that overreliance on them does not damage number sense, as everyone who has ever typed 7 x 8 into a calculator intuitively understands.
Studies of cognitive bias with AI use are starting to show similar patterns. A 2024 study with the blunt title “Generative AI Can Harm Learning” found that “access to GPT-4 significantly improves performance … However, we additionally find that when access is subsequently taken away, students actually perform worse than those who never had access.” Another found that students who have access to a large language model overestimate how much they have learned. A 2025 study from Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft Research concludes that higher confidence in gen AI is associated with less critical thinking. As with calculators, there will be many tasks where automation is more important than user comprehension, but for student work, a tool that improves the output but degrades the experience is a bad tradeoff.I
n 1980 the philosopher John Searle, writing about AI debates at the time, proposed a thought experiment called “The Chinese Room.” Searle imagined an English speaker with no knowledge of the Chinese language sitting in a room with an elaborate set of instructions, in English, for looking up one set of Chinese characters and finding a second set associated with the first. When a piece of paper with words in Chinese written on it slides under the door, the room’s occupant looks it up, draws the corresponding characters on another piece of paper, and slides that back. Unbeknownst to the room’s occupant, Chinese speakers on the other side of the door are slipping questions into the room, and the pieces of paper that slide back out are answers in perfect Chinese. With this imaginary setup, Searle asked whether the room’s occupant actually knows how to read and write Chinese. His answer was an unequivocally no.
When Searle proposed that thought experiment, no working AI could approximate that behavior; the paper was written to highlight the theoretical difference between acting with intent versus merely following instructions. Now it has become just another use of actually existing artificial intelligence, one that can destroy a student’s education.
The recent case of William A., as he was known in court documents, illustrates the threat. William was a student in Tennessee’s Clarksville-Montgomery County School system who struggled to learn to read. (He would eventually be diagnosed with dyslexia.) As is required under the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, William was given an individualized educational plan by the school system, designed to provide a “free appropriate public education” that takes a student’s disabilities into account. As William progressed through school, his educational plan was adjusted, allowing him additional time plus permission to use technology to complete his assignments. He graduated in 2024 with a 3.4 GPA and an inability to read. He could not even spell his own name.
To complete written assignments, as described in the court proceedings, “William would first dictate his topic into a document using speech-to-text software”:
He then would paste the written words into an AI software like ChatGPT. Next, the AI software would generate a paper on that topic, which William would paste back into his own document. Finally, William would run that paper through another software program like Grammarly, so that it reflected an appropriate writing style.
This process is recognizably a practical version of the Chinese Room for translating between speaking and writing. That is how a kid can get through high school with a B+ average and near-total illiteracy.
A local court found that the school system had violated the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act, and ordered it to provide William with hundreds of hours of compensatory tutoring. The county appealed, maintaining that since William could follow instructions to produce the requested output, he’d been given an acceptable substitute for knowing how to read and write. On February 3, an appellate judge handed down a decision affirming the original judgement: William’s schools failed him by concentrating on whether he had completed his assignments, rather than whether he’d learned from them.
Searle took it as axiomatic that the occupant of the Chinese Room could neither read nor write Chinese; following instructions did not substitute for comprehension. The appellate-court judge similarly ruled that William A. had not learned to read or write English: Cutting and pasting from ChatGPT did not substitute for literacy. And what I and many of my colleagues worry is that we are allowing our students to build custom Chinese Rooms for themselves, one assignment at a time.

The day after Tomorrow™
Let’s look at the world of 2040 - Hey y’all, if you want to help out and hum the Twilight Zone theme, that’d be great, kthanx.
Let’s look at Eric. Eric is a perfectly normal woman. She’s got $10,000 in bitcoin which would only cost $11,000 to convert to $USD which is now electronic only.
Last week she was told she had to work 20 hours overtime at her 60 hour a week job, or the access to AmazonCoin would be revoked. Her account balance of AZ4,200 is needed to pay her Amazon Health and Amazon home subscriptions of AZ3,200.
She is of course free to spend or save the other AZ1,000 on whatever she likes frem the Amazon store. The 5% discount she gets goes towards her AZ1,500 per month grocery and food costs.
Her self driving Tesla isn’t available because three months ago some script Kiddies in Poughkepsie used TELNET to hack into it and drive it into the Pacific because Tesla HQ didn’t change the admin password.
But Eric did get a cool 30% off voucher for NeuroLink Earwürm X.
Pure audio beamed directly to your brain: No distortion, no hearing damage and if you pay the premium you can turn people’s voices off or stream audio from your phone and make calls!
Unfortunately three days ago that service was shut down and now Eric is deaf in one ear and needs cranial surgery to remove the chip which is slowly leaking into her skull bones - And just after she paid for a year of premium!
So that overtime is sounding good right now!
She calls a Waymüber, gets in, gives it directions, confirms them, declines to tip and is driven around in a circle for 4 hours, which is then automatically charged to her account after she eventually gets the ChatGPT powered support agent to stop the car.
She’s left in the middle of an abandoned neighbourhood 60 miles away from work, who just fired her for being more than 10 minutes late.
A friendly pair of criminal offer to murder her for AZ2,000 so her next of kin can claim on her life insurance, but she doesn’t have the money. They talk a bit, and she tries to negotiate the price down but sadly they can’t budge: It’s the economy.

Wearing a baseball cap and thick, black-rimmed glasses, Cameron Chell is part defense contractor, part tech executive. His company, Draganfly, used to mainly work with emergency services in North America, selling drones and the accompanying software that could deliver medical equipment, or film traffic accidents from above. But since last February, the Canadian has pivoted his business to cater to a market more than 8,000 miles away: Ukraine.
Now, there are 40 Draganfly drones in Ukraine, repurposed for search-and-rescue missions in bombed-out buildings, landmine detection, and other military tasks that Chell declines to detail. The company has demonstrated its tech to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Ministry of Defence, as well as President Volodomyr Zelenskyy’s fundraising initiative, United24. “There isn't a branch of the government we haven’t worked with or interacted with in some way.” Sometimes he gets texts from Ukrainian contacts, saying a friend of a friend needs a drone for their unit, can he help? Draganfly obliges, of course, for a discounted fee.
Since Russia invaded, military aid has been flowing into Ukraine. The US has committed $39 billion since the war started, the UK $37.3 billion, and the EU $12 billion. Chell and his company are part of a scramble of international tech companies rushing into the country to try and benefit. Business has been so good, he’s set up a field office in Ukraine with four full-time employees. But Draganfly is operating in Ukraine not just to support the cause or to collect the cash. It’s also come for the data.
The war in Ukraine presents an unprecedented opportunity for military tech companies. The scale of the fighting and the sheer number of weapons systems and high-tech sensors deployed have created a vast amount of data about how battles are fought and how people and machines behave under fire. For businesses that want to build the next generation of weapons, or train systems that will be useful in future conflicts, that is a resource of incalculable value.
“Everybody could have the same AI engine. The only differentiator now is how good are the data inputs that you have,” says Chell. “Making sure that it's your sensors collecting that data, and feeding it into your software, is absolutely important. It’s more important than ever to be present.”
There is an old, much derided, cliché that data is the “new oil”—not only because of its cash value, but because of how it will fuel so much of the future economy. Just as large language models, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, are trained on hundreds of billions of words, AI products in the defense world also have to be fed vast amounts of data. A company selling drones that can autonomously identify tanks, for example, needs to train its software on huge numbers of images: tanks covered in camouflage, tanks obscured by bushes, tanks deep in mud. It needs to be able to recognize the difference between a military tank and a civilian tractor, as well as what type of tank it’s looking at, so it knows friend from foe. For a company like Draganfly, which is selling drones with landmine-detection software, staff need to train their AI on thousands of images, so their system can tell the difference between a rock formation and a modern mine.
“Ukraine is the only place in the world where you can get that data at the moment,” says Ingvild Bode, associate professor at the Center for War Studies at the University of Southern Denmark.
Draganfly is far from the only company to have noticed the potential of Ukraine to gather data. Chell is among a wave of international AI executives traveling to and from the conflict to test and train their products. German AI company Helsing says it has staff regularly traveling to the country. Data analytics company Palantir has opened an office in Kyiv and is offering its services pro bono. “You have to ask yourself, why are they doing that?” says Bode. “There are a number of reasons, and the value of the data will absolutely be one of them.”
Some international companies working in the conflict zone are using their experiences in Ukraine to refine the products they are selling back home. Seattle-based BRINC has designed “Lemur” drones, which are designed to be able to break through windows to access buildings. In the US, they’ve been marketed to police to use in active shooter scenarios. But in Ukraine, they’re being used to help search for survivors after missile attacks, according to the company’s founder, Blake Resnick. The company recently released its Lemur 2 model, which “does utilize some feedback that we've gotten from Ukraine,” he says. The new model can make floor plans of a building as it flies around and can maintain its position in the air, even when the pilot takes their hands off the controller. These ideas might have grown out of BRINC’s work in Ukraine, but according to the company’s YouTube advert, they’re now being marketed to police forces back in the US.
The “data is the new oil” cliché might illustrate data’s value. But it also speaks to the way data can be extracted from a country without benefiting the people who live there. In the first year after the invasion, Ukraine was so welcoming to American tech companies that even startups whose pitches had been rejected at home by the Pentagon got the green light to be trialed by Ukrainian soldiers on the front lines. But that warm welcome is starting to chill, as Ukrainian government officials recognize how valuable their battlefield data would be if it remained in Ukrainian hands.
“You can’t even imagine how many foreign companies are already using Ukraine as a testing ground for their products: AI companies like Clearview, Palantir; anti-jamming systems; everything that has a software component is in Ukraine right now,” says Alex Bornyakov, Ukraine's deputy minister for digital transformation.
Ukraine is very aware of the value of its data, Bornyakov says, cautioning that companies shouldn’t expect to arrive in the country and get access to data for nothing. “This experience we’re in right now—how to manage troops, how to manage them smarter and automatically—nobody has that,” he says. “This data certainly is not for sale. It’s only available if you offer some sort of mutually beneficial cooperation.”
Instead, Ukraine wants to use the data that’s being gathered for its own defense sector. “After the war has finished, Ukraine companies will go to the market and offer solutions that probably nobody else has,” Bornyakov says.
Over the past few months, Ukraine has been talking up its ambitions to leverage its battlefield innovations to build a military-tech industry of its own.
“We want to build a very strong defense tech industry,” says Nataliia Kushnerska, project lead for Brave1, a Ukrainian state platform designed to make it easier for defense-tech companies to pitch their products to the military. The country still wants to partner and cooperate with international companies, she says, but there is a growing emphasis on homegrown solutions.
Building a domestic industry would help protect the country from future Russian aggression, Kushnerska says. And Ukrainians have a better understanding of the dynamics of the battlefield than their international counterparts. “Technologies that cost a huge amount of money, made in [overseas] laboratories, are coming to the front line, and they're not working,” she says.
Brave1—which was exclusively open to Ukrainian companies for its first two months of existence—is not the country’s only attempt to build a homegrown industry. Kushnerska describes secret tech conferences, attended by Ukrainian tech executives and Ministry of Defense officials, where discussions can take place about what the militaries need and how companies can help. In May, Ukraine’s parliament voted through a series of tax breaks for drone makers, in an attempt to encourage the industry. Those government efforts, combined with the huge demand for drones and the motivation to win the war, is creating entire new industries, says Bornyakov. He claims the country now has more than 300 companies making drones.
One of those 300 companies is AeroDrone, which started out as a crop-spraying system based in Germany. By the time of the full-scale invasion, the company’s Ukrainian founder, Yuri Pederi, had already moved back to his home country. But the war inspired him to pivot the business. Now the drones, which can carry heavy loads of up to 300 kilograms, are being used by the Ukrainian military.
“We don’t know what the military are carrying,” says Dmytro Shymkiv, a partner at the company, who used to be deputy chief of staff for Petro Poroshenko, the Ukrainian president who preceded Zelenskyy. He might plead ignorance to what AeroDrone drones are transporting, but the company is collecting vast amounts of data—up to 3,000 parameters—on each flight. “We are very much aware of what's going on with every piece of equipment on board,” he says, adding that information about flying while being jammed, or in different weather conditions, can be repurposed in other industries or even other conflicts.
Aerodrone offers a glimpse of the future companies Bornyakov is describing. Armed with that data, the company sees a wide range of options for its future once the war is over, both military and civilian. If you can fly in a war zone, Shymkiv says, you can fly anywhere.

How Generative AI is Revolutionizing Financial Modeling in Investment Banking
Investment banking has always been about precision, speed, and strategic decision-making. At the heart of this industry lies financial modeling—the art and science of translating raw data into insights that can make or break multi-million-dollar deals. But as the complexity of markets grows, so does the need for better, faster tools.
Enter Generative AI—the latest technological leap that’s turning heads across global investment firms. While artificial intelligence has already made waves in areas like algorithmic trading and credit risk assessment, Generative AI is now poised to transform how investment bankers create and interpret financial models.
And if you're an aspiring professional aiming to thrive in this rapidly evolving industry, enrolling in a top-tier investment banking course in Dubai can give you the competitive edge to master both traditional finance and the AI-powered future.
What is Generative AI and Why Does It Matter?
Generative AI refers to advanced machine learning models (like ChatGPT, Claude, or custom LLMs) that can generate content, simulate scenarios, and interpret complex data inputs. In finance, these models are being trained to produce accurate forecasts, dynamic financial models, risk assessments, and even write investment memos.
Imagine typing:“Build a 5-year DCF model for a SaaS company with 20% YoY growth and 70% gross margin.”And having an AI instantly generate the model with charts, analysis, and commentary.
That’s not the future—it’s happening now.
The Traditional Challenges in Financial Modeling
Before we dive into how generative AI solves problems, let's briefly understand what makes financial modeling so labor-intensive:
Time-consuming: Creating models from scratch takes hours or days
Error-prone: Manual data entry and formula errors can lead to costly mistakes
Complexity: Modeling for M&A, IPOs, or LBOs often requires deep sector expertise and constant revisions
Limited scenario flexibility: Testing multiple variables and assumptions manually can be overwhelming
Generative AI is eliminating these barriers by offering speed, accuracy, and adaptability.
Applications of Generative AI in Financial Modeling
1. Automated Model Generation
With tools like OpenAI’s Codex and Microsoft Excel integrations, generative AI can now auto-generate financial models based on minimal prompts. Whether it's a Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), Comparable Company Analysis (CCA), or Leveraged Buyout (LBO) model, AI can build templates faster than any junior analyst.
Real-World Use Case:Firms like Morgan Stanley are building internal AI copilots to assist analysts with model building and interpretation—reducing workload and minimizing human error.
2. Scenario Simulation & Forecasting
One of the biggest advantages of generative AI is its ability to simulate multiple “what-if” scenarios:
What if interest rates rise 2%?
What if EBITDA margins shrink by 5%?
What if the client merges with a competitor?
Generative AI can model out these scenarios instantly, providing bankers with deeper insights for client presentations and investment strategies.
3. Data Cleaning and Integration
Before any model can be built, raw data must be cleaned, organized, and contextualized. Generative AI can now help:
Clean historical financial statements
Match data from multiple sources
Identify outliers or inconsistencies
This automates the grunt work and lets analysts focus on strategy and interpretation.
4. Narrative Generation and Executive Summaries
Investment banking isn't just about numbers—it's about storytelling. After building a model, bankers often need to prepare detailed decks and executive summaries for clients or boardrooms.
Generative AI tools can now automatically generate summaries, investment memos, and even pitchbook outlines based on the model outputs.
Imagine having AI write:“This model suggests a 14% IRR under the base case scenario, with upside potential reaching 20% under favorable market conditions.”
It’s not science fiction—it’s productivity reimagined.
The Human + AI Partnership
While Generative AI can do a lot, it’s not replacing investment bankers anytime soon. The human judgment, domain expertise, and strategic thinking required in investment banking are still irreplaceable. But AI is becoming the ultimate assistant—cutting time, increasing accuracy, and amplifying human potential.
To thrive in this new era, professionals need to combine financial modeling skills with a working knowledge of AI. And that’s where an investment banking course in Dubai becomes invaluable.
Why Dubai is Emerging as a Fintech and Investment Hub
Dubai is no longer just a business gateway between East and West—it’s quickly becoming a global center for finance and technology. With strategic initiatives like the DIFC Innovation Hub and partnerships with AI startups, the city is positioning itself as a leader in AI-powered finance.
By choosing an investment banking course in Dubai, students can:
Learn traditional and modern modeling techniques side by side
Get hands-on experience with AI tools used by top firms
Network with professionals at the forefront of fintech innovation
Participate in real-world case studies involving AI in finance
One such program is offered by the Boston Institute of Analytics, which blends core financial skills with modern tools like Python, Tableau, and AI-based modeling platforms.
What You’ll Learn in an AI-Integrated Investment Banking Course
A future-ready investment banking course in Dubai will cover:
Financial Statement Analysis
Valuation Techniques (DCF, CCA, Precedent Transactions)
M&A and IPO Modeling
AI Tools for Forecasting and Scenario Simulation
Generative AI Applications in Finance
Pitchbook and Deal Deck Preparation
Real-life case studies and simulations
By the end of the course, students don’t just know Excel—they’re ready to work with AI-powered platforms and solve complex problems in real-time.
Challenges and Ethical Considerations
Generative AI isn’t without its pitfalls:
Overreliance on automation can lead to missed context
Data bias or poor training sets can skew predictions

Review: Generative AI Workshop 16.0 with Vaibhav Sisinty
Saturday, February 22⋅10:00am – 12:30pm
I found out about this workshop from watching this YouTube video
Microsoft SHOCKED The World with First AI Quantum Chip That Unlocks Limitless Power
by
AI Revolution
youtube
They had a link to this webinar for the first 1000 viewers, and I had seen it on another of their videos but this was several days later. Happily, on this video which had only been out for 2 hours when I found it, I was able to get in.
I rate the webinar 5 of 5 stars! Vi is funny and gives an interesting presentation full of good info, and he gave us a link to a document including all of the prompts and which AI websites he demonstrated. Which was great, because I was taking notes all through his presentation and missed a lot of the websites. Yeah, I have ADHD so I struggle with hearing things correctly, and I couldn't read most of the text because I am 66 and have old eyes. The document really helped me, so I give this presentation 5 of 5 for disability accessibility.
Vi gave us ample time to comment and asked for feedback. This made me feel like he cares whether we're paying attention, and at the end he did answer all the questions that were important to me.
He does run a 2 day seminar on how to use many AIs with hands on practice. Unfortunately, the price, even discounted, was way beyond my means as a low-income person. However, if I had the money I would consider the course well worth it. He presents the information in an easy to understand manner, even for those with no experience with AI. I think most people would get a lot out of the 2-day course, judging how much I learned in this 3-hour presentation.
So, what did I learn? Here's a list:
How to write a prompt for a launch email
Summarize anything on the web and chat with it, even a YouTube video
Make AI read things from images for free, like complicated graphs on how your latest YT vid or social media post did
Convert YT vid to blog, LinkedIN or reel
Make AI write LInkedIn posts like you [You can add your thoughts or change anything before posting, and you should]
Turn text into an image or even a video
Build Website using AI [I really need this one!]
Analyze a spreadsheet and alter it to add a new column from data in other columns [I am currently working on one I need this for!]
Get ChatGPT to analyze data
Make a fun song
Vi revealed the cool music at the start before the presentation was AI generated, and he made a song using sono.ai to demonstrate it
Using an AI clone
Wow! I learned a lot, and I've been playing with AI and using it for a few tasks, like ramping up my story descriptions. Marketing is not my forte. I'm careful not to use AI for actual writing or book covers I plan to publish on Amazon.com because there's this little box you have to check that 'no AI was used to produce any part of this book' and I want to be able to truthfully answer it. Draft2Digital and Ingram Spark also legally obligate you in this manner. Personally, I think fiction writers have nothing to worry about regarding AI. I was worried, so I tried to get usable fiction out of many AIs. AIs don't think like us, and that really comes out when you try to get them to write a realistic scene. Don't believe the hype. We still need to write our own books.
He talked about how he feels 4 of 5 jobs will be eliminated within 2 or 3 years because of AI, and I think he's right.
Then he described his 2 day workshop in detail. His team tried running 6 week courses and very few people finished them. But when they went to the 2 day, 16 hour format, most people finished and enjoyed it. That makes sense to me because my daughter and I are learning Spanish, and I am brushing up on my German. When we go to Mexico, we plan to force our introverted selves out on the street to talk to Mexicans. I know total immersion works in learning a foreign language, and I suspect it works for AI, too.
Vi also listed some other courses and they all interested me. So, if you want to check it out, see growthschool.com
I learned a lot that I'll be using for projects I'm doing today!

ChatGPT’s Response to ‘Guilt Burnout and Productivity’
This journal entry touches on several important themes: guilt, burnout, productivity, self-reflection, emotional regulation, spirituality, and hope. Below is a breakdown of the key elements, along with an analysis to help you gain insight into your emotional experience and patterns.
1. Guilt and Apologizing to Your Boyfriend
Emotional Analysis:You feel a need to apologize, driven by guilt for not being as present in your relationship as you would like. This guilt seems linked to not meeting your own expectations, rather than your boyfriend explicitly expressing dissatisfaction. It’s important to notice that while your intention to apologize reflects accountability, you also acknowledged that you’ve been managing emotional stress and burnout.
CBT Insight:
Guilt can often stem from unrealistic expectations of how we “should” show up, especially during emotionally challenging times. Your mental energy was spread thin between relationship issues, personal struggles, and professional burnout. Apologizing is thoughtful, but it might also help to ask: “Am I being too hard on myself?” You seem to hold yourself to high standards of performance, even during periods when grace and rest are necessary.
A reframe could be: “Though I was less present this week, it’s okay because I was navigating a lot. I can choose to be more mindful moving forward without punishing myself.”
2. Productivity vs. Burnout – Struggling to Acknowledge Small Wins
Emotional Analysis:Despite being productive (working out, applying for jobs, cooking, cleaning, etc.), you struggle with feeling that your efforts weren’t “enough” or that you didn’t use your time wisely. This internal conflict suggests cognitive distortions, such as:
All-or-nothing thinking: Either you used your time perfectly, or you didn’t use it well at all.
Discounting the positive: Even though you accomplished multiple tasks, you still downplay those wins.
CBT Insight:
Small wins matter—and they contribute to long-term progress. It might be helpful to practice intentionally celebrating your small accomplishments. For instance, instead of saying, “I could’ve done more,” try: “Even though I felt burnt out, I took important steps toward my well-being and goals today.”
Reframing your narrative: The fact that you worked out, cooked, and applied for jobs shows that you diduse your time wisely, even if not perfectly aligned with your original plan. Productivity doesn’t always mean doing everything on your to-do list; it can also mean making space for self-care and managing burnout.
3. Spirituality and Patience – Seeking Direction in Uncertainty
Emotional Analysis:You find meaning in Psalm 40:1, which encourages patience in waiting for divine guidance. You noticed the significance of coming across the job posting, but you’re unsure if it’s the sign you prayed for, especially since the school appears closed. This suggests you are navigating both hope and uncertainty—common emotions during periods of transition.
CBT Insight:
Tolerating ambiguity: It’s okay not to have all the answers right now. Waiting patiently can look like continuing to take small steps toward your goals (such as applying for jobs) while trusting that clarity will come with time.
Self-Compassion: Recognize that it’s okay to change course if things don't unfold the way you imagined (e.g., the school being closed). Rather than viewing it as a setback, consider it part of the process—an opportunity for redirection and growth.
4. Decision-Making and Moving Toward Your Goals
Emotional Analysis:You are weighing whether a job change is the right move for you, focusing on burnout and financial concerns. You show thoughtful reflection, recognizing that moving out was essential for your mental health despite the financial burden. This reveals a deeper understanding of your priorities: mental well-being over money. However, there’s still some regret over whether you could have handled things differently.
CBT Insight:
Regret and acceptance: It’s natural to second-guess decisions, especially when juggling financial stress. A helpful reframe might be: “At the time, I made the best decision for my mental health, which is a valuable investment in myself.”
Aligning with values: You're making decisions not only for better benefits but also to support long-term educational goals and financial well-being. This shows that you are thinking holistically about your future, which is a sign of emotional growth and resilience.
5. Themes of Grace, Patience, and Hope
Throughout the entry, you balance self-criticism with moments of grace (e.g., acknowledging you needed the week off and praying for guidance). However, you oscillate between recognizing your need for rest and feeling guilty for not doing more. This suggests a push-pull between productivity and self-compassion, which is common when trying to manage burnout.
CBT Insight:
One way to integrate these competing feelings is to normalize rest as a form of productivity. Taking breaks and seeking clarity are just as important as getting tasks done. Learning to sit with discomfort—like uncertainty about the future or feeling guilty for resting—can help you develop emotional flexibility over time.
6. Practical Takeaways:
Apologizing with self-compassion:Instead of apologizing purely out of guilt, consider saying, “I’ve been feeling a bit off this week, and I appreciate your patience. I want to be more present moving forward.” This acknowledges your feelings without self-blame.
Celebrate small wins:Try journaling or listing at least three small wins daily. Even seemingly minor achievements (like working out or cooking) are steps in the right direction.
Reframing guilt around burnout:You mentioned that avoiding work was necessary for your mental health. Reframe the guilt by reminding yourself: “I needed this break to come back refreshed, and that’s okay.”
Patience with your process:Spirituality is offering you a sense of hope. Continue taking small, meaningful steps while practicing patience with yourself and your journey. It's okay not to have all the answers immediately.
Final Thoughts:
This journal entry is a beautiful reflection of the complexities of your emotional world—balancing burnout, productivity, relationships, spirituality, and self-compassion. It’s clear that you are working through a lot, yet you are showing insight, resilience, and hope throughout it all. You don’t need to have everything figured out right now—progress happens step by step, even if it feels slow or messy. Trust that you are on the right path, and give yourself permission to rest along the way.

If you come to edtech through schooling and other venues of compulsory face-to-face learning, you understand quite well that just because a student’s body is at their desk that doesn’t mean their spirit or mind is present there as well.
If you come to edtech through YouTube, it is easy to convince yourself that the people who are watching your videos are also learning from your videos, that they are also enjoying learning from your videos, that they would also enjoy learning from more of your videos. Certainly, all of that is true for some percentage of Karpathy’s two million views, but far less than 100%. I would anchor our predictions at roughly 5%.
Karpathy is now jumping into the top of a flume ride full of people who found early success explaining stuff on YouTube and later struggled to fulfill their greater ambitions for education, people like:
Sebastian Thrun, who created a very popular YouTube playlist on artificial intelligence, and later turned that playlist into Udacity, and later fell far short of his ambitions in K-16 schooling, and later pivoted to friendlier terrain in corporate education, and later sold his company altogether for what is widely assumed to be a steep discount.
Andrew Ng, who put videos of his Stanford lectures online, and later created Coursera with Daphne Koeller to surround those videos with a learning management system, and later saw course completion rates hover around 10%, and later saw the stock price of his company decline 85% from its initial public offering.
Sal Khan, a popular YouTuber whose videos were first watched by family members and then by millions, who later scaled his ideas about learning into Khan Academy, a platform that has demonstrated significant learning gains in studies where researchers first throw out 95% of the students in the study.
A large reason why these edtech startups do not work well for the majority of students is that the majority of students are not particularly interested in reading academic text or watching sequences of explanatory videos. If they were, we would have solved mass education many centuries ago with the printing press. Thomas Edison would have been correct in 1922 that “the motion picture is destined to revolutionize our educational system and that in a few years it will supplant largely, if not entirely, the use of textbooks.”
Whether generative media will over- or underperform static media here remains to be studied, but let’s just say I have my suspicions.
....
But the edtech graveyard is stacked several caskets deep with resources created by autodidacts—people who are highly self-motivated and highly self-directed, people who are just fine learning by themselves, thank you—for autodidacts. We might estimate the population of autodidacts at about (well look at that) 5% of the overall population.
If Karpathy seeks to broaden the appeal and efficacy of his platform beyond 5% of learners, he’ll need to add community. He’ll need students to understand that their work has an audience, that they can learn from other people and other people can learn from them.

Generative AI Meets Wall Street: The New Era of Investment Banking
In an industry known for high-stakes decisions, lightning-fast transactions, and a relentless demand for accuracy, investment banking is entering a new era—driven by Generative AI. This advanced form of artificial intelligence, capable of creating content, code, and even financial models, is set to revolutionize how deals are struck, how valuations are calculated, and how bankers spend their workdays.
If you're an aspiring analyst, associate, or just someone exploring an investment banking course in Mumbai, understanding this technological shift could give you a serious competitive edge.
Generative AI: Not Just a Buzzword
Generative AI refers to a class of algorithms that can generate new content—text, images, code, and yes, even financial reports—based on the data they're trained on. Tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Claude are just the beginning. In investment banking, this means automating tasks that previously took hours or even days.
Think of:
Automated pitchbook creation
Faster company and market analysis
Financial model building using historical data
AI-generated deal scenarios and exit strategies
The time saved here isn’t just about convenience—it translates to millions in reduced costs and more efficient decision-making.
Deal-Making Reimagined
M&A (mergers and acquisitions) is at the heart of investment banking. Traditionally, the deal-making process is labor-intensive: it requires market research, financial forecasting, stakeholder alignment, negotiation tactics, and the creation of compelling presentations.
Now, imagine using generative AI to:
Draft initial deal memos using past data and real-time news
Identify synergies and risks through pattern recognition
Generate customized emails, pitch decks, and executive summaries
Perform sentiment analysis on news or social media to predict investor reaction
Investment bankers still make the big decisions—but AI becomes the assistant who never sleeps, never tires, and keeps learning.
Financial Modeling: From Excel to AI-Powered Engines
Every aspiring banker knows that Excel modeling is practically a rite of passage. Valuation models like DCF (Discounted Cash Flow), LBO (Leveraged Buyout), and comparable company analysis are taught in every serious investment banking course in Mumbai, Delhi, or New York.
But what happens when AI can:
Auto-populate spreadsheets based on SEC filings or annual reports?
Flag inconsistencies or unrealistic projections?
Suggest alternative assumptions for sensitivity analysis?
Firms like JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley are already testing AI tools that streamline modeling workflows. While Excel won’t disappear anytime soon, the way we use it is being fundamentally reshaped. The focus is shifting from data entry to data interpretation.
Real-World Example: JPMorgan's IndexGPT
JPMorgan Chase recently trademarked “IndexGPT,” an AI tool reportedly capable of selecting securities and building investment portfolios for clients. While not explicitly a financial modeling tool, it reflects a broader strategy: banks are betting on AI not only to assist humans but to eventually act as co-strategists.
In the deal-making space, expect similar innovations where AI isn't just giving suggestions—it could predict merger outcomes, model accretion/dilution impacts, or even simulate macroeconomic stress tests.
What It Means for Investment Bankers
The rise of generative AI doesn’t mean that investment bankers will be replaced. Instead, their roles will evolve. The focus will shift toward:
Strategic thinking
Relationship building
Decision-making based on AI-generated insights
However, there’s a catch. To remain relevant, bankers—especially entry-level analysts and associates—must upskill quickly. That means combining traditional finance knowledge with tech fluency, including data interpretation, AI tools, and a new layer of critical thinking.
For Students: Why Now Is the Best Time to Upskill
If you're a finance or commerce graduate considering an investment banking course in Mumbai, you’re in luck. The industry is transforming, and being AI-aware can make you stand out from the crowd.
A quality course today should not only teach:
Financial modeling
Valuation techniques
M&A strategy
IPO process
…but also introduce AI-powered tools like:
Microsoft Power BI
Python for financial analysis
Generative AI assistants for document automation
At the Boston Institute of Analytics, for example, students get exposure to both traditional investment banking and the emerging intersection of finance and AI. With expert-led sessions, real-world case studies, and hands-on training, learners are equipped for a future-ready career in finance.
Challenges & Concerns: Not All That Glitters Is Gold
While generative AI holds massive potential, it also brings risks:
Data Privacy: Feeding sensitive financial data into AI tools poses security threats.
Bias in AI: If the training data is flawed, the AI can make inaccurate or unethical decisions.
Over-reliance: AI may offer a false sense of confidence, especially to junior bankers not trained to question the output.
Regulators are already stepping in. The SEC and RBI are exploring frameworks for AI governance in financial services. This means future investment bankers will need to navigate both financial modeling and regulatory compliance.
The Future: Human-AI Collaboration
Robots won’t run the investment bank of the future, but it will look very different from today. A typical deal team might include:
A VP of Strategy
An AI analyst
A Financial Modeler
And a Machine Learning Risk Assessor
This collaboration will lead to faster, more data-driven, and (hopefully) more ethical financial decisions.
Final Thoughts
The fusion of generative AI and investment banking is no longer a sci-fi fantasy—it's today’s reality. Whether you’re a student, a career switcher, or already in finance, now is the time to equip yourself for this tech-powered future.
And if you're looking for the perfect place to begin, consider enrolling in an investment banking course in Mumbai that goes beyond textbooks and spreadsheets. Look for programs that prepare you not only to analyze balance sheets but also to understand how AI will impact the next billion-dollar deal.

ProfitSGE focuses on 9 distinct “triggers” that AI chatbots seek before recommending a site, offer, or link.
And it receives a perfect 10/10 rating on all of them, implying…
AI simply can’t help but recommend YOUR link repeatedly!
#1 ProfitSGE crafts tailored SGE content specifically for ChatGPT, Gemini, and other platforms, adhering to specific trigger words or phrases.
#2 “Digital PR” ensures your product or affiliate offer is showcased by review and comparison websites utilized by SGE engines to produce results and provide recommendations.
#3 “Active Socials” fools AIs into believing your site is actively discussed and endorsed by genuine users on platforms such as Reddit.
#4 “Link profiles” represents our exclusive ranking algorithm designed to showcase you in the “recommended links” chatbot box.
#5 “SGE search phrase analysis” looks at what users are actually asking AIs about, then optimizes for those search phrases specifically
PLUS 4 more “secret formula” including things like “carousel rankings”, “article links” and even some more-traditional SEO tools.
