As someone actually in the community (as in plays the game, frequently goes to locals, Co-TOs, etc), it’s not that big of a deal. I think there should be more popular woman commentators and they do exist, but it’s mostly at a regional level (Chelly, Sp1nda, etc), but they got the most popular commentators who’ve been doing it for years, most of whom have commentated almost if not every single Genesis. There’s definitely an issue with underrepresentation but also who do you axe from the lineup? HMW? Scar and Toph? Vish, Stude, or Slime? People who are legacy commentators in and out of their regions? I promise you that if you go to your local you’ll see more women that you think, and a lot of them are staples in their communities, as both players and commentators. Genesis is the biggest event of the year, having the most popular and well known commentators isn’t the end of the world.

i feel like it is reasonable for me to have a little giggle at these people saying they dropped the ball this year when this is a chronic issue where they only seem to know one woman and bobby scar. it's just like when there's only one woman on every single nfl broadcast, it's ridiculous lol. i've seen women, including chelly, in these threads say that they've applied to commentate bigger events in years past but got discouraged pretty quickly because they all just kept getting rejected. if this many women on melee twitter are expressing gratitude that this issue is finally being addressed and don't have the same hangups you do, someone on anon on tumblr.com will not change my mind on anything

also "non-cis men" meaning "people who are not cis men," because zane said he was looking for anyone who was not a cis man and that's too long to type in a tumblr reply. trans men are also marginalized within the community, which is why it's important to clarify that we need more people who are not cis men, not just "not men." i also didn't even name magi or salt in that sentence, so i don't know how you'd think that applied to them in a transmisogynistic way

here's me thoughts, under a spoiler block just like i did for after i beat Snoot Game

story flows nicely from start to finish, though i feel like a tiiiiny bit could have been trimmed cus it did feel a bit too long for playing through

affinity system is cool, feel like i hadn't seen people dig into that one as much as they should've. i was unable to get the Rosa gender reveal sequence cus i didnt max out her stuffs BUT they still throw in moments prior that telegraph it very much so so that's still something!

gorgeous backgrounds, absolutely zero complaints about any of them. while the characters animations can be a tad bit stiff at times, i feel like i can still most of the time realistically imagine them within the scenes properly

i understand you had to have 3 L&L segments for it to make sense as a DnD sessions sort of thing but,, i didnt like the segments in general. i feel like you could have still explored Reed's character without dedicating far too much time to these

music for the rhythm game segments is definitely NOT my personal taste, so i cant rlly say much about the content that wouldn't be heavily biased. i feel like also the controls were a bit too complicated, especially on keyboard. perhaps it couldve been easier to play on a controller but like,, visually there's still way way way too much to keep track of so it gets overwhelming at times. also very very hard to focus on the scenes going on while trying to play the rhythm segments, and i feel like that hurts the final one with the montage

Naomi and Fang is a match made in Heaven, what else is to say? jumps the gun a wee bit but idk i kind of like that shit and i do that for me own characters at time. wishing those two the best in dino heaven

was not expecting Fang to be so selfish throughout the entire game, it's genuinely a bit jarring at times. the way it's patched up in the end feels a bit too rushed, but then again i said the game felt a bit too long so no idea what the solution would be

Swamp Babies i wish u got more screentime, but i digress. Curtis having no voice let alone dialogue was a bummer

i hope they keep patching it cus i did get softlocked multiple times and there were many times where backgrounds failed to load in for a bit during many scenes ;w;

fave characters from this iteration gotta be Stella, Sage and Reed. funnily enough, two of their iterations in Snoot Game are also a delight! sad to see Sage didnt make the latter cut aside from positive text messagez

the logo and poster design stuff paired with the picture day sequence were pretty cool!

not a fan of the twitter stuff in-game just cus i loathe the real life equivalent, sorry ;w;

all in all now that i've done a full single run for both games (i am not replaying either, this is too much of a time commitment for a narrative-heavy experience), i think i can say i give Snoot Game a 9/10 rating and Goodbye Volcano High a 6/10

pleasantly happy with both, despite any complaints or criticisms! looking forward to drawing more fanart of both series too, as well as having a blast hanging out in discords with folks from either communities. met some good people in a cruel world

What’s with all the Gay Imperials?

Hi everyone!

 So there’s this trend I’ve been noticing in some of the new “Canon” Star Wars stories we’ve gotten that I’ve been noodling around with in the back of my mind, and I figured that since it’s Pride Month, I’d try to vocalize it. As glad as I am that there are openly gay characters in Star Wars now (none of them from movies or TV of course, have to keep the mainstays of your franchise nice and clean), there is a somewhat unfortunate trend I’ve noticed, where the gay characters tend to be Imperial-aligned.

Below is a chart of all the characters confirmed to be non-straight as well as the stories where their same-sex attraction was referenced:

 Obviously, I haven’t read or played everything and there’s only so much Wookiepedia scouring you can do, so if I’ve missed out on anyone, please let me know. I’d love to get examples that prove me wrong. I’m sure there are probably one or two in the High Republic sub-franchise, but I’m so disinterested in that era, I wouldn’t know. Also, I’m only including characters whose same-sex attraction is explicitly referenced in the text/supported by authors’ comments. We can point out blatant homoeroticism and ship characters all day, but what I’m focusing on here is specifically the writers’ intentions. Cause… oh boy, what are their intentions?

So, diving into statistics, of the 12 characters I looked at, 8 of them are Imperial characters. Sinjir Rath Velus and Magna Tolvan are a little complicated as they later defected from the Empire, but even then, 50% Imperial is still not a figure I’m wholly comfortable with. I think that it goes without saying that having your gay characters be fascists (or at least indifferent to fascism) is not a great look. I’m not saying there absolutely shouldn’t be gay Imperials, but them being a majority is bad optics in my opinion. Furthermore, of these 12, I’d say only half of them have their sexuality impact their story. The rest are brief references that don’t really factor in. Which is fine, not every character needs to have a romance storyline, but it is part of this discussion. And to be clear, this just my analysis and opinions, it’s completely valid to disagree with me.

To start with non-Imperials with brief references, we have Sana Starros. She had a relationship with Dr. Aphra in college. That’s about it. And there’s also the (in)famous Amilyn Holdo. She’s one of many characters who makes this list by virtue of mentioning in passing that attraction to a single gender or species felt limiting on one occasion.

For more involved relationships, there’s Kaeden Larte, who was introduced in and has only directly appeared in Ahsoka’s eponymous novel as one of the former Jedi’s many semi-platonic female love interests. And Conder Kyl serves as the main love interest for major POV character Sinjir Rath Velus in the Aftermath trilogy and while their relationship was rocky, they ended up finding purpose in each other.

Despite the problems I have with the writing of the Aftermath trilogy, the alleged insertion of a “gay agenda” isn’t one of them. Rae Sloane mentions offhand that she never had time for relationships with men or women. At least she’s one of the more nuanced Imperials. Similarly, Varko Grey, from the Squadrons game, mentions that he has a husband in one of the many pre-flight npc conversations.

For characters with more focus on their sexuality, let’s start with Delian Mors, who easily could have been another “single throwaway line” character; it’s mentioned in her backstory that her wife died prior to Lords of the Sith. However, it’s also brought up a couple times that as the governor of Ryloth, she enjoys keeping green-skinned, Twi'lek women as servants, behavior that’s certainly imperialistic and fetishistic. After that we’ve got Chelli Loni Aphra and Magna Tolvan from the doctor’s eponymous comic series. Dr. Aphra was basically conceived as “evil Indiana Jones” and is an in-universe Darth Vader fangirl. As mentioned previously, she had a relationship with Sana Starros in the past and over the course of her own comic series she develops a homoerotic cat-and-mouse relationship with imperial Captain Magna Tolvan, who eventually joins the Rebel Alliance. Honestly, I’m fine with gay Imperials like these two, and both of them, specifically Aphra, are well-written. As is Sinjir Rath Velus, a former loyalty officer for the Empire, who later defected to the New Republic. There’s kind of “have your cake and eat it too” when it comes to Velus’s gayngst. Despite assurances that the GFFA isn’t intolerant towards non-heterosexual relationships, he still feels awkward telling a woman he isn’t interested because he’s gay and has trouble with public displays of affection with his boyfriend.

And now we have to talk about Tarkin. Tbh, this one bites. To have arguably one of the most evil and authoritarian characters in the franchise in a same-sex relationship… problematic is a good word for it. Granted, it’s never explicitly stated it’s Tarkin in the story, but context clues indicate that’s who he’s supposed to be. (I haven’t listened to the audiobook, but apparently the voice actor does a Peter Cushing impression for the character.) Although, having read Of MSE-6 and Men, I understand the story potential there; to have someone as stuffy, aristocratic, and high-ranking as Tarkin in a secret relationship with a low-ranking stormtrooper is both comedy and drama gold (the story, as it stands, is merely okay in my opinion). And because there are no female Imperials in the OT, that relationship would have to be gay. (It’s not unlike what you see in fanshipping for media with male-dominated casts, predominant M/M ships are inevitable.) As for TK-421, see above. I will say, it’s somewhat intentionally hilarious that gay icon Luke Skywalker walks around the Death Star impersonating a gay man. Or maybe that was the implication all along.

Overall, I’ll just say I’m not entirely enthused that not only is the cast of characters slanted towards Imperial, but also the Imperials tend to have their sexuality be a bigger part of their characterizations. And I think you could make an argument that there is some inherent harm in having so many villainous gay characters and I’d probably agree with you. But I believe there’s a bit more to it than that. And again, maybe I’m missing a lot of data and there are more heroic gays in stories I haven’t read. I’ll fully admit I’ve read more Imperial-centric stories in the past several years, mostly because I enjoy villains and find Imperial politicking and bickering to be amusing. That and the similarities between the Empire and the U.S. are getting harder to ignore every day.

When concerning some of the more well-written gay relationships or ones with the potential to be narratively rich, it does pose the question “Should certain story developments, regardless of their quality, be avoided because of the unfortunate implications?” The simple answer is “yes” but a more nuanced one is “it depends on the context” which is… not exactly helpful. Because context and presentation are important. Even with a couple of the characters whose sexuality is more prominent, the writers fell into some easy traps vis-a-vis cliche negative stereotypes. As mentioned earlier, Delian Mors’ fetish for Twi'lek women plays into stereotypes about lesbians being predatory. She’s also a drug addict as a result of her wife’s death, which I honestly can’t tell if that’s supposed to make her sympathetic or not. The demonization of drug users is another topic entirely. Even Sinjir’s story hit a speed bump when Jas, who knows he’s gay, assumes that his interest in Temmin Wexley may be sexual, which, even as a passing joke, comes uncomfortably close to associating gay men with pedophilia. It’s these kinds of (hopefully) unconscious biases that can even seep into characters who the writers are putting genuine effort into.

On a related note, we’ve gotten a few transgender characters in Star Wars over the past few years, and as far as I know, none of them are Imperials. This does lend some credence to my theory that writers aren’t intentionally being malicious by having gay Imperial characters in their stories. After all, if their intentions were to make gays look like fascists, why not throw trans people under the bus as well? Based on the available evidence, I believe that some of these writers simply believe (or want to believe) that we live in a post-sexuality society, where it’s okay to have gay villains without there inherently being negative connotations with that association; that there’s no assumed correlation between sexuality and morality. And while that would be nice to think, I’m not so sure that’s where we’re at now.

There is a similar discussion about the prevalence of nonwhite Imperial characters over the past several years. And again, I think that comes from a belief that we live in a post-race society, which is not a new idea, the concept of being “colorblind” in this way started gaining relevance in the 90s. It’s good that we’re having these discussions now, because they’re important. And I think one of the reasons why there’s been more diversity among the Empire’s ranks as of late it that their casts are entirely human as opposed to the multi-species Rebellion and New Republic. So there’s some logistical reasons why, but that shouldn’t be a sole reason, ya’know?

If I wanted to be very, very generous, I could argue that the inclusion of nonwhite, nonmale, nonstraight Imperials does work well as it demonstrates that there will always be people in various marginalized groups that will still want to join and try to benefit from oppressive power structures. There may even be a writer or two that intends that, consciously or not. Because even with a more diverse Imperial cast, the high-ranking officials are still predominantly straight (presumably), white men. But… I think that’s a bit too nuanced of a view for the current crop of Star Wars writers to collectively hold at large.

And you may call me a hypocrite for shipping Thranto and writing slash fanfics with Imperial characters… and that’s not entirely unfair. But, please understand that there’s a big difference between me writing free stories in my little apartment and the published works of a multi-billion dollar media giant.

So after going through all this, I’m going to have to say I’m not opposed to there being gay Imperials, but it would be nice to see some changes. Namely, writers should try to avoid negative stereotypes and write more non-Imperial gay characters, especially ones whose sexuality is more than just a passing reference. Writers should ask themselves “What is the context of this character’s sexuality and what kind of message does it convey?” And, as I said, given that we haven’t seen any transgender Imperials, I think the writers do have the degree of self-awareness to do better. And who knows? Maybe in earlier drafts of stories, there were more heroic gays and they got straight-washed during the editing process, so proportionally more gay Imperials make the final cut. That’s the line I’m taking, writing less gay Imperial characters isn’t as important as writing more gay non-Imperial characters. But at the same time, it shouldn’t just be about hitting some quota. Again, I would like to see a greater level of awareness and consideration of the implications of what they’re writing, which would fundamentally lead to stronger long-lasting change. If the writers truly are well-meaning, this would result in characters whose sexualities are better incorporated into the narrative and would hypothetically lead to more good guy gays because the underlying issues of the creative process have been addressed. I hope that’s not too big of an ask.

Sinjir/Conder and Aphra/Tolvan are great canon gay pairings that we’ve gotten and it would have been a shame to have never gotten them at all because of a complete ban on gay Imperial characters. But it would also be cool to continue to see more couples with that quality of writing, ideally more heroic ones, so I’m not going to put my foot down and say absolutely no gay Imperials. That shouldn’t be the focus, is my main takeaway. The problem isn’t that there are gay Imperials at all, it’s the naivety and unexamined bias (and likely homophobic editors) that led to there being a greater number of gay Imperials. And who knows, I believe starting sometime soon, Star Wars novels will be released under a new publishing house instead of Del Ray. Perhaps they’ll have more progressive editors. Fingers crossed.

Well... it all started back in 2011 when a friend in high-school introduced me to Tumblr. I went to make a personal account but I didn't know what to do with it. Shortly after I think (my memory is foggy it's been 11 years) I saw Lilaria start up Endy's askblog ? That or my high-school friend gave me the idea by talking about fandom askblogs since I wasn't sure what to do on tumblr being new, which could of later had me run into Lilaira with Endy. Not exactly sure which one. Since I had been playing MC when it was in indev/alpha on my brother's account before I knew about tumblr, and my love for the game could of also gave me the idea for a MC fandom askblog after learning about askblogs. At the same time Enderman JUST came out in snapshot (they had green eyes), but before that Slimes were my fave mob. So I decided to combine both a Slime and an Enderman to make Enderslime! So I ended up making Toby's (old) askblog where he was the focus (mostly), and just did it for fun! There wasn't really a story. I just replied to random asks and interacted with some askblogs (mostly Endermen). I ended up leaving around 2013-2014? Because of some mental and personal issues with a whole bunch of stuff. I came back in 2021 after another veteran askbloger from back in the day (Antidarkheart the owner of Chelly) contacted me on twitter telling me that a lot of the askblog people were coming back and if I wanted to do it again. I agreed and pulled my partner Sang (owner of @hexavexen ) into it. Also now adding my newer MC oc Vulcan (which was originally going to be a SMP character but decided against it) to the mix then just Toby on the blog. Now I run the two characters. Vulcan which is storyline based and has a lot planned out, and Toby which is kinda the same as before, and I just do whatever with him.

Ok so there’ve been a lot of ramaraju x bheem’s sister but I haven’t seen as many with the reverse order. So I present to you a bheem x ramaraju’s sister which is essentially badass cinnamon roll x badass cinnamon roll in my eyes so that’s what you can expect. This one has its fair share of angst too and some mentions of trauma and a panic attack so pls skip if either of those are triggering for you.

Y/N POV

“Ram anna should have been home by now. He’s never late,” I thought to myself, panicking, because what if the British found out what he was really trying to do? I was pacing back and forth when babai came into the room and put a hand on my shoulder. “Bangaram calm down, Ram will come home soon, he probably just has some extra work today.”

That was the rational conclusion to make, but after having lost most of my family, could you blame me for thinking the extreme. I lost my parents and thammudu all in one day just because of the stupid British people that saw it fit to rule over us and treat us like dogs in our own land. If I lose babai and anna, what else do I have in this world?

A few minutes later, I heard the door open and turned around, holding my breath and praying that the person who walked through was my anna. Just in case, I held a gun behind my sari pallu because if I’ve learned anything from having suffered so much loss, it’s that you can never be too safe. Then I saw my anna walk in and breathed a sigh of relief, putting down my gun, only to immediately lift it again when another man walked in. 

My heart stopped for just a second. I had never seen a man that was so handsome. I continued holding up the gun, but unconsciously started noticing parts of him that I’d never seen in regards to anyone else. His hair was unruly and his body was immensely muscular. Then he looked at me straight in the eye and whispered something into Ram anna’s ear. I had never seen such beautiful eyes before. They were the big doe eyes that could force you to do anything. Ram chuckled and said to me, “You can put the gun down bangaram, he’s a friend.” My eyes froze as I put down the gun and looked at anna. I simply stated, “you’re late.”

Bheem’s POV

Ram anna invited me to his house for the first time, and of course, I accepted. I told him I’d meet him after he finished work, and in that time, plotted with Lacchu on how to get closer to Jenny so we could get to Malli. I heard someone outside and immediately hid anything that had to do with my plans and opened the door. Ram stood there with a large smile and from there we both left for his house together. However, it was never a straight path with both of us (a/n this ff may not be gay but look RRR is okay?), so we both obviously decided to stop to eat street food and play games with kids in the neighborhood. 

Suddenly, Ram realized how long we’d spent outside and cursed and grabbed my hand (a/n read the previous a/n), and started running. We stopped in front of an apartment and I stared at anna waiting for an explanation. He looked terrified, and that was an underestimate. He just looked at me and said, “Remember I told you about my sister y/n? She would’ve served my head to you for dinner instead of the biriyani I promised you if we were even a minute later than right now.” Now that piqued my curiosity because anna always came off as someone who had no fears. I wanted to meet this person who clearly had something special about them if they were able to scare anna. Then, anna brought up his hands, which I noticed were slightly shaking, and opened the door. 

He took a deep breath and walked in and I waited a moment and followed only to freeze when a gun was pointed at me. I moved to ask anna what was going on and he laughed and told the person to put the gun down and that I could be trusted. Then he faced me and said, “this is my chelli, y/n.” That’s when I actually saw her. I guess I was a bit too caught up with the gun but the moment I moved my attention to her, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Her hair was tied back into a neat braid with a few loose strands let out at the front. She wore a simple navy blue saree that accented her lush brown skin tone and her hands were folded onto a gun that was clearly pointed at my chest. In a few words, she was beautiful. I realized this must be anna’s sister and thought about how confident she was when it came to protecting her family and smiled to myself. 

She stared at me for a few moments and finally put down the gun and smiled at me and then glared at anna and said, “you’re late.” I swear I’ve never seen such a scary face before and I made a mental note to myself to never get on her bad side. Anna was shaking and was only able to get out a few words that sounded something like “work…a lot…Bheem.” I smirked amused at the whole situation and then decided that I’d explain what happened to hopefully get us out of this awkward position. “It was nothing urgent y/n. Anna came to my house after work to pick me up and then we got caught up in a few fun activities along the way.” 

Anna stared at me horrified as y/n all but yelled at him and told him to be more responsible and when it finally ended, Anna quietly went to his room like a child while y/n stormed into the kitchen, my presence clearly forgotten, and I just stood there unsure of what to do. It was after all slightly my fault because y/n found out from me but I didn’t know it would have this big of a consequence and I realized, since I caused it I had to fix it. I figured I should go to y/n first and apologize because it was my first time meeting her and I didn’t want to form a bad impression. So I walked into the kitchen praying to the gods that I’d be able to fix everything.

Y/N POV

I stood in the kitchen for a few minutes, genuinely pissed at anna, because after everything him and I have been through, shouldn’t he know better than leaving me in the unknown like that? I wouldn’t have stopped him but I needed to know he was safe, and even today, his friend had to tell me where he was because he couldn’t do it himself. Suddenly flashbacks of amma and thammudu being shot, and then of nanna blowing himself up shot through my mind. I tried clearing it, but that’s when I got the worst picture of all in my mind. The nightmare of my anna dying presented itself into my head, and that’s when I couldn’t hold it in anymore. The tears started flowing, and once they did, I couldn’t get them to stop until I found it hard to breath. I gasped for air and that’s when I heard someone walk in.

Bheem’s POV

The sight when I first walked into the kitchen broke my heart. Y/n was curled into herself and crying on the floor. I kneeled next to her and tried to figure out what to do next. I didn’t really have any experience in this field except for with the other children in the Gond, who I usually hugged and let them talk it out until they felt like they were ready. I figured the same would work to some extent so I moved closer to her and wrapped my arms around her tightly. She melted into my arms and weeped and although it felt similar to the Gond children, there was something special about her being in my arms that I wanted to keep with me forever. 

When she had calmed down a bit, she looked up at me and said, “Ram anna is all I have, I can’t lose him too.” My heart broke and I took her back in my arms and hugged her even tighter. Anna never wanted to disclose to me exactly what his past was, but I already had some idea that what happened to his family was traumatic for him, and I figured the same was true for y/n. I didn’t press for details and just let her stay in my arms for as long as she wanted. I didn’t know how long she’d stayed in my arms, but eventually she pulled out and, with teary eyes, told me, “Nobody has ever been there for me like you just were other than Ram anna. I was wrong, I have you too now,” and I felt my heart leap with joy. I didn’t know what it was about her statement, but I told myself with conviction that I’d protect her against everything. 

Y/N’s POV

I meant what I said. I always depended on Ram anna, but when it was him I was disappointed with, I had nobody else. He had so many other things too along with his own trauma, so I couldn’t afford to give them more stress. There was babai but he was always busy in thinking about nanna’s mission that I usually didn’t feel comfortable telling him about my trauma which seems smaller. Around Bheem, however, I felt cared for just as much as I did with Ram anna and… maybe even more. Either way, I knew I’d cherish Bheem for the rest of my life. I looked into his eyes, and with a small smile that would be imprinted on my soul for the rest of my life, he took a loose strand of my hair and tucked it behind my hair. 

I realized we both had to still go see what anna was doing. He usually didn’t take it well when I yelled at him. So I got up and Bheem followed my actions as we walked to Ram anna’s room together. I was shocked at what I saw, Ram anna was passed out in a pile of books, but traces of tears were all over his face. I couldn’t move, but Bheem went to anna, ran his hands through his hair, and whispered quietly, “I’m sorry anna. You love her so much don’t you? I promise I’ll be there for you and her always.” My heart blossomed and at that very moment I realized I was in love...
