#Chemistry Conferences USA
Note
I feel like knowing alexia she will still get back to pre season as soon as she can right 🫤
Tumblr media
alexia saw this tweet about spain finishing fourth and the theory of four and she got right back into the gym after the post-match press conference. 🫡
but seriously, alexia will hopefully take the 10 days off but i have a feeling we will see her in the usa and wanting to get back right at it.
Tumblr media
football is a team sport and you can't put all the pressure on one player. it's the whole team working in tandem together and that chemistry, and it's just not there for this tournament.
Tumblr media
thankfully, alexia has an extremely wonderful support system on her side! she will come back even stronger! 💪
Tumblr media
durísima la verdad, pero bueno ya está. en el fútbol, pasan esas cosas, se gane o se pierda. no es el fin del mundo y hay que seguir! ellas van a ir a suiza a por todas. y pues, máximo respeto por estas jugadoras. 🫡

IWTV Figure Skating AU headcanons
Because I miss figure skating and IWTV is my current hyperfixation. Probably only fellow fs stans understand this, but whatever.
Louis de Pointe du Lac:
His most known program is definitely his The Swan. Choreo: Gubanova's The Swan. Costume: Hanyu's Notte Stellata. Strong skating skills as good as ice dancer, deep knee bent, flexible, so he can do layback ina bauer and difficult spins.
Tend to go to brighter music for short program (jazz, hip hop etc) while doing something heartfelt for free skating.
Pretty consistent as a skater. Keep getting high scores on Skating Skills and Presentation. Unfortunately he doesn't have big quads (only 4T to 4F, when he wants to risk it) and he's Black. so USFSA doesn't really support him and doesn't get that American over scoring. Even though he has saved USA's spots at Worlds etc many times with his consistency (just like Jason Brown)
Lestat de Lioncourt:
Typical European showman. Known for his character free skating programs. Reference: Javier Fernandez (second example). Pretty good skating skills, jump technique is decent. Actually pretty stable jumper, has all big quad jumps except 4A, but he can't focus sometimes so his axis is messed up.
Definitely always brings out the most chaotic programs for Exhibition and they always go viral and give you secondhand embarrassement.
Representing France ofc. Complete with French overscoring. at least 3 times European champion in a row. For drama, the president of French federation is still Didier and they have love/hate relationship. Running his mouth like Scott Moir at press conferences. Sometimes do backflips just to send fuck you to judges if he feels they're underscoring him (usually happen at Worlds, thanks to Russia and USA). He gotta continue that French tradition.
Armand:
For drama he is representing Russia. His coach is Marius. And Marius is basically Eteri, and he's his (current) number one girl.
Has all the quads and he'll backload the heck of them for score (that rule still exists here idc). Skating Skills aren't as good as Loustat but he has a huge TES and Russia fed backing. And almost always land his jumps.
Tend to use warhorses in his programs. Known for his long limbs and fast paced transition. Has been skating since novice and gets called the prodigy since the beginning. References: Yulia, Evgenia.
European champions are always between him and Lestat. They've been rivals since junior. But unfortunately since Marius is Eteri, sometimes he has to skip competitions for injury. He's way more relaxed during exhibition programs
Okay, now if they're a team:
De Pointe du Lac/de Lioncourt:
(Not to be biased but) chemistry on Virtue/Moir level. Definitely representing France, because USFSA is stupid and Lestat points a gun on Didier's head to take Louis. Coached by Zueva.
Combining Louis' elegance and Lestat's character by performing classic Hollywood pieces with storytelling. Debuting with this FD by Virtue/Moir. Ofc they go to the Olympics with this Moulin Rogue program as well, complete with the crotch kissing lift 😏
Definitely has a rumor they're secretly married going for them.
De Pointe du Lac/(insert Armand's last name here):
Unfortunately, no choice other than representing Russia. Coached by Tatiana Tarasova (but she likes Louis don't worry!).
Tend to use haunting classical music. Very synchronized, very classy. Reference: (a must watch!) Gordeeva/Grinkov's iconic Moonlight Sonata. Or Torville/Dean's Bolero.
Bonus: Claudia
Definitely best known for her teenage spirit and her Romeo & Juliet program.
Known for her big jumps, 3A, and musicality. That one girl who goes "I'll beat the men as well. Just watch" Reference: Kostornaia

Carpet Recycling UK: Collaboration to seek better solutions for waste
Tumblr media
Collaboration was the theme for this year’s Carpet Recycling UK annual conference. A packed agenda saw a wide range of initiatives and topics covered, highlighting that partnership working across the comparable flooring sectors such as resilient flooring and other industries to include construction, waste management and recycling sectors is vital to finding better environmental and economic solutions for carpet and textile flooring waste.
Speaking at the two-day event in July, Adnan Zeb-Khan – CRUK Scheme Manager, highlighted that although an important outlet, ‘energy from waste’ (which accounted for over 200k tonnes of carpet and textile flooring to be diverted from landfill in 2022), is not a sustainable long-term route and more reuse, recycling circular solutions need to be developed. Delegates then heard about potential research project to divert carpet and textile flooring waste and how these could be used in construction products and the cement industry. Carpet Recycling UK will be exploring these further with universities and industry to research alternative solutions.
Exciting collaborative work is already underway and Headlam presented findings on their pilot take-back scheme which is providing valuable insight into behaviours around recycling flooring materials. Innovate Recycling unveiled results on their achieving partial circular sustainability from recycling polypropylene from carpet into new polypropylene beads that can be spun into new yarn for carpet manufacture. Matoha also presented their evolving infrared material identification gun which is using AI to enable it to identify thousands of different carpet chemistries and IOBAC presented their unique magnetic carpet floor tiles fixing solutions which are saving thousands of pounds on damage to subfloors during building interior renovations.
Perhaps the most important subject covered by the conference was the urgent need for all stakeholders to come together to collaborate and develop an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme that is suitable for the sector. Conference heard from several speakers on existing or similar schemes operating in Europe and the USA. Jane Gardner of ERFMI (European Resilient Floorcovering Manufacturers’ Institute) reinforced the need to develop a circular economy for flooring products. “On the circular economy, now is the time to act – politically, legislatively and technologically. Sustainability is becoming mandatory in the European Union. Our strategy recognises the need for waste management companies, recyclers and raw material suppliers to collaborate to ensure a workable solution for all stakeholders.”
During the conference some key questions were asked of the delegates which were intended to generate debates, conversations and opinions on the key challenges they each face when it comes to sustainable practices within their organisations and if now is the right time for CRUK to rebrand itself and provide support to other flooring types experiencing similar challenges and issues.
The evening event saw the popular Carpet Recycling UK annual awards presented by Jonathan Middelkoop from Betap. CRUK thanked all those who entered this year and is proud to announce the 2024 winners as:
Circular Economy Initiative of the Year – Robbert Wapstra, Edel Carpets; Highly Commended: Betap
Reuse and Recycling Project of the Year – Richard Shea, Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd; Highly Commended: John Cotton Group & Designer Contracts
Most Sustainable Product of the Year – Kate Burnett, Milliken; Highly Commended: Condor Group
The conference presented an opportunity for Cathie Clarke, CRUK’s new Managing Director to meet and network with some of their 134-strong membership. She said: “Having just joined CRUK Ltd at the beginning of the month, the annual conference was a perfect opportunity for me to meet a large number of members at once.”
She added: “The conference was packed with interesting and inspiring presentations on innovation within the carpet recycling industry, circular economy and sustainability with high energy debates on important issues. I look forward to working closely with all our members and the board to raise awareness of the important work that is already being done and to develop an ambitious strategy of influence and change within our industry for the benefit of our environment.”
For Darlene Sammut of Matoha attending the conference for the first time was a ‘great experience’, adding: “It allowed us to engage in meaningful discussions about the flooring industry’s advancements towards a circular economy. By presenting and exhibiting at the conference, we have been able to network and showcase our products, encouraging more collaboration within the industry.”
Adnan concluded: “After a stimulating event packed with discussion, debate and insightful presentations, it’s clear there is a strong need for engagement and collaboration in helping the sector on its sustainability journey to reduce and recycle textile flooring waste while developing opportunities to create circularity within the sector through a more ‘design for recycling’ led approach.”

Today, with 132 votes, Nikolay Denkov was elected Prime Minister of Bulgaria. He will be rotating Prime Minister for the first 9 months of the cabinet after which he will be replaced by Mariya Gabriel.
Nikolay Denkov is an academician of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and a regular member of the European scientific academy "Academia Europaea", a professor and doctor of sciences in physical chemistry. He is a member of the "Physical Sciences Working Group" at the European Space Agency (ESA). He heads the "Active Formulations and Materials" laboratory at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".
According to the 2021 ranking of Stanford University, Academician Denkov is in the top 1% of the world's most influential scientists in his field. His scientific research is in the field of physicochemistry of colloid-dispersed systems, surface-active substances and their numerous applications. He has published more than 180 scientific articles, two of them in the prestigious journal "Nature" and one each in "Nature Physics" and "Nature Communications", as well as 18 reviews.
His works have been cited over 10,000 times in the scientific literature (h-index = 50). He has delivered over 90 lectures at international conferences, conducted over 80 seminars at foreign universities and research institutes. He is the co-author of 12 patents, including six international and four foreign.
He managed more than 45 international projects financed by foreign companies.
He worked as a visiting researcher at the Japan Science Foundation (JRDC), a senior researcher at the Rhone-Poulenc Institute (France), a leading scientist at the Unilever Research Institute (USA). Academician Nikolay Denkov has been awarded a number of prestigious awards for his scientific achievements: the Solvay Award of the European Colloid and Interface Society, the Lectureship Award of the Department of Colloids and Interphase Boundaries of the Japanese Chemical Society, the national award "Pythagoras" of the Ministry of Education and Science, etc.
From 2014 to 2016 Academician Nikolay Denkov was the Deputy Minister of Education and Science with portfolios of higher education and European structural funds. In 2016, he resigned due to disagreement with the policy of the then leadership in the Ministry of Education and Culture.
In 2017, he was acting Minister of Education and Science in the government of Ognyan Gerdzhikov. He held the same post in the two caretaker governments of Stefan Yanev in 2021.
He is one of the iconic names that, together with Kiril Petkov and Asen Vaсsilev, created a new party called "We Continue the Change". On December 13, 2021, he was elected Minister of Education and Science in the regular government of Kiril Petkov.
His administration is associated with the continuation of the policy initiated by GERB to increase the average teacher salary.
Before leaving the ministry, he reported that he had kept his promise that the average teacher salary would be 25% higher than the national average.
However, he failed to realize his goals - to elect school principals in a new way, so that subjectivism and their political orientation could be avoided.
The prepared ordinance was challenged in the Supreme Court. Denkov did not meet public support to realize his other goal - to extend the school year and start classes between September 5 and 7.

They don’t necessarily need to be coloring, however they should be doing something to maintain their palms busy and their minds calm. If you need to add a little bit of an educational punch, incorporate current classroom themes and ideas. We all have “off” days and “on” days, sleepy days and peppy days, grumpy days and pleased days, gradual days and quick days. [newline]Our college students expertise all of this stuff, too. It’s as much as us to be ready with applicable and interesting ESL activities, it doesn't matter what sort of moods and energies the day would possibly deliver. Where attainable, every student who hears a presentation can also be requested to assume of a word in their own language that means the same as the presenter’s “untranslatable” word. After the presentation of each word, the opposite students will have the chance to ask questions, to make clear the word’s that means and utilization.
As many people have now shifted a lot of our instructing online, I have been placing collectively a portal of activities which can be utilized for online studying and teaching. Activities embrace themed conversation questions, the random query generator, scrambled sentence maker, on-line scatter sheet maker, what occurs next, fortune telling runes and far more. ELLs learn from listening to read-alouds, songs, poems, and chants.
I appreciate your hard work and look ahead to hearing extra of your ideas. I don’t know the point of my telling this story… I guess it’s that when it’s done cautiously and respectfully and on the ELL student’s phrases, we can learn SO much from them. “It breaks my heart once I hear teachers say don’t know something,” says Eddington. They simply can’t tell us in English but.” Make a acutely aware effort to see past the accent and the mispronunciations and treat every interplay — each scholar — with the respect they deserve. As with most finest educating practices, all of it comes again to constructing relationships.
Read aloud one of the details that's true for one of these three students. Duolingo is a free app and website that permits you to strengthen your English language expertise with just a few minutes a day. USA Games is crammed with video games to assist students study in regards to the United States, its geography, state capitals and history. A4esl contains many straightforward, medium and troublesome actions and quizzes for students, especially within the areas of vocabulary and grammar.
Picture glossary – One of the best ways to learn the vocabulary of a brand new language is with pictorial flash cards. A picture of the concept is on one aspect while the time period is on the reverse. The scholar learns to correlate ideas immediately with phrases, eliminating the necessity for translation. Model laboratory activities – Demonstrate actions in front of class to ensure that English language learners can see the procedures earlier than participating in an exercise. In my Amazon storefront, I actually have suggestions for skilled growth and assets on word study.
Use organizational buildings when educating earth and house science (8.2), biology (8.3), chemistry (8.4), or physics (8.5) to English language learners. Manual video management – Science videos usually introduce quite a lot of new phrases and ideas, most of which even native speakers never keep in mind. Use the bookmark and video clip features to return to express sequences for evaluation (16.5.4).
Have each pupil write three details about themselves that nobody within the class knows on a piece of paper. Make positive each student contains their name on the top of the web page. Collect the sheets of paper and bring three college students to the entrance of the room.
Please take a look at SIOP for professional development opportunities and conferences. I actually have been studying this weblog for quite a while, so I know that it isn't the feeling of the writer that college students should simply sit at school and pay attention, however the wording used here was very unlucky. It is important that we share and reflect on how we method our career.

Tags: Ice Dancing, Yes this is based on a famous Canadian Ice Dancing Team, cursing, 10 year fic, we use Taylor swift songs whats new, Angst, Fluff, Olympics, Winter Olympics, Alternate Universe, Aged-Up Character(s), Injury
Chapter 2 Published: 10-17-2021
Chapter 2 Summary: It's time for their first Olympics
Story Summary: Julie Molina and Luke Patterson, two incredibly talented people. Singers, songwriters, and just overall fantastic musicians.
Oh and also they are world-ranked ice dancers.
After Caleb Covington placed the 6-year-old Julie and 8-year-old Luke together as an Ice Dancing pair, the two have been dominating the competitions, rising in the ranks, and gaining fans based on their on-ice chemistry all over the world.
Making their international senior debut at age 15 and 17, the two dancers face career highs, lows, injuries, loss, heartbreak, and betrayal over the next ten years of their careers.
And maybe their on-ice chemistry is becoming an off-ice problem.
Keep Reading For A Excerpt
“So that happened,” Julie said.
“Yeah,” Luke nodded his head.
It was December and the USA National Anthem just got done being played at the Grand Prix Final, one year after Julie and Luke had won their bronze medal in their debut season.
Julie fidgeted with the silver medal around her neck, staring straight ahead at the wall.
Yeah, the National Anthem wasn’t for them.
It was for Carrie and Nick.
After constantly beating their training partners all last year by a lot, their rivals somehow came from behind and beat them by half a point at the Grand Prix Finals.
The same finals that Carrie and Nick hadn’t even qualified for the previous year.
It was kind of a low blow to Julie and Luke after they had been dominating the couples that they had lost to the previous year. They had been so focused on looking at the people in front of them that they forgot to look behind them.
“Does your mouth also hurt from fake smiling?” Luke asked, grabbing Julie’s hand, and dragging her around the corner so that they could have a moment alone.
Julie let her mouth relax, realizing that she had been forcing out a smile. “A little bit.” Julie looked around to make sure that she was alone. Once she was sure that there was no one lingering by, she leaned up against the wall, next to Luke and sunk into his side. “It’s not that I’m not happy about silver, because I am. It’s just that I- I don’t know I-“
“Yeah I get what you mean,” Luke cut her off, helping her. “I don’t really know how to explain it either but yeah.”
“I don’t want to go out there,” Julie fell more into Luke’s side, causing him to move his arm and wrap it around her.
“I know.”
“I don’t want to talk to the press and be all cheery. I just want to go to bed and sleep. I’m so tired Luke.”
“Hey, it’s okay. We can get through this press conference real quick and then we can go to bed okay.”
“I want my parents. I want my mom.” Luke pulled Julie into a hug, holding onto his partner. It was hard to remember how young they were sometimes. Between their elite training, their international traveling, and their media attention, it seemed like they were adult adults as opposed to teenagers.
Julie had just turned sixteen, she hadn’t even gotten her license yet. Caleb said that she shouldn’t be focusing on driving during the Olympic year, and she didn’t even have time to take the classes to get her permit anyways. Luke had just turned eighteen and was fresh out of high school. They lived in and out of hotel rooms that Luke had just been legally allowed to check in to and that Julie still needed to be accompanied by someone to do.
They were children.
About to go the biggest sporting competition that happened only every four years.

BACKGROUND
delilah was born in new york city to the famed astor family, who owned several dozen of hotel chains all over the world as well as different real estate around new york. she was basically the middle child, but also the oldest of their girls. after having three boys in a row, her parents were overjoyed to finally have a girl and she was pretty much treated like a princess.
however, their parents demanded perfection from their children in the sense that they always wanted them to excel and achieve great feats. and being the oldest of the girls, they expected nothing less from her. she was sent to the best schools, learned from the best tutors but no matter how well she does, her younger sister who followed her seemed to be doing better. the spotlight soon diverted from her to her younger sister, casting a shadow over delilah as the sibling who was just good enough.
her insecurities began to grow, especially when they always compared her younger sister to her--jealousy forming in her chest even though she cared deeply for her siblings. there was an unspoken sibling rivalry between the two with how their parents made them compete, one wherein she almost always lose. one misstep from her sister though had her parents favoring her again.
when she was twenty-three and her sister was twenty-one, they found out that her sister was pregnant and having an affair with a married man from high society as well. her parents were severely disappointed by her sister and infuriated by the events that transpired as well as the scandal that it brought into their family. so, they tried to mold delilah into their perfect daughter once more, putting all the pressure on her.
unwilling to let the same tragedy befall their eldest daughter, they’ve taken matters into their own hands and arranged for her to be married to someone from a reputable family instead. and not wanting to disappoint her parents, delilah simply agreed with it. they’ve staged a relationship before announcing the engagement.
it was only a month before the wedding when delilah found herself in their private plane from france heading back to new york after attending a conference in paris. the last thing she remembered was their pilot telling them to brace for impact before everything went dark.
afterwards, she woke up in an unfamiliar hospital with a watch she doesn’t remember owning. she’s never heard of a place called sage lake and no matter how much she tried to contact her parents, it does not seem to get through.
it took some time for her to adjust to this place and perhaps, she’s still trying to adjust because for once in her life, she has absolutely no idea what to do--no one telling her what she should do or should not do. the brunette found herself working in the wormwood library as a library aide at first before learning enough to become a librarian. her compulsion for always wanting to have things organized seemed like a great fit in a place where organization and stability was needed.
delilah has been told before that she could be a little uptight, but the brunette would deny that and say that she knows how to loosen up. truth is she was just a bit of a workaholic before in an attempt to please her parents and well, anyone she meets really. the brunette has a habit of being a people pleaser, one that she’s trying to get rid of now. she has a difficulty in saying no and feels guilty when she does so. she wasn’t exactly a recluse, but she only kept a few close friends back in new york and most were just acquaintances. being in sage lake though seemed like a great opportunity for her to work on that and become more personable. when she’s heard of the whole soulmate thing, delilah wasn’t really sure what to think of it. though part of her wanted to meet this person who was supposed to be her other half, she was also scared of what if they don’t get along and all that. to her surprise, her soulmate wasn’t a stranger at all...but someone she knew from outside of this enchanted place.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
friends / close friends - please throw some people for her to be friends with who drags her out to have fun or have movie nights with. she has missed on this opportunities so much back in new york. but now that she has a more laxed lifestyle here, she’ll definitely have the time for them.
best friend from sage lake - someone she met in this place and the two of them quickly gotten along. they could have even been the one to show her the ropes of this place if they were here before her or vice versa if she was here first.
antagonistic relationship - someone she simply doesn’t get along with or even some kind of frenemy. for some reason we could discuss, they just don’t really see eye to eye and seem to always be on each other’s throat.
angsty ex boyfriend - although the numbers on their watch didn’t stop when they met, there was chemistry between the two of them and they still wanted to try to be together. their relationship could have been really good at the start but as one of them gets closer and closer to meeting their soulmate, the other could start having doubts over what they’re doing until they just decided to end their relationship.
past flings - just some flirtationships and people she had a date or two with or even casual hookups she had from before.
AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU HAVE IN MIND! honestly, i’m pretty much down for anything so just hmu or give this a like if you would like to plot with my bby. <3

For his longterm fans especially, it’s nice to have Eddie Redmayne back.
Back in a film with a sweet and aspirational spirit, where breathtaking technology enhances, not overwhelms the actors’ efforts — and where the most dazzling special effect is their chemistry.
Back in small, intimate interviews, free of frenzied ensemble hijinks and one-upsmanship. Back to being thoughtful, sometimes self-deprecating, at times wistful about his acting process and career — nary a wand or cosplaying social media “influencer” in sight talking “Easter eggs,” “canon” or romantic “ships.”
Squeezing in one day of promotion for the U.S. release of The Aeronauts recently, Eddie took the time to connect by conference call with a small group of us who manage some of his most active social media fan accounts, as he has done in conjunction with several of his films.
It’s always something of a pinch-me moment when he pops onto the call, exuberantly announcing himself in that familiar voice.
Right away, he melted our hearts — followed by a half-hour of good conversation and laughter.
Eddie: Hi, guys! How are we? This is becoming almost an annual call. It’s like, my friendly place, you know.
Charlotte (Moderator—BespokeRedmayne on Tumblr, Twitter + Instagram, @AeronautsFilm on Twitter, USA): Well, that’s nice to hear!...Ivonne is going to start.
•Ivonne (@eddieronline on Twitter and eddie-redmayne.net, UK/Spain): I actually got to see the film at the LFF [London Film Festival], and I thought it was a true cinematic experience. There is a line in the film said by Himesh Patel’s character to your character that goes something like: ‘You've been assigned the responsibility to change the world.’ And I was wondering, do you feel the role of cinema is as important as it has ever been given the tumultuous times that we tend to be living in these days?
Eddie: You guys! What an amazing question! I feel that the world — maybe I’m not specific to cinema or television or art — but I feel, you’re absolutely right. It could not be more vital at the moment. That art forms that not only reflect society but that can be used to expose elements of society, give us things to escape society, give us moments of sort of fantasy and things that engage us in all that is around us. One of the things I love about my job is that whatever film you’re doing, whether it’s a real character or not a real character, when you get to immerse yourself in the world of research around it, it always does change you in some ways by educating you. And I find that when I go to a cinema or I go to an art gallery, it’s constantly shifting and changing the prism through which you look at the world.
Tumblr media
•Charlotte: Even before you began filming The Aeronauts, you were telling us about how beautiful you found the script and how intimate and meaningful the storytelling is. Could you tell us — and the people we’re writing for — what makes The Aeronauts worth seeing, no matter what screen size they see it on?
Eddie: The very simple message of not letting other people put restrictions on aspirations, which is something, I suppose, that was also a theme of The Theory of Everything and some of the other films I’ve done is one that I believe keenly. So that was important to me. But the other thing was — and I’ve talked a lot about it in the press and I know you guys are super, very supportive, and secondly are aware of a lot of the things I say, but this idea of wonder. I find that so much of what we read and watch is incredibly sort of depressing, and I thought this had a notion of hope to it, and that it had an idea of the sublime and wonder to it that felt compelling to me. The reason I took on the film was of all the scripts I’d been reading, even though it was playing another scientist, period drama, English, there were scenes in it — when Felicity’s on top of that balloon — that as you read the script you just went, ‘I’m desperate to see that on a cinema screen or on a screen.’ And that was one reason, and the other was the pure challenge of can you keep an audience engaged when it’s two people’s intimate story against this macro backdrop. That’s what I found enticing.
Tumblr media
•Marci (The Redmayne Files, USA): You went up in an actual balloon for this film, which to a lot of people might seem pretty risky or extreme. Is that the most dangerous or daredevil thing you’ve done for a role, and if not, what is? And, were you nervous about going up in the balloon?
Tumblr media
Eddie: You know, it probably is the most, well, is it the most? I think the most extreme thing I’ve done for a role is this moment in Jupiter Ascending in which I was sort of hung on these wires about 30 feet in the air without really knowing what would happen when I was spun around like 50 times, when the character was spinning through some gravity-free, weird — I had no idea what was going on there. I remember ignorance being blissful then because I had no idea what I was doing.

It was the most, I suppose, terrifying on The Aeronauts, because of that story that I’ve recounted, but really the most important thing about that story — or not important but riveting thing was the total peace one second, because it was so quiet and you were having the most stunning views, beautiful landscape, to total carnage, chaos, noise and fear within a millisecond. And the only other one I’ve mentioned is the old Elizabeth I horse riding story which was on this huge steed with spurs on my feet, unable to ride, careering toward Helen Mirren and the cavalry. (Laughter) Those were probably the most terrifying moments.
•Ali (eddieredmayne.net, USA): In the film, your character, James, goes to great lengths to learn more about meteorology and expand that field. Is there any topic or idea that you would like to learn more about? Or are your films a way that you do that?
Eddie: The honest truth to that is that I’ve probably become a — I’m definitely excessive when there’s work involved, when I get a script and I know I’m doing it, whether it’s theater, films — I get a bit obsessive. I’m a bad reader generally — I’m a slow reader — but I find it very difficult to read anything other than things to do with the work when I’m sort of in it. So a few years ago I sort of submitted to that where I had guilt about not reading enough novels or not reading — I submitted to the idea that I’ll let the work dictate what I read up on. And I found that incredibly enjoyable. There are times, particularly when I’m working on a location somewhere, where I’ll want to go and get under the skin of the city you’re staying in, and I love that element. But for me, the things that remain are — I have a passion for art, and more and more recently a bit of anything about architecture. One of the joyful things recently when I was in Chicago, was getting to go on the architecture tour, and in the evenings when I walked back from filming and you’d get to study some of the buildings, and I found that lovely.
•Charlotte: We have EE from New Zealand. This is her first time on the call.
Eddie: New Zealand, wow! What time is it?
•EE (@AmazingEddieRedmayne on Instagram): It’s 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. [Editor’s note: For the rest of us on the call, it was Wednesday afternoon.]
Eddie: Wow, you’re amazing!
Tumblr media
•EE: Weather predicting and weather patterns are a major theme for your character in the film.  Over here in New Zealand we are a country obsessed with weather chat! Have you found yourself kind of more invested in the weather and how the day will pan out…like looking at all the apps…have you become more of a weather guy?
Eddie: You know, that’s absolutely hilarious because both my mother and my wife are obsessed with the weather. My mum is endlessly reminding me that she did a job at the university talking about, ‘Ooh, there’s a cold front coming in.’  And Hannah will always be sort of obsessive before going out, checking the weather app on her phone to see like exactly how many layers — I couldn’t be less interested in the weather. So it’s so funny because when I read the script, of course all the science was sort of riveting, but as I hear the film described as ‘the man who wanted to understand about the weather,’ I’m like, oh my God. Only in New Zealand and England are they going to be interested in that…I’ve got to say that I’ve just been doing an interview before this about places that have blown my mind, and the first film I ever made, I shot in Australia, and then Tom Sturridge and I came over to New Zealand, for like two weeks at Christmas, and we shot on those extraordinary beaches, those volcanic beaches just outside Auckland, and oh! My God, they remain the most beautiful place in the world I’ve ever been. I would actually love to come back one day.
EE: You’re welcome any time.
Eddie: Thank you (laughter).
•Ivonne: Eddie, you've mentioned how you instantly fell in love with the script of The Aeronauts, and I'd imagine that you must be getting a lot of scripts these days. What makes a script stand out for you?  And do you base your decision on the script alone, or do you also take into account who else is part of the project?
Eddie: You know, that’s something that shifted as I did more work because back in the day what would  happen was as an actor you’d get sent a script by your agent, and it would say, for example, ‘This is Elizabeth the Golden Age, it’s being made by Working Title Pictures, it’s being directed by Shekhar Kapur, it’s starring Cate Blanchett. Please take a look at this part, and audition for it.’ And you would go, ‘Oh, wow! That would be great, and I would be lucky to be in that.’ You’d audition for it, you’d try to get it, and if you got it, you’d do it. The riveting thing that’s happened in the past couple years is that suddenly you’re being sent books before they’ve been made into television series or films, you’re being asked to step up very early in the process. Some actors love attaching themselves to lots and lots and lots of things. If I become attached to something, I really want to — and because there is a certain element, and because it’s an industry where some things will happen, some things won’t…I prefer to try and keep those things as films that I’m really keen to make. But suddenly you’re the one having to take the leap, as it were — the leap of faith. So all I do now is react with instinct, and that basically is, when I’m reading a script — Alfred Molina described it beautifully — you’re sort of reading a script, and then you suddenly you feel a lurch in your stomach, a slight sickness because you suddenly go from reading the script objectively to reading the script imagining yourself doing it. And if you feel that lurch or sickness, then I’m probably going to do the thing.
*Charlotte: We know better than to expect you to spill any secrets about Fantastic Beasts 3…
Eddie: Yeah…
*Charlotte: …so let me ask you about the Trial of the Chicago 7…what it’s like portraying Tom Hayden, and working with Aaron Sorkin and a great ensemble cast. I’m kind of wondering how you’re doing with the accent…and the long hair and hippie culture, and what has the overall experience been?
Eddie: Well, the long hair — I thought that was going to be a thing, but it isn’t, because we’re shooting it all together. In Chicago, in ’68 during the riots, he had short hair — quite long on top. And then the trial lasted so long that his hairstyle changed. This is Sorkin’s take on those events, so we sort of ended up at a place that’s pretty, sort of neutral. The film’s — we’re in the thick of it. Today’s a day off, like the only day off I’ve had. It’s an amazing ensemble of actors. It’s riveting to watch this group of actors, some people I’ve known for a long time, some that I haven’t, all with their different processes, all trying to depict this very beautiful script. I’m sure you saw in the press that this was a film I was attached to, and then it fell through, and then it came back again. It’s such a long gestating project, but it’s just brilliant that we’re making it, and it really has been a joy being part of that ensemble. They’re a pretty wonderful troupe.
*Charlotte: When you say that Sorkin’s take on it is pretty neutral, what do you mean?
Eddie: That means…on the way I look. What’s interesting is that I’ve done so many things based on real life, and the way Aaron described it is this is a painting, not a photograph. And of course there are many moments in the piece that are verbatim taken from the trial, and there are elements that aren’t. But I really hope it ends up being a beautiful thing...I hope we’ll get to talk again around when that film comes out.

•Marci: You’ve done a few roles now where you play real people from history – is it easier having that background to go off of when you’re preparing for a role, or do you find it more freeing to play fictional characters?
Eddie: It depends on the director’s take. Obviously when I was playing Stephen, and Stephen was part of the process, it was very specific. And The Danish Girl was a film script based on a novel based on a truth. It was three steps away from the reality, and so there was a huge amount of artistic license. I find it really useful, here’s the thing: When you’re doing an adaptation of a novel — years ago, I did Tess of the d’Urbervilles, and I read that and studied it. But then you’ve got a script which is much shorter than the novel and can’t fulfill the tiny intricacies. And I remember the actor that I was working with hadn’t read the book, and I remember feeling a bit shocked by that. And he said that he found the problem was he’d try to paint in things that aren’t supported by the script. Does that make sense? And when I watched Tess of the d’Urbervilles, he was so much more successful in his characterization than I was because he wasn’t busy trying to paint in things that weren’t supported.
Tumblr media
So it’s an interesting thing when you’re playing real people. You try to do all the research, but then a lot of it, if it doesn’t help the script that you’re portraying, you have to accept that verisimilitude or by doing an impression of — and again, it depends on the director. Some people, ‘I don’t even want you to think about that character that you’re playing. I want you to play the words on the script, on the page.’ Does that make sense? So I always do the research in order for them to throw it away, but hopefully it’s sitting there inside me somewhere.
Charlotte: Ali, I think your next question plays well off that.
•Ali: I thought so, too.Your most recent films have all been period-related films with most of them based on true characters.  If you could do something different for your next project, what kind of film would you like to participate in?
Eddie: You know what, at the moment for me, it’s not about the film — it really is about the filmmaker. I just really want to work with some directors that I really admire…I know that I’ve got another Fantastic Beasts, so I’m going to be back in tweed, and all that joking about trying to get more contemporary. I can’t tell you how fun it is playing parts where you’re in the makeup trailer for about five minutes rather than an hour-and-a-half, and costume takes about 30 seconds. But really at the moment it’s about who the filmmaker is and not the story necessarily. I would just love to work with some great filmmakers.
Tumblr media
•Ali: You said you had specifics. Are there a few specific individuals?
Eddie: There are. I’ve always dreamt of working with David Fincher, principally because he does thousands of takes, and that fits my process quite well. The Sorkin movie is a very quick shoot, and there’s a very quick turnaround, so you only get a take or two. The thing about films is that you spend all this time creating a character in a vacuum, and I like as many opportunities to try and play with things, but obviously time doesn’t always allow that. But quite often, people are, ‘Well, Fincher does thousands of takes,’ and I’m, like, ‘Brilliant!’ (laughter from everyone). There’s one example.
•Erina: I saw the movie (The Aeronauts) last week, and after watching the film I felt a positive sense of achievement in a very inspiring kind of way.  How important do you think these types of films are in a world that at the moment can be a little bit negative and a little bit downbeat at times?
Eddie: I think that it’s all a sum of what I was saying before, that what I read about the script, the idea of the wonder and looking up. I find that in London, for example, it’s really interesting that you walk down the high streets of London and at ground level it’s like every other high street in the world — every famous shop, McDonald’s, a pharmacy, everything you’ve ever seen. And that’s the way you exist, but occasionally, London is an ancient city. When you look up onto the second floor, you’ve got some of the most beautiful architecture, but the first floor is just Pizza Hut or whatever. That idea of looking up and relating to computers and telephones and looking down, it is more literal than that, actually. I’m in New York at the moment, and I thought that was one of J.K. Rowling’s geniuses in Fantastic Beasts, the Woolworth Building, a building you just take for granted but the idea that it could be filled with something else, that your imagination can take it to different places, as well, that was important.
Tumblr media
So I think that being this theme throughout The Aeronauts of these two people supporting each other to find the best version of themselves was interesting. And I like that. I felt that that married well with how Felicity and I had worked on Theory of Everything, and obviously the idea of getting to play with her was really enticing.
*Erina: And I felt I wanted to go out and climb a mountain or something. (Laughter)
Eddie: Did you, though? I feel like I’m going to climb a mountain — or maybe I’ll just watch Netflix. (Laughter)
*Charlotte: Well, we’re getting near the end of our time slot. Is there anything you’d like to add, any kind of message to your fans?
Tumblr media
Eddie: Oh, gosh. I’m so bad at this! It is so wonderful to feel supported by a group of people. I know some of you have been such longterm fans and supporters. The anonymity of it — it’s a different thing when you do theater and you get to see a reaction and a support and a response. And film and television is different because you create these things and we never can rationalize that people actually see it. But getting to speak to you guys, from all corners of the globe, and it’s totally surreal and very wonderful. Thank you for your support. It really, really does mean a vast amount.
Charlotte: Well, we can’t believe that you’re willing to do this with us. It’s very special, and we’re all so grateful for the time that we get with you.
Eddie: Thank you for saying that. I’m hoping we’ll get together again around Chicago 7. Lots of love, guys.
The Aeronauts launches in U.S. theaters Friday, Dec. 6, and can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video beginning Dec. 20.
