28/04/2024. Good morning from Paris, the photographs this week will be looking back to when I visited the railway museum in Mulhouse, in March 2022. Oh to have lived in a time when rail travel looked like this, I would love to have had a trip seated in a compartment like this.
I am writing this from Sainte-Antoine hospital where my treatment should have started yesterday, unfortunately, when I arrived a nasal swab identified a respiratory infection and so I am receiving treatment for that first. I have had a CT scan today and the doctor reported that all looked good.
I spent a full day in the hospital in Troyes on Monday, I had to have a transfusion which was supposed to be platelets but my blood test revealed that the platelets were ok but that haemoglobin levels were low so that was the transfusion. Then sitting waiting for the taxi to arrive for the return journey all eats into the time away from home.
I also had a telephone call from this hospital advising that instead of arriving on Thursday I was to arrive on Friday, the reason being that Friday was originally to put a PICC line in, however, as I already have one there was no point in arriving a day early.
I had visits from Nadine, Monique and Anie all wishing me well for the treatment. Darcy in America messaged to say they are coming back to France and can’t wait to see me when I get home. There is a long way to go before I arrive home again but I am taking it all one day at a time.
I am sure you know by now that my garden means a lot to me, so I was disappointed that the iris hadn’t started to flower and I will miss them again this year. The good news is that the ten primulas I bought way back in February have all been accounted for, yes even though some looked almost dead they benefited from being pushed into pots or the potager. I have now potted them on into bigger pots hoping that when I get home they will have grown more.
I am sad that there are no beans, peas, lettuce, beetroot, tomato or strawberries planted this year. I really enjoyed tending to those plants and even though there were not lots of the produce I felt proud to have grown it. Never mind when I get home I may be able to get some produce started.
“The Trainee Solicitor” has had a new lease of life, as another member of staff joined the team and this meant he could be away from the front desk and upstairs doing his own work. What a change there was in him. Unfortunately the new staff member only works part-time so he did have two days on the front desk!
“The Reconnect Navigator” must have “broken in” the DM’s as I haven’t heard of any more damage to her feet. She has had some new aspects to her work but all in all faces up to the challenge.
“The Photographer” and “The Jetsetter” had a day in London. They were going to the theatre in the afternoon but walked for miles taking in sights too. It’s interesting that I would willingly go to Paris for a day and yet when I lived in the UK I would not have entertained going to London for a day. The journey takes roughly the same amount of time but London is not a place I find welcoming which I do with Paris.
Looking to the music this week, I have found (one) of my favourite songs by The Rolling Stones its “Miss You” from 1978.
The second song is back to 2010, yes just round the corner of your mind, it’s by Maroon 5 and it’s “Moves Like Jagger” ft. Christina Aguilera.

This photo shows the cutlery, crockery and the silverware from the Presidential train. How refined!
So I wish you well for the week ahead and “inshallah” I will be back again next week.

SAINTS FOR MARCH 13
ST. CHRISTINA OF PERSIA, MARTYR, she lived during the third century and was the daughter of a rich and powerful magistrate believed to have been named Urbain. He was deep in the practices of heathenism and had a number of golden idols, which he distributed among the poor. Mar. 13
ST. SABINUS OF HERMOPOLIS, MARTYR IN EGYPT, With other Christians, he retreated into the wilderness to escape the persecutions of Diocletian, but was betrayed to the authorities by a beggar he had helped. Martyr. Died. drowned in the River Nile in Egypt c.307; Mar.13
St. Ramirus and Companions, Roman catholic Martyrs of Spain. Ramirus served as prior of St. Claudus Monastety in Leon, Spain. The community was set upon by the Visigoths who, as Arians, opposed orthodox Christianity. The abbot, St Vincent, was put to death, followed two days later by Ramirus and the entire community. Feastday Mar. 13
ST. LEANDER, BISHOP OF SEVILLE, Leander was born at Cartagena, Spain, of Severianus and Theodora, illustrious for their virtue. St. Isidore and Fulgentius, both bishops were his brothers, and his sister, Florentina, is also numbered among the saints. He became a monk at Seville and then the bishop of the See. Mar. 13 Bl. Agnello of Pisa. The founder of the English Franciscan province, Blessed Agnello, was admitted into the Order by St. Francis himself on the occasion of his sojourn in Pisa. He was sent to the Friary in Paris, of which he became the guardian, and in 1224, St. Francis appointed him to found an English province; at the time he was only a deacon. Eight others were selected to accompany him. True to the precepts of St. Francis, they had no money, and the monks of Fecamp paid their passage over to Dover. They made Canterbury their first stopping place, while Richard of Ingworth, Richard of Devon and two of the Italians went on to London to see where they could settle. It was the winter of 1224, and they must have suffered great discomfort, especially as their ordinary fare was bread and a little beer, which was so thick that it had to be diluted before they could swallow it. Nothing, however, dampened their spirits, and their simple piety, cheerfulness and enthusiasm soon won them many friends. They were able to produce a commendatory letter from Pope Honorius III, so that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Steven Langton, in announcing their arrival, said, "Some religious have come to me calling themselves penitents of the Order of Assisi, but I called them of the Order of the Apostles." In the meantime, Richard of Ingworth and his party had been well received in London and hired a dwelling on Cornhill. They were now ready to push on to Oxford, and Agnello came from Canterbury to take charge of the London settlement. Everywhere the Friars were received with enthusiasm, and Matthew Paris himself attests that Blessed Agnello was on familiar terms with King Henry III. Agnello is thought to have died at the age of forty-one, only eleven years after he landed at Dover, but his reputation for sanctity and prudence stood high amongst his fellows. It is stated that his zeal for poverty was so great that "he would never permit any ground to be enlarged or any house to be built except as inevitable necessity required." He was stern in resisting relaxations in the Rule, but his gentleness and tact led him to be chosen in 1233 to negotiate with the rebellious Earl Marshal. His health is said to have been undermined by his efforts in this cause and by a last painful journey to Italy. Opon his return he was seized with dysentery at Oxford and died there, after crying out for three days, "Come, Sweetest Jesus." The cult of Blessed Agnello was confirmed in 1892; his feast is observed in the Archdiocese of Birmingham today and by the Friars Minor on the eleventh.
St. Kevoca, 7th century. Scottish saint, honored in Kyle, Scotland. but now believed to be St. Mochoemoc. Also called Quivox.
St. Mochoemoc, 656 A.D. Abbot Founder of Liath Mochoemoc Monastery at Tipperary, Ireland. He was the son of Bevan and Nessa and the brother or nephew of St. Ita. Listed as Machaemhog, Puicherius, or Vuicherius, he was trained by St. Ita, at Munster, Ireland, and received ordination by St. Comgall at Bangor. Mochoemoc founded Arderin Abbey and others before he died.

An Astronaut’s Tips For Living in Space – Or Anywhere
Astronaut patch / NASA - Exploration patch. March 23, 2020 One thing astronauts have to be good at: living in confined spaces for long periods of time. Here are some tips for all who find yourself in a similar scenario.
Image above: The Expedition 59 crewmembers gather for a portrait inside Japan's Kibo laboratory module. Front row from left are David Saint-Jacques, Oleg Kononenko and Anne McClain who are returning to Earth June 24. In the back are Christina Koch, Alexey Ovchinin and Nick Hague. Image Credit: NASA. Nearly 20 years successfully living on the International Space Station and more than 50 flying in space did not happen by accident. NASA astronauts and psychologists have examined what human behaviors create a healthy culture for living and working remotely in small groups. They narrowed it to five general skills and defined the associated behaviors for each skill. NASA astronauts call it “Expeditionary Behavior,” and they are part of everything we do. When it goes well, it's called “good EB.” Here are the five good expeditionary behavior skills: Skill 1, Communication Definition: Communication means to talk so you are clearly understood. To listen, and question to understand. Actively listen, pick up on non-verbal cues. Identify, discuss, then work to resolve conflict. To practice good Communication EB, share information and feelings freely. Talk about your intentions before taking action. Use proper terminology. Discuss when your or others’ actions were not as expected. Take time to debrief after success or conflict. Listen, then restate messages to ensure they are understood. Admit when you are wrong. Skill 2, Leadership/Followership Definition: How well a team adapts to changed situations. A leader enhances the group's ability to execute its purpose through positive influence. A follower (aka a subordinate leader) actively contributes to the leader’s direction. Establish an environment of trust. To practice good Leadership/Followership EB, accept responsibility. Adjust your style to your environment. Assign tasks and set goals. Lead by example. Give direction, information, feedback, coaching and encouragement. Ensure your teammates have resources. Talk when something isn’t right. Ask questions. Offer solutions, not just problems. Skill 3, Self-Care Definition: Self-Care means keeping track of how healthy you are on psychological and physical levels. It includes hygiene, managing your time and your stuff, getting sleep, and maintaining your mood. Through self-care, you demonstrate your ability to be proactive to stay healthy. To practice good Self-Care EB, realistically assess your own strengths and weaknesses, and their influence on the group. Learn from mistakes. Identify personal tendencies and their influence on your success or failure. Be open about your weaknesses and feelings. Take action to mitigate your own stress or negativity (don't pass it on to the group). Be social. Seek feedback. Balance work, rest, and personal time. Be organized. Skill 4, Team Care Definition: Team Care is how healthy the group is on psychological, physical and logistical levels. Recognize that this can be influenced by stress, fatigue, sickness, supplies, resources, workload, etc. Nurture optimal team performance despite challenges. To practice good Team Care EB, demonstrate patience and respect. Encourage others. Monitor your team for signs of stress or fatigue. Encourage participation in team activities. Develop positive relationships. Volunteer for the unpleasant tasks. Offer and accept help. Share credit; take the blame. Skill 5, Group Living Definition: Group Living skills are how people cooperate and become a team to achieve a goal. Identify and manage different opinions, cultures, perceptions, skills and personalities. Demonstrate resilience in the face of difficulty. To practice good Group Living EB, cooperate rather than compete. Actively cultivate group culture (use each individual's culture to build the whole). Respect roles, responsibilities and workload. Take accountability; give praise freely. Then work to ensure a positive team attitude. Keep calm in conflict. You can be successful in confinement if you are intentional about your actions and deliberate about caring for your team. When we work together, we will continue to be #EarthStrong. TheWorldsBetweenThePages’ 2019 Reading Wrap Up
Wow, 2019 flowed by really fast!
Many exciting things happened this year, including my first solo day trip to the Netherlands, and a six week work trip to Sweden - and of course I indulged in books on both trips - and I’m almost finished with my job education.
And of course, I read a ton of books, more than ever before. Also, my blog gained quite a number of followers - thank you so much! I sincerely hope that you enjoy my reviews and will continue to do so :)
This year, I set myself a personal reading goal: to try and read mostly books written by women, and I think it worked out pretty well. I think that they’re a lot better, and I’m spared a lot of sexist and objectifying bullshit. 2018, 40% of the books I read were written by men. 2019, I reduced that to roughly 21%, most of the remaining books being children’s books from my own childhood that I would consider safe ;) Let’s see where this will go 2020.
Due to the high number of books I’ve read, it’s really hard to highlight the absolute favourites and break them down to two books like I did last year, but I’ll try to keep it short.
My favourite reads of 2019:
The Choice by Edith Eger
The Seafire series by Natalie C. Parker - Seafire & Steel Tide
Caraval & Legendary by Stephanie Garber
The Rebel of the Sands Trilogy by Alwyn Hamilton
The Girl in Red by Christina Henry
Everless by Sara Holland
TheWorldsBetweenThePages’ 2018 Wrap Up
And below you’ll find a list of all the books I’ve read this year as well as links to the reviews, in case you’re interested :)
Now all that’s left is this: I wish all of you a good start into 2020! Keep on reading!

SAINTS FOR MARCH 13
Bl.

Listed as Machaemhog, Puicherius, or Vuicherius, he was trained by St. Ita, at Munster, Ireland, and received ordination by St. Comgall at Bangor. Mochoemoc founded Arderin Abbey and others before he died.
Mar. 13

2020 Reading Challenge - E-Book Edition!
According to Amazon, I have exactly 294 e-books currently sitting in my Kindle library.
Granted, some of these books have been read and are being saved for a second (or third, or fourth) re-read, but when it comes down to it, that number is around 40 books, give or take.
Which means I still have over 250 books that need to be read.
And it’s not like I haven’t tried! There are plenty of titles that, when opened up, will go to the last place I left off - that being chapter 5, or maybe chapter 10. But sometimes life gets in the way. Or a sudden interest in another author. Or a new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. But whatever the reason may be, it’s over 250 books that haven’t been read. Challenge accepted!
For 2020, I commit to not buying any new books to add to my Kindle library (checking out books from the library is ok, because you’ve gotta support your local library!), and instead focus on the books I already have. So no addition of 99 cent books, or Kindle Unlimited books, or books that are suddenly 75% off. Only the books that I currently have.
As the reading commences, and after the book is finished, I’ll update my list to indicate what has been completed, along with the date purchased, and a short review (or a reason I just couldn’t finish it at all).
Below is the list for future reference - and to clarify my what my favorite genre is. Spoiler: it’s romance novels.
