chinese dance dramas (舞剧) are so underrated as a whole but i want to point out how steady this dancer is and how good his 基本功/fundamentals are

there's a term, 留头, that describes keeping the front of your head in place as your body turns. you then immediately turn your head around (甩头), faster than your body can do a full 360. this gives off the illusion of your turns being silky smooth. it's hard to do that when you have to rotate your entire body, limbs and all, but this guy does such a good job at it.

平转/flat turn is to turn while keeping your head entirely still; to the viewers, the top of your head remains flat. his flat turns are so smooth and you can see the quick footwork he does for this

same with the 点步翻身 (aka 点翻)/side turn, his footwork is so steady and he's still 留头ing. and you can see how he does his 走位/positioning, where he moves to the center front of the stage as choreographed, while he's doing these side turns.

speaking of his footwork, yes king arch your toes!! point your feet!! i cannot for the life of me remember what that forward 控腿 + stagger move is called, probably because i'm running on four hours of sleep, but his arched feet add so much to the elegance of the motion

why do i like chinese dance so much? traditional/folk chinese dancer-turned-cpop idol liu yu made me fall in love with him in one minute fifty-something seconds during his additional round fan dance on chuang 2021 (produce camp 2021)

Running Like A Shooting Star is a bromance if you squint, and an enjoyable university sports (track and field) series about friendship, overcoming adversity, and fighting for your dreams if you don't. It's fun to squint though.

Qi Tian breaking character by using his own name (he's playing Wen Zhengming, a famous Ming dynasty painter/scholar), and basically proposing to Yiran. 🤭

Yiran suffering through injury and setbacks and then pushing Qi Tian away even though Qi Tian was trying to take care of him gave me so many feels. Qi Tian didn't get mad, he understood and cried for Yiran's pain. 😭

Of course Qi Tian would miss Yiran. Yiran isn't ready to say goodbye, though I didn't expect him to be so upset about Qi Tian saying he wanted to date someone other than him. 🤭

Yiran really does love Qi Tian. He flew out to Zurich just to cook for him? Qi Tian is less straightforward as usual, but I think him not wanting his team to join for dinner says it all. He wants his alone time with Yiran even though he's making excuses.

This is pretty much how it ends, and it feels slightly incomplete in terms of Qi Tian and Yiran's relationship, but then I remind myself this series is not actually a bl, and then it's fine. 😅 I also want to praise this series for showing track and field as being more than just running. One of the guys is a shot putter! My favorite old school Olympic sport.

The OST isn't bad either. No great vocals, but the songs are catchy.

That's hu yetao he was in chuang. When I watched that show he was really trying to have that liu yuxin nachos. His whole storyline was that he had long hair as a guy 😭😭 and not even a hairbreadth of talent genuinely the most annoying and grating voice I've ever heard.

HELPPPPP 😭 i do kinda rmr him from chuang 2021 his whole deal was looking androgynous but he got drowned out by all the other big personalities that season (that was the season with that douyin comedy drag queen right???) so i dont even rmr what he sounded like or if he could dance. Also crazy that hes right back at the chuang auditions like. Its been a whole 4 years how is this still ur schtick ... And ur soooo right not everyone can be liu yuxin she had an unbelievable run on her season cos she had so much more to offer than just looking hot and androgynous
