Le Festival international Nuits d’Afrique célèbre son 35e anniversaire, avec une sélection de musiques africaines du 6 au 18 juillet. Le festival propose différentes salles situées autour de Montréal, ainsi que des événements Facebook live.  La musique africaine était difficile à trouver à Montréal il y a 35 ans, jusqu’à ce que le club Balattou sur Saint-Laurent devienne un endroit populaire…

I realized that I may have to change my timeline around a bit. I learned from people around me that some venues book artists up to three months in advance. Considering that Red Bean Rice is arriving to Montreal beginning of January and that it would be ideal for them to have gigs as soon as they arrive, I realized I needed to contact venues now. So, today, I started making a list of venues in Montreal I should contact to book gigs in January-May. It's a mix of places I actually now or have heard of before, and places that I simply saw online but that I need to check out in more detail. Here is the list: -Casa del Popolo -Sala Rosa La Sotterenea -Cafe Resonance -Brutopia -L’escalier -Grumpy’s bar -Barfly -Maison Oflore -l’Escogriffe -Quai des brumes -Ye Old Orchard -VV Taverna -Shaika -Brasserie Beaubien -The Wiggle Room -Club Balattou -Bar Social Verdun -La Vitrola -La Place Commune -Reggies Bar -Cafe Blanc de Blanc -Mariposa -French Quartet -Bar de Courcelle -Crobar -Diese Onze -Bar le Bievre -Le Sainte Elisabeth -McLean’s Pub -Bistro de Paris I also started to contact people that I know who perform in Montreal to ask them if they had specific venues to recommend, to add on to my list. My next step is to make a sort of table with all the contact info of each venue and to send them emails or call them. I will keep track of all my steps, who replied, who I need to bug some more, etc.

Back in her hometown since April 2015, Sarah Jane shows her architectural talents in the reconstruction of her country affected by the winter 2010 earthquake while already addressing the preparation of her new album, Lost Breed , A social album that recounts her return to the fold and whose original repertoire revolves around the Nu Pop-Jazz. Since her return, she has shared the stage with many Haitian artists and musicians of high caliber and she participates for the first time in The 10th edition of the International Jazz Festival in Port-au-Prince and the commemoration of the Independence of the United States in Haiti on 4 July 2016. With her unique voice and style, Sarah Jane hopes to evolve Haitian music to the contemporary world. She is undoubtedly one of the rising stars of her generation on the Haitian and international music scene. At the age of 17, She came to Montreal and pursued her studies at CEGEP Montmorency in Laval in Visual Arts and later on obtained a Bachelor degree in Architectural Design at the University of Montreal. She, then, moved to Bordeaux, in France in 2012 for a Masters Degree in Architecture, specializing in housing and housing environment. Painting, drawing... overall, creating have always been for SJ means of expression, a way for her to demonstrate the abstraction of her ideas, her vivid imagination, her love of color… An extension of herself. Although, music, another great passion, yet cloistered inside her is soon to be revealed. She took singing lessons and performanced in places such as the Palace, Pollo Loco, Kalalu Restaurant, Balattou Club, in Montreal with several renowned Haitian artists like Toto Laraque and his son Pascal, Jude Deslouches, the late Claude Jeannot, Amos Coulanges, Claude Marcelin, TMD (Michel Dulyx), Biko, Reginald Toussaint Hugo Valsaint, Marco Volcy living in Montreal and this to name a few... In Bordeaux, she performed with Jafly, the reggae fusion music group and have worked with the french musician and producer, Vax-1. She also had performed many times in Haiti at Backyard, Presse-Café, Montana Hotel, La Reserve Restaurant, Yanvalou, Carel Pedre's and Fabiola Coupet's radio shows Chokarella and Bibi's Show with many reknown artists such as Akoustik Band, Joel Widmaier, Ti-Sax, Nathalie Cerin, Yohann Doré, Johnberg Thomas and many more... Ce grand événement des musiques du monde de tous horizons sera animé par plus de 700 artistes d’une trentaine de pays. -I am promoting the band's next big show which will be on March 5th at Club Balattou. I'm sending out private messages to people I know, putting out posters at school, I added an add in the school's weekly emails. The band members will give out flyers in the streets a couple days before the show and on the day of the show.

-I got in contact with a student who writes for the student paper at Concordia. She will come to Red Bean Rice's show on the 26th to interview them and do an article on them which will be published on April 7th. The idea is to promote their show on April 26th in this article.

-I am in the process of negotiating with McLean's Pub to hopefully get the band a paid gig sometime in early April.

-i'm still waiting for the school to reply with an authorization to perform in the school's lobbies.

-next step is contacting a guy who works at a Montreal radio station whom one of the band members has met in the past, to hopefully get him to play their songs on the radio. I will also contact the school's radio.
