Valorant Agents react to reader giving them something for Christmas
Part 1: featuring Viper, Sage, Reyna and Killjoy
a/n: fluff; tried to stay true to their personalities
Viper: The Valorant Protocol headquarters buzzed with the festive cheer of the holiday season. Agents gathered in the decorated living room, exchanging gifts, laughter, and stories. Yet, amidst the celebration, one notable absence was felt—Viper. As you scanned the room, you noticed your solitary gift wrapped under the Christmas tree, adorned with a tag bearing Viper's name. You weren't surprised that she hadn't joined the festivities; that was simply who she was. Still, a pang of concern tugged at you. You decided to investigate, grabbing the present and making your way down to Viper's cold laboratory.
Entering the lab, you found her hunched over a table, engrossed in her work. "Why aren't you up there, celebrating with us?" you asked, your voice careful not to disrupt her focus. "I don't have time for that. I am working on something important," she replied coolly, not bothering to look up. Respecting her dedication to her craft, you wordlessly placed the gift near the door, a silent acknowledgment of your understanding. You left without a word, the door closing behind you.
Late into the night, as Viper meticulously finished her work, she noticed the wrapped present on the wooden surface. With a sigh, she decided to open it. To her surprise, the gift was a beautifully bound book about toxins and potions. As she flipped through the pages, it became evident that you had not only heard but truly listened when she spoke about her work. A wave of guilt washed over Viper. She knew she had chosen her lab over the celebration, and it left an emptiness she hadn't anticipated. Compelled by a newfound sense of connection, she decided to check if you were still awake. Approaching the living room, she glimpsed everyone having fun but hesitated at the entrance.
You caught sight of her from the corner of your eye, and for a moment, your eyes met. Without a word, she turned to leave. However, a small smile played on her lips, and as she walked away, a subtle warmth spread through her, knowing that even in her solitary world, someone cared enough to understand her.
Sage:  The air at the Christmas market was filled with the enchanting melodies of holiday tunes, the tantalizing scent of roasted chestnuts, and the warm glow of festive lights. Sage and you strolled through the market, taking in the cheerful atmosphere, stopping at various stalls to explore the unique crafts and treats.
Amidst the lively crowd, you couldn't help but notice a beautifully adorned booth showcasing an array of rare and aromatic herbs. It seemed like the perfect place to find a special gift for Sage. The vendor, an artisan with a passion for botanical wonders, explained the healing properties of each herb, and your mind immediately connected the dots. As you selected a collection of rare herbs known for their soothing and healing properties, a sense of excitement welled up within you. The vibrant colors and fragrant aromas seemed to complement the festive ambiance of the market.
Spotting Sage a few steps away, engrossed in examining a display of handmade ornaments, you approached her with a smile. "I found something I thought you'd love," you said, presenting the carefully wrapped package. Sage's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she took the gift. "Oh, what's this?" she wondered aloud, unwrapping it with gentle anticipation. As the herbs were revealed, Sage's face lit up with delight. "This is amazing! How did you know I would love this?" she exclaimed, cradling the herbs in her hands. "Well, I thought it would be a perfect way to bring a bit of healing and nature into the holiday season," you replied with a grin.
Sage's warm laughter resonated through the market, and she pulled you into a grateful hug. The two of you continued to explore the market, the gift serving as a tangible reminder of the thoughtful connection you shared amid the festive magic of the Christmas market. Later that evening, as you rejoined the celebration with the other agents, Sage proudly displayed her newfound treasures, grateful for the thoughtful and heartwarming gesture.
Reyna: The Valorant Protocol training facility echoed with the metallic clangs of weapons and the energetic chatter of agents preparing for their next mission. In the midst of this controlled chaos, you made your way to the training area, a small, carefully wrapped box in hand. You were about to give Reyna a gift that you hoped would speak to the fierce and proud nature that defined her.
As you approached her, Reyna was in the process of inspecting her weaponry, her eyes gleaming with confidence. "Ready for our training session, cariño?" she called out, her voice bold and assertive. "Absolutely," you replied with a confident smile, holding out the gift. "But first, I have something for you." Reyna arched an eyebrow, a hint of curiosity breaking through her composed demeanor. "A gift, huh? You sure know how to keep things interesting." With a smirk, she accepted the box, her agile fingers making quick work of the wrapping. The vibrant purple necklace inside caught her attention, and for a moment, her typically fierce expression softened. "Well, well. What's this?" Reyna mused, her eyes locked onto the bold piece of jewelry. "Trying to make me look even more intimidating, mi amor?" You chuckled, enjoying the banter. "More like giving you something as fierce and unique as you are."
Reyna examined the necklace, the intensity in her gaze giving way to a quiet acknowledgment. "Gracias!" As she fastened the necklace around her neck, the vivid purple complemented the strength in her presence. The two of you headed into the training session, the necklace becoming an emblem of Reyna's unyielding spirit. Throughout the drills and simulations, Reyna wore the necklace with a sense of pride, a subtle reminder that even the most savage warriors could appreciate a touch of elegance. As the training session concluded and the agents regrouped, Reyna shot you a knowing look, a wordless expression of gratitude that transcended her fierce exterior. The necklace had become more than a gift; it was a symbol of the unique connection between you and the relentless agent known for her savage prowess on the battlefield.
Killjoy: The younger agents of the Valorant protocol came up with the idea of Secret Santa for Christmas. As luck would have it, Killjoy's name was written on your note. And you knew right away what you were going to give her as her Secret Santa! For months, she had been constantly talking about a high-tech component that she needed for one of her new inventions. It was like looking for a needle in a haystack, but sooner or later you found what you were looking for. When the day of anonymous gifting came, you placed the gift right outside her room door early in the morning.
Just as you were having breakfast, Killjoy came into the kitchen with the finely wrapped gift in her hand. Without knowing what was in the package, she was already smiling all over her face. She sat down with you, Jett, and Neon at the table and unwrapped the gift.
As KJ teared open the wrapping paper to find a sleek, high-tech gadget her eyes light up with surprise. "No way! How did they know I wanted this?" she exclaimed, immediately running to her lab.
As you walked past her lab, you could see that Klara was already working on her invention. You leaned against the door frame and asked if she would like to decorate the Christmas tree with you. She jumped right up, ran up to you and took you in her arms. "Thank you," she whispered in your ear, squeezing you even tighter. “For what?”, you asked smiling. “For being the best Secret Santa!”
“No idea, what you are talking about”, you say. Klara just looked at you with genuine appreciation for your attentiveness to her interests.

Five Celebrities Paving the Way Towards a More Sustainable Future
Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern, and Jane Fonda. What do all of these A-list celebrities have in common? They are all paving the way towards a more sustainable future by re-wearing clothes to red carpet events, partnering with brands including True Botanicals and ThredUp, and vowing to no longer buy any new pieces of clothing -- ever!
Tumblr media
Timothée Chalamet
The Hollywood actor who has starred in hit films such as Little Women, Call Me by Your Name, and Lady Bird, has been seen on the red carpet wearing garments such as an exclusive Prada Re-Nylon suit made out of Econyl, a fabric that “uses synthetic waste such as industrial plastic, waste fabric and fishing nets from oceans,” according to the website Good on You.  Chalamet has also consistently worn pieces from previous Stella McCartney collections since December 2019, showing that he values re-wearing garments instead of wearing new pieces for each red carpet event. As one of the most popular celebrities right now, it is evident that Chalamet is well aware of the impacts of fast fashion by making it known that re-wearing garments is the best way to reduce textile waste.
Tumblr media
Emma Watson
The Harry Potter actress and Little Women star has consistently shown that she is on the side of sustainable fashion. For starters, Watson has a separate Instagram account that guides followers on her sustainable fashion journey. The account features headline photos talking about her vow to sustainability practices as well as photos of her at various awards shows wearing sustainable pieces by designers such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry. Earlier this year, Watson partnered with online thrift store ThredUp and has been vocal about her decision on Instagram, stating that "Our closets impact the planet and climate more than you might realize, which is why I am proud to partner with @thredUP to launch their new Fashion Footprint Calculator. They created an easy to use tool, and I’m so excited to help people discover the carbon impact of their wardrobes, and steps you can take to lighten your fashion footprint."
Tumblr media
Jane Fonda
Actress and climate activist Jane Fonda, announced this year at the Oscars that she was going to stop buying new clothes -- not just for a few months, but forever. She made this known at the 2020 Oscar’s, arriving in a six-year-old beaded gown that she had pulled from her closet. Fonda said in an interview with The Independent, “When I talk to people and say, ‘We don’t really need to keep shopping. We shouldn’t look to shopping for our identity. We don’t need more stuff,’ I have to walk the talk. So I’m not buying any more clothes.” Fonda has also been a vocal activist at climate change protests outside the United States Capitol and was arrested multiple times for her activities, feeling pretty darn proud of her efforts.
Tumblr media
Laura Dern
The actress in Marriage Story and Little Women, has made it clear that she is a sustainability advocate. Besides re-wearing designer dresses on the red carpet, Dern has also been vocal about her use of the sustainable skincare brand True Botanicals and stands behind each of its products. According to the True Botanicals website, their “products are developed, produced, packaged, and shipped to you in ways that minimize their impact on the environment.” The brand uses natural and organic ingredients, and its products even come in glass bottles, waving goodbye to plastic packaging.
Tumblr media
Saoirse Ronan, who claimed her spot in Hollywood by starring in the Academy Award-winning film Brooklyn is also a celebrity paving the way towards a more sustainable future. At the 2020 BAFTAs, Ronan was seen wearing a sustainably made Gucci gown on the red carpet, which had been made out of discarded satin fabric scraps. Ronan also wore a stunning gown to the 2020 Oscar’s which was cut from the same black fabric as her BAFTAs dress. As one of the most popular young actresses in Hollywood today, Ronan is truly making an impact by showing that sustainable fashion is beautiful and can look timeless.

Forensic Botany Facts!
Forensic Botany is the application of plant science to the solving of criminal cases. When collecting botanical evidence you should NEVER place the evidence in plastic bags. I'm not sure how you package it though. Although, important, plant evidence alone does not incriminate a suspect but, it does help provide clues.

Emma Watson, the Harry Potter actress and Little Women star has consistently shown that she is on the side of sustainable fashion. They created an easy to use tool, and I’m so excited to help people discover the carbon impact of their wardrobes, and steps you can take to lighten your fashion footprint." Saoirse Ronan, who claimed her spot in Hollywood by starring in the Academy Award-winning film Brooklyn is also a celebrity paving the way towards a more sustainable future. Photo source: Getty/Mike Marsland via PopSugar.com

Laura Dern, the actress in Marriage Story and Little Women, has made it clear that she is a sustainability advocate. Finally, actress and climate activist Jane Fonda, announced this year at the Oscars that she was going to stop buying new clothes -- not just for a few months, but forever. 7 Top Spa-Wellness Trends
By Nancy Trent
Tumblr media
The overarching theme at the September 2019 ISPA (International Spa Association) Conference, held in Las Vegas, was “evolution.” This is the most appropriate description for what the spa industry is experiencing. As the founder of the leading wellness PR firm, I’ve been attending ISPA since it was established. At that time, spas were wrestling with various identities…yoga retreats, fat farms and places to heal. Today, spa has evolved into an accessible place of wellness. My personal philosophy and the mission of my firm is to make wellness applicable to every room of the home or office, every member of the family and every time of day. It was satisfying to see that reflected at ISPA this year, as well as at the ISPA media event prior to the show, where spas showcased the products, services and equipment they feature. A look at the seven trends that took center stage at the show:
CBD
Part of that evolution is spa’s role in the much anticipated, here-to-stay CBD industry. According to the newest 2019 ISPA U.S. Spa Industry Study, the use of cannabidiol (CBD) was the biggest trend in the industry. This study reveals that almost one in five spas has a CBD offering. “What is more interesting is that the study shows that 56% of spas stated they would be adding CBD to their spas in the next two years,” said ISPA President Lynne McNees. “If these numbers ring true, almost 75% of all spas in the U.S. will offer CBD treatments by the end of 2020. It’s incredible how quickly this trend has taken hold in just a few short years. We expect to see many of the traditional brands launch CBD lines to complement their current products.”
While CBD is still in its infancy at the spa, the spa industry is going to become a place of education for it, as it has been for salt and cryotherapy. “The spa experience is so important to health and well-being, and it truly helps people stay centered, whether they are stay-at-home moms, business executives, athletes, students or travelers,” said Julie Duncan, President and Co-Owner of SPAFLASH.
Spa-lovers looking to save time and money on locating salon/spa, and wellness experiences have a new resource at their fingertips, with SPAFLASH, a new consumer shopping website. SPAFLASH a site that is free to join, provides consumers with access to appointment availability, events, value-added experiences, and packages on salon/spa and wellness services throughout greater Dallas/Fort Worth.  It will be now be launching in more states and cities throughout the U.S.
Salt
The biggest spa trend prior to CBD was salt, which has been popping up in new spa spaces in different ways such as salt beds, rooms, lamps and treatments.  “This is a trend [that is here] to stay as salt has so many benefits to offer through detoxification, calming and glowing skin,” said Duncan.
Integrative/functional medicine
Spas are a showroom for wellness. “Carillon Miami Wellness Resort is attracting like-minded partners who want to be a part of the wellness evolution,” said VP of Spa Operations and Co-General Manager, Tammy Pahel. This year, Dr. Vladimir Turovskiy joined Carillion Miami to lead the resort’s new Oriental Medicine division so guests can enhance their well-being with integrative/functional medicine evaluations and oriental medicine diagnoses. Highlights on this spa menu now include popular treatments such as Infrared Sauna with Himalayan Salt, Salt Float Bath Therapy, and Cryoskin slimming and toning. The spa also partnered with Italian wellness brand LEMI, which outfitted the spa with the latest cutting-edge tech including color therapy and a Crystal Quartz Massage Bed. They also have what is now a muscle recovery circuit, which is used mostly by athletes and great for anyone who seeks recovery and relief.
Wellness jewelry
Another emerging category spotted by Duncan is jewelry. “Jewelry that is meaningful and makes your heart smile is representing up to 30% of fashion merchants product mix.”
HiChi Energy Jewelry, designed to protect, elevate and rejuvenate the wearer, had great success at the show, as did River and Sky, two great California brands.
Slow fashion
Spas are becoming a more popular purveyor of fashion in general, and athleisure is right there to slip into. “Spiritual Gangster and Terez is like a uniform for me,” said Duncan.  “People are looking for fashionable, comfortable clothing that has meaning, including a story to tell.”
River & Sky is a good example of spa fashion done well, leading the movement from fast fashion back to slow fashion.  Founder Michael Keefer said, “It’s getting easier for companies to source sustainable fabrics and that’s great because landfills with polyester aren’t going away. Retail customers feel good about it.”
Farm-to-table
Spa goers also expect to experience slow food.  At the Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont where Michelle Adams Sommerville is spa director, most of what guests experience is homegrown. “We’re connecting to animals, nature and land, that is where wellness is going,” explained Sommerville. At The Woodstock Inn, farmers collaborate with the chef; the menu comes before the growing. What doesn’t come from the local historic Billings farm and heirloom garden is grown at the FarmHouse Fresh ranch in Texas.
Farm-to-Table has been a huge trend in the food industry for years, but in recent times, there has been a need for it in the spa scene as well. Farm-to-Treatment is a trend that FarmHouse Fresh has pioneered and one that’s not going anywhere. People care so much about what they put into their bodies that it only makes sense to put freshly harvested ingredients on our skin (our largest organ) which absorbs 60% of products into your bloodstream.  Fresh extracts transform skin, and when they are grown on local U.S. farms—cucumbers, kale, amaranth, tomatoes—they can be harvested, washed and extracted in hours to ensure vitamins are at their peak.
Male-driven goods
ISPA’s Consumer Snapshot Study revealed that men now make up almost half of the customers going to spas. We’ve been predicting more men will be going to the spa for a decade, and now there is evidence it’s finally happening. “The same study also found that 48% of men go to spas intending to purchase retail products. This reveals a huge opportunity for current and new product companies to launch male-driven goods that will attract this growing clientele of spa customers,” said McNeese.
Spotted on the show floor…
We put together a list of some of the other spa trends we spotted for every member of the household.
A new shower ritual: European Spa Source is disrupting the spa industry by creating a totally brand-new category with its ShowerSpa Mist that transforms an ordinary shower into a luxurious, relaxing, aromatherapy experience, allowing you to bring the spa home with you wherever and whenever you take a shower. They’ve just added a new aromatherapy shower spray to their iconic collection and have even introduced a brand-new pillow spray. Trusted and used in spas internationally, it utilizes 100% pure, pharmaceutical-grade eucalyptus—a plant known to open airways, kill mold & bacteria, and help people absorb more oxygen, faster. The spray is then steam distilled for the ultimate steam-room experience that is filtered and chemically analyzed for consistency and quality. It’s hailed by pop star and media mogul Nicole Scherzinger as a product that’s “changed her life.”
Thermal wellness: Spa Revolutions’ Thermal Bliss Collection is the first-to-market instant-thermal wellness massage, skincare, and nail tools. With benefits like a better night’s sleep, improved blood circulation, a full deep cleanse of the body, and a stimulated immune system, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon in any temperature. Treatments include Lava Shells massage which brings Hawaiian heat to you sans the volcano, stimulates tissue and allows ultimate relaxation to seep through. It’s also easy on the spa with no wait time or sanitation issues and better pressure points and leverage through the shell’s edge. The company also introduced the ThermaFusion Facial Mask, a one-of-a-kind moist heat-infusing mask that gives skin the hydration it craves by bringing the heat and opening up the pores without steam.
Mostly widely known for PerfectSense Paraffin, the new standard in paraffin-based treatments with its mobile, electricity-free heating, aromatherapy, and exclusive nourishment blend formula, the company just introduced Paraffin Anywhere to nourish skin in just three-minutes flat.
Beeswax: For dry, cracked winter skin, we suggest people try BeeSpa. Developed from a secret recipe from a beekeeper’s grandmother, all-natural BeeSpa works quickly to provide relief to cracked and dry skin on your hands, feet, and everywhere in-between. Beeswax carries antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that are essential to healing and preventing dry, chapped, or cracked skin.
Probiotic skin wellness: People should be using probiotic skincare year-round. There are millions of microorganisms (a vast variety of bacteria, viruses, and fungi) currently living on your skin. Research shows that some of these microorganisms actually promote skin health, and reinforce your skin’s natural barrier against harmful bacteria, balance your skin’s pH levels, and may even protect against skin cancer. But the use of harsh facial cleansers and antibacterial products strip your skin of its “good” bacteria and other microorganisms, damaging the skin’s natural ecosystem known as your “microbiome.” As a legacy brand and leading innovator since 1871, Columbia Skincare uses prebiotics, probiotics, botanicals, and peptides in a science-backed formula that helps people heal their skin by supporting microbiome health while stimulating the natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid to activate the skin’s natural healing process. Columbia Skincare Probiotic products are proven to speed up skin renewal, improve the cohesiveness of skin cells, reinforce the barrier, and amplify skin’s production of antibiotic-like chemicals. The strains, protein, and stem cells in Columbia Skincare products were selected based on years of research that determined these ingredients together potentiate and become a new complex, unique formulation—blending science and nature for supreme wellness and skin health. Columbia Skincare’s proprietary technology assures the efficacy as well as the safety of their products when used as recommended. Renowned dermatologist Dr. Whitney Bowe claims Columbia Skincare products are the best for “Sensitive, Irritated, and Rosacea-Prone Skin” and recommends it for use after chemical peels, laser treatments, and micro-needling, or to offset the uncomfortable effects of retinoids and exfoliants.
Fun, functional and better-for-you sun protection: Wallaroo Hat Company, the innovative Australian inspired headwear brand that combines fashion and long-lasting sun protection, featured its newest collection of hats. Carkella by Wallaroo is a private-label brand for the spa, golf, travel, and resort industries. Carkella features UPF 30+ and 50+ rated hats with interchangeable magnetic badges that are ideal for individualized branding. The Carkella line affords a new opportunity to increase brand identity with customizable hats perfect for destinations, tournaments, industry events and private parties. An embossed metal badge attaches to a hidden magnet inside the trim of each hat. The badges can be customized using any artwork, logo, or one of Carkella’s signature designs.
A lot of times people forget that you must protect the scalp from sun as well. In fact, 10% of skin cancer develops on the scalp. Scalpforce provides a reliable solution to stay safe in the outdoors with a scalp and hair spray-on tonic free of toxic ingredients.
Long hailed as the “it” eco-luxe brand, Soleil Toujours continues to revolutionize sun protection and daily skin care. Their new “no makeup” cosmetics line combines the trendy minimalist makeup look with their no-frills, all-organic sun protection formula for a face you can wear with confidence.
No more invasions: “What started out as an attempt to reduce cellulite became a go-to for recovery. CellFit is so non-invasive it is actually enjoyable,” said co-founder Polina Levant. The technology doesn’t pull or stretch the skin in treatment, it uses compression and vibration instead. It is multipurpose and painless and can be done the same day of an event, game, runway show or red carpet. It’s full spectrum, which means it treats the entire body, including feet! The company says it helps with skin toning, lymphatic drainage, oxygenation, increase in microcirculation, reduction of cellulite and flushes out lactic acid.
Safety first: Now more than ever, business owners are taking preemptive action to prevent their companies from coming under fire for inappropriate action. Spas and massage parlors are no exception. That’s why Stay Saife developed MARIA. Their newest AI technology places MARIA, a virtual assistant, in the room to watch behavior and actions in real time through infrared light detection without recording or invading privacy issues.
An epigenetic approach to peptides: Peptides are quickly emerging as the leading ingredient in anti-aging skin regimens. HydroPeptide takes its age-defying formula one step further with the science of Epigenetics. According to the company, the skincare line is packed with powerful gene-signaling that tell genes to shape up and get glowing.
Affirmations from your feet: The concept of Stickybesocks seems pretty obvious: socks with no-slip grippers on the bottoms of each pair that make yoga, Pilates, and other forms of exercise and movement that much easier. But there’s more to it! Each pair of socks from this female-founded company comes with a daily affirmation printed on the bottom of the foot alongside the no-slip grips. So whether you want to “Be Unique,” “Be Brave,” or simply “Be You,” this brand makes sure you start your day out on the right foot.
Personal pain relief: This is an unforgettable product and another must-have spa innovation. Following a motorcycle accident, the creator of Theragun decided to build a tool that could help accelerate muscle repair and recovery. Constructed from a lifetime of chiropractic practice, the Theragun is the go-to tool for percussive therapy, which relieves tension in the body’s soft tissue to provide effective pain relief.
More from ISPA:
With all the great products and services available, the biggest issue affecting the spa industry is the shortage of qualified employees. The industry currently has over 30,000 unfilled positions with properties actively looking to increase their staffing levels to meet demand. ISPA is committed to tackling this issue by both recruiting new employees to this rewarding career path and educating spa managers on how to retain their existing employees.
This spring, ISPA will host the ISPA Talent Symposium on April 15, 2020. This event will be the first of its kind for the industry and will highlight energetic and innovative approaches to solving workforce challenges while equipping attendees with tools to retain employees in today’s competitive marketplace. Evaluation of Quality and Food Safety Aspects of Apricot Turkel in Accelerated Conditions
Authored by Narendra Deo Tripathi
Abstract
The study was conducted on Apricot Turkel stored in accelerated conditions i.e. Temperature 40+2 degree cell. and Humidity at 75+5% to evaluate its impact on apricot Turkel in terms of parameters like taste, odour, appearance, moisture content, insect infestation, total ash, acid insoluble ash, oleic acid ,aflatoxins and microbiological parameters like total plate count , yeast & mould, E.Coli, Coliform, s.aureus, which help to determine the fact how it affect food safety aspects of product . The study was executed on retail pack of the product, available in the good retail store. Prior to initiate the study packaging integrity was assuredprecautionally. As a result of result of study of exposure in accelerated conditions and periodical analysis of Apricot Turkel at it was concluded that disintegration in the product started organoleptically, chemically and microbiologically, and there was significant alteration in the initial parameters and parameters post to the exposure in accelerated conditions.
Keywords: Accelerated conditions; Temperature; Humidity; Aflatoxins; Moisture Content
Introduction
Apricot is full of fragrance and sweet, golden-orange apricots are another summer season delicacies of Asian origin. These much-prized fruits were first brought to the Europe by Greeks, who named them as “golden eggs of the sun.”Botanically, the fruit is closely related to peaches and nectarine; sharing with them in the broader Rosaceae family of fruit-trees in the genus; Prunus. Scientific name: Prunus armenia. Today, some of the chief producing regions of this fruit are Turkey, Iran, Italy, France, Spain, Syria, Greece, and China. Apricot season lasts from May until September. Buy fresh, well ripe fruits that feature uniform golden-orange color and rich aroma. Avoid those with pale yellow color as they were picked too soon. Ripened apricots are delicate and should be handled with care. Store them inside the refrigerator in tray set at high relative humidity. Use them as early as possible [1,2].Although the apricot is native to a climate region with cold winters, it can grow in mediterranean conditions if enough cool winter weather allows a proper dormancy. A dry climate is good for fruit maturation. The tree is slightly more cold-hardy than the peach, tolerating winter temperatures as cold as −30 °C (−22 °F) or lower if healthy. A limiting factor in apricot culture is spring frosts: They tend to flower very early (in early March in western Europe), meaning spring frost can kill the flowers. Furthermore, the trees are sensitive to temperature changes during the winter season. In China, winters can be very cold, but temperatures tend to be more stable than in Europe and especially North America, where large temperature swings can occur in winter. Hybridization with the closely related to Siberian apricot; hardy to −50 °C (−58 °F) but with less palatable fruit offers options for breeding more cold-tolerant plants. Apricots are rich source of fibers and therefore good for smooth bowel movements [1,2]. It is often recommended to patients who are regularly suffering from constipation due to its laxative properties.Apricots are also good source of minerals i.e calcium, Phosphorous, manganese, iron and copper, all plays certain role in the creation of bone matter. Apricots have unique natural therapeutic qualities as its regular usage protect heart from vide range of diseases including atherosclerosis, heart attack strokes. The apricot juices very useful to the patients suffering from fever as it provide necessary vitamins, minerals and calories to body, it also helps in detoxification of system and organs.Apricots are excellent sources of vitamin-A, and carotenes. 100 g fresh fruits carry 1926 IU or 64% of daily-required levels of vitamin A. Both of these compounds are known to have antioxidant properties and are essential for vision. Vitamin-A is also required for maintaining healthy mucusa and skin. Consumption of natural fruits rich in carotenes helps protect the body from lung and oral cavity cancers. Fresh fruits contain vitamin-C, another natural anti-oxidant. Vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals. The total anti-oxidant or ORAC value of raw apricots is 1115 umol TE/100 g. Much of this in these fruits comes from some important health promoting flavonoid poly phenolic antioxidants such as lute in, zeaxanthin and beta cryptoxanthin. Altogether, these compounds act as protective scavengers against oxygen-derived free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) that play a role in aging, cancers and various disease processes [3,4].Area of studyThe study was conducted in the National capital region (NCR), in association with companies dealing in dry fruits specifically in Apricot Turkel. These fruits are imported and reprocessed and repacked hygienically before keeping in supply chain for distribution in the market for consumer usage.Sampling: Packed samples were picked up from the processing and repacking site. During sampling standard quality practices were followed and total 05 samples were collected from five different lots of same batch number. The study was conducted in year 2014-2015.Inspection of samples: The samples were packed in Thermacoal trays, and finally shrink-wrapped using poly film. The integrity of samples were checked thoroughly. As a result of inspection:Pin whole : No pin whole on the poly film, as observed through naked eyes and magnifying glassesSealing condition: Sealing was in good state.Damage patches : Thermacoal Tray was found intact with poly filmPackage integrity : Compactly packedPackaging Material composition: The packing material was composed of poly having thickness of 20 micron. The packing material was uniaxial stretchable which can be wrapped easily on packs even without help of shrink Tunnel.Process flowA. Requirement for study: Adequately packed samples of Apricot Turkel, Humidity chamber to maintain accelerated exposure conditions i.e. Temperature 40+2degree cel. And Relative Humidity 75+ 5%. Hot air oven, Muffel furnace and functional microbiological set up to assure timely microbiological analysis. The availability of consumable chemicals and technical analyst were assured prior to startup of the experimental study. The exposure of sample was monitored sincerely to assure that there is no Fluctuation in temperature and humidity. Walk-In Stability chamber make Thermo lab was used for exposure study. The exposure of sample was monitored sincerely to assure that there is no Fluctuation in temperature and humidity, however the equipment was software based and there was auto recording of temperature and humidity and it was monitored through system.B. Analysis: The analyses of samples were conducted at two stages. The first stage analysis was conducted before exposure of product in accelerated conditions i.e. called as initial analysis, followed by analysis at defined interval. The parameters covers under analysis are as tabulated in Analytical matrix (Table 1).C. Physical and Chemical Analysis: Taste & odour of the product was analyzed through organoleptic method of analysis for sensory team was built based on Indian standards Guidelines, prior to startup of analysis the sensory panelist were validated. The results were recorded systematically to conclude the final results. Appearance of the product was also analyzed through sensory panel. The insect infestation in the product was analyzed through visual inspection. Pertaining to the determination of moisture content product (5.0 gram sample) was exposed at 130-133 degree cel. For two hours and reading was noted post to the constant three successive readings. Total ash was determined by using Muffle furnace for which 5.0 gram sample quantity was exposed at 800 degree cel. For four hours, followed by cooling of sample in desiccators and weighing using calibrated weighing balance, till constant readings of samples.D. Calculation:Total Ash, percent by mass= 100(M2-M1) M1-MWhere,M= Mass of the empty dish, in gM1= mass of the dish with the material taken for test, in g and M2=mass of the dish with the ash, in gThe similar steps were followed as in case Total ash for the determination of acid insoluble ash, additional step was dissolving and drying of estimated ash content in hydrochloric acid. The calculation was done based on the formula as under:Calculation:(Weight of crucible with residue – weight of empty crucible) x 100Acid insoluble Ash % = ---------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------Weight of the sampleThe measurement of Oleic acid was done in terms of peroxide value (POV).The test sample was first dissolved in mixture of chloroform and acetic acid(2:3). By flowing nitrogen gas through the sample to dispel residual oxygen, add potassium iodide, and then titrate free iodine with 0.01mol/L sodium thiosulphate. The endpoint was determined by the maximum inflexion point on titration curve. POV is calculated from titration volume of sodium thiosulphate. I2 + 2Na2S2O3 → Na2S4O6 + 2NaIThe analysis of Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2) was carried out using LC/MS/MS,Aflatoxins (AFs) belong to a closely related group of secondary fungal metabolites. These mycotoxins are severely toxic metabolites produced mainly by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus, and exposure to them can cause cancer in humans and livestock. Based on epidemiological evidence, Aflatoxins have been classified as human liver carcinogens by the World Health Organization and by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Thus, accurate determination of AFs is required to avoid human. Each of the standard reagents, Aflatoxin G2 (AFG2), Aflatoxin G1 (AFG1), Aflatoxin B2 (AFB2) and Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), was dissolved in acetonitrile at 1 mg/mL and was stored at 4 °C in the dark until use. To prepare the working standard for LC/ MS analysis, each AF stock solution was equally pipetted and transferred to a vial, and it was then diluted with the mobile phase. The final concentration of each AF was 1 ng/mL.The extraction and cleanup steps for Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2) were carried out according to validated methods. Briefly, 20 g fine ground sample was poured into a 200-mL Erlenmeyer flask, followed by adding 40 ml acetonitrile-water (9:1, v/v) for corn and cereals. After shaking for 30 min, the mixed solution was centrifuged for 5 min at 1,650 g. The supernatant obtained was filtered through a glass microfiber GF/B grade filter. The required conditions of LC/MS/MS was maintained till the completion of analysis of product .The method of quantification was applied to determine the quantitative value of Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1, G2) [5-7].Microbiological Analysis:Prior proceeding of microbiological analysis the calibration of equipment like incubator and BOD incubator was assured IS 5402: 2012was used for determination of bacterial count in the product. This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 4833:2003 ‘Microbiology of food and animal feeding stuffs, Horizontal method for the enumeration of microorganisms, Colony-count technique at 30 °C’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Food Hygiene, Safety Management and Other Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council. Sample preparation was done as per procedure of ISO 6887 and specified conditions were maintained [8,9].Plate Count Agar Media was used having composition i.e. enzymatic digestion of casein, Yeast Extract, Glucose anhydrous and Agar water. The pouring technique was used for plating and followed the incubation of samples in incubator at 30 degree cel.+1 deg. Cel. For the period of 72 h+ 3 h. Post to the completion of incubation duration Petri dishes were taken out from the incubator and number of colonies were observed using colony count apparatus, followed by reporting of results. The repeatability and reproducibility we reassured before providing confirmatory results [8,9].The analysis of yeast and mould was conducted using IS 5403: 1999(Reaffirmed: 2005) Yeast and mould is the microorganism which form colonies in selective medium of nutrients at 25+1 deg.cel. During preparation of dilution guideline IS- 10232 was followed .Yeast Extract-Dextrose-Chloramphenicol- Agar medium was used during analysis. The components of medium were dissolved in the water by boiling, pH was adjusted as per requirement i.e. 6.6.Dispensed the agar medium into suitable container and followed by its sterilization at 121+1 deg. Cel. The glass wares were subjected for dry sterilization at 170 deg. cel. For one hr. The sample (1 gram) and medium (15 ml) were poured in petri dishes, followed by protection with inverted plates and incubated in incubator already having set temperature of 25+1 deg. Cel. The counting of colonies were started after 3, 4, and 5th days. The number of colonies of each days were noted and final reading was taken after completion of 5th days i.e. 120 hrs of incubation. The analysis of E.Coli was conducted as per IS standard, IS: 5887 (Part I) -1976 and IP-14. The sampling of product was done using methodology of IS: 5404-1969 [8,9]. The typical Escherichia coli is aerobic, Gram-negative rod, motile, fermenting lactose with the production of gas and usually produces smooth, non-mucoidcoloni’es on solid media. However, there are nonlactose fermenting strains of Esch. Coli and some strains produce mucoid colonies. The organism exhibit the characteristics as below:Hydrogen sulphide ( HzS ) production when done in TSI medium: NegativeUrease: NegativeIndole : PositiveMethyl red : PositiveVoges-Proskauer test : NegativeSucrose : Acid and gas production variableSalicin : Acid and gas production variable, andGrowth at 44°C in Mac Conkey broth medium: Positive with acid and gas.Took Pipette 1 ml sample of the three Mac Conkey broth tube aseptically & Plug the tube with cotton plug and keep in an incubator at 35 ±2oC for 48 hours. Observed the tubes for any acid and gas formation. If Acid and gas formation in at least two tubes out of three constitutes a positive presumptive test. Further for confirmation of the result streak loop full sample from the positive tubes of presumptive test & incubate the plates in an inverted position at 35 ±2oC for 24 hrs. After incubation observed the nature of colonies formed. Presence of Escherichia coli indicated by the colonies with a typical green metallic sheen.Escherichia coli=X MPN/gThe analysis of Coliform was conducted using standard IS 15185:2002(ISO 9308-1:2000). Coliform bacteria is capable of forming colonies aerobically at 36+3deg. on a selective and differential lactose culture medium with the production of acid within (21 + 3) h. It is lactose positive and oxidase negative bacteria. The sample was prepared using filtration, inoculation and isolation media. During preparation of sample the guidelines of ISO: 8199 and ISO: 6887-1 were followed. The prepared sample was kept ambient temperature i.e. not more than 25 degree cel. in dark condition for two hrs only. After completion of filtration the membrane was placed on TTC agar plate under incubation for 21+3 hrs for oxidase test and conclusion of final results. The analysis of S. Mix and incubate at 35-37oC for 24hrs.Primary and Coagulate Test: The growth was observed, followed by streaking a portion of the medium on the surface of Vogel- Johnson agar or Mannitol-salt agar or Baird-Parker agar. Incubate the plates in an inverted position at 35 ±2°C for 18 to 24 hours. Post to the incubation the colonies conforming description test were forwarded for coagulase test As result of coagulase test no coagulation in any degree was observed, It showed that Staphylococcus aureus is absent in the product. (Tables 2 to 6) (Graphs 1 to 4)
Discussion and Conclusion
The experimental study conducted on Apricot Turkel shows that there are significant changes when it is exposed in accelerated conditions i.e. at 40 degree cel. Temperature and 75 % humidity. The initial characteristics of products stand within the range of standards of quality and food safety and product remain safe for consumption. The analysis shows that the results of parameters are changing with the exposure duration even at constant temperature and humidity There is 132.8% w/w alteration from initial to 60th days of exposure in moisture content .Total ash is altering from 2.13% w/w to 46.4 %w/w, whereas acid insoluble ash and oleic acid contents are changing 0.05%w/w to 38.5% and 0.39 %w/w to 557.14 %(permissible limit of oleic acid i.e. in terms of acidity of extracted fat 1.25% maximum, ref FSSAR-2011) respectively[10,11]. Apart of changes in chemical parameters microbiological parameters i.e. Total Plate count and Yeast and Mould are getting altered significantly (Figures 1 & 2).The reported Total plate count in the sample at 60th day stand as 85,80,000 cfu/ g whereas permissible limit of Total Plate count as per FSSAR-2011,Not more than 40,000 cfu/g. Yeast and mould count was reported on 60th day ,37,65,000 cfu/ g, the permissible limit for the same as per FSSAR-2011 stand as Not more than 100 count/g. Based the data interpretation it is concluded that storage of Apricot Turkel at Higher temperature and humidity is not safe for product [10-15]. It is clear that higher temperature and humidity play significant role to alter the chemical composition and microbiological load of the product, which finally make product unsafe for consumption.

It is a truth universally acknowledged among virologists that a single virus, carrying a full set of genes, must be in want of a cell. A virus is just a collection of genes packaged into a capsule. It infiltrates and hijacks a living cell to make extra copies of itself. Those daughter viruses then bust out of their ailing host, and each finds a new cell to infect. Rinse, and repeat. This is how all viruses, from Ebola to influenza, are meant to work.
But Stéphane Blanc and his colleagues at the University of Montpellier have shown that one virus breaks all the rules.
Faba bean necrotic stunt virus, or FBNSV for short, infects legumes, and is spread through the bites of aphids. Its genes are split among eight segments, each of which is packaged into its own capsule. And, as Blanc’s team has now shown, these eight segments can reproduce themselves, even if they infect different cells. FBNSV needs all of its components, but it doesn’t need them in the same place. Indeed, this virus never seems to fully comes together. It is always distributed, its existence spread between among capsules and split among different host cells.
“This is truly a revolutionary result in virology,” says Siobain Duffy of Rutgers University, who wasn’t involved in the study. “Once again, viruses prove that they’ve had the evolutionary time to try just about every reproductive strategy, even ones that are hard for scientists to imagine.”
[Read: ]How viruses cooperate to defeat CRISPR
FBNSV is one of several “multipartite viruses” that split their genes among different capsules. These oddballs were first discovered in the 1940s, and though they account for about 20 percent of known viral species, they’re still rather obscure. Blanc thinks that’s because they almost always infect plants and fungi, and only two have been found in animals—one in a moth and one in a mosquito. “I lecture on several virology courses, and even people in Ph.D. programs haven’t heard of them,” he laments. “They’re everywhere, but because they’re mainly on plants, no one cares.”
These viruses have always been baffling, even to virologists who knew about them. Everyone assumed that they could only reproduce if all the segments infected the same host cell. But the risk of losing a piece, and so dooming the others, skyrockets as the number of pieces goes up. In 2012, two researchers calculated that the odds of successfully getting every segment in the same cell become too low with anything more than three or four segments. FBNSV, with its eight segments, “should never have evolved,” Blanc says. Its mere existence suggests “that something must be wrong in the conceptual framework of virology.”
Perhaps, he realized, these viruses don’t actually need to unite their segments in the same host cell. “If theory was saying that this is impossible, maybe the viruses just don’t do it,” he says. “And once we had this stupid idea, testing it was very easy.”
His colleagues Anne Sicard and Elodie Pirolles labeled pairs of FBNSV’s genes with molecules that glowed in different colors—red for one segment, for example, and green for another. Then, they simply looked down a microscope to see whether the colors overlapped in the same cells. They almost never did. When the team first saw that, “we were jumping and running around the lab,” Blanc says. “But we were also scared about it being a [mistake]. We took six years to verify it.”
For example, they showed that the levels of one segment aren’t tied to the levels of another, as you would expect if they were replicating in the same host cell. Instead, in any one infected plant, the different segments seem to accumulate at different rates.
But that discovery raised another problem. Each of the eight segments carries a gene with its own vital role. One makes the proteins that copy the virus’s DNA once it gets inside its hosts. Another creates the proteins that form the virus’s capsules. See the problem? If these segments end up in different cells, the DNA-copying one shouldn’t be able to make capsules, the capsule-making gene shouldn’t be able to copy itself, and both of them would be stuck.
That doesn’t happen, the team discovered, because the virus’s genes might be stuck in neighboring cells, but the proteins created by those genes can move. The capsule-making protein can get into a cell with the DNA-copying gene, and cover it. The DNA-making protein can get into a cell with the capsule-making gene, and copy it. Think of the eight segments as factories in different cities, shipping assembly robots to one another so that each site can manufacture its own separate product. It is within this expansive trade network that the distributed virus truly exists.
[Read: ]The oldest virus ever sequenced comes from a 7,000-year-old tooth
It’s not clear how this network operates, but many scientists have found that plant proteins can voyage between cells, even over long distances from root to shoot. Some researchers who study multipartite viruses have even suggested that they could make use of these botanical highways. But Blanc’s team has now found clear and unambiguous evidence that they do. Perhaps, he says, “this is why multipartite viruses don’t exist so much in animals. Maybe it’s harder for our proteins to travel between cells.”
“The work is very important … and very carefully done,” says Marilyn Roossinck of Pennsylvania State University. For decades, she has been studying a different multipartite virus that affects cucumbers, and though she has seen some of the patterns that Blanc’s team did, “these were never published, as their significance wasn’t clear,” she says.
“This report challenges a fundamental assumption of virology,” adds Rodrigo Almeida of the University of California at Berkeley, who studies plant diseases. “I am not aware of any similar example in biology, where genetic information appears to be split among host cells.”
The closest example I can think of exists in cicadas. These noisy insects rely on a bacterium called Hodgkinia, which lives inside their cells and provides them with nutrients. But this one bacterium has fractured into several daughter species, each of which contains just a few of Hodgkinia’s full set of genes. None of these partial microbes can survive on its own; they only function as a set. But these daughter species are all still locked within the same cell, so they’re not truly distributed as the virus is. They are also problematic: If any of them were to disappear, the rest would also die out, as would their cicada host. Hodgkinia’s fragmented existence is a looming disaster—“a slow-motion extinction event,” according to John McCutcheon, who described it.
By contrast, multipartite viruses are clearly very successful, so their bizarre distributed existence must have some benefit. And Blanc thinks he knows what that might be.
His team has shown that when FBNSV infects a plant, the frequency of each segment is very predictable. Some of them are common and others are rare, but their relative proportions are constant, at least within a given species of plant. If the virus infects a different plant species, those proportions change—to a different, but still predictable, pattern. Blanc calls these “genome formulas”—ratios of genes that FBNSV uses for different hosts.
The virus’s use of these formulas reminds Blanc of the ways in which animals and other complex organisms adapt to different environments by tweaking the numbers of important genes. In very rough terms, the more copies you have, the more effectively that gene can do its thing. But viruses are tiny entities, whose capsules only have room for small genomes. There’s not enough space for them to just wantonly double their gene counts.
Multipartite viruses don’t have to. If they want to emphasize the use of a certain gene, they just need to get the segment carrying it into more host cells. “This lifestyle allows the virus to adjust its gene copy number without mutating,” Blanc says. It’s as if FBNSV has found a way to have the flexibility of a much larger and more complex genome, while still keeping the unflinching efficiency of a virus.

These discoveries could also change our understanding of other more traditional viruses. Influenza’s genome is split into eight segments, and unlike FBNSV, all of these are packaged into the same capsule. Researchers typically assume that every capsule contains the full octet, but in 2013, Christopher Brooke of the University of Illinois showed that 90 percent of them are missing at least one segment. Influenza virus “exists primarily as a swarm of complementation-dependent, semi-infectious virions,” Brooke wrote.
Three years later, a different team showed that the same is true for the virus behind Rift Valley fever: Only a minority contain all three of the virus’s gene segments, and most are missing one. “Perhaps the boundary between these viruses and the multipartite ones isn’t so clear,” Blanc says.
Many viruses also produce capsules called “defective interfering particles,” which … well, the clue’s in the name. They’re defective because, for some reason, they’ve lost part of their full genome. They’re interfering because, though they’re defective, their parent viruses will still make copies of them, flooding the total pool of capsules with noninfective deadbeats. “These things have been known for a century, and they’ve long been considered as junk,” Blanc says. “But they are very efficiently maintained in any viral infection. Maybe they can profit from the system we have identified.”
