Watching Peter Murphy within almost breathing distance while performing with Bauhaus on their first US gig at Tier 3, New York on Sept. 5, 1980, in support of their debut album 'In the Flat Field', as captured by Eugene Merinov.
Upon arriving at The Iroquois Hotel in NY for their first US tour, the band was all fired up and excited to hit the town for some NY nightclubbing, all but one who preferred to have a quiet night in: Daniel Ash decided to grab a quiet drink in the hotel bar, where, to his astonishment, got to meet two of his all-time heroes, Mick Ronson & Iggy Pop, and also got invited up to his room for a little party. He eventually handed them a copy of their single, “Terror Couple Kill Colonel”. Iggy actually attended their gig at Danceteria one week later and as Kevin Haskins recalls in his book 'Bauhaus Undead':
"...A few numbers in and I hear a heckler yelling loudly above the music and can hear Peter giving back as good as he’s getting. As Peter moved to the right, I looked for the heckler and saw a guy jostling about down the front wearing a motorcycle jacket. It was Iggy Pop! The gig continued with Iggy and Pete launching verbal missiles at each other throughout our set. Afterwards, Iggy came backstage and congratulated us on a great show! He explained that he had a driver outside, and told him he’d only be about 10 minutes, but as we were so good he decided to stay the entire set ... then he was off to some “dark and dangerous S&M club,” and then disappeared into the night..."
***This remarkable photo was sourced from the FB page of former hc punk vocalist Eddie Morgan (Condemned To Death, Ice 9, Balls of Steel), who is also captured in this one (the second kid off the wall), but there are more pix from that particular Bauhaus gig on Eugene Merinov's Flickr photostream.

Battle of Cowpens
The Battle of Cowpens (17 January 1781) was a decisive battle in the southern theater of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). It saw a detachment of Continental soldiers and Patriot militia under Brigadier General Daniel Morgan defeat a British force under Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton. The battle helped lead to the end of British domination in the American South.
Background
On 2 December 1780, Major General Nathanael Greene rode into the American military camp at Charlotte, North Carolina. A 38-year-old Quaker from Rhode Island, Greene had been entrusted by General George Washington to take charge of the remnants of the Southern Department of the Continental Army after its disastrous defeat at the Battle of Camden (16 August 1780). What Greene found at Charlotte was less an army than a rugged gathering of 1,400 disheartened men. The troops were undersupplied, underfed, and lacked clothing. Several men sat huddled around the campfires practically naked, with only rags or blankets to protect them from the elements. Many of the soldiers stirred themselves only to plunder the surrounding countryside for food, and the officers had grown jaded enough not to care. It was a ghastly display of dejection that must have reminded Greene of the state of the main army at Valley Forge three winters before.
It was not hard to see why the army was in such a depressed state. The Americans had suffered nothing but defeat since the British had first invaded the American South in late 1778. Having grown frustrated with their unsatisfactory military campaigns in the North, the British had shifted their focus to the South, which was rumored to be replete with Loyalists as well as the source of much of the United States' commercial wealth. The capture of the South, it was believed, would not only cut the United States in two but also cripple its ability to keep fighting. The British implemented their so-called 'southern strategy' in December 1778 by seizing Savannah, Georgia; the following year, a Franco-American attempt to retake the city failed, and Georgia became the first state to fall back under British control. In May 1780, the British won the Siege of Charleston, taking the largest and most important city in the entire South. Under the command of Lord Charles Cornwallis, the British then set about pacifying the rest of South Carolina. This sparked a bloody regional civil war, as the state's Patriot and Loyalist militias brutalized one another in the South Carolina backcountry. The southern Continental Army, under General Horatio Gates, had tried to retake the state but had been decisively defeated at Camden.
Now, as Greene took over command of the depleted army from Gates, he realized the monumental task that rested upon his shoulders. Should he fail, there would be nothing to prevent Cornwallis from conquering North Carolina and Virginia, completing the British 'southern strategy'. Greene was a cautious commander who pursued a 'Fabian strategy'. That is, he tried to avoid fighting any pitched battle that he was not sure he could win, instead wearing the enemy down through attrition and guerilla fighting, striking only when he spotted vulnerability. The Patriot militias already operating in South Carolina could serve this purpose well; Greene hoped that they could keep the British distracted long enough for him to whip his army into shape and maybe find new recruits. However, he would need someone he could rely on to go down into South Carolina and keep the militias supplied and organized. As it happened, Greene already had just the man in mind.

Based on Salma Hayek's story about getting another dog... thought it was cute!
Dean Winchester woke up to the sound of whimpering. He felt a massive wight on his legs and back. He groaned looking over his shoulder at the massive fawn brown and black German Shepard, eyes open and ears perked, it's muzzle nestled between his shoulder blades.
"G'mornin' Colonel." Dean mumbled to the shepherd. The dog wagged his tail and stood to sniff Dean over. The wight on his legs lifted and he was attacked by a huge English mastiff puppy, licking and flopping on his head. "Sarge... no..." Dean mumbled around a mouth full of a massive puppy toung. Colonels face screwed up into a snarl and his long shepherd muzzle hit the clumsy pup on the neck as a low growl started in his chest.
"Sargent, listen to Colonel!" The firm voice of his partner sounded from beside him and the puppy stopped and went over to her.
The young woman sat up rubbed her face tieredly and pushed her wild main of curls out of her face. Dean rolled over and smiled at her, as Colonel and Sarg nuzzled into him and settled down again. She looked down at him from her seated position and smiled ear to ear. It still caused Dean's heart to skip a beat.
"Good morning handsome." She cooed leaning over to his him then diverting at.the last moment to kiss Colonel and Sarge on the muzzles.
         "I hate you." Dean grumbled.
"No you dont!" She kissed his nose then nearly lept out of bed. "... let's go potty." She sang tying a wrap around skirt on. All the dogs on the bed followed her out. Sarge stumbled over Dean and fell on his family Jewls before launching off the bed and falling again on a pile of clothes on the floor.
"Fuck!" Dean wheezed. Once the pain subsided he got up and flowed the sound of chaos outside. She was stoaking the fire from the night before. She had eggs, bacon, and toast cooking, with saute peppers onions and mushrooms. The smell was amazing.
All the dogs and various animals where running and barking in the huge fenced in yard, water dogs were swimming in the in ground pool, older dogs lounging in the sun and small terriers digging in a sand pit.
"Good morning Dean!" She smiled pouring him coffee in his mug. Dean smiled and accepted the hot drink and kiss from her. "Love you." She whispered. Dean smiled and hugged her tightly burying his face in her neck for a moment.
"Love you too." He mumbled in return. Cold water showered them.
"Oh Flynn not next to the food you adlebrained nut!" She scolded her old golden retriever, chasing the dog off before taking the stick in his mouth and throwing it into the pool.
Dean heard wings flapping closer to him, and prepared for what was coming. A brilliantly colored scarlet macaw landed on his shoulder as he sipped his coffee. The bird gently nibbled his ear.
"Baby, is there anything Captain Morgan here can eat?" Dean asked.
"Yeah the big tropical bowl on the table she answered.
"Good morning everyone!" Jess exclaimed walking out with a bowl of fruit. Captain Morgan, and Patron (a white Cockatiel) flew to her to get some fruit. She put some in the bowls on thier stand. "Dani dear, can you please call Kraken and Jack Daniel's down." Jess asked. Dani turned from stirring the food.
"Get your fethered butts down here!" She ordered. A raven and a African greu flew down one landing on her head and the other her hand. "Jimminy crickets!" She mumbled putting them on thier stand. "Foods up Sam! You're right no time." Dani greeted. Sam unhooked the leash from a Malinois and a husky.
"I love you but don't touch me." Jess smiled at Sam pecking his lips and giving him cold water and a bowl of fruit. Sam smiled at her as he caught his breath from his run.
The four sat and ate, discussing business, hunting and life.
"Bobby just texted..." Dani stated. "Oh he needs my help on a case in south Dakota..." she stated reading.
"When are we leaving?" Dean asked.
"I am leaving by myself with Edris as soon as I'm packed." Dani stated, "You're on injured leave still my love... you don't have full range of motion in your shoulder yet." She explained.
"I'm fine! Jess tell'er I'm fine." Dean complained. Jess shook her head.
"Dani is right Dean. Plus as Co owner of Winchester International, you need to put on a good example for your hunters... and rest up completely."
          "Sammy..."
"No, I agree with the girls Dean... rest up." Sam replied.
"Well fuck me then I guess." Dean grumbled crossing his arms.
"I will when I get back in a week." Dani toast kissing his cheek as she walked away.
         "Promise?" Dean called after her.
"Promise." She replied as some of the dogs followed her inside.
"Hey Dani!" Dean called. She turned back in response, "No more dogs! No more animals... I don't care... just... no more ok." He stated firmly.
"Yeah I know." She shrugged. Dean sighed as the wet Colonel walked up and shook on him. "You're lucky I like you and love her." He said to the dog. Colonel cocked his head to the side and wagged his tail. Dean could still clearly hear/imagine the German Shepards laugh in his head from the time thier minds had been melded together.
🐕🐈‍⬛🦜
Dani gently stroked the the big Grey head wolf dog that had saved her bacon and taken on the werewolf pack that Bobby's, his hunters, herself and Edris (the Malinois) took on. It had taken a bite for her and she was nursing it back to health.
Bobby walked into the guest room bearing the bowl of chicken meat and rice for the dog to eat.
"How's he doing?" Bobby asked gently petting the dogs head.
"So much better..." Dani responded, as the wolf dog ate from her hand.
"So what's his name gonna be?" Bobby asked.
"Bane... as in wolves bane." She smirked. Bobby shook his head and chuckled fondly.
"Alway got a clever name upon your sleve... you're exhuasted..." Bobby observed as she started nodding off "you got a long drive home tomorrow get some shut eye, girl." He ordered in a fatherly tone "... make sure you tell Dean about Bane tonight though kiddo... I know he said no more... he told me to make sure you didn't get another... though you don't listen to no body when it comes to animals so what'd he expect me to do..." Bobby grumbled as he walked out the room and down the stairs of his house.
"Dean is gonna be so mad." Danis voice shook as she spoke to Edris. The Malinois jumped from the chair to the bed and licked the tears from her face as they slid from her eyes. Bane nuzzled her legs comfortingly from his spot on the bed.
Dani lay there fretting and coming to the conclusion in her exhausted mind that Dean would leave her over this... maybe if she lied and said she'd had an affair with a Sioux Falls hunter, laughed and said kidding, then broke the news of Bane that the dog wouldn't be so bad.
But lying is wrong... it wouldn't be wrong if she told the truth right away. Her exhausted brain reasoned as she face timed Dean.
"Hey baby! I miss you!" Dean answered smiling brightly at her. Danis heart ached and she started rambling.
"I have something to tell you and I'm so sorry... but I've been so tiered and lonely, and he saved me while we were hunting that pack of werewolves... and Dean I'm so sorry..."
"Son of a bitch, please don't tell me you got another dog!" Dean exclaimed rubbing his face.
"I'm sorry... but he saved my life and he trusts me,, and he's been abandoned before and if I leave him again I'll be abandoning him too and i cant do that to him! Not when hes in thw condition hes in and after he saved me!" Dani started sobbing.
"Baby girl listen to me! You're exhausted! Go to sleep! I love you... even if you're bringing home another damn dog... all me in the morning and I'll see day after tomorrow ok." Dean soothed. Dani sniffed and nodded.
🐕🐈‍⬛🦜
A day and a half later Dani arrived home with Bane and Edris. She walked timidly into the bunker head kinda low, Edris ran off to find her buddies, but Bane followed her timidly, still limping from his injuries.
"Hey sweerheart." Dean greeted her givingnher a quick peck and a bear hug. "I saw the body cam footage of him saving your life... I get it..." Dean whispered in her ear as he hugged her.
"Thank you..." she replied.he stepped back and tilted her chin up so her head wasn't hanging "head up dog mom..." He smirked. He then turned to the wolf dog. The 3ft tall lanky and strong animal approached Dean submissive as he gingerly checked Dean out.
Dean let the wolf dog lean on him indicating he was ready to be addressed. Dean squatted to eye level with the wolf dog scratching his ear.
"Thank you for saving my lady." He said sincerely to the huge animal. Bane seamed to nodded acknowledgment to the thanks. "Welcome home big guy."

So interesting for me!! Loved it!!Īnother 4th grandfather in his pension file stated how he came to Kentucky with Daniel Boone to help build Fort Boone. History tells about their capture & release from Quebec. Oh my didn’t realize how much they were involved in the War & that Daniel Morgan was uncle to Daniel Boone!! My grandfather stayed with the Morgans. Which I then did research on the Militia. He talked about being captured at Quebec & escaping. Awesome!! Learned he had joined Daniel Morgan’s Virginia Rifle Militia. Just 6 months ago I found my 4th grandfather’s Revolutionary Pension file. This has made it so much easier in my research. Before I would send away to the National Archives for records. That’s quite a bit of information from one file!įind out what you can discover about your own Revolutionary War ancestors in Fold3’s Revolutionary War Pension Files. Abigail, who was 74 in August 1838, applied for a widow’s pension under the acts of 18 and received $269.33 per year, which was then increased under the 1844 act to $334.33. Jonathan died in Maine on March 21 ( or 15), 1805, at the age of 52, and his wife never remarried. They had 10 children together, 3 of whom predeceased their parents. While serving as a sergeant, ensign, lieutenant, and then captain, we learn from the journal included in his file that he participated in the battles of Hubbardton, Saratoga, White Marsh, Monmouth, and Stony Point before being discharged on 18 March 1780.įrom the file, we also learn that Jonathan and Abigail were married on Janu(or 1784) in Scarborough, Maine, and that Abigail’s maiden name was also Libby, being a “ remote relative” to Jonathan. As we dig deeper into the file, we discover that although Jonathan was living in Scarborough, Maine, he enlisted in the Massachusetts Line in March 1777, with Richard Maybery (or Mayberry) as his company captain and Colonel Francis-and later Colonel Tupper- his regimental commander. Let’s look at an example of one of these application files-that of Jonathan Libby-and see what kinds of things we can learn from it.Īs we skim through the pages, we quickly find that this file contains three separate widow’s pension applications submitted by Jonathan’s widow, Abigail, over the course of about seven years. Because veterans and their widows or heirs often submitted certain documents along with their pension or bounty land applications, within the Revolutionary War Pensions you may also find commissions, discharges, military orders, muster rolls, deeds, wills, receipts, diaries, journals, letters, marriage certificates, and newspaper clippings. In addition to details of a veteran’s military service, these types of applications are a rich source of genealogical information, such as a veteran’s age or date of birth, residence, birthplace, and even information about his wife (or widow) and children. With roughly 80,000 files, this collection (via the National Archives) contains applications for veterans’ pensions, widows’ pensions, and bounty land warrants, organized by state and then by veteran surname. If you have ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War, Fold3’s Revolutionary War Pension Files can be a valuable resource for finding detailed information about them and their families.
