Distribution of Paid Custom Content Is Harmful
Speaking about the eternal topic of paid access, I’d like to share my opinion (even though no one asked for it).
I want to note right away that I’m talking about permanently paid content — I have no complaints about early access.
I saw that a certain person wrote that hoping to get custom content from certain paid authors for free is impudence, because they put a lot of effort and time into creating it.
That sounds fair, but do free creators put in less effort? Let’s say this is a debatable issue. There can also be long discussions about what counts as high-quality content.
But I want to draw attention to something else: these creators do not exist in a vacuum. They didn’t gain their knowledge on their own. Everything we and they know about modding in The Sims 2 is the result of intellectual — and not only intellectual — work done by many people.
I also see that paid creators tend to form closed, elitist groups and do not share their experience with the rest of the community, even though they benefit from its collective knowledge.
For example, would these paid creators be able to make their content without SimPE? This software is distributed for free. Or didn’t they learn from tons of tutorials published absolutely for free?
Programs, plugins, resources — all of this helps our community thrive around an old game abandoned by its developers (don’t tell me about Legacy).
It’s the players who openly share knowledge about their favorite game who prevent it from being forgotten and keep reviving interest in it again and again.
Let’s imagine all custom content for The Sims 2 were distributed for a fee. This would cool interest in the game — not only because obviously not every player could afford to buy everything. It would also make content creation less sustainable: access to resources would be more difficult, and competition in the creator market would split the income so much that it would become negligible.
This is why I believe that custom content locked behind permanent paywalls is harmful to our community.

I thought this one would be just another developer of mobile game that use The Sims 4 contents in its (fake) ads to fraud users by making people belive it is its game, when it has a completely different gameplay.
Unfortunately, Room Makover by FlyBird Casual Games is much more than this.
Room Makover has plenty of false ads. This time I actually tried the game, because the pictures and videos on Google Play were cute and I decided to give it a try.
I was so naive. Happens that the whole page on Google Play is full of fake contents.
It's just one of those mobile games in which you have to match and remove nails. Every time you pass a level, you will rewarded with bills that you can use to unlock part of a building under "makeover". You have just three option for every part of the building or the room to choose between.
There is nothing creative. Not actual building or cluttering rooms or decoring.
As, always, since I'm a curious little bitch, I decided to dig further into this FlyBird Casual Game and... Oh. God. Their site looks even less legit than LUCKY FORTUNE GAMES' one!
It is just a void page. There is nothing here. NOTHING. The only two working section are the privacy and conditions of use, in which they try to convince you that they didn't have any liability for damages or fraud committed.
The privacy one is curious, because mentions this Commissioner's Office in UK and a long list of partners. Both for ads and for data collection, which is hugely uncommon for this kind of games.
Sooooo... In this magical list of apps, I noticed a few tech nightmares, which I will explain briefly here:
Aarki is an AI company that builds advertising solutions to drive mobile revenue growth. Traslated from bullshit: they use AI to generate fake ads and sells it to shady corps.
Blind Ferret is the big deal here! Not only gave you digital marketing solutions, data collection and analytics, but also pays influencers and product placement on social media to promote the game and, hear me out, CREATE fake ads too! It's literally written in their site: "Our Creative Services don’t just make things look pretty. Our team uses data to guide us! How do we make brands shine? By turning the arts into a numbers game with top-performing creative content." This include: Graphic Design, Illustration, 2D Animation, Video Editing and Composition, Copywriting and conceptualizing.
InMobi is a big Corp that does native advertising, which means promoted contents, collabs with influencers, etc.
Ironsource. This one is a fucking cancer. IronSource Ltd. is an Israeli software company that focuses on developing technologies for app monetization and distribution, with its core production focused on the app economy. That would sound harmless, but Samsung use it in its budget and midrange smartphone to install multiple third-party apps during the set-up process. This platform slips bloatware on the pretext of recommended apps, leading to apps clutter and reduction in on-board storage space. The only purpose it exists on Samsung phones is to download games without your consent with no way to remove it (no app installed).
Mintegral is another fucking tech nightmare. Not only poses serious threats to your privacy and datas, but also uses malicious codes to spy your activity and when you seem intentioned to install a mobile app, Mintegral’s software would then fire off fake clicks on non-existent ads to claim credit for the install and essentially collect a bounty from app publishers who pay ad networks to promote their apps.
Mistplay is one of those "play to earn bucks" that I find very very dangerous. Because YOUR data are their revenue.
Tapjoy does monetization of ads and also surveys, that force users to download one from a long list of games, download it and playing for hours or since it is gained some in-game prize. This surveys are rewarded with credits and user can spend on the mobile game they actually want to play. Tapjoy has a huge market among IMVU users, who need credits to buy piece of clothing and accessories for their avi.
The other apps do mobile app marketing, using data collection that allow shady corps to target more gullable and naive people to scam. Plus they do also monetization surveys to earn money and at the same time forcefully grow the engagement of this shady corps.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously, there is no user support mail listed in their Google Play page, but at least this has a contact mail listed on their website: [email protected]
As always, stay safe and please tell me if you know more about everything above or know the person who create this build first.
Help people to stay safe.
Thank you.
<<< previous Coloring app uses design of The Sims 4 builds without the consent of the creators and other mobile developers steal TS4 speed build contents and claim it's the actual gameplay of their mobile game.

The Darkweb: Exploring the hidden crimes of the Internet
Tumblr media
The Dark Web is a complex and often misunderstood segment of the internet, shrouded in secrecy and notorious for its association with illegal activities. This hidden part of the web, accessible only through specialised software like Tor (The Onion Router), allows users to navigate anonymously, which has fostered both legitimate and illicit uses. The Dark Web is a subset of the Deep Web, which itself constitutes about 90% of the internet not indexed by traditional search engines. While most users interact with the Surface Web, the Deep Web includes private databases and secure sites, whereas the Dark Web is specifically designed for anonymity and privacy. The Dark Web emerged from projects aimed at ensuring secure communication, originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defence in the early 2000s. [1] [2]
Hidden Crimes in the Dark Web
The anonymity offered by the dark web has made it a hub for numerous forms of criminal activity. From illegal marketplaces to cybercrime forums, this underworld of the internet is teeming with hidden dangers.
Illicit Markets and Drug Trade
One of the most notorious aspects of the dark web is its marketplace for illegal goods. Websites like the now-defunct Silk Road offered a platform where users could buy and sell illegal drugs, firearms, stolen goods, and counterfeit documents. These black markets are often operated using cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin to further mask identities and ensure untraceable transactions.According to a 2019 study by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, the dark web drug trade has grown exponentially, with millions of dollars' worth of drugs being sold monthly across various platforms . [3] [4]
2. Cybercrime and Hacking Services
The dark web also serves as a marketplace for cybercriminals. Hacking tools, ransomware-as-a-service, and stolen data are regularly exchanged in these hidden corners of the internet. Criminals offer services ranging from DDoS attacks to the sale of stolen credit card information and personal identities. Some forums even provide tutorials for novice hackers looking to learn cybercrime techniques. [5]
3. Human Trafficking and Exploitation
While less publicly discussed, the dark web has been linked to disturbing trends in human trafficking and child exploitation. Illegal forums allow criminals to sell services or even traffic victims, relying on the secrecy provided by encryption and anonymity transactions. These criminal activities often occur alongside other heinous content like child abuse imagery, which is tragically prevalent in certain corners of the dark web . [5]
4.Weapons and Assassination-for-Hire
Another dark aspect of the dark web is the sale of illegal firearms, explosives, and even assassination services. Websites provide arms to buyers without the restrictions and regulations of the surface web. Though some claims of hitmen-for-hire on the dark web have been debunked as scams, the sale of illicit firearms remains a significant concern for global law enforcement agencies .
Top 5 Notorious Cases on the Dark Web
(Content Warning: This list includes some horrifying incidents and scary dark web stories. We suggest you skip entries if you’re faint of heart or suffering from any type of anxiety or stress disorder.)
1. Banmeet Singh’s $100M+ dark web drug empire gets brought to light
Starting with a fairly recent case, Banmeet Singh of Haldwani, Northern India was sentenced to eight years in prison in late January 2024 after he was found to have created and led a multi-million dollar drug enterprise. The Indian national also forfeited $150 million in cryptocurrency. This proved to be illegal drug money that was laundered into cryptocurrency. Singh used various dark web marketplaces to create his drug empire. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Singh shipped drugs from Europe to eight distribution centers in the US. After, these were transported to and sold in all 50 US states and other countries in the Americas. Singh was arrested in London, where he was residing in 2019. In 2023, he was extradited to the US. [7]
Tumblr media
2. Operation Dark hunTor results in 150 arrests in nine countries
We’re moving from one multi-million-dollar illegal contraband case to the next. In 2021, Euro pol, Eurojust, and the police forces of nine countries conducted one of the biggest anti-crime operations the dark web has ever seen: Dark hunter. This operation resulted in 150 arrests across Australia, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. All of the arrested were allegedly involved in buying or selling illegal goods on the dark web. The authorities found some articles in the possession of the arrested that strengthened their case: EUR 26.7 million (USD 31 million) in cash and virtual currencies, 234 kg of drugs, and 45 firearms.Italian authorities also managed to close down two dark web markets that boasted over 100,000 listings for illegal goods, DeepSea and Berlusconi. [7]
Tumblr media
3. Operation DisrupTor exposes a dark web drugs distribution center
Amid the Covid pandemic, most businesses were struggling. Meanwhile, Operation DisrupTor suggests the drug business was still prospering. In February 2020, a group of FBI agents found 50 pounds of methamphetamine and thousands of Adderall pills in a storage shed in Los Angeles. The drugs, and the firearms that were also found, belonged to a crime network that had completed over 18,000 drug sales on the dark web. The criminal syndicate hid the drugs in a shed that they had made to look like a legitimate mail-order business. Their dark web drug sales included shipments to other dark net vendors, street dealers, and actual consumers. [7]

4. Attempt to hire a dark web hitman backfires
Now and then, crazy deep web stories pop up about how easy it is to hire a dark web hitman. One of these urban legends, however, turned out to be true. In February 2024, a woman from Canberra, Australia, pleaded guilty to inciting another to murder. The woman claimed to have contacted a dark web hitman (on the dark web marketplace Sinaloa Cartel) to murder her wealthy parents as part of an inheritance scheme. Supposedly, the total agreed-upon sum for the murder was $20,000, of which she had already paid $6,000 as a downpayment, using Bitcoin. It’s hard to say if the woman was actually talking to a contract killer or a scammer. Let’s just say we’re just happy the Australian court system was on to her before we could find out. While we don’t encourage anyone to go looking for a hitman on the dark web or elsewhere, this case goes to show that even on the dark web and while using crypto, many actions are retraceable. We always recommend people with good intentions to go for maximum privacy, as it’s no one’s business what they’re doing on the dark web. A great way to improve your privacy is by using NordVPN. NordVPN hides your IP address and encrypts your traffic, plus it blocks malicious links. [7]
Tumblr media
5. No Love Deep Web takes dark web enthusiasts on a treasure hunt
Back in August of 2012, visitors on the dark web could find clues scattered on the network that led them through a fascinating alternate reality game. Much like Cicada 3031’s 4chan game, the clues led regular users through an array of clever clues set up like a treasure hunt. The dark web game employed a lot of encryption means to hide its hints, including the Caesar cipher, QR codes, Morse code, and a lot of other similar encryption methods. All of the clues were spread around dark websites, and one participant recounts the experience as quite thrilling:
Tumblr media
So what was going on? Well, it wasn’t a secret government agency recruiting new members, and it wasn’t a feat of a group of cybercriminals.
Rather, the game was created by the experimental hip-hop group Death Grips to promote their new album, No Love Deep Web. [7]
READ MORE CASES [7]
Law Enforcement and the Fight Against Dark Web Crime
Despite the anonymity and encryption, law enforcement agencies around the world have made significant progress in cracking down on dark web criminality. In 2021, a multinational law enforcement effort, Operation Dark HunTor, led to the arrest of 150 individuals across multiple countries, targeting major drug vendors and illegal marketplaces on the dark web .
Undercover operations, improved digital forensics, and advances in cryptocurrency tracing have given authorities new tools to combat the hidden crimes of the dark web. However, for every takedown, new marketplaces and forums emerge, reflecting the cat-and-mouse dynamic between law enforcement and cybercriminals. [6]
Conclusion
While the dark web itself is not inherently evil, its secrecy has allowed criminals to thrive in ways that are difficult to regulate or even detect. From drug trafficking and cybercrime to human exploitation, the hidden crimes of the dark web reveal a darker side of digital anonymity. As law enforcement and technology continue to evolve, so too will the battle to uncover and combat these underground activities. Nonetheless, the dark web serves as a potent reminder that as technology advances, so too does the need for robust security measures and ethical oversight.

Writing an eBook Involves Several Key Steps
Creating an ebook can be both a rewarding and strategic process, especially when following a detailed roadmap. Here’s an expanded version of the steps:
1- Plan and Outline: Begin by identifying the purpose and core message of your ebook. What problem are you solving, or what story are you telling? Research your target audience to tailor your content specifically to their needs and interests. A strong outline helps you stay organized and ensures you cover all essential points. Break your book down into chapters or sections, with each addressing a key aspect of your topic or narrative.
2- Write the Content: With your outline as a guide, dive into the writing process. Set daily or weekly writing goals to maintain momentum. Stay authentic to your voice and keep your audience in mind throughout the writing process. Whether you’re crafting a fiction novel or a non-fiction guide, aim for clear, engaging, and informative content that adds value. Focus on providing a unique perspective or insights that differentiate your ebook from others in the market.
3- Edit and Proofread: After completing your first draft, step away for a while before revisiting it with fresh eyes. This distance can help you spot inconsistencies or areas that need improvement. Consider hiring a professional editor or using tools like Grammarly for grammar checks. Editing isn’t just about fixing errors; it also involves improving sentence structure, tone, and the overall readability of your book. Proofreading should be the final step to catch typos, formatting issues, and other minor mistakes before publishing.
4- Format Your Ebook: Ebook formatting ensures that your content looks professional across different devices, whether it’s being read on a Kindle, tablet, or phone. Platforms like KDP and Apple Books have specific requirements, so use formatting software or services like Calibre or Vellum to ensure your ebook is ready for digital publication. Don’t forget about the importance of a visually appealing cover – it’s often the first thing a reader notices. A well-designed cover can significantly increase your ebook’s appeal.
5- Publish and Promote: After formatting, choose your platform for distribution. Shabd.in is one of the most popular platforms, but you might also consider Apple Books, Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), Kobo, or Google Play Books, depending on your target audience. These platforms often allow authors to set pricing, distribution options, and even choose royalty rates. After publishing, the hard work of promotion begins. Utilize social media, your website, email newsletters, and even paid ads to get your ebook in front of potential readers. Offering free sample chapters or hosting a virtual book launch can help build momentum.
By following this comprehensive guide, you’ll not only produce a high-quality ebook but also effectively promote it to reach a wide audience, ensuring your ebook’s success.

To some extent, the significance of humans’ AI ratings is evident in the money pouring into them. One company that hires people to do RLHF and data annotation was valued at more than $7 billion in 2021, and its CEO recently predicted that AI companies will soon spend billions of dollars on RLHF, similar to their investment in computing power. The global market for labeling data used to train these models (such as tagging an image of a cat with the label “cat”), another part of the “ghost work” powering AI, could reach nearly $14 billion by 2030, according to an estimate from April 2022, months before the ChatGPT gold rush began.
All of that money, however, rarely seems to be reaching the actual people doing the ghostly labor. The contours of the work are starting to materialize, and the few public investigations into it are alarming: Workers in Africa are paid as little as $1.50 an hour to check outputs for disturbing content that has reportedly left some of them with PTSD. Some contractors in the U.S. can earn only a couple of dollars above the minimum wage for repetitive, exhausting, and rudderless work. The pattern is similar to that of social-media content moderators, who can be paid a tenth as much as software engineers to scan traumatic content for hours every day. “The poor working conditions directly impact data quality,” Krystal Kauffman, a fellow at the Distributed AI Research Institute and an organizer of raters and data labelers on Amazon Mechanical Turk, a crowdsourcing platform, told me.
Stress, low pay, minimal instructions, inconsistent tasks, and tight deadlines—the sheer volume of data needed to train AI models almost necessitates a rush job—are a recipe for human error, according to Appen raters affiliated with the Alphabet Workers Union-Communications Workers of America and multiple independent experts. Documents obtained by Bloomberg, for instance, show that AI raters at Google have as little as three minutes to complete some tasks, and that they evaluate high-stakes responses, such as how to safely dose medication. Even OpenAI has written, in the technical report accompanying GPT-4, that “undesired behaviors [in AI systems] can arise when instructions to labelers were underspecified” during RLHF.

Jake Seal Explains How Film Directors Adapted to the Streaming Era
Tumblr media
The streaming era has revolutionized the entertainment industry, reshaping how films are produced, distributed, and consumed. Renowned film producer Jake Seal has keenly observed these changes and offers insights into how film directors have successfully adapted to this new landscape.
Embracing Digital Technology
One of the most significant shifts in the streaming era is the widespread adoption of digital technology. Directors now leverage advanced digital cameras, editing software, and visual effects tools to create high-quality content that can compete with traditional theatrical releases. This technological evolution has democratized filmmaking, allowing directors with limited budgets to produce visually stunning films and reach a global audience.
Storytelling for Diverse Audiences
With streaming platforms catering to a global audience, directors have had to diversify their storytelling approaches. They now create content that resonates with various cultures and demographics. This shift has led to a rise in international collaborations and the exploration of unique narratives that might not have found a place in the traditional film industry. By embracing diverse storytelling, directors can appeal to a broader audience, ensuring their films gain traction on streaming platforms.
Navigating Data-Driven Decisions
In the streaming era, data plays a crucial role in decision-making. Directors can now access extensive viewer data, providing insights into audience preferences and viewing habits. This data-driven approach allows directors to tailor their content to meet audience demands, enhancing the chances of their films becoming hits. Understanding what resonates with viewers enables directors to make informed choices about casting, plot development, and marketing strategies.
Experimenting with Formats and Genres
Streaming platforms have also encouraged directors to experiment with different formats and genres. Streaming services offer flexibility unlike traditional cinema, where runtime and genre conventions can be restrictive. Directors can create episodic content, short films, or full-length features without the constraints of theatrical release schedules. This freedom has led to innovative storytelling and the exploration of niche genres, providing audiences with diverse content.
In conclusion, the streaming era has presented film directors with new challenges and opportunities. By embracing digital technology, diversifying storytelling, leveraging data, and experimenting with formats, directors like Jake Seal have successfully navigated this evolving landscape, ensuring their films resonate with modern audiences.

Why Podcasting Can Be a Vital Part of Your Content Marketing Strategy
Every content marketer knows one thing. That the audience loves helpful content; be it audio, visual or images. The audience will consume anything that isn’t boring, making them want to dig deeper.
As you craft your content marketing strategy, you will most likely have built an arsenal of tools to work with. They may include:
Writing blogs consistently.
Dispatching newsletters and emails regularly.
Posting on social media pages routinely.
If you think you are harnessing the power of all the existing content distribution channels, think again. A hint: You have missed out on the audio format.
If you are still scratching your head, here’s the answer: Podcasting.
Podcasting is a smart move, especially for the marketing wizards and content buffs who are paying attention. If you want to learn more about podcasting in content marketing, read further.
Advantages of Enhancing Content Marketing with Podcasts
Podcasts are super engaging. They can be your best bet for creating an unbreakable bond with your customers. Moreover, podcasts are not censored – You are as free as a bird. Plus, these audio gems are here to stay. They cannot disappear or be destroyed.
That’s why the gurus who know their niches are all thumbs up for implementing podcasts in content strategy.
There are many more advantages to podcasting. Let’s discuss them.
Low Entry Barrier
Back in the day, radio stardom required fancy gear and top-notch studios. Today, the times have changed. Podcasting is like the new kid on the content block now. It is an ultimate low-effort content creation hack. All you need is a decent mic and some trusty recording software. You can get these things without much financial hassle. You can test the waters on a shoestring budget; no need to go all-out from the get-go.
It is easy to buy a good-quality mic without burning a hole in your pocket, or you can use your smartphone recorder if cash is tight. Now Mac users can use GarageBand, and Windows users can use Audacity for audio recording and editing. Both the softwares are absolutely free.
It’s time to start working your magic. You can choose your show’s style, episode lengths, and release frequency. And, when it’s showtime, your hosting platform will share your episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and the rest. Less fuss, more listeners.
Starting up won’t empty your wallet, and you can always level up. Record a bunch of episodes in one go if your audience craves more, then dish them out on your schedule.
Effortless Consumption of Content
Unlike videos or blog posts, podcasts don’t need your full attention. You can tune in anywhere. Be it work, home or even gym. Smartphones are the ultimate podcast hubs, letting you enjoy shows on the move. Since mobile addiction is real, podcasts are ace at being mobile-friendly champs.
Remember long commutes? A large number of people jam to podcasts on their way to work. And people working remotely tune in while multitasking on work and household chores.
The cool part? You can podcast-listen while adulting, like scrubbing dishes or taking a subway ride. Flexibility plus engagement, it’s a major content win!
Consistent Engagement
When podcast listeners are all ears, spending quality time with episodes, the engagement is off the charts. Most listeners tend to stay till the end. The secret sauce? Podcasts are like chats, easy to groove with. Unlike diving into a long blog post, tuning in can feel like second nature.
Now, here’s the cool part. Podcasts aren’t just content; they’re relationship builders. That familiar host voice? Feels like an old buddy. The podcast rhythm lets you bond with your audience like a pro. They’ll keep returning for more, and your word-of-mouth game will make you unstoppable.
Brand Building
Creating brand devotion starts with an engaged podcast audience. That impressive 88% of listeners who stay tuned for the entire episode? That’s your podcasting impact right there. These deeply engaged listeners often turn into your podcast’s biggest advocates.
Much like how binge-worthy Netflix series capture attention, podcasts have that same addictive quality. Around 79% of podcast listeners dive right into a new episode as soon as it’s out.
For a prime example of real podcast marketing impact, look at Serial. This true-crime podcast skyrocketed with 10 million downloads in seven weeks, setting records in 2014. How? Fans spread the word across social media about its gripping episodes. That’s the power of podcast engagement!
Fosters Content Creation
Podcasts can be combined with written and video content, forming a content bank that engages the audience effectively. It’s like a street that goes both ways. Podcast episodes spark new blog and video ideas, while transcripts and quotes become fresh articles, videos, and more.
Now reverse the flow. Other content breeds podcast episodes. Repurpose your old blog post, and dive deeper into it on a podcast. This will boost your content creation efforts.
So, think of formats and mediums that are in sync with each other. Mix and match for content magic that fits like a glove in your marketing strategy.
Incorporating podcasting in content marketing strategy is like unlocking a treasure trove of engagement. These audio gems effortlessly connect with audiences and foster relationship-building. Their adaptable nature harmoniously integrates with other content forms for a holistic strategy. So, take the plunge into the world of podcasting; it’s the smart move for captivating content and meaningful connections.

Here are several strategies that independent artists can utilize to build their careers and achieve success on their own terms.
Leverage Digital PlatformsStreaming ServicesPlatforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music have revolutionized the way music is consumed. Independent artists can distribute their music directly to these services through distributors like TuneCore, DistroKid, and CD Baby. By regularly posting content, engaging with followers, and using targeted ads, artists can build a loyal fanbase. Viral challenges and trends, especially on TikTok, can propel a song to widespread recognition overnight. YouTubeYouTube remains a powerful tool for musicians. By creating music videos, lyric videos, and behind-the-scenes content, artists can attract and retain fans. Monetizing videos through ads and partnering with other creators can also provide additional income streams.
Build a Strong BrandUnique IdentityDeveloping a unique identity and brand is crucial. This includes everything from the artist & visual aesthetic and logo to their personal story and message. A strong brand helps artists stand out in a crowded market and makes them more memorable to listeners. How To Create A Content Marketing Strategy For Your SaaS Business
Tumblr media
Whether you're starting conversations that engage your target audience, sharing information that positions your SaaS business as an industry leader, or simply drumming up business for your SaaS product, you need an effective SaaS content marketing strategy.
Why you may ask?
Because 63% of customers cite web pages during their evaluation process. And on the average, companies that blog receive 434% more indexed pages. If, on an industry-wide scale, you have nearly 10 times more leads from long form blog posts than short ones, then content marketing is a priority if you want to grow your SaaS business long term.
In this guide, we'll discuss SaaS content marketing strategy. And by the end, you'll know what content strategy is, why you need one and when to apply it. Then you'll get a step-by-step process of creating a content strategy unique to your SaaS business.
Defining SaaS Content Strategy
Tumblr media
If you don't understand content strategy, we'll explain what it is before we get to the why and when.
So what is content strategy?
Content strategy is simply all the content processes a business employs to get prospects to buy their product or service. There's
#Audience Research
#Business Model
#Content Ideation
#Media Platforms
#Content Creation
#Distribution &
#Evaluation
And as a SaaS business owner, SaaS content strategy is simply a content strategy that accounts for your SaaS business model.
SaaS companies like Canva, Buffer and HubSpot have executed robust content marketing strategies that have scaled their lead generation and subscription efforts.
Specifically, Grammarly has a blog that educates their readers on writing styles and technique. Their blog has over 100,000 subscribers and their content has over 5 million views.
These readers get freemium access to their editing tool. They number 30 million users. And a good number of these readers end up paying for their editing software.
As a SaaS business owner, you can aim for similar success, cheap and exponential business growth, with an effective SaaS content strategy.
Benefit Of SaaS Content Strategy
Tumblr media
Focus stands out amongst content strategy benefits like exponential growth and cheap lead generation. Joe Pulizzi stressed the importance of content strategy and expanded on focus as a SaaS content strategy benefit when he said this…
"We need to create a business strategy for our content. That means saying no to many channels and content types, and focus on where we can build an asset, an audience, overtime."
- Joe Pulizzi
A good SaaS content strategy saves time and energy that would otherwise be spent talking to the void. Strategy quickly gets you closer to what works. By studying your target market, you discover not just what to say, but where and when to say it.
Let's take HubSpot for instance here.
HubSpot's blog posts are comprehensive guides to unlock business growth via sales and marketing. Their blog content has a strong bias towards explaining theories and practices. But on their Instagram page, we observe something different. Content is more conversational and personable. Learning takes a back seat to experience and entertainment.
Their blog readers and Instagram followers are different. And even when these audiences overlap, we see different attitudes for different platforms. And in this case, the same lead is in a different mindset depending on which platform they consume HubSpot's content.
We can see that HubSpot's approach to content creation and distribution considers platform culture when talking about the same topics. These content strategy insights come from studying market behavior on search engines and different social media platforms.
So now they don't have to work mindlessly. They have knowledge and a plan on how to use relevant content to generate leads and sales.
This is the process of creating a content strategy and you can do the same for your SaaS business.
When To Use SaaS Content Strategy
Tumblr media
From time to time, I find founders and aspiring entrepreneurs asking when to use content strategy in their business.
My answer?
Start as soon as you can. In fact, you should have started yesterday even if you don't have a product or market. Surprised? Let me explain.
Early Stage SaaS Companies
You see, a content strategy is valuable because of what it makes you do. You can't have a strategy to engage a market if you first don't know your core service or product, and who would need your offer.
Say you're a digital marketer helping e-commerce stores increase website traffic. And you hope to sell software services to e-commerce store owners in the future. You could use a content strategy where you document your process of helping e-commerce websites grow their traffic.
Now you're engaging your market while figuring out other problems they may have that would be worth a SaaS tool. Before UberSuggest, Neil Patel ran his digital marketing blog for many years. He offered educational content to digital marketers and online entrepreneurs on how to grow their businesses. Now his SaaS tool, UberSuggest, helps entrepreneurs with keywords for their content marketing efforts.
Established SaaS Companies
On the other hand, established SaaS businesses can improve the value of their business by having another option to generate leads and sales. Outbound processes like cold calling and emailing can be effective and sustainable. But adding inbound processes like content marketing to the mix increase lead gen options and strengthens outbound processes too.
Regardless of where you are in your SaaS journey, creating a good SaaS content strategy keeps you in touch with your product and market.
Now having understood what a SaaS content strategy is and can do, let's get into the weeds of creating one.
Defining Your Market
Tumblr media
All effective SaaS content strategy starts out with a defined market. As a SaaS business owner, ask yourself these questions…
Who needs what you sell?
Why do they have this need?
What would they feel like when said need is satisfied?
What else do they do outside finding said satisfaction?
These questions give you an opportunity to understand your market. Say you sell business software to freelance writers and content creators. Freelance writers and content creators need high paying clients and commercial success with their audience respectively.
But is that all?
It isn't. Dig deeper.
For a freelance writer, higher paying clients mean
Reduced Anxiety
Meaningful Work &
Time Freedom
And for the content creator, a profitable product they own means
Income Stability
Creative Freedom &
Work Satisfaction
As an owner of your business software, you now know what your editing or invoice software actually means to your market. You know their needs and what they'll feel like when satisfied.
So it's time to find them.
SaaS Content Strategy Platforms
Tumblr media
We've answered the above questions for your hypothetical software business except for what content creators and freelance writers do outside their core jobs.
Answering the last question brings up more questions…
Do they consume business content from online gurus?
Do they take courses from fellow writers and bloggers?
What about search and social groups where they interact with fellow content creators and freelancers?
Remember, we're trying to find out their hangout spots online. So wherever they spend their time online is a potential content strategy platform. Content strategy platforms are places that shape your tone and approach to creating engaging content that converts prospects.
You can speak with your customers to get an idea of how they spend their online hours when they're not working. Of course you can't go around asking awkward questions like
'Where do you spend your time online?'.
Instead, you can say something like
'What's your most inspiring piece of educational content in the last 2 months?'
'Who's making content that gets you excited?'
'What obstacles do you face that often hinder your productivity?' (By the way, whoever is offering courses or creating content to solve that problem is a potential content strategy platform.)
Get a list of these content strategy platforms and go to work studying your market. You'll find yourself in reddit channels, comment sections of Instagram accounts and YouTube channels. You'll pick up Twitter trends and read blog comments.
Before long, the picture of your market becomes clear. You'll be full of content and distribution ideas for your content marketing campaign. Your SEO keyword search would be much more robust instead of staring at keyword software charts with frustration.
Back to our hypothetical software business. Your market research would take you to content strategy platforms like Ali Abdaal, Dan Koe, Zulie Rane, Gary Vee and Roberto Blake. These creators serve the typical content creator and freelance writer. Observe how they talk and what they talk about in the comment sections of these influencer accounts.
Now you know exactly what your market wants and you know how to create content for them.
It's time to engage and convert.
Engaging And Converting Your Audience
Tumblr media
Many SaaS companies get it right up to this point but skid off track at this crucial bend. They lose because they want to engage their prospects on the company's terms. Don't make that mistake.
Remember our earlier conversation about HubSpot's approach to their blog and Instagram accounts?
Good.
They observed that business owners on search engines such as Google, have search intent to learn about new information and products to solve business problems. So HubSpot's blog attracts them with big prominent blog titles and small author bylines.
Blog Titles
Tumblr media
Picture of HubSpot's SERP
Blog Titles and Author Bylines
Tumblr media
Picture of HubSpot's Blog Post
You get the sense that it's ideas first before people. On the other hand, business owners and professionals who want to unwind while being social on Instagram, dictate HubSpot's Instagram approach to content creation. Here, social interaction and entertainment are priority over ideas and education.
Personality Over Theory
Tumblr media
Picture of HubSpot's Instagram account
It's not enough to create content, you have to do so native to each platform. This is where strategy bleeds into tactics. Let's talk team building.
Building A Content Team
Having understood what it takes to create a practical SaaS content strategy, it's time to roll up your sleeves and get to tactics. You could start solo but at some point, you'd need to build a team.
We'll examine 4 factors that determine the success of your team. They're
Vision
Roles
Collaboration &
Accountability
We'll begin with vision.
Vision
Your vision is volume and creativity. You have a SaaS content strategy and ideas to engage your prospects. But to get results, you need to create and distribute as much content as possible.
We're talking 20-30 social media posts daily with at least 3-10 social engagements per post. Write blog posts, record podcasts and YouTube videos on a daily basis. Repurpose your long form posts for social. You want to find what sticks.
This is hard work but that's the real secret to content marketing success.
Especially at the beginning, you have to find out what actually works. So volume and creativity is the vision when hiring a content marketing team. At such volume, in 3-5 years, you'll evaluate content activity and do more of what engages your market. And consistent sales roll in.
There are no shortcuts to this game. It's not a sprint or a marathon, it's both. The long hard road is the easiest and shortest one. Get to work. As entrepreneurs, we instinctively understand that outbound processes like cold calling are a numbers game but we don't apply it to content marketing.
There are so many intangible content marketing skills that can only be mastered via the fire hose approach. So when building your content marketing team, your overarching vision is that big is better.
Roles
You want big and better, so it's time to get you a content marketing team who can achieve your goals. I'd say that there are 3 major content marketing roles.
Director
Manager &
Creative
When you were creating your content marketing strategy for your hypothetical SaaS company, you played the director role. In addition to setting the vision for content strategy, a director of content analyses and adjusts content efforts to achieve customer and company goals.
The manager is in charge of content production and adjacent processes. They hire creatives, supervise them and build systems that guarantee the right flow of content creation and distribution.
Creatives create content assets, engage with professionals within your business and prospects via content strategy platforms. They also collaborate with both manager and director to improve their creative processes.
Collaboration
Team collaboration with each other and the larger organization decides success. On the director level, they have to find a balance between customer satisfaction and company goals.
When creating a content strategy, these 2 criteria guide the content strategy process. Many times, the director is the link between C-suite and the content marketing branch of the company.
The manager, in many ways, is the middleman. They make strategy, from the director, and tactics from creatives, align. Giving strategy legs, and tactics direction, leads to a successful conveyor belt of content assets and development of customer-company relationships.
Creatives who collaborate effectively with their managers, get to do meaningful and result-driven work.
Accountability
Accountability is probably the only way to see through projects. We'll look at 3 ways to hold both you and the team accountable for your roles.
I. Set Realistic Goals
At the beginning you want the team to start with small achievable goals. A social media content creator who hasn't done more than 5 posts a day shouldn't start their first day on the job creating 30 social media posts daily.
II. Set General Guidelines And Standards
Something as simple as adequate communication during work hours should be basic. Team chats and emails shouldn't be left unattended for 3 days without prior notification of a new development. Team members should attend meetings.
III. Assign Specific Tasks To Individual
A good example here would be creatives being in charge of content creation and distribution. They're not responsible for engagement results. That's the responsibility of the manager and director.
Conclusion
As we draw this guide to a close, it's important to note that content marketing strategy will always be worth its business results. And since ever-changing markets affect business results, you'll always have to evaluate your tactics and strategy.
At the beginning of your content marketing efforts, a strategy, content schedule and distribution map, should be the goal. It isn't about the number of views as it's about the number of content pieces you create. And that's why volume is important.
A year or 2 into this flurry of activity, all content strategy platforms would show noticeable patterns of engagement. Some content pieces would have more engagement than others. This is where evaluation comes in.
Ditch what doesn't work and do more of what does. Scaling what works at this point would grow views and traffic. Just as we discussed, content marketing strategy is the first in a series of steps to generate leads and sales for your business.
If you have further questions about SaaS content strategy or content marketing in general, leave a comment below and it'll be addressed.
