Excerpt from this story from CBC News:
Stand atop Mount Erickson in southeastern British Columbia and it feels like you can see forever.
Look north, and peer along the jagged ridgelines of the High Rock Range, which stretch to the horizon. To the south, snow-capped peaks in the Crowsnest Range cut into the blue sky, rising above dense green forests. Across the valley to the west, row upon row of sawtoothed summits fade into the distance, melding into mesmerizing array.
And then you look down.
Down the austere slope, in the valley below, is a massive, open-pit coal mine.
The word “mine” evokes images of soot-smeared workers in underground tunnels, but this is actually a mountain in the process of being deconstructed. A geologic wound. Its slopes are blackened and tiered, abuzz with enormous yellow trucks that look tiny from this distance, kicking up grey plumes of dust as they haul the pulverized mountain away, load by load.
This is one of five coal mines owned by Teck Resources in B.C’s Elk Valley. Together, these operations produce the bulk of the mining revenue in a province that has made coal its top export.
Now, turn on your heel and look to the east: past the Continental Divide, over the invisible border into Alberta’s Crowsnest Pass. There’s the distinctive, rounded peak of Crowsnest Mountain and, just beyond that, the Livingstone Range. The same, high-quality coal is locked away in these mountains, yet there are no operational mines here. The last one closed in 1983.
The difference dates back to 1976. That’s when the Progressive Conservative government of premier Peter Lougheed adopted its Coal Development Policy, which restricted open-pit mines across most of the province's Rocky Mountains and Foothills. For the last 44 years, this policy protected some of Alberta's most pristine and iconic landscapes. It also chased mining companies into neighbouring B.C., limiting potential livelihoods for thousands of Albertans.
Now, this long-standing tradeoff between environmental protection and economic opportunity is poised to change.
On June 1, the United Conservative government of Premier Jason Kenney rescinded the coal policy. The full implications of this are not yet clear, but there is growing tension — both nervous and excited energy — about what it will bring.
What is known is that the change happened suddenly, with virtually no public consultation but plenty of behind-the-scenes lobbying. And it didn’t happen in isolation. It came alongside a rapid-fire series of legislative changes that removed hurdles for industrial development, more broadly, during a particularly desperate economic moment.

I’ve read your post about prickly pear and in it, you wrote you found some in the Okanagan region in BC?? Do tell me where because I attend university there! I’d love to see some prickly pears
Oh no, I am sorry – sincerely! – for not immediatelyanswering. I’m jealous that you get to attend school here; I absolutely lovecentral BC. I hope you’re still around to see this; I went to retrieve anotebook with more precise info (dates, temperature) but then failed to findit. But now that summer’s nearing and it’s a good time to go outside, I wantedto give you a couple of locations.
A few summers in a row, I saw prickly-pear near Osoyoos while looking for reptiles. I’m sure you know this already, but I love how the Okanogan Valley and Similkameen Valley act as a sort of far-northern range limit for plant and animal species more typical of the semi-arid Great Basin in the US. The rain shadow caused by the southern Coast Range and northern Cascades helps keep it dry (I’ve heard the Ashcroft area called “Canada’s only desert”). Several reptile species - racer; Great Basin gophersnake; Northern Pacific rattlesnake; desert night snake - rely on this corridor of sagebrush in the Okanogan to enter and inhabit Canada.
Anyway - here are the locations that I know of:
The Nk’mip Desert & Heritage Center, just east ofOsoyoos, is one location where I’ve seen prickly-pear (2014) and it’s very easyto access. It’s a nice place to take a stroll through some relatively intact sagebrushsteppe-type vegetation above Osoyoos Lake. (I’m not sure if there’s a feecharged nowadays for accessing the trails at the site.) There’s a chance thatstaff at the site might be a little bit picky (or “prickly”) if you wander offthe designated trails. And there’s so much human activity in the area that I don’t know if it’s a reliable place to continue to see prickly-pear.
Another location where you could check, with a little morefreedom to wander, would be the roadside along Crowsnest Highway a few mileswest of Osoyoos towards South Okanogan Grasslands Protected Area. Here, thereare two small pond/lake features – Richter Lake and Spotted Lake. They’resurrounded by pretty sagebrush. There’s not much room to walk around before you run into private land, but still.
The best location I found was along McKinney Road (2014 –2016). This is a road accessible from the town of Oliver, a little north ofOsoyoos. The road rises from sagebrush steppe through low-elevation ponderosawoodland, where I’ve seen the prickly-pear along small exposed rockoutcroppings. There are some private homes and drives along McKinney Road, butI’m pretty sure it’s fine to pull over and check the roadside for plants. (Iwas looking for lizards and snakes.) There are plenty of opportunities to pull over and check different microhabitats.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if the White Lake GrasslandsProtected Area (between Skaha Lake and Vaseux Lake, south of Penticton) hadhealthy prickly-pear, given that its climate and vegetation is similar to the Osoyoos area. But I don’t know anything about public access in that area.
I’m sorry again for the delay in answering. I hope you get to see some cactus. :)

The Rocky Mountains
Hello Autumn,
Ever notice when the fall season arrives out here, we are already accustomed to it? Seems like it's always been that way.
On Friday we followed another abandoned rail line along the Chief Isadore Trail. There was moisture in the air and a low cloud bank that made the ride eerie and mystical. The route was gorgeous. We crossed the great Kootenay River one last time. We meandered along the powerful Elk River for the afternoon. As we approached Fernie we met a quintessential Crowsnest freight train crawling westbound. Our bikes racked up 112Ks on this last day of summer.
Fernie is nestled in this majestic mountain range. Once a mining boomtown, it is now a ski haven. On this side of the Rockies the rivers surge to the Pacific. Today we ride northward on an ascent to Elkford and our chosen pass to Alberta on the other side.
It's still dark. We are hoping for sunshine.
Cheers,
Bill and Ken
PS We’ve set up a fundraiser for our ride. If you would like to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation this year, here’s a chance to do so. Click here to donate.

Be Home For Christmas
Christmas Challenge: request by @whispersandwhiskerburn with Dean and the song I’ll be home for Christmas by Rascal Flatts Listen to the song first, I’ve used a few lyrics throughout but haven’t bolded them. I’ve just kinda gone with a feeling and a theme, i think ... AN: Thanks to @babypieandwhiskey for beta-ing this for me.
“I’ll be home in time, darlin’, don’t you worry.” Dean reassured, ignoring Sam’s shaking head. “You better, Winchester!” Y/N chided, remembering the same promise, broken last year. “I will! I’ll be home for Christmas.” Dean sighed, praying to whoever was listening, that this was a quick case. “Let me guess, I can count on you?” Y/N finished before hanging up. “Love you too,” Dean said sarcastically before turning to Sam’s laptop, paying attention to exactly what his little brother had found.
“I can’t believe there’s a dream stalker before christmas, doesn’t it have a heart?” Dean said, his exasperation for hunting shining through. “I think that’s the point.” Sam said, half jokingly, rubbing at the back of his neck when a silence passed between them. Sam held up a fist in his palm. “Rock, paper--?” “Oh, just give it ‘ere.” Dean snatched the jar of dream root mix out of Sam’s hand and downed the concoction, stumbling back till his calves hit the motel bed. Sam quickly moved forward and caught Dean’s shoulder before he fell backwards, attempting to lay him down gently.
“Dean!” Y/N greeted, jumping into his arms as soon as he stepped foot inside the house. She smothered him in kisses, finally pulling back to look into his green eyes. “You made it!” “You can count on me!” He said with a nod, pulling her impossibly closer while kissing her. “I can’t wait for you to meet the family!” She said when she pulled away from his plump lips. “The family?” Dean muttered, following as she pulled him by the hand into the family room. Dean noticed the cream walls, the mahogany doorway, the shining floorboards. This wasn’t their place. This was Lisa’s. Lisa’s when Dean had lived with her. “Uh, babe?” Dean said, giving her hand a squeeze. “Mom, Dad, meet Dean, my fiancee!” Y/N introduced. Dean’s eyes widened before flicking to the silver band attached to her ring finger. The gleaming rock fixed to the center.
Had she found it? He hadn’t asked yet! This was meant to be her Christmas gift. “Congratulations, son!” Y/N’s father greeted, a hand extending towards the older Winchester. Dean took it and looked up. Black, glassy eyes stared back from a pale white face, a beaming smile of pointed teeth. Dean tried to drop the hand, but long nails began to dig in, holding him in place. “Y/N!” Dean hissed, reaching for his partner, swinging his arm out to the side, trying to pull her behind him. But all he got was a pocket of cold air. “Y/N?” Dean looked to where Y/N had been, now a wispy, grey glow of her body, floated where she’d stood. “Sam!” Dean bellowed. He tried to pry the man’s hand off his, finally pulling the claws from his own flesh, turning for the door. But Y/N’s mother stood in the way, and no matter how fast Dean tried to dodge around her, there she was. He shoved at her, but she didn’t budge. She pushed at him, a hand straight to his chest, sending him flying across the room now turned bunker. “Sam!” Dean yelled again. The woman’s face shifted and changed in a blink to that of a man Dean had never met before. “Yes, that’s right, yell for help!” The man sneered.
Dean pushed himself up the concrete wall, standing again, feeling his way along the room, hoping to come across one of his guns. “You’re the dream stalker.” Dean snarled, putting it together finally. “I thought I had at least another minute’s worth of fun with you.” The man sounded disappointed, like he’d missed the chance to play with his favourite toy. “Oh well…”
Sam watched as his brother’s face ran a range of emotions, happiness, confusion, anger, terror, fear. Dean’s body began to thrash and convulse on the bed, as if he were possessed. Sam waited, hoping he wasn’t going to miss the only chance they had. “Sam.” Dean muttered, almost inaudible, easily missed. But Sam heard it all too clearly. He pried Dean’s clenched fist open and planted the blade in his palm, curling his brother’s fingers back around the handle. “Y/N?” Sam called into the bunker after opening the door from the garage. “Sam?” Y/N’s voice rang back, the light pat of her barefeet told the hunter she was running up the corridors. “You made--” Y/N’s words fell away, her eyes went wide. “He’s shopping.” Sam quickly added, pulling her from her worst thoughts. “Jesus, fuck, you scared the crap outta me.” Y/N said, closing the distance and giving his arm a solid punch. “You were the one that assumed.” Sam chastised, pulling her into a headlock and walking them both down the hall. “Lemme go!” She laughed, pushing out of his hold, not noticing that he’d let her, or that he’d stopped dead in his tracks. “Y/N,” Sam breathed as he rounded the corner and saw the christmas lights through the arch at the end of the hall. “Good?” She asked, pushing her hands into her pockets and rocking on the balls of her feet. “Good? Amazing.” Sam corrected, pulling her into his side. “Thanks. I hope Dean likes it.” Y/N mumbled, spinning when she heard the tell tale creak of the iron door opening.
As the man’s hands connected with Dean’s throat, Dean’s fist connected to the dream stalkers gut. The hunter let out a choked breath, the man let out a low gurgle. Both looked down. The handle of a blade was protruding from the dream stalker’s stomach. “How?” The dreamstalker burbled. “Guess yelling for help worked.” Dean ripped the blade back out from the man’s stomach, watching as black smoke spilled from the wound.
“Oh my god!” Came the loud, gruff voice. “Christmas threw up in here!” Dean said from the crowsnest at the top of the stairs. “Dean!” Y/N squealed, she almost hadn’t believed it when Sam had arrived, now she had Dean, and a whole day before Christmas!
“You made it!” She launched at him as soon as he reached the bottom step, spinning as he caught her. She planted a chaste kiss on his lips and smiled. “You can co-- I sure did!” Dean corrected himself, the dream still fresh in his mind. “There’s someone I’d like you to meet.” Y/N said, slipping down from his hold, pulling at his arm. “Uhh, if this is your parents, I can’t… I mean,” Dean fumbled for words, pinching at the back of his hand. “My parents? All the way from New Zealand?” Y/N turned and gave him a funny look. “No. Trust me,” She gave his arm a slight tug, biting her lip, waiting for Dean to choose to follow.
And he did. Sam’s curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself following behind. They headed down the hall and stopped outside the first bedroom door, normally the empty one. “This, is Rex!” She said, laughing when a grown German Shepherd bounded out and jumped up at Dean, excitedly licking at hands that came to scratch his ears. “A dog?” Dean asked. “No, a goldfish.” Sam couldn’t help himself, crouching to pet the eager old dog. “I adopted him, he was old and they were gonna, so I brought him…” Y/N trailed off when she looked at Dean. “I hope you don’t mind.” Y/N’s puppy eyes would champion Sam’s any day. “He’s not going in the Impala!” Dean’s words weren’t exactly a jovial yes, but they were along the lines that Y/N was expecting. And she jumped at him once again, crushing her lips to his. “You want your present early?” Dean whispered as he pulled back from a bruising kiss. “Naturally,” Y/N said, not at all aware of Sam trying to usher Rex out of the hall. Dean reached into his back pocket and produced a tiny hessian bag with drawstrings. “It’s not big or flashy, but I saw it and … well it reminded me of you.” Dean said with a hesitant smile, watching as Y/N pulled the bag open and tipped the contents into her palm.
“Baby!” Y/N breathed, holding up the leather strap, letting the intricately woven silver pendant dangle from the end. “It’s an infinity knot, it means,” Dean paused, swallowing thickly, suddenly overcome with emotions but tongue tied against expressing them. Y/N pressed a firm but loving kiss to his lips, lingering in the intensity of the moment. “Thank you.” Y/N whispered against his lips as she pulled back and placed the necklace in his hand.
She turned her back to him and lifted her hair. Dean couldn’t help but smile, this woman understood him completely. He fastened the necklace at the back of her neck and pecked just above it, before snaking his fingers over her hips and turning her back around. “I love you.” Dean said. “Even if I got you an old dog?” Y/N chuckled, winding her arms around his neck. “Mmm… maybe.” Dean joked, getting a mock look of shock from her. “I love you.” She affirmed, reaching up on tiptoes to seal their affection between their lips.
And on that Christmas Eve, Y/N didn’t care that Dean hadn’t proposed, all that mattered was she could count on him. Forever.

Seven Gems on (or near) the Crowsnest Highway
Have you ever travelled the Crowsnest Route? Otherwise known as Highway 3, this 700 mile long blaze of wanderlust is a tribute to the landscapes of southern BC and Alberta and is scattered with gems. Its’ mountains and prairies, valleys and coulees, canyons and creek side rest stops, lakes and forests and rivers, collectively deliver an epic view of what this part of Canada is all about.
The genesis of this highway was a route called the Dewdney Trail which was built to connect gold rush towns throughout much of southern BC. (And resist American gold diggers pressing in from the south.) Beginning in the Fraser River valley outside of Vancouver, the route takes you east from Hope, B.C., through the Cascade Mountains and into the southern portion of the orchard rich Okanagan valley anchored by hot hot Osoyoos. Over Anarchist Mountain (which if coming east to west may finish off your vehicle’s brakes), it winds for miles and miles through, say these names out loud, the Monashees, Selkirk and Purcell sub-ranges of the Columbia Mountains. Don’t you love the sound of those names? The Mountain Show finale begins east of Cranbrook, where the first sight of the towering Rockies comes into view and commands your attention all the way to and beyond Fernie, the ski resort town so many Albertans love. Entering the Crowsnest Pass east of Fernie, passing the world’s biggest truck, watch for the appearance of the singular cloud calling Crowsnest Mountain, which owns the northern side of the highway here, a sentinel marking the end, or beginning, of your journey through this unique portion of the Crowsnest.
When heading east and home as I was a couple of weeks ago I always feel a certain melancholy as I pass through the little towns of the pass - Coleman, then Blairmore, after which Crowsnest Mountain fades in my rearview mirror. The boulder sea birthed by Turtle Mountain and known as the Frank Slide adds to the sense of something different, an ending. Soon though, hints of the coming prairie can be seen as the mountains diminish around Bellevue, the last little town of the Crowsnest Pass. Depending on the weather, the view beyond Bellevue can be inspiring or terrifying. An entire universe of pure radiant green and blue, all wide open and ready to receive you, or frozen wind stripped barrens with no obvious shelter. Either way, the remainder of the Crowsnest Highway offers a reminder of the vastness of the prairie and the courage of the people who farm and ranch and live on that land. The route travels through the vibrant small cities and cliff and hoodoo studded river valleys of Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. When you reach the Hat you have come to the end of this inter-provincial highway and seen a truly incredible variety of places and landscapes.
A couple of weeks ago I travelled west for about 500 miles of the Crowsnest beginning at the junction of highway 22 and 3, and ending in Grand Forks, BC. I made this trip to visit my father. This is one of many, many trips over the last ,35 years that I have taken along the Crowsnest to Grand Forks to visit family. Growing up, I lived in the Grand Forks and Christina Lake area and travelled the route east to come to Calgary and visit family here. I also went many times west from Christina Lake, down the brake burning Anarchist Mountain and on into the Fraser Valley and the coast, passing through Hope when it was still a long way from Vancouver, to visit my grandparents who lived in the heart of that coastal metropolis.
Thousands and thousands of miles, back and forth along the Crowsnest, over a lifetime. Autumn trips to Vancouver, launched at midnight so that we would arrive at my grandmother’s big round oak table just in time for breakfast, those trips made in the backseat of my father’s cars, the one I remember best an emerald green Riviera with white leather seats. My father commenting on the sunrise over the Fraser River and the sparkle of the water which he never painted but would have if he had had the time. Winter trips through all those mountain ranges to get from Christina Lake to Calgary to celebrate Christmas with my mother’s sister and my cousins. In the backseat clutching my book which I couldn’t concentrate on due to the terror I felt. It was the snow and ice on the roads, the vapour of the big logging trucks that made the world hard to see, the tension in my mother’s shoulders. I do not like driving that highway in winter but I did it anyway, when I was raising my kids, because I wanted them to have those memories of Christmas’ with their cousins, who grew up back in Grand Forks. People I love have always lived in Grand Forks, it seems.
But the summer trips! The summer trips through those mountains and valleys and along that piece of prairie. The treasures to be found, some hidden, some right on the highway, some just a few miles up another road.
Here are Seven Gems of the Crowsnest:
Hell’s Gate during hummingbird migration. Less than an hour north from Hope, Hell’s Gate is a spectacle unlike anything I’ve seen anywhere else so far on this planet. The crashing and ripping of the Fraser River through this canyon is in itself an experience, but it’s the spring hummingbird migration that takes Hell’s Gate to a whole different level. It’s like standing in the middle of an avian war zone. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of hummingbirds of various species take over the airspace of the platform which is hung with dozens of feeders. And every one of these master flyers are on a single minded mission to fatten up. Standing amongst them, it feels dangerous to move because your body might end up punctured with a sharp beak. It only feels that way though. These birds are aerial acrobats. Despite masses of them all working in the same confined space, they never crash. They fight, but they don’t crash. Spectators like me stand watching and speechless, as these birds zip by like electric currents, from feeder to feeder. It’s an incredible sight.
Keremeos peaches and cherries. Keremeos is a little village on the cusp of the Okanagan region. Aside from the interesting geography – moist cedar and fir forested Cascades meet semi-arid, stone and pine studded hills, the peaches and cherries grown here are indisputably the biggest, juiciest, and sweetest peaches and cherries you will ever taste. The soil and climate, the terroir, of this region known as the Similkameen Valley, must have something to do with it. Really, their fruit is beyond delicious. And as far as I know, none of it comes to Alberta. You have to go there to experience it. Go there.
Greenwood’s Copper Eagle and Deadwood Junction cafes. Greenwood is a pretty little town on the route with an irresistible main street. A short walk to look at the classic western style false fronts and a longer look at The Greenwood Hotel and Saloon which epitomizes the character of this streetscape. I’ve never stayed or eaten there because it’s just a few miles away from Grand Forks, but I always stop at either the Copper Eagle next door, or the Deadwood Junction around the corner. In terms of pie, cinnamon buns, or some other wickedly delicious sweet to go with a cappuccino or latte, both of these coffee shop/bakeries/cafes can hold their own with big city coffee shops.
Castlegar and the area just north off the Crowsnest is a paradise for summer exploration. The jewel within the region, Valhalla Provincial Park and Slocan Lake. Swimming in this lake is a quintessential southern BC interior experience. Nothing like the crowded Okanagan or the Shuswap (which are nevertheless also divine). Slocan Lake water is warm, clear and clean, and surrounded by the beautiful Valhalla range of the Selkirks, which has been protected through the park designation due to the mountains unique topography and vegetation. Truly a hidden gem.
Truscott Farms in Creston. This fruit stand has it all. Every BC fruit in abundance, along with all the vegetables, always fresh and all grown on the slopes right behind the fruit stand. A big outdoor sink area to wash the fruit, next to a setting of picnic tables under the cooling shade of densely leafed trees. A huge herb and flower garden to wander through and stretch your legs. A lunch counter in the back of the fruit stand where you can get a delicious sandwich made with locally baked bread, a piece of pie, locally made sausage, a coffee, whatever you want. Go sit in the shade with your own packed lunch and a basket of cherries. Oh, there’s also an additional shop full of preserves, pickles, jams. And, if you’re pulling a camper, the parking is a breeze. This operation has had decades to figure it all out and invested in making their fruit stand a perfect place to enjoy the summer bounty of this region.
Almost any BC Rest Stop. Pick one that has a creek, which most appear to have, and a trail that disappears into the woods. These places are so thoughtfully done, scattered picnic benches under the forest canopy, nothing more to distract from the simple natural beauty. So peaceful. There’s a really special one going east out of Christina Lake, on the big long straight stretch portion of the hill toward Paulson Bridge. There’s a tiny wooden bridge that allows you to cross from the paved and motorized world into the tranquil universe of plants and animals. It’s magic, like the kids that disappear into Narnia through the back of the wardrobe but better, because there’s no evil witch, just peace and quiet. I have not stopped there in years but in the past I went there in August and picked wild blackberries.
Fort Macleod. I just love this town. The importance of its’ history, which the fort itself interprets so well, its’ immaculate downtown streets, its’ friendly and interesting residents, its’ old stately houses and yards filled with tough prairie trees and plants and flowers, and, my memory of the first time I saw a prairie sunrise. I had come alone at the age of nine or ten on the Greyhound bus from Christina Lake to Calgary to stay for a summer vacation with my aunt. The bus rolled into Fort Macleod just as the sun was rising and I can still remember the feeling of awe I experienced as the entire world seemed to be painted and lit in the golds and pinks and tangerines of a Keremeos peach. I believe it was that trip that forged my love of travel.
Wishing you a wonder filled, peachy summer.

Fernie, BC (No. 3)
Fernie is a city in the Elk Valley area of the East Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia, Canada, located on BC Highway 3 on the western approaches to the Crowsnest Pass through the Rocky Mountains. Founded in 1898 and incorporated as the City of Fernie in July 1904, the municipality has a population of over 5,000 with an additional 2,000 outside city limits in communities under the jurisdiction of the Regional District of East Kootenay. A substantial seasonal population swells the city during the winter months.
Fernie lies on the Elk River, along Canada's southernmost east-west transportation corridor through the Rockies that crosses the range via the Crowsnest Pass, 40 kilometres (25 miles) to the east. As the largest and longest-established community between Cranbrook and Lethbridge, Fernie serves as a minor regional centre, particularly for its fellow Elk Valley communities.
Fernie is the only city-class municipality in Canada that is fully encircled by the Rocky Mountains. The townsite was laid out in the crook of a doglegged glacial valley that today is drained by the Elk River. Three tributaries of the Elk—Coal, Lizard, and Fairy Creeks—rise in its side valleys and join the Elk either within or in close proximity to the townsite.
To the north of the city lie Mount Fernie, Mount Klauer, The Three Sisters and Mount Proctor. To the northeast is Mount Hosmer, to the east is Fernie Ridge, to the southeast is Morrissey Ridge and to the southwest are the various peaks of the Lizard Range. Fernie gives the name to the Jurassic-Age Fernie Formation. The Lizard Range is home to Fernie Alpine Resort, one of the largest ski resorts in Canada, and Island Lake Catskiing, a resort.

5 Famous Traveler Places Of Nepal
For those of us that notion our company just couldn't live in locations that were hot all year, this winter season has actually generated a distinct improvement in lots of people's minds. Although this hike doesn't have much from a neglect (the above photographes were actually tackled the drive up the mountain range), that was a good little path. One inhuman factor concerning this mountain range is that temperature levels may fall to a low variety of -ve60 to -ve85 amounts Celsius. I believe John touched on a small amount, which is actually - that is actually truly the dash of the - as well as the improving intimation from the New Mountain platform, that allows us, I assume, to both observe and also evaluate, probably more possibilities compared to some of our brethren. So, I mean keeping our hands crucifixed, I have no idea exactly how promptly something like that can easily take place, yet it will be actually a large perk to the shareholders from Rocky Hill. This would be actually a wonderful expertise if you trek to the absolute most attractive snow skiing resort named Schilthorn. New Mountain range Money management's fine-tuned internet expenditure revenue for the one-fourth ended March 31, 2017, was $0.34 each share in the middle from our advice of $0.33 to $0.35 per reveal and once more covering our quarterly reward of $0.34 every reveal. He is actually not simply helping in terms of positioning thoroughly the Keurig label as our company grow past coffee as well as our experts extend in to chilly drinks, he is really helping our company well as our company construct our own brands in coffee, The Green Hill company, the Donut Shop label, our Laughing Man company, the Barista Prima the brand names we possess that do pretty properly in the market place Mark is aiding our team clear up and hone those. No, the picture is actually not from any kind of mountain range found in the Crowsnest Elapsed or anywhere else on this continent for that concern. Given management's mentioned long-term targets and direction, this's very likely that Iron Mountain range are going to continue to increase its own payment at a little below the marketplace's long-term 5.8% yearly median fee.

This was good tips: off Quishuarani our company created the absolute most requiring trip from the travel, tackling an astonishingly high slope that had our company as much as Hullquicasa which, at 4400m over sea level, was the 2nd huge mountain range pass of our trip. Lots of folks brand new to the sport simply aren't certain which fitandbeautyblog.info from the various Haro mountain bicycle they need to pick. The Mountain has a collection from wonderful creature concept tee shirts in the Advancement line-polar bears, lemurs, wolves, elephants, leopards, horses, snakes, and also eagles are actually all depicted.

[HR] Black Flag Prologue/chapter 1
dont typically post much on reddit, mostly just lurking around. A friend and i have been working on a set of novels for a few years now, which were first initiated on the drunk/stoned ideas of our young selves. The novels follow our friend group (which explains the names) over different periods in time. May post this a couple times to get some exposure, and be sure to leave a comment if you feel like reading the next chapter!
Prologue:
A thin trail of smoke escaped Ryan's lips, rising slowly to the lacquered ceiling of the captain's quarters. The men sat, handcrafted pipes in one hand, Spanish women in the other. Not a word had been spoken among them in over 3 days. They were hungry. Hungry for plunder. Hungry for women. Hungry for death. A thick haze had settled into the room, George contributing with a long drag of his cherrywood pipe. Minutes passed, the only sound being George's continued inhalation, and the sound of a ship battling the indomitable sea. The crew of their famed ship "The Silence" had been in pursuit of a supply frigate carrying untold riches, among them the betrothed of Francois custeau, the current king of France. This was a treasure Ryan planned to take for himself. "w-where is the supply ship sir?" Ventured Zack tentatively, fearing the wrathful insanity of his captain. A slow grin crept across Ryan's wickedly handsome face. Only a thick moustache black as the fine tobacco he smoked was visible in the dimly lit cabin. Seemingly moments later, a call was heard from the crows nest. "Ship 5000 fathoms east!" bellowed sascha, his arms bursting with veins as he heaved the main sail. "Blood will be spilled this night." murmured George, exhaling an ungodly amount of smoke. Ryan grinned at the prospect of death, the glint of his golden teeth penetrating the smoke filled cabin. Ryan spoke in a voice so violently masculine, the men found themselves reaching for their weapons. "Raise the flags..." he said. "...tonight...we kill."
Chapter 1:
Their vessel was known and feared amongst all sailors. It's slick hull of red lacquered wood, and the sails, black as darkest night, inspired terror in any living creature on the face of the planet. The ship was built by Ryan and George's bare hands, and was so technologically advanced that it had to be operated by two captains. The crew of "The Silence" were but more infamous. From the tropics of the Caribbean to the exotic ports of Shanghai and Egypt, these men were famed as the greatest pirates of all time. Word of their exploits reached every navy in the open sea, and the men were wanted Not only by all women, But every independent country and state across the globe. Among the two captains of the vessel was Ryan. He was 7 feet tall, and wickedly handsome. He carried a flicker of insanity in his large black eyes, deep as the northern sea. It was said that no woman could resist his gaze. He was a man of ridiculous stature, with a chest comparable to a barrel of rum. His hair, black as a formless void, was kept slicked under his feathered cap. He had gained a nickname on the banks of libya; "the reaper", for where he sailed, death followed. His fourteen flintlock pistols were always kept loaded and strapped to his weathered jacket, and a bludgeon axe hung across his chisseled back. However, his most famous weapon was on his wooden hand designed in the unchartered waters of east mongolia. He lost his original appendage to "noby cock" a white whale rivalling the size of some islands, surrounded in myth and lore. On this wooden hand lay a cannon firing incendiary shrapnel rounds capable of reaching 420 m/s. Captain George was his most trusted accomplice, and the only man whom he always recognized, no matter how violent and clouded his mind became. George found Ryan mourning the death of his parents at the age of six, with them captaining their first crew by the age of eight. He was taller than Ryan, and toned beyond human evolutionary limits. A deep scar trailed down his sun withered face. Known as the greatest scoundrel on the seven seas, there was no woman he couldn't bed, and no man he couldn't best with a sabre. Tales told that he could impregnate a woman with a single wink. He kept his preferred artillery slung from his shoulder, a blunderbuss called "hell's door" which he cared for as his own child. The smooth brass buffed until it shone with the light of stars. On a crocodile skin belt rested his legendary Sabres: "Bloodscythe" and "windshear", engraved with runes and carvings of Egypt. He is recognized widely as the final living “blade”, a famed group of sword-wielding mercenaries long since lost to the unstoppable march of time. The blades were infamous for a secret form of swordsmanship that no man had ever lived to describe. “2000 fathoms out!” croaked sascha’s raspy voice from the crowsnest. Sascha was a wise man, he had been at sea since the beginning of time. Some say his blood was salt water. Sascha had only one eye, losing his other to a polar bear as a child. His remaining eye was clouded like an ocean storm. Sight was not necessary...wisdom guided his senses. He wielded an ironwood paddle, sharpened around the end. The paddle is the weapon of the T'challa, an ancient coastal tribe. He uses techniques long since lost to the sands of time. Sascha's word was highly respected among the crew. “Zack!, man the cannons” demanded captain George. Zack was an expert with explosives of any kind. Growing up on the coast of southern China Zack had mastered the art of destruction, but at a cost. At the ripe age of 17 zack was developing a new proximity grenade designed to explode on impact. However a miscalculation of gunpowder blew his beloved penis into smithereens. He was sleek and nimble. A master of hand to hand combat, he wielded two weathered shanks made of cambodian bamboo he used to murder an entire prison in taiwan. “I want some grub” complained zack before turning to his post. Georges eyes widened. He knew that the cook on board “the silence” was not to be rushed in making his dishes. A hulking figure could be seen lumbering from the lower deck. “FUCK YOU! YOU SHIT BREATHING BASTARD!” Yelled Matt in his thick irish accent, his jowls jiggling as he began to choke the man who had rushed his cooking. They found Matt in a wrecked ship off the coast of Siberia, his entire crew slaughtered. Matt had been living for two weeks off the carcasses of his dead crewmates. Since that day he would forevermore be known as “The Butcher”. Matt’s hanging gut was no reason to dismiss his tactical abilities. His two enormous siberian crafted machetes had seen many battles. Beneath the blubber, Matt had the mighty strength to lift ships out of the water. Matt called, “Charlie, you first! Come get your muck!” Charlie was the ship's most valuable gem. Ryan found him when he was only a baby. He had been pillaging a small village off the coast of scotland. His manic fury had caused him to murder every living soul in sight but one. After murdering Charlie’s mother, he came across the young fetus. Charlie looked at him with an innocent giggle and a loving stare. Ryan knew that boy was special. He decided to search for the speck of love he had in his black heart and take Charlie in as his own. 16 years later Charlie is a dashing young man. Standing 6 feet and 10 inches tall with a chiseled muscular body. He learned the ways of the sea quickly. By the age of seven he killed his first man, and by the age of nine he had laid his first seed. His eyes were blue as sapphires and were said to hypnotize any lady who locks into his gaze. He had mastered ranged warfare with his gold, fire crafted, triple barreled flintlock pistol. Up close, Charlie was infamous for his serrated dagger crafted from the bones of a great white shark he killed with his bare hands.

Micro Tuesday morning
Hello Friends,
Another quiet surf day for Sydney. As the pictures show, waves are in the ankle to knee high range. That’s too small for the point, and at least from the RealSurf crowsnest, I couldn’t see anybody in the water along the beach. As of 0830 wind was light from the SW under a mostly cloudy sky. The MHL buoy was seeing swell out of the SSE, 1.8 metres at 9 seconds. Tide is currently…

The strength of a team - and young people - are on display in “The Wolves“
As nine players of an indoor soccer team warm up for their weekly game, you're invited to an intimate glimpse into the lives of The Wolves.
The 2017 Pulitzer Prize nominated play isn't about a singular hero's journey or the troubled teen in need of saving, all in the name of sporting glory; this ensemble doesn't need to prove their individual self worth to be deserving of attention and compassion.
Instead, they learn and grow together as a natural progression of (strained) friendship.
The Toronto cast proves that their chemistry is the crux of the show. It's no wonder that the original production in New York was honoured with an Off-Broadway Obie Ensemble Award.
The Wolves begins with high energy and overlapping dialogue at breakneck speed. The teens are casually discussing topics ranging from Cambodian genocide, to tampons, Harry Potter and college soccer scouts, while chiding one another and revealing their own personalities and insecurities.
These players are attempting to assert themselves (or not), and they're refreshingly honest and witty. They navigate certain conversations with some measure of maturity, and approach others with an "OMIGOSH" attitude and brush aside the effects of multiple concussions.
Adults often only see teenagers from this superficial level, reduced to merely squawking gossip. But, in truth, uninformed conversations continue well into adulthood, as do the awkward silences and racial assumptions.
It's incredibly arrogant to think we've somehow outgrown ignorance by the magical age of 18. This is the same arrogance that lead adults to dismissing the plight of young people, so writer Sarah DeLappe offers the audience the opportunity to see deeper into what we're typically missing.
"It's [also about] the dynamic of how we fit in with a group, where you stand and how that's constantly shifting, especially during a time when you're trying to figure out who you are," Hallie Seline told the Women's World Football Show during opening week of the Toronto production.
The Wolves is co-produced by The Howland Company and Crow’s Theatre. Seline, costar Ruth Goodwin and director Courtney Ch’ng Lancaster, as well as several others on the creative team, are members of The Howland Company, an independent theatre company founded by young artists to tell the sort of stories relevant to them.
"The Howland Company has been trying to get this show to Toronto for two and a half years," said Goodwin.
"This has been a really long time coming for us. The fact that it's opening this week is so exhausting, but so exciting. I feel like I'm dreaming."
The play is set in an unspecified suburb in middle America and players are simply known by their jersey numbers. This gives the characters a certain universality - they could be any one of us, anywhere. At the same time, their numbers and places on the team are thoroughly ingrained in their identities.
They're acutely aware that the boys' team has a more qualified coach than their own hungover replacement, which forces captain #25 (Rachel Cairns) to step up and really find her voice as a leader.
#2 (Annelise Hawrylak) is blissfully sheltered by her religious upbringing, but she's kind and one of the first to befriend #46 (Ula Jurecka), the new kid who's as talented of a striker as she is socially inept. #8 (Seline) is tirelessly upbeat with a childlike innocence and excitement.
In contrast, profanity laden #7 (Aisha Evelyna) is unapologetically self-confident and inseparable from #14 (Brittany Kay), who feigns the characteristics of her best friend. Equaling their sense of humour is #13 (Heath V. Salazar), the high energy jokester unafraid of being silly or speaking up. These strong personalities don't intimidate #11 (Goodwin), the well read instigator of the team's varied debates.
"The thing with these girls is that they all get on each other's nerves," said Goodwin, "but they all love each other so much and they're a unit and a phenomenal team."
"That's the beauty of this play. They're flawed, annoying, funny, caring, incredibly intelligent women, who then go out and play an amazing game of soccer every week."
Almost entirely silent is their goalkeeper, #00 (Amaka Umeh), an academic over-achiever struggling with her anxieties.
Early in the play is an impressively choreographed scene of the team doing passing drills, all while hitting their marks and perfectly timed dialogue, all nonstop. The fast pace and lightness of the first half then gives way for a slowed and emotionally heavy second half that's kicked off by an intense solo scene by #00. Burpees be damned.
This newfound stillness makes your heart race as you're piecing together the events of their past week.
Remember how you felt when the Canadian Women's Soccer Team battled hard against the United States at the 2012 Olympic quarter-finals? We were devastated, but everyone eventually smiled through the tears because we were so proud of them.
The search for closure isn't easy, but we, and The Wolves, manage it together.
The Wolves is on stage at the Streetcar Crowsnest Theatre until October 27. Several post-show talk back sessions with special guests are scheduled. Purchase tickets or make a donation to support local theatre.
