D.Va from Overwatch Requested via #sixfanarts challenge. I decided not to contribute to the ocean of classic D.Va artworks and chose different skin for her. Enjoy.

As we all know, Overwatch takes place in the future. Last I remember, it was in the 2070's. Regardless, it is clear that decades have passed since 2016.

So what's up with D.va's slang?

She says stuff like "cringe", "BRB", "noobs", "skill issue", and etc, all terms used nowadays. It's weird for to her to use that vocabulary, no matter what way you look at it:

D.va likes using outdated slang. This does some have some merit if her Cruiser skin has any shred of canonicity. But I doubt that. There's also the question of how she learned this slang. Does D.va like watching old VODs of streamers from the early 21st century? Is she a history nerd? Who knows.

The slang in the current future of Overwatch has somehow made an exact loop back to current slang. Such an occurrence is incredibly unlikely. Language (and slang by extension) is sporadically, constantly, and chaotically changing, like a Junkrat grenade's trajectory. For terms to repeat meaning perfectly sounds impossible.

This is all made more confusing with one of Soldier 76's lines.

"I don't understand your generation." - Soldier 76 eliminating D.va

According to my calculations, Soldier would have been a little kid when this slang came about. His older cousins would have been saying this all the time. How does he not understand?

Now of course, technically this is all moot. D.va uses this slang because we use this slang. You can even see the small shift in slang through the change from Overwatch to Overwatch 2; From "noobs" to "skill issue". Blizzard makes D.va marketable to, as my beloved mutual @purplekoop put it so accurately, "horny gamer dudes". Thus, she reflects the modern slang. Clearly, this incongruity is here to stay. But we must not let that stop us from rationalizing this mystery.

Personally, I prefer option 1 to be the in-universe reason. For whatever reason, D.va is using her platform and popularity to make 20's slang popular again. Truly, a visionary of her time. Or behind.

ngl the only lore i consider worth checking is d.va's LMAO its just. so so good and interesting plus i adore mechs so it was like made for me. tho i'm going to explore more of symmetra and lifeweaver's lore so i'll let you know about it! as for the skins i have equipped for ashe... i only use her default one ansdnfng but i have so many d.va skins i use i feel it makes up for it. what are your favorite skins? also i WISH i could play mercy but my support skills are terrible terrible

my favorite skins ?!?!? oh my... ok to make it easy ill keep it to just dva and mercy..

for dva i LUV the nano cola skin, cruiser + the cat skins (black and white cat), edm (legendary battle pass) and sleighing. i haveee cruiser + black cat :) the rest i missed bc i only recently got good internet (i suffered the first 7 years we dont talk ab it)

and for mercy i like the pink bcrf skin ofc as well as atlantic all stars, royal gladiator, combat medic ziegler, and dr ziegler, her witch/mage skins, camouflage (archives) and the sugar plum fairy skin! very tragic that out of all of these i only have the witch skin. but to make up for it i have the eidgenossin skin from the summer games! from the lootbox days haha

also!! i like to think im pretty good w mercy! like im definitely not yknow masters level (speaking of i kinda avoid comp) but i feel like i at least Understand a lot of the techs used in masters. actually putting them to use and having an equally competent team is the tricky part (cant heal when im dead ykyk)
