Renfield doll update!

Being stuck home, recovering from a cold last week meant getting a lot of sewing done.

This is shirt #2 done and actually fits better and is the right shade now! I'll probably move that top snap, since when his vest is fastened in the movie the top button is undone so we can have that room.

Gangly man has his pleated pants, with pockets that work!

I've dug up my old doll tea set, so he gets his cuppa, plus the mini candy and a pair of spoons that came with jewelry -sized cups and plates. One craft store deck chair and some carpet samples and he's happily lounging and learning to relax, while waiting for me to make his jacket.

Quick update:

Hubby has been taken to A&E , but there's a high chance that he will be admitted.

So I'll be popping in and out whilst I make full use of his absence by doing a very thorough clean of the house.

I've already made a start a couple of days ago by cleaning the kitchen, dining room, hallway and front room floors. They were stinking to high heaven.

The front room windows have been cleaned on the inside. Outside need doing.

Front room needs more tidying (mainly his side)

And dining room table must be cleared so that I can focus on my sewing.

There's a pile of ironing to do. That can wait.

Oh gosh, I need a planner for all this.

Are you named after anyone: Not specifically, but my parents had a lot of back and forth over what to name me (my Dad wanted something Irish, Mum was fine with that so long as she could spell it). Apparently they were watching TV one night and there was a presenter with my name on, and both my parents liked it, so Dad looked up the proper Irish spelling and voila!

When was the last time you cried: last week when there was a sudden power cut and it was just me bc my parents away and I got a very big fright and was very stressed 🥲

Do you have kids: No, but I do have a 4 year old nephew who I do not get to see often enough bc London’s so far away, but he’s an utter sweetheart 

Do you use sarcasm a lot: Yes it’s quite a problem

Do you have any pets: We have two, Molly and Tibbs. Molly is an almost 12 year old mixed breed terrier, and Tibbs is a 17 year old prince tabby cat

Mikey often self-isolates, going back to his apartment and curling up on his mattress, pulling his blankets over his head to block out at least a little bit of the light and noise. If you're dating him, or very close friends, he might drag you into cuddles, burying his face into your shoulder and just staying there, quiet.

There's nothing a warm and sweet cuppa won't at least make feel easier to manage, and they have quite the herbal collection to mix and match from depending on what the trouble is. Valerian, for instance, is a wonderful sleep aid, provided you make the right strength for your body weight. Too much, though... And you won't be waking back up.

Jessica often escapes into her sewing, or a good book. Sewing is meditative, but still requires enough focus to keep stitches even and neat and to not stab yourself, so it provides just as much of a mental escape from any worries as immersing herself in a book does.

Jack will seek you out immediately for cuddles, but if he can't find you or you're busy, he'll slink off to the woods. There's something about being among the pines that's soothing to some deeper part of his mind, all the sounds and smells - the smells!!! - that can be found there. Wifey has been getting me caught up on one of our favorite youtube news highlights and boy oh boy is it ever a trial on my sanity, like bro I know I've had my head in the books but surely there's only so much I could have missed it's not like I've been under a rock!!!

Nope. 'Pparently not.

I long for the simplicity of my farm. Wake up, feed the chickens, water the garden, clear the land, get the next day's water, cook the dinner, bathe in the creek, and go to bed under the stars listening to the sounds of the forest. I know it was The Bad Times, and it's not like I want them back as they were, but in the future? Done right?

Wake up late, make my tea, feed, water, and milk the animals (goats, alpacas, rabbits, chickens, turkeys, peacocks, guinea fowl, geese, ducks, pigs, and a couple of cows and horses) and have a cigarette and a cuppa while I sit on my porch and prep for client sessions. Look out on my perfect little view of critters.

I'm gonna set up two little pods in opposite corner living spaces of my tea garden, which won't have a line of site to my house, and will ideally be on a piece of property that has it's own address. One is going to be a little office pod with a lovely little half bath, waiting room, and private office for me to work from. I don't know if I'll ever want to go into private practice, but if I do, I want to be prepared. And in the meantime, I can use it as a little breakroom for myself while seeing clients telehealth through the practice I work for. The other is going to be a lovely little 4 season meditation room. Maybe I can hold classes! Meditation for the non-meditator, lmao

So I see clients on the swing shift, do the finishing touches on the dinner I prepped the night before (in this world I do a lot of sous vide and crock pot and slow bake cooking, the infrequent shoving something in the oven during my break), turn the animals in for the night, and we eat supper at 10 like proper Italians.

Settle in with wifey for the night to watch a show, and turn in for the night.

Days off are for shearing, riding, sewing, harvesting, planting, and the occasional spa day.

I'm going to make this happen for myself, one way or another. I just wonder what the path will look like.

Maybe i should, before we can sign the lease. i dont use any of my things but my costumes. My clothes and plushies will fit in the car just fine. Maybe i could go. I might even be able to bring my computer and sewing machine and yarn. I'd have to leave cuppa, but she'll be fine. Rafi would be fine. Mom would help rafi.

Maybe. If i was alone. I could do it. Maybe, without the added worry and stress, i could do it. or maybe it would be a humiliating flailing exercise in futility.

Maybe it's worth it to try, nothing says I have to come back alive.

Would it change anything? It could change the world for me, and wouldn't that be worth the risk?

TEA COSY TUTORIAL, three ways.

There’s nothing like a warm cup of tea and, the best way to do so, is to have a handy tea cosy, and if it is handmade, the better!

In these days, when there is much more time, and with those scraps that don’t even get to remnants, I had my mind set to make three different tea cosies to give you some ideas about what to do with them.

There are tea cosies for all, from the most simple ones with a plain fabric, to the most modern ones, that take the shape of lovely pets or objects around the house. Trying to make them as stylish as possible and taking into account all the little details. with patchwork being my aim, I designed a cupcake with frosting.

A tea bag.

And an Easter egg.

It’s an ideal project as pass time, as a necessity, to share it and spend time with a family member, or simply to enjoy the hustles of sewing, from creating something new from scraps.
