"mmmmm." jealousy isn't an emotion that cyrus harbors often so naturally, when faced with it, he doesn't really know what to do. he certainly didn't think that he'd be watching some guy hit on his girlfriend at the front desk reception whilst checking out, effectively pulling cyrus out of his studies at the table in the corner. even when monica mentions she's happily taken, the guy wasn't fazed whatsoever, bad-mouthing cyrus within earshot despite not knowing that he was even the aforementioned boyfriend. he knows that he shouldn't be miffed by it, not when monica hardly batted an eye at the sleaze ball, but every tucked away insecurity surfaces and all of a sudden the coffee and donuts placed before him aren't appetizing anymore. "i know." he clams up, only lifting his head to give her a tiny unconvincing smile, before pushing his breakfast away and going back to his work.

28. Does your mc have a favourite childhood toy? If so, what was it? Do they still have it with them?

I think both 🌙 Elland and 🧨 Cyrus had some sort of a Phoenix toy growing up, since the bird is on their family crest and they loved listening to stories about Firebirds as kids. Elland probably ended up giving his toy to Cyrus, who absolutely still keeps it somewhere in his room. Not at Hogwarts, but back home. At Hogwarts Cyrus tries to either transfigure things into Phoenixes / find the real bird / create an automaton of one (transfigure little metal pieces like cogs and such and make it come to life with magic — idea taken from his artificer class in DnD). Elland was a brave boy giving up his toys: he's an older brother and he has to lead by example!

☀️ William grew up a spoiled baby with a loooot of toys. Mostly plushies of animals and magical beasts. I want to give him some something cliché, like a bear, or perhaps a puffskein toy — the biggest fluffiest toy he has! He would turn his toys into a court of plushies, having tea ceremonies, talking gossip, unloading his grand nobleman plans onto them. Don't tempt me to turn his first display of magic into 5-year-old Will, making all his toys come to life ("About time you rose up, my warriors!") and march down to the main living room to parade them in front of his parents. Will doesn't have a canon "first magic" moment, and now my brain is hitting me with this. You are welcome. And yes, he still has all his toys at home!

🌸 Lilith — I really want her to have some traditional-style carving, maybe a bear figurine. She has it with her at Hogwarts, too: age doesn't matter. It's her spirit, and she honours it appropriately. It was a big help in Durmstrang, emotionally, helped her toughen up.

Before her parents became successful merchants, they were rather poor and lived in a village. Of course, she had some simple toys, like dolls made out of hay and dry grass, adorned with some pretty red ribbons Lilith's mother managed to exchange for come good they grew. But when her magic manifested, the villagers started fearing her. Even before then, she's been the kid coming up with crazy stories but it was not taken seriously until that moment. It got to the point that her parents seriously thought of moving, and at the time it was the worst thing possible cause they'd have to rebuild from scratch.

The villagers' memories were obliviated when the local magic enforcement finally located Lilith, and she got accepted to Koldovstoretz. Her parents took to selling things seriously since they didn't have money to afford education for Lilith, so the first couple of years were tough. But with her being at school for most of the year, they were able to travel, and eventually made some good money, took opportunities they otherwise couldn't have.

She was gifted a small carved figurine of a bear sometime between the villagers starting to push Lilith and her family away and Lilith leaving for school. It came from an old hag living on the outskirts of the forest: she was ostracized for magical reasons as well, and although she didn't have the kind of magic we are used to in HLHP, she had some older magic, letting her brew potions from most regular ingredients, influencing weather to some degree, communicating with animals, and so on. Lilith didn't have much contact with her since she was warned to never come near, but nobody can tell Lilith what to do, right? The bear gift was meant to protect her and guide her, and it did, imbued with some forgotten folk magic.

Lilith unknowingly put a lot of herself into the bear, magically and otherwise. The fact that she seems to be stronger than she should be now, at Hogwarts, it's not a coincidence. The figurine affected Lilith most when she spent a year in Durmstrang, enhancing her wish to become stronger after all the bullying at school. This bond shall only grow. Lilith has the most potential to be an MC, and yes, she'd take the power in the repository for herself. Sorry, cute question about childhood toys *wheeeze* 🤣

29. What kind of music would your MC like? Is there a reason?

🌙 Elland is used to instrumental music because he's been taught to play a few instruments since he was a kid. He never gave the piano a go, but some of his favourite compositions are by Frederic Chopin, followed closely by Franz Liszt and Claude Debussy. In addition, in modern AU he leans towards indie and rock, and he does homework while listening to chill-hop, lo-fi, dark ambience and such.

☀️ William appreciates some really complicated pieces of music. He wanted to play the piano when he was a kid but his hands don't have the range, they are rather small, so he ended up giving it up in favour of art. But he still loves classical music. The amount of times he and his parents snuck into the muggle world for some life performances! He's a frequent opera-ballet-goer in both HL and modern time, and loves musicals in modern AU. He'd be into 1950s-90s music of all kinds. Doesn't like anything harsh sounding, like metal. He likes fun pieces, too, since he enjoys dancing, and those don't have to be ballroom classics: he can very well dance to some folk music at Three Broomsticks and have a blast.

🧨 Cyrus and 🌸 Lilith are all in on the fun stuff, music in pubs, street performers, smaller and amateur artists — they love the honesty and uniqueness. The faster the rhythm, the better! Give them drums and loud unhinged fiddling!

30. Tell us something you love about your MCs!

Answered here. In short, I love the way they overcome hardships. For Elland — overstepping his morals and living with his choice, for Will — pushing past his fear.

For Lilith and Cyrus — they are unapologetically themselves, with all their flaws: they turn those into their strengths. I can say the same about Will as well.

The Clans of Wormville

The lore article on clans needed a refresh - so I remade it. I think that this might be a fun post even for my old readers, since it comes with loads of new pictures!

The society my Sims, the cult called Followers of the Entity, live in, places a special emphasis on its so-called "clans." After the Tragedy, the violent event that chased the surviving members to found a new town, Wormville, there were 10 clans. Would you like to meet them?

24 founders. 10 clans. And I dragged them all from their graves for a photoshoot.

But first, a quick primer on some terminology:

clan - in the worm culture, a clan is a unit (mostly familial, but that’s not a rule) that shares the same surname, and is usually united in politics and lives under the same societal expectations

stern/lax - stern clans care a lot about internal hierarchy and the leader gets more authority with other members, lax clans only have a leader nominally and to represent them in communal matters

heir/head - heir is usually the leader, but stern clans use the word “head” and call the next-in-line the “heir” instead

roles - the fields where the clan is known and expected to be active

Anora

Some view the Anoras as the exemplary fall from grace, the clan of some of the leading minds of Wormville in Gen 0 becoming the nest of hedonists and homebodies in Gen 1. Is that reputation born only from elitism and classism, or has the populous clan truly lost the grip on their place in the settlement’s ecosystem?

The clan Anora of gen 0 consisted of the siblings Ace the Painter and Aileen the Architect, and Aileen's wife Adora the Doctor.

The Anoras of gen 1 are only Mina the Toymaker and her husband Cyrus the Smuggler. They have 6 children.

Beldine

Before the Tragedy, the Beldines were already filthy rich and full of rebellious spirit and desire to uproot the social status quo. Now, when the eccentric Fortune Sim brothers Alastor and Ares managed to stick their claws deep into the politics of the new settlement as well as still roost at the top, will they stay faithful to their innovator ideals, or become cogs of the old hierarchy instead? That is, if the mistakes and sins of reckless Victor don’t destroy them first…

The Beldine brothers were both Fortune Sims, but very different - the older Alastor (in black) was very responsible, ambitious and family-minded, while Ares (in blue sweater) was a freedom-loving playboy. Ares ended up being much more successful and outliving both his brother and Alastor's husband Aaron, having no choice but to assume Alastor's role in the end.

A faux-incest scandal tore the Beldine family apart, and the feud with the Elaho-Inipps drenched them in blood. But despite that, the clan makes the best of it. Victor's arcane "pastime" is definitely transforming the clan's vibe...

Also pictured: Percy the Street Rat, Victor's unfortunate half-brother. They were never close in life, but in a better world, they could've been, and Percy definitely deserves his spot.

Celwitch

The Celwitch clan drives a hard bargain. They built a reputation of those who never take a knee, never back down, even when faced with the worst misfortune. So far, no Celwitch in Wormville has died of old age or even lived to see elderhood. That doesn’t stop them from expanding both their numbers and their business ambitions, though, nor does it prevent them from periodically raising the price of Wormville’s groceries.

Front row: the siblings Adalyn the Athlete and Aurelius the Grocer, back row are their respective husbands. None of these buggers got even closer to retirement age.

The gen 1 Celwitches are plentiful: Krystal the Grocer, his cousin Xenia the Entrepreneur, his first husband Elphius the Architect and second wife Genevieve the Journalist. Wait. There's one more. Actually, the oldest Sim in this picture - the little boy in the background, Xenia's older brother, Dean. He died tragically in childhood. The rest of the Sims pictured are the gen 2 Celwitch kids! The question is: Will at least one of them finally die of old age?

Devir

The Church

Now, equating the clan Devir with the Church is not really fair - they didn’t used to be the only priest family, and not nearly every Devir is as gung-ho about spirituality as it would seem. In modern Wormville, though, they don’t have a choice but to embody the entire institution of the Church of the Entity, and that has many unique benefits… and quite a few no less unique pitfalls. Besides being the clan of the priest, the Devirs are also famous for their dedication to self-sustainability when it comes to food, and many of them farm and fish.

The sitting couple are the young priest who led the group of survivors to Wormville, Archibald, and his wife, Amanda the Sailor. Behind them stand Avery, Archibald's successor, and his wife Audrey the Drag Queen.

Bonus:

Audrey all dressed up! (at least as much as I could make her shamefully lacking in drag-specific cc)

Boasting 10 currently living Sims and spanning 3 households, the Devirs are currently the largest clan! They also have one of the two surviving adult mages, Lester the Witch.

Fun facts:

The photoshoot for gen 0 took place in The Priest's Home.

The name Devir is a reference to R.A. Salvatore's drow books. (Un)fortunately, these Devirs bear no resemblance to the dark elf house they're named after.

Elaho-Inipp

Once upon the time, the Elaho-Inipps used to be the Elahos and the Inipps, however the only surviving Inipp heiress invited the sole Elaho survivors, a pair of twin artists, to live with her as her equal partners and hyphenated her name with theirs. Functionally, though, it’s the same old clan Inipp rebranded. It’s said that they used to be able to trace their origins to the royal Timelords of Ticktop, but that might be just a false brag. They definitely used to live like royalty, partially be treated as such, and they might’ve carried this mindset to modern Wormville as well, though nowadays they would rather be known for their enthusiastic patronage of arts and support of the bohemian lifestyle. Should they be worried that their long and brutal conflict with the Beldines overshadows both?

Strange, but extremely talented, Elaho twins found more than a patron in Agatha Inipp, let's just say. The scandalous threeway relationship soon became nothing next to the unscrupulous occultist Agatha committing two semi-Church-sanctioned ritual murders to save the lives of her loved ones, starting a full on clan war with the Beldines. Oops.

The Elaho-Inipps of gen 1 recently became a member short. The war that started to save the life of Lester (now Lester Devir) took the life of their younger brother Balthazar (purple hair), as if it was meant to be a twisted exchange all along.

Fun facts:

The adult alien in the picture is a La Fiesta Tech Sim, Stella Terrano. She's currently the only premade in Wormville.

The pose of Serenity the Conservationist, the head-to-be of this clan, is obviously made for a different chair with higher armrests. However, this chair is called "Serenity Sitter," so I had no choice but to sit Serenity in it.

Fiera

The Protectors

The Fieras fashion themselves the sword and the shield of the cult, the peacekeepers, the gentle guarding force that protects both from outside threats and traitors. The head usually rushes to obtain and maintain the position of a General. But the trust of their community had been broken when they failed to prevent the Tragedy, and their violent and authoritative demeanor now only serves to further alienate them from the people they claim to serve. Like a keg full of gunpowder, will they be Wormville’s life-saving ammunition, or are they just an explosion waiting to happen?

Young Aranni Fiera was barely an adult when the Tragedy happened and she was urged by the more senior members of the guard to abandon her post and run, so she could live and be the future of the clan of the Entity's protectors. In Wormville, she married a miserly young scholar named Ashley, and together they ruled with an iron fist - her quickly becoming the General, and him scheming his way to the top of the local mob.

One would think that the children of the General will continue in her footsteps, but in truth, Iulius, Quincy and Aranni II. (no longer a part of this clan, married into the Beldines) are all nothing but absolute mess. Iulius compensates for his insecurities with cruelty and pedantry excessive even for his mother's standards, Quincy is still waiting for her big break and desperately trying to outrun time, not realizing that she and her mean girl ways have most probably peaked already in high school, and the only thing holding the volatile and capricious Aranni II.'s marriage together is the fact that her husband is almost as toxic as she is.

Gere

The Watchful

They don’t own anything anymore.

The clan Gere was mostly known for its very outgoing and eccentric matriarch, Anoinette. She was very involved in many interpersonal scandals and served the Church by constantly monitoring her neighbors. It’s really no surprise the Geres were obsessed with visual record keeping, and also participated actively in the birth and running of Daily Worm, the settlement’s first and only tabloid news source. However, economic conditions and personal choices of the heir Genevieve led to them becoming a part of the much bigger and better situated clan Celwitch instead of clinging to their own identity.

Antoinette Gere with Ace Anora and Andreas Kent, her lovers and roommates. It all started as a tale of friendship, passion and outrunning financial struggle, but took an incredibly dark and ugly turn somewhere. The triad raised three children, Hannah (Ace's daughter, biologically unrelated to the rest of the three), Genevieve (Ace/Antoinette) and Percy (Antoinette/Andreas).

After reaching adulthood, way before marrying Krystal Celwitch, Genevieve became a single mother. According to her, the father of her son, Percy II., was a random man out of town. It's a really funny coincidence how much young Percy resembles Genevieve's defacto step-father, Andreas.

Hanson

The Hermits

The Hansons are one of the smaller-growing clans, but what they lack in numbers they make up for in capital - and as uncomfortable as it might make the two “traditionally” rich clans (Beldine and Elaho-Inipp), thanks to the huge efforts of its Fortune Sim founders (and even bigger stroke of luck), the Hansons might as well be the most well-off clan in current Wormville. Their founders were none too social, though, and neither is Regina, despite her earnest efforts to fill the role of the town’s healer. How long is their wealth going to last, and will it buy them happiness?

Anita and Abigail Hanson were both businesswomen, and despite struggling at first, they made it far in the end. Too bad that their family life panned out much, much grimmer.

In gen 1, both of the Hanson daughters succumbed to the plague (cold), but thanks to the genie lamp used twice, Regina (robber mask, ginger hair) now lives. Just how steep the price was is better left for Abigail to tell when she's finally ready. It's hard for her to talk about it, but she doesn't want to die without Regina learning the truth.

Jilleni

The Inbreds

The only clan whose moniker is fully negative, and the only clan that had to start from zero in generation 1, but also a clan that is inventive, astute and determined to fight their unjustly earned infamy, all that and more are the Jillenis. They’re not actually inbred, the mean-spirited label stems from the disgraced Beldine heir Beatrice marrying Bennett who was raised alongside her, however without any actual blood relation or formal sibling status. Something like that is still hard to bounce back from in a small town, but Beatrice’s charisma, friendly attitude and the political training of a former Beldine heiress coupled with Bennett’s kindly, easy-going nature paints their future rather bright.

Some think that Aisha Jilleni was the lover of at least one of the Beldine brothers, or their actual sister (or at least cousin!), however none of that is true. There was nothing but strong platonic friendship throughout their entire lives, and the Beldines let her live in their mansion as their housemate, because she had nowhere else to go. She raised her son Bennett (whose other mother was Antoinette Gere) alongside Alastor's daughter Beatrice. Aisha and Alastor saw their children as siblings, though, and said children getting a different idea when they grew up was... disturbing to them enough to disown Beatrice and throw both of the young lovers out.

However, Beatrice took what she learned preparing to lead the Beldines, and applied it for her own family. In gen 1, the Jillenis prosper. They have never strived and will never strive to be a conventional family, though, and they live with Felicia and Hannah Devir as a polycule of four.

Kent

The Unlucky

They don’t own anything anymore and actually never did.

The Kents were represented by the controversial socialite Andreas, whose legacy turned out to be that of wrongs and scandals. His son, Percy, was a reviled troublemaker who died tragically before he really had the time to turn his life around. Percy’s daughter then automatically forfeited her surname, and thus her clan’s independent status, when her other parent remarried, by the virtue of being only a toddler (and those tend to have problems leading clans).

Andreas had a reputation for his looks, since as far as conventional 21st century Western beauty standards go, the randomization method I used to sculpt the faces of the gen 0 Sims was very kind to him. Here he is next to Ares Beldine, since he agreed to father Ares's heir. Ares chose Andreas explicitly for his looks and basically nothing else, hoping the child inherits his brain and Andreas's exterior. It... let's just say that it didn't happen.

"Between the conventional beauty of Andreas Kent and the powerful charisma of Ares Beldine, there was certain excitement about their offspring. Unfortunately, Victor Beldine didn't inherit either. So, those are the 10 (now 8) worm clans! The info here all pertains to gen 0-1, and will be obsolete in several months, but for that, I'm going to write an update. I hope you've enjoyed this photo edition of the post. I had fun with the posing (especially with some of the gen 1 families), even though I must admit it was a bit too much posing for my liking. (I'm horrible at that.) It took me 11 hours in total to get the screenshots XD It was like herding cats - but the cats keep teleporting all over the place randomly, making inappropriate faces, clipping into each other and throwing errors. (I'll post the "bloopers" in a separate post)

I'm thinking about redoing the Notable Places post, too. It's wonkily written and a lot of those builds could use better screenshots, and many of them don't even look like that anymore. Not to mention that there are new ones that would deserve to make the cut.

I'm also thinking about redoing the Gen 0 intro posts, because they're, frankly, so ugly and overwhelming - they deserve a soft rewrite and a hard redesign, with proper 8 Sims in 3 posts instead of 16 in one and 8 in the other.

Cyrus doesn’t expect to see you waiting for him at JFK, the same airport the two of you said goodbye in four years ago. It gives him a sense of déjà vu, because you were wearing the same expression back then too. A mix of sadness and propriety. You don’t like to wear your emotions on your sleeve, he knows that he’s to blame for that.

“Hey.” He says quietly before his eyes flicker to Detective Green who stands alongside of you.

He doesn’t know what you’ve told your partner, so he hangs back because things like this have the tendency to get awkward and he doesn’t want that for you. He’s done enough damage over the years.

It doesn’t matter that he wants to embrace you, that he wants to bury his face in the curve of your throat and take comfort in your presence. He lost the right to that when he took up his posting with the Intelligence Division.

You let Green take the lead while you buy the three of you coffee. The truth is you don’t know what to say because the Tommy that you knew wouldn’t have gotten involved with hookers and dope, he was a family man through and through. You see the blow land, the disbelief in his features. Cyrus looks to you for confirmation, and you incline your head just enough for him to read it as a nod.

“That’s not my brother.” He reiterates, shaking his head. “He wouldn’t cheat on his wife; he wasn’t a weak person. He beat cancer five years ago.”

“When was the last time you talked to him?” You ask him, your fingertips toying with a sachet of sugar. You don’t take it, but you need something to do with your hands because this situation feels like it’s devolving. The more information you give, the more you can see Cyrus withdrawing into himself.

“I don’t know.” He hesitates before taking a sip from his coffee. “He called me a few weeks ago but I was seeing to a situation, I couldn’t ring back.”

There’s guilt there, you can sense it under the surface. He looks at you and then looks away, swallowing hard. You suspect that he did the same thing to Tommy that he did to you four years ago. One phone call when he got to Morocco and then it was like he disappeared off the face of the earth.

“If it wasn’t a paid date or a girlfriend who else would have wanted your brother dead?” Ed asks him and Cyrus purses his lips together into a grim line. You can see the cogs turning in his brain, that steely glint in his eyes as the mood starts to shift.

“Hey.” You say tapping the back of his hand with your fingertip to draw his attention to you. He tilts his head; his jaw clenching and you fix him with a fierce look of your own. “Do not even think about it. They won’t let you work on this case Cyrus.”

He says nothing, he simply picks up his cup of coffee stares straight ahead. You already know that your words have fallen on deaf ears. Nothing is going to stop Cyrus Lupo finding out what happened to his brother.

Cyrus causes problems from the outset. It starts with using Green’s name at the M.E’s office to confirm his theory regarding Tommy’s cancer and continues to him challenging Van Buren regarding the classification of the death. He practically begs the Lieutenant to work the case.

When you hear the details of what he’s been up to abroad, you feel your heart stutter in your chest because you can see his self-destructive tendencies playing out in an international arena.

Lupo broke some big cases in some unfriendly parts of the world, and he did it with no back up, no warrants, no weapon, Van Buren tells you. Your gaze strays to your ex-lover on the other side of the glass and part of you wants to strangle him. The police officer in you wants to commend him. He’s still managing to cause conflict in you, even after all this time.

His persistence and stubbornness pays off. With the additional death it’s decided he’ll work that part of the case alongside the two of you. Green resents it and you pinch the bridge of your nose because already you’re getting a migraine from the potential ramifications of having Cyrus back in your life.

When the videos show up, you see the moment that he starts to fall apart. The bullpen is empty, there’s just the two of you seated at the same desk watching Driscol’s suicide as Nolan interviews him. When the cursor hovers over the next file, you place your hand on his arm to stop him. He looks at you, and you already know that no matter what you say, he’s going to watch Tommy’s video.

You watch it with him. Tommy as he sits there, hooked up to the machine, the moment he presses the button, the second the light dies in his eyes. You tilt your head towards Cyrus as the devastation hits him, his shoulders start to quake, and he sucks in deep shaky breath and then another trying to compose himself.

“Come here.” You say softly and he complies burying his face into the hollow of your shoulder as he clutches onto you like a lifeline.

The first sob vibrates through your entire body, you can feel his anguish as his hands grip your shirt the emotion forcing it’s way through his system. There’s no protocol for grief, it’s violent and gut wrenching, it tears at your insides, eviscerating you and leaves your guts spilling out all over the floor. Your fingertips run through his curls, a soothing motion from a time he used to wake up beside in the throes of a nightmare, tears staining his cheeks and his heart pounding in his chest.

“I’ve got you.” You whisper as you cradle him close. “It’s alright, I’ve got you.”

I think Cyrus' biggest regret is not standing up to his father more. He wants to, but memories of the night he received the scar on his face keep him firmly in his place.

Simon has a confirmed body count of 2 other Cogs and has done thousands of dollars in property damage. (His fellow employees ARE company property, after all, and he turns on them constantly). He hasn't had any confirmed kills on Toons, but has come close a handful of times.

Cyrus hurried to carefully hang the visitor's coat above the radiator and then returned behind his counter to assess his quote-on-quote order. He eyed the variety of his treats on display and pondered what would best pay back for the trouble caused by their sudden crash.

"...Certainly," he assured the other man. "How about something salty, something sweet, any special drink... and endless refills on plain coffee or tea until you're thawed out?"

"Hmph!" Mrs. Carmine sputtered with a dry laugh from her table. "How come the Pendejo never bumps into me?"

"What's a Pendejo?" Frank asked.

"Nothing!" Cyrus interjected, turning his worrisome and flustered face back to Alastor after chastising both the toddler and the lady with his stern eyes.

Upon being prompted, he handed his guest a menu that was printed in a style to resemble the work of an ancient typewriter, with cogs and gears as embellishments on its corners. The drinks and food items were all named according to a steampunk theme as well. Including but not limited to Cinnamon Clockwheels, Steampunked Buns and Brass Roast Coffee.

"If uhm, if you're hungry for more, I have some leftover lunch from yesterday in the back. I live here. Upstairs, I mean," Cyrus stuttered, pointing a finger up as if his explanation wasn't clear enough.

Alastor took note of the names as he handed his coat off to the taller man (but not without removing his wallet and phone), glad to be rid of at least part of his sopping wet misery.

A smirk tugged at Alastor's lips at Cyrus' little quip back. The radiator would be better. He rose from his seat to go stand beside it-- he might as well! He didn't want to prolong his shivering and catch a cold, and hopefully being off to the side would get Carmine's (and the child's) eyes off of him.

"Are you sure? How many things?" Alastor asked ponderously. The petty part of him wanted to give the fellow a run for his money, while the more reasonable part contended that; it was a dangerous game. He didn't want to make enemies in this town before he'd had time to make allies. Still, though, he was quite hungry... and cold.

And the food did smell good.

If he could get a whole meal out of this, for free, then the dirty clothes and falling down would be worth his time.

"Do you have a smaller menu? I'm, well..." Alastor pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I need to get my eyes checked, ha!"
