turning to say an inside joke but no one gets it and the man in front of you isn't the man you meant to say it to. even though he looks like him. hes not him. not yet.

seeing with fresh eyes how jaded and bitter some of your coworkers were before they were mellowed out with time. you mourn people who don't exist yet

you mourn people who might not ever exist, what if the changes you make prevent your children from being born, soldier's children from being born. you wont see them for another decade at least anyway. what if you forget what they're supposed to be like. what if you forget your own childrens' faces. You repeat their names to yourself every night in bed. Tommy. Tanya. and.... and....

you're talking to Sniper and he acts like hes older and he knows better but you're a decade and some years older than him, you just don't look it.

you're talking to Heavy and hes over a decade older right now in the past than you'll ever get to be in the future. his life will be longer than yours will ever be. that's not fair.
