Daleks singing about how they’re dizzy. They’re so cute sometimes actually

feel free to ignore if you’re not doing gallifrey prompts anymore, but for the whump prompts: romana + gallifrey character of choice for ! or ✓
✓: waking up either adorably confused or painfully scared
The nightmares never ended the same way twice, but they always started the same way.
Cold. Hungry. Dark.
President of Gallifrey.
It was something to cling onto. It had been one of the only things left to her, in the end. Sometimes, they had even managed to take her name; but they could never make her forget the reason they hadn’t killed her yet.
I am President of Gallifrey.
She did not have the luxury of giving into the pain.
Shivering. Wet stone. What liquid?
Blood?
The Daleks liked their torture old school. That didn't stop them from using mental interrogation, of course, but they took a very human pleasure in physically abusing their captives. Anything went: starvation, slave labour, wound upon wound…
Silence.
That was the worst part. Nobody ever understood it—no, Leela did, a little, but then Leela might as well have been nobody—but even the agony of torture was still more bearable than solitary confinement.
They could leave her starving there. They could leave her bleeding out all over the floor. They could compound her torment without doing a thing. Her own mind would fill in the blanks for them.
They would leave her there for hours, battered and bruising, and then drag her out to drill her information. They would leave her there for days, and then switch it out for days of back-breaking work. They might have left her trapped in her cell for weeks at a time; she didn’t know. On Etra Prime, so badly hurt, she had lost control of her time sense completely.
Even now, it flickered, it flared. Even now, the seconds stretched out into eternities.
And that was how the nightmares always started. Alone, in the dark. Always waiting for the next blow to land, sooner of later.
Something would interrupt it, usually. She would escape, wander down a dreamland corridor. She would be stuck—but someone else would arrive. She would be dragged bodily to the interrogation chamber—
On the way, mazelike passageways would shift around her like so much Saharan sand—and how long ago that had been! A lifetime had passed since she had last set foot in that desert.
More than twenty years.
This nightmare, like all of them, fit somewhere into those twenty years.
Her cell, first.
I am Romana. Romana…
Romanadvoratna—
Romanatre—
I am President of Gallifrey.
In this night terror they came after not an hour’s rest. She staggered to her feet—they dug into her back—and then it was damp something-like-concrete against her bare feet for countless minutes, an endlessness of corners that seemed to twist of their own volition, walls that sprang up from nowhere.
And then the interrogation.
The voices—if they could be called that—grated against her mind.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW?
She sometimes thought those screeching commands must be to blame for the chronic headaches.
WHAT ARE GALLIFREY’S SECRETS?
Too many and too heavy to be revealed in one go. Even the Titan Atlas would hesitate to shoulder that weight.
MADAM PRESIDENT?
She shivered. That was not their usual line of questioning. Whither Unit 117?
MADAM PRESIDENT, ARE YOU QUITE ALRIGHT?
The dream shattered. She startled awake.
And as always, she woke up screaming her head off. It had never mattered if she screamed on Etra Prime; no one had ever heard, anyway.
She had learnt to hold back tears centuries ago. That was basic psychic training—the type the Doctor had casually and carelessly flunked. She had learnt to get around the spells of dizziness rapidly—when to sit, when to stand. She had never learnt to wake up quietly.
“Madam President,” Braxiatel repeated, standing a measured distance from her side, lightly concerned. Perhaps there was more worry to him than he was letting on; or perhaps he truly didn’t care. “Ah, you’re awake. Are you well?”
“Yes,” she said, as her voice came back to her. She used to scream so much, those twenty years. “I’m perfectly well.”
He nodded curtly, giving away nothing. “Your wish is my command, Lady President.”
“Thank you,” she said. “But I’m fine as I am.”
“Of course,” he said.
She almost asked him to stay. The weeks on end without contact with anything, even her blasted captors, came flooding back unbidden.
But no.
She would survive.
Alone, as usual.

Okay so some thoughts on Power of the Doctor.
Spoilers ahead.
What the fuck. I mean what the fuck.
That episode was so dizzying.
I mean we had Daleks and Cybermen (didn't really do much, chibbs bro learn how to use them properly or not at all).
The master being his devious self. His interactions with Kate, Ace and Tegan were amazing, and him in 13's clothes and the earring!
Ace and Tegan were beautiful and brilliant and I just love them. Also the previous incarnations and companions turning up was a beautiful nostalgic moment. (Paul McGann my beloved).
There should've been more thasmin content but I did tear up when she said goodbye.
And this is going to be an unpopular opinion but I hated the regeneration scene. Loved her last words, hated David Tennant coming back. I know this is to get more people back into Doctor Who again but I hated it. She should've regenerated into Ncuti and figured out a different way of bringing David back for the 60th.
All in all good but not bad episode might have to watch it again tomorrow for all of the bits I missed.
(I did shout fuck off really loudly when David Tennant appeared that I may have pissed off the next door neighbour (he's currently hoovering so I think I did) ).

Doctor Who: The Power of the Doctor (2022 Halloween Special)
Well, that's the end of the Thirteenth Doctor. Does anyone else feel like she still never quite hit her stride?
Cons:
Dan ended up being one of the most useless companions in Doctor Who history! I found him so charming and interesting to start, he had so much potential, but pretty much all his adventuring with the Doctor happened offscreen. We never got to establish a relationship between him and the Doctor properly.
And that's just generally true of so much of this Doctor's run. I loved the stuff with her and Yaz. There was a brief spark of something great with the Fam, there for a while. It sure was great to see Graham. But in terms of who this Doctor is, and what her specific vibe is, I don't think I ever really clicked in with it. It's not the acting, I think that was pretty damn solid across the board. It just felt like someone was holding these seasons back from reaching their full potential.
The plot got a little too messy and convoluted, and I'm going to praise the frantic energy in the "pros" section in a second, but honestly between the Master and the Daleks and the Cybermen and the cameos, I was getting a little dizzy with all the different stimuli, and I'm not sure I had a chance to properly appreciate much of what was happening on my screen.
After all that from Yaz and the Doctor, they couldn't even give us a goodbye kiss? Come on. They created a whole convoluted scenario so we could see 10 and Rose share a kiss, and Yaz and 13 can't even have a little goodbye peck on the lips? Sigh. That's a big disappointment.
Pros:
I did like the chaos, as I said. We started off strong with a space train and a Cyberman fight, we had plenty of crazy and wacky set pieces, with volcanoes exploding and Cybermen shooting themselves through a holograph of a future-Doctor, and a gang of companions around the console of the TARDIS... there was a lot of iconic imagery here, and even when I wasn't 100% clear on what the heck was happening in the plot, I honestly didn't care all that much, because I was still caught up in the energy.
Tegan and Ace are pretty great! I have no familiarity with Classic!Who at all, but these two had so much fun energy, and their chemistry with the Doctor was undeniable. We got some cute energy with our current regeneration, but also brief moments where they got to talk to their Doctors. Honestly, I felt more energy between those older Doctors reuniting with their companions than I ever got between this Doctor and, for example, Dan.
The Master's plot, and his desire to literally become the Doctor, makes no real sense whatsoever, but I will say that performance-wise I loved watching the Master be utterly deranged, and I did like the psychological aspect of the Master's obsession with the Doctor being... envy of her. Wanting to be her literally, because there's nothing else big enough to encompass his dissatisfaction and longing.
Also it was fun to see Vinder, but mostly because I've fallen extra in love with Jacob Anderson since the last time I watched this show and saw that character. He's a bad-ass. Best moment was the Master thinking that any friend of the Doctor's wouldn't shoot a gun at someone, and Vinder being like "BITCH you thought." That was pretty great.
WHY didn't Yaz and the Doctor share a kiss when they were sitting out on top of the TARDIS? Cowards. I'm just saying. But setting that aside, I loved how much their bond got to have a final spotlight. Even as the Doctor lists all the companions who traveled with her during this regeneration, it's Yaz who got to be with her last, before she goes off alone to meet whatever comes next.
And then the wonderful idea that Graham came up with, to create a support group for former companions! All of them sitting around and chuckling about the crazy adventures they've been on. I absolutely adore that idea and hope somehow we can check in with this group at some point in the future.
And then the regeneration itself! Honestly I'm going to reserve judgment about David Tennant. Obviously I love him, and it'll be fun to see him, but at the same time this feels like it's banking on nostalgia to a comedically absurd degree. Instead of judging those last twenty seconds, I'll judge Jodie Whittaker on her breathtaking mixture of sadness and joy in those last few seconds. She did a beautiful job with a role that suffered many years of extremely subpar writing for the show. I wish we'd done more justice to her time as the Doctor, but I'm glad we got to hang out with her for a while all the same.

The Countdown
Warning: Character death, sadness
You looked around and saw everyone talking about how to save the world from The Master, the Doctor's old academy friend. The only person to really know who the Doctor is. "I don't think that's going to work, he's taken almost half of the military out, soon all," Jack Harkness explains. Sarah Jane Smith shakes her head in disagreement. You look over at the other side of the center piece to see Martha Jones, Rose Tyler and Donna Noble and Mickey Smith putting a timey-wimey, space galactic device together. With DoctorDonna on their side, they got it done in a few minutes. The first time you met all of them was when the war between the Daleks happened, and you were glad you met all of them.
The first person who met you was Sarah, and her K-9 who talked, that surprised the hell out of you. The doctor brought her on board the TARDIS and immediately introduced you two. Sarah looked between you and the Doctor, her expression changing from friendly to something you didn't like. You straightened up, understanding the situation. That didn't bother you. You two spent time apart, or should I say she stayed apart from you. Of course, you two would exchange due to the current situation, but that was it. Finally, after a long day of preparing and running you were free. "Y/N," someone calls. You turn to see who it was calling and see Sarah standing there, guilt visible. "I just want to say how sorry I am for the way I've been treating you. It was childish and not so kind. I feel ashamed," She came forward. You didn't answer her right away, making sure she felt every second of discomfort waiting for a response. "I accept your apology." You offered her to help you with what you were working on.
The obstacles the doctor brings with him everywhere is what got you to stay with him through everything. The weeping angels, the Cyberman, the Master. He even told you himself that you lasted longer than any of his companions. You knew of some of their fates, you prayed everyday not to have the same. Something inside of you, something in your heart told you that it will eventually have to come to an end.
You shook the thought away and try your best to focus on what's happening in front of you.
"Hey," Jack comes up to you with a smile that looks like trouble and looks back at the crowed before ducking to your level. "I was thinking after we're done with this, we can...catch a drink?"
"Stop it!" The doctor yells.
"Can't I just have this?" He yells back, slightly serious. There banter made you chuckle, always. "I'd be happy to. I know a spot." You whispered.
You can see the doctor pop his head up from under the center piece.
The second person to meet you was Donna. You right away took her in as a friend, loving her wittiness. She was bold, fearless, and very pretty. "Donna! This is Y/N L/N. Y/N, this is Donna Noble." You smiled, looking from the doctor to the red head. "It's so nice to meet you. I heard a lot about you. You're my favorite." Donna's eyebrows raised, "Oh, really. I'm nothing special, I'm just a temp." You shook you head. "No. You're more than that." Donna's face dropped. You didn't see sadness, no it looked like a slight hint of glee.
“If we turn this vile here, it’ll give us a five second start, but it’ll delay us by 2 seconds.” The doctor explained. You shake your head, “It’s too risky.”
“We have no choice.” He says. His eyes boring into yours.
You look down in defeat. When the doctor says something, he sticks to it. Nothing to change his mind. “Let’s go.”
Everyone starts gathering their gear and heading out. You bend to pick up your gear when your heart starts beating fast. You stop and the beating spreads, plugging your ears and you become dizzy. Everything is moving so fast, the reality of losing the people you love and cherish kick in. “Are you okay?” Jack asks watching you stumble back. You shake your head, barely able to keep it together. Before you fall, Jack catches you, holding you tightly. The last thing you hear before blacking out was the doctor calling your name.
The third person you met was Rose, she immediately embraced you and the eye contact she had made you feel safe. "You are brilliant. The doctor told me the things you have done. Absolutely brilliant." Blush creeps up your cheeks from the praise. "I can also say the same about you. You practically saved the world," You praised back. The doctor smiled at your guy's conversation like a child with his favorite toy and went to help the crew.
The doctor stayed knelt by your side, fanning you with a metal lid from the Tardis's center. Everyone stood around, not knowing what to do, worriedness on their faces. Either stay down like a coward, or fight with your people. Your mind screamed. You inhaled deeply before opening your eyes, still affected by the fog. The doctor smiled greatly, showing his pearly whites.
The fourth person you met was Mickey, who wasn’t so friendly to begin with. He seemed distant and serious all the time. He would only speak to you if it involved something with the group but that’s about it. Until something changed. You two were working together alone on the bottom of the Tardis when you hurt your hand, splitting it open from the metal. It wasn’t deep for stitches, but enough to bleed badly, of course. “Wow, aye, be careful. Let me see,” he grabbed your wrist and gently flipped it over. “It’s not bad, but it’ll hurt like hell.” He opened his backpack up and took out surgical wrap. “Thank you.” He said nothing but smiled.
The fifth person you met was Martha, who you immediately took in as a sister. You have three of your own at home. Her personality reminded you of them all back home. "Hello, nice to meet you. The doctor already told me your name while we were out." Martha started.
You clutch your side where your wound is and can feel your blood seeping through your fingers. You look at the Dalek that did this to you and with all of your might, raised your weapon and pull the trigger, destroying the Dalek. If only you thought one second ahead of the machine. Then again, you're just a human.
The sixth person to meet you was Jack. He immediately greeted you with a flirty hello and instantly got yelled at by the doctor, which made you laugh. You two spent a lot of time together due to being put together. Jack told you about how he knew the doctor from the previous regeneration and told you that he once wore a leather jacket and had ears like flying saucers. You dread to wish to see the doc in a leather jacket.
“I’m sorry, but she’s not going to make it. Her wound is to fatal,” Martha says, looking at the doctor. The doctor holds you tighter to him, feeling if he did, he wouldn’t lose you.
“It’s okay, Doctor. It’s going to be alright.” You assure. The doctor looks into your eyes, the hurt and sorrow bare to be too much and you immediately start crying.

Dalek Week 2021: Day 2
Role Reversal:
There was a blinding crack of pain as Deryn hit the ground. The world spun off-kilter around her, to the point where she didn't know which way was up and which way was down. Not a good trait for an airman. She tried to right herself, looking for anything to ground her.
There was a hand on her shoulder just then. "Deryn? Deryn are you alright?"
She blinked at the sudden voice. Oh, right. Alek was out here too.
"I'm so sorry, I thought you were behind me-"
"Aye, I'm fine," she muttered, mostly to get him to stop talking. She squinted at his face. He kept moving in and out of focus, like she was twisting the knob on a set of binoculars. "Just fell."
"Just fell? Deryn, you hit your head! Are you dizzy?"
She tried to shake her head, but that sent a jolt of pain through her skull.
Alek swore in German. "You're bleeding-"
"No I'm not." She reached a hand up to wipe some of the rainwater from her face and was surprised when it came off a little red. "Hmm. Well. Not very much, anyway."
"Not very much?! You-" he started muttering in German again, and she gave up trying to translate a few words in. It made her head feel like a swarm of bees.
Finally, Alek switched back to English. "I don't have any of your airman expertise to get us out of this. What do we do now?"
"Um. We should clip ourselves to the ratlines." She knew that much, and her hands knew the motions even if her brain was slow. "It makes it harder to fall off."
Alek nodded, clipping his own line. "That's very sensible. What next, Deryn?"
She blinked. "Why do you keep calling me that?"
Alek looked at her. "What, 'Deryn'? Because that's your name."
"Aye, but how do you know that?" She frowned.
His eyes widened and he looked at her like she was mad. "I've known that for over a week," he said. "We had a whole fight about it! You punched me! Is your head injury really that severe-"
A loud boom of thunder interrupted him. The noise shook her to her bones. Deryn clamped her hands over her ears so it wouldn't hurt as much, but the noise seemed to rattle inside her skull like a stone in a can.
Alek kept looking over his shoulder, but she couldn't figure out what he was looking for. Lightning, maybe? Deryn was finding it increasingly hard to focus on much of anything. There was so much noise, between the rain and the wind and the engines and the waves below, they seemed to strip away her thoughts before they had a proper chance to form.
"Keep talking to me, Deryn." He put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed. "You shouldn't fall asleep with a head wound."
"Aye, I know that," she said, scowling.
"Mr. Rigby sent word to the bridge, someone will be here to help us, just stay awake until then."
"I know, I know." She wondered if help was really coming. Probably. Alek wouldn't lie to her about that. He didn't lie much. Maybe that's why he'd been so hurt when he found out she hadn't told him the truth. Because he wouldn't do that to her.
"I'm sorry I lied to you," Deryn said. "About who I was."
Alek rolled his eyes. "As much as I appreciate the apology, this really isn't the time-"
"No, I made you upset and I didn't want to do that," she said, barreling right on through despite his protests. "You're my best friend and I don't want you to be mad at me."
"I'm not mad at you," he said.
"You were."
"I know." He sighed. "I'm sorry, too. For what I said to you that night. I... I was crueler than I had any right to be."
"Aye, you were." Deryn smiled, feeling her chest start to relax in a way that it hadn't since that awful night. "I'm not sorry I punched you for that."
"No, no, I deserved it," Alek chuckled. "You probably should have hit me again."
"Eh, probably." She shuddered in the cold. "But I won't."
It felt good to get that off her chest. She didn't think she was entirely in the wrong, of course, but every now and again she had the feeling that he was still angry with her. Deryn's blinks got slower and slower. It's good that he apologized for what he said. That had hurt the most.
"No no no, don't fall asleep on me, Deryn." He held her head with both hands. He kept patting her cheek, annoyingly fast. "Help is on the way, just stay with me, okay?"
She scowled. "I'm not gonna fall asleep," she muttered, but her eyes were heavy and the rain was starting to be less of a nuisance. She wasn't sleeping. She could hear him just fine.
"Stay with me," he said again. Why did he keep saying that? She heard him the first time.
The sound of the storm started to fade out. Deryn couldn't feel the cold as much, which must mean that this was pretty much over. That was good. She could relax a little. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Just a bit of rest, just for a minute.
Suddenly she was aware of lips touching hers. The warmth from the kiss, shaky at first, spread through her body and cleared away her brain fog, like the sun burning away the morning dew. Tiny electric sparks seemed to dance across her skin and cut through her cold, wet flight suit as he held her close.
He pulled away. "...Deryn?"
Her eyes were as wide as dinner plates. "Barking Spiders," she squeaked.
Alek breathed a sigh of relief. "Good to see you in the land of the living," he said, patting her cheek again before letting his hands drop.
"Did you just-"
"Yes." Alek coughed and looked back over the length of the spine, avoiding her gaze.
"Oh." She blinked, a daft grin spreading across her face. "Guess princes can wake up just about anyone that way."
He grimaced. "Don't think too hard about it."
"So does this mean-"
"It doesn't mean anything. You needed a shock to your system to wake up properly, and it's not like I could dunk you in cold water."
Deryn could think of several other ways he could have woken her up, but she wasn't about to complain. He kissed her, after all.
"Right," she said. "This was an emergency." Even so, she couldn't stop smiling.
"Exactly," Alek said. "And I knew you'd react to a kiss, because of your feelings-"
Deryn's stomach dropped like a stone in a pond. "Wait, you knew?!" Her voice squeaked again, betraying her mortification. Had she really been so obvious? Sure, there were a few times where she'd gone a bit mad, and she'd had enough outbursts for Volger to put it together. But Volger was clever and Alek didn't know the first thing about romance. She'd been so careful to keep all her feelings locked inside her head, how could he have figured it out?
Alek looked just as embarrassed as she felt. "Uh. Yes."
"And you didn't say anything?!" Her face burned, despite the cold rain.
"What could I have said that wouldn't have embarrassed you?!" He asked. "You know I can't, and there's no need to rub salt in that wound."
"Aye, but-" she groaned. "Barking stupid princes!"
Alek cleared his throat, looking like he expected her to punch him again. "It was easier for both of us if I just ignored it. Something we should probably do about... this." He gestured at the two of them.
"Right." Her head still hurt, even though the brain fog had cleared. And this was a lot to process all at once. "You're a prince, and I'm a commoner."
Alek nodded wordlessly, his cheeks still red.
"Still," Deryn said, looking away from him. "That was a pretty good kiss."

Okay so I saw your post yesterday from journey's end where you said something about how the Doctor wants to snog Rose when she says she built the dimension cannon to come back to him and I just want to read your take on that PRETTY PLEASE!
Oh, anon! How lovely if this had been reality! Let's just say it is. Ask and you shall receive :) Also put this on Ao3 (I'm sure its been done before but this was too fun)
He knew hugging her was going to feel like coming up for air. The amount of times he’d imagined this moment was astronomical and overwhelming, and even so, he was entirely unprepared for what it would feel like to actually hold her again.
He’d come up with a million scenarios. Dreams about falling into the parallel world by accident and scooping her back up and then escaping with mad laughter, holding hands just as the walls were sealing off again; visions of somehow finding her on a beach in this reality with her hair smelling of sea salt and sand. In those, he would wrap her up in a hug that made them both dizzy, and of course, he'd spent an absurd about of time coming up with silly daydreams of just casually stumbling across her in a coffee shop, making some flirtatious comment  that was much too simple for the heartache they had both been through.
Not entirely unlike what he'd said to her today, he supposed, as he had laid dying in her arms.
Long time no see.
It had been far too long. But, by some miracle or utter cleverness, here she was. Her chest was pressed against his, her lips were on his shoulder, kissing him and also breathing him in, and he just held her. The very thought of letting go was more than his hearts or soul could bear, so he didn’t, instead he opened his eyes and looked at Donna, who was giving him a coy smile full of relief and joy. So much swam between their eyes in that single look, and he knew without her having to say that she was thinking about that day so long ago, standing in a wedding dress, watching him try not to cry.
And he knew that right now, she was bloody happy for him.
Her name was Rose.
“I missed you,” he said without meaning to Rose's ear, and his eyes pulled away from Donna to look at her as she loosened her grip around his neck. He swallowed hard, because she was already too far away again and he was already falling, losing himself to her sweet honey scent and beautiful eyes, and the longer he looked at her the harder it was to imagine they’d been apart for as long as they had.
He didn’t know how he’d survived, and he refused to even think about having to go through it all again, not when she was finally here, and when her hands came to rest on his chest directly over his hearts, Jack averted his eyes, noticing the way the Doctor’s eyes seemingly widened.
"I'm starving," he said, looking at Donna. "And if we have to keep fighting today, we should -"
"Right, yeah, we should," Donna said, but neither Rose nor the Doctor noticed when they left and headed to the galley. They were just staring at each other, and when he exhaled her name, his breath brushed her cheek.
“Rose….”
“I missed you, too,” she whispered, and he nodded, smiling a little at her before he pulled her back into a hug, and this time he realized they weren’t being watched. So his hands, which he’d made sure to keep on her upper back before, fell to her waist, forcing her breathing to hitch a little, a sensation he could hear just as much as he could feel, and it was intoxicating. “I missed you so much.”
He stayed silent, but his lips pressed onto her hair, and his fingers debated about slipping under her shirt and her leather jacket, but the moment he realized that's what she was wearing a sense of dread filled his entire body, and he let out a shaky breath when he decided to keep them where they were. “Do me a favor?” he asked quietly, and she nodded. “When this is over, I want you to throw away every single leather jacket you own.”
“What?” she asked, pulling back a little and raising her eyebrow at him. “Why?”
“It reminds me of...saying goodbye,” he said softly, wearing his hearts on his sleeve for the first time in years and he found himself utterly terrified by it. But she just bit her lip and cupped his cheek, and she looked down at her jacket.
“Funny,” she began. “It reminded me of you.”
His face softened, and when her eyes looked up to his, there was a tenderness in them that was making his breathing feel sharp and painful. He just let his Adam’s apple bob as he tried to accept those words, and she stepped closer to him, her eyes never leaving his face as he brushed his hand across her arm, feeling the tangible evidence that she was here, in the flesh and in leather, and he fought the urge to kiss her forehead.
He lost, and before he knew it he was tasting her skin, savoring the sweet concoction that was Rose and sweat, and her hips buckled into his. She let out the smallest moan when she did and his hearts began to speed up, and suddenly she felt too far away again.
He touched the leather jacket, and they both remembered.
You were fantastic. And do you know what?
“Doctor…”
“Rose…”
So was I.
They were so close, so beautifully close, and he started to lean down, ready to kiss her, ready to just give in because he was simply tired of fighting this and he supposed there was some truth to that stupid saying about how distance makes the heart grow fonder, when the TARDIS sounded an alarm and everyone’s attention snapped to the console. He grabbed her hand, not about to not touch her, and they ran over to take a look at what was going on. Jack and Donna were there, too, and whether or not they actually ate their snacks or had been listening at the door like petty teenagers didn’t matter at all as they read the readings, and Jack stiffened.
“What the hell?” he asked.
“Something is looking for us," the Doctor said.
“There’s a massive Dalek ship at the center of the planet,” Jack said, looking at the screen. “They’re calling it the crucible. I guess that’s our destination.”
Rose and the Doctor shared a glance, but Donna was trying to play catch up, and she looked back down at the controls. “You said these planets were like an engine. But what for?”
“Rose,” the Doctor said, a thrill running through him completely at the fact that he was able to do that and look at her face while he did. She bit her lip, probably thinking the same thing. “You’ve been in a parallel world -”
He made sure to smile with his eyes at her at the word ‘been’, because it was the past, and it wasn’t true anymore, because here she was, perfect and pink and yellow and in the damn flesh, and she smirked a little, realizing that was a game he was going to continue to play and she was certain of it. He’d make it light hearted and fun, of course, but she knew and he knew that really, he would say it as a reminder that he wasn’t dreaming.
She squeezed his hand.
“That world is running ahead of this universe. You’ve seen the future. What was it?” he asked.
“The stars were going out,” Donna told him instead, remembering suddenly, and Rose glanced over at her. She nodded.
“One by one,” she added. “We looked up at the sky and they were just...dying.”
He stared at her, waiting for her to continue, and she began to look at her feet. She couldn’t wait to tell him this, she'd thought about it so much, but she wanted to do it alone, and right now they had...well….a few too many people. But he needed to know and time was running out, so sod it.
“Basically we’ve been building this, erm. This travel machine...This, dimension cannon, so...well - so that I could…” she tried to say, but she could feel Donna and Jack’s eyes on her and it made her hesitate. The Doctor’s eyes darted to her lips before they found her eyes, and his face was hard to read, though there was the ghost of a smile tugging on his lips.
“What?” he whispered.
He needed to hear her say it.
“So I could come back,” she mused, and he gave her a classic grin, full of teeth and his clicked jaw, and she couldn’t help but notice the way his hand found hers again. He hummed happily as she rolled her eyes, because they could both feel the flirty banter lingering in the air. She bit her lip as he continued to smile like an idiot at her. “Shut up.”
She was teasing, but her voice became a little breathier than it had been, the way he was looking at her was simply too much, and his smile fell, his tongue tapping the back of his teeth as he suddenly had this hungry look in his eyes that she’d never quite seen before, and she stopped breathing when he spoke next.
“Make me.”
His hearts were pounding, and her face, which was a little shocked at first, suddenly became determined, and neither cared nor remembered that Jack and Donna were there as she grabbed his lapels and pulled him to her. He wasted no time. She was lonliness' remedy, the thing he craved more than the air in his lungs, and his mouth was on hers before he could process it.
She cried out when he pushed her against the controls, tongues lapping and hands cradling her waist like they were before, only this time his fingers slipped beneath her shirt, dancing on her skin and leaving a trail of goosebumps behind them, and Jack stared in shock. Donna blushed and then turned away, walking over to Jack and making him step aside as well, because they both heard the panting that was starting to stir from both of them, and they figured if the world was ending, they should at least get this.
So they slipped back into the other room for as long as they could.
“Up,” the Doctor groaned.
“What?” she gasped, shuddering when his lips found her neck.
“Your legs. Put them up. On the seat,” he ordered, nipping a little at her. She laughed and kissed him, but she did what he said and groaned when he suddenly rubbed her in just the right spot with his thigh, and that leather jacket they’d debated about was being unzipped. "Oh, I missed you."
“Doctor,” she whined, and he just nodded.
“I’m right here,” he whispered. “I'm not going anywhere.”
She nodded, letting herself be spellbound for another moment, but her eyes caught sight of the monitor and she tried to pull away.
“We have….the planets, we -” she tried to say, but his lips were on hers again, and he sucked on her bottom lip. She whimpered.
"So?" he whispered, and she sighed.
“We can’t...not right now, we -”
“Yes we can,” he growled. “We can. I don’t care. I want you. I don't want to have to wait, the universe always makes us wait and I'm tired of it.”
Her jacket was nearly pulled completely off as his kisses grew more frantic, hot and wet and needy and full of so much guilt, perhaps. Guilt for losing her, guilt for not finding her first, and she rocked into him, making him cry her name as he slammed his hands on the console.
But the TARDIS still had her wits about her, and just as they began to tear each other's clothes off, making it so his suit coat was completely unbuttoned, she shifted and threw them both to the ground.
Rose winced when her shoulder hit the grating and he looked at her worriedly. His pants had a bulge that hadn’t been there a moment ago, but before they could yell at the TARDIS or resume what they were doing, the Old Girl jolted again, and he pulled Rose to his chest.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“Yeah, you?” she said, and he nodded, standing up and helping her to do the same. Donna and Jack were back in the room, looking a little nervous, and everyone knew the storm was getting closer.
“In that parallel world, you said something about me,” Donna whispered, looking at Rose. The Doctor looked at Jack, who was smirking and pointed down to his pants, and he just made a face.
“Don’t start,” he muttered, and Jack just beamed.
“Didn’t know you had it in you,” he teased, but Rose was looking at Donna carefully, and when she slipped her hand out of the Doctor’s to walk to her, he panicked.
“Rose, come here,” he said, unable to stop himself, and she stepped back so her side was touching his.
“The dimension cannon could measure timelines -” she began, and the Doctor gave her an adoring smile, wanting to ask her so many questions about it he could hardly stand it. She just nudged his side. “It’s weird, Donna, but they all seemed to converge on you.”
“But why me?” she gasped, “What have I ever done? I’m a temp from Chiswick!”
The TARDIS jolted again, knocking them all down, and the Doctor’s hands were securely on Rose’s waist as they stood back up. His hearts were pounding, and they all stared at the door. The scanner beeped.
“The Dalek Crucible,” he whispered, and for good measure, he kissed Rose’s hair. “All aboard.”
He looked at the hand in the box for a fraction of a second as they headed toward the door, because he’d seen a version of this timeline that he was just desperately hoping was not about to come true. But if it did, he'd try to be okay with that.
He'd try.

More warning: English is not my first language so beware of the headache you will receive upon reading this.
I fell on my knees as I clutched the sand beneath my fingers. I could feel wind blowing around me. I look around and I saw that I'm currently stranded on some beach?
  "(name)?"
I heard someone called my name from behind me.
  "(name)!!"
I turned around and squinted my eyes against the annoying wind. It was Tenth Doctor in a blue suit and he is not alone. He is with Rose.
  "Doctor?" I trailed in confusion.
The Doctor ran toward me with a grin and hugged me tight while I just stood there and hesitantly hugged him back.
I just left a version of him alone. My heart ached suddenly at the reminder. That Doctor is sad, so very sad and I couldn't do a thing to ease his sorrow.
The Doctor released me, still grinning happily.
Rose didn't say anything but she smiled at me.
I nodded at her. "Thanks for the stun gun?" I blurted out.
She chuckled at that. "Don't mention it."
The fact she know what I'm talking about meant she is the same Rose I met back at the crucible. Which meant this version of Tenth Doctor is from that time too.
"What stun gun?" The Doctor asked. "Why do you even have a stun gun?" He sounded annoyed.
"For protection." Both Rose and I simultaneously answered and we smiled genuinely at each other.
"Stun gun is useless against the Daleks." The Doctor pointed.
"I know. But it worked against the Master." I said.
The Doctor's eyes widened. "The Master? You met the Master?!" He yelled.
Rose is confused. "Who is the Master?"
The Doctor explained who the Master is to her.
My head felt dizzy suddenly I almost lost my balance but the Doctor caught me.
"Are you okay?" He asked in concern.
"Just a bit dizzy. Where are we now?" I asked. "Can we get something to eat first?" I rubbed my stomach as I smiled sheepishly at them. "I'm a bit hungry."
It was Rose who told me where I am. Bad Wolf Bay.
"Where is your Tardis, Doctor?" I asked.
The Doctor rubbed his head with an almost guilt look. "Well, that is...a bit complicated."
I stared at the Doctor in confusion as he explained that he is not exactly the Doctor. He said he is the metacrisis Doctor whatever that's meant.
My eyes widened when Rose helpfully tell me that the metacrisis grew from the hand in a jar I saw before.
"Like a worm?" I asked with almost disgusted look.
The Metacrisis looked insulted while Rose laughed out loud.
I shivered in cold from the wind. Thankfully they noticed and finally suggested we left the beach.
I stared at the metacrisis who is holding hand with Rose in contemplation.
Usually I always ended up wherever the Doctor is. I suppose this metacrisis version counted as the Doctor.
Rose called her mobile and shortly after a black car appeared. She gestured for me to get in.
It felt kind of awkward as we shared a car. I didn't know what to say to them. But the two lovebirds are too busy staring at each other in silent.
A sudden sharp pain in my head made me gasp out loud and I found myself spiralling like little Alice who fell into unknown hole. It feel like splintering but also...not?
   7777
  Cold. It was so cold.
I opened my eyes and suddenly fell into a panic state as I found myself submerged under water. I opened my mouth, causing icy water to fill my throat and lung.
I struggled to surface and coughed harshly when I did. I wiped the water in my face and I saw Thirteenth Doctor rushing toward me, saying some comforting words but for some reason she sounded so far away. There must be waters inside my ears too.
The Doctor is still rambling as she clutched my cheek, sometimes my hair but I still couldn't get what she is saying.
"D-Doctor?" I whispered with chattering teeth. "Where am I?" I made a move to get out of...glass tube? "W-what is this?"
The Doctor prevented me from moving out of the glass tube. She said something to me but I can't understand.
"Doctor, I can't hear you!" I said in frustation.
The Doctor stopped talking and she stared at me in sorrow.
Suddenly she pushes me back by the head back into the icy water.
I was shocked at first before I struggled against her strong grip but it was useless.
From beneath the water, I saw her yelling something at someone I couldn't see. Someone is beside the Doctor and that person is about to inject me with something.
I panicked even more as I screamed under water and everything turned black once more.
   7777
  I screamed myself awake.
"(name), it is okay! Open your eyes! You are safe!" I heard a voice said urgently.
I opened my eyes slowly to see Tenth Doctor, no, Metacrisis Doctor and Rose. They stared at me in concern.
I took in my surrounding while still trying to calm my breath. I am in some medical room and I am not wet despite being under water just before. I coughed a few times as if getting the air knocked out of me.
Was that a dream? I thought to myself as I touches my neck, remembering how the Thirteenth Doctor pushed me back into the icy water. Was she trying to kill me? Why?
"W-what happened to her? What was that?" Rose asked the Metacrisis Doctor.
I blinked, trying to focus on those two talking.
The Metacrisis Doctor is staring at me with a look of concern and fear. Fear for me?
  "What?" I asked him.
They told me that I suddenly fainted in the car and that I was in a...state.
"It was like you got stuck between one place and the next..." The Metacrisis Doctor said with a frown. "...like a blip..."
I grimaced. Well, that one is new. So did I splinter? Unsuccessfully? "But I was here, right?"
"Like I said, to us, it looked like you were stuck...like a blip but yeah, you are mostly here." He said again, frowning as he ponder about it. "Did you go somewhere?"
"I think so. But it feel more like a vision of nightmare rather than being stranded somewhere foreign again..." Oh this is confusing and kind of scary. I groaned. Great, another unwanted complication.
"Where did you go when you were in that state?" He asked. "Was that the first time it happened or...?"
"I think that was the first time that happened to me...?" I was unsure, remembering that vision of waking up to a frantic Thirteenth Doctor but that time...it didn't feel like splintering. It almost feel unreal so I didn't mention it or even write it in my notebook.
"Were you in pain?" Rose asked in concern. "You look like you did."
  "I'm fine...I think?"
"You don't sound sure..." The Metacrisis pointed.
I didn't speak for a few seconds. "I think the Doctor...I think she just tried to drown me?"
"What?" The Metacrisis yelled loudly making me wince.
"Wait, what? She?!" Rose also exclaimed loudly.
The Metacrisis got distracted by Rose as he sheepishly told her about the future of the Doctor being a Time Lady.
Despite knowing about regeneration, Rose look pretty astonished by the revelation.
The Metacrisis turned his attention back at me and demanded I tell him every detail of my encounter with the alternate Thirteenth Doctor.
But is she really an alternate version? She seemed to know me. I know there are alternate version of me who is also travelling with the Doctor. I met one before. Could that version of the Doctor mistaken me with her version of myself?
I sighed again. That doesn't make sense either. Why would she tried to drown any version of me?
The Metacrisis snapped his fingers to get my attention as he urgently asked me for the detail of my experience earlier. "Focus!"
So I told him about waking up in some deep glass tube, of seeing the Thirteenth Doctor and of her trying to drown me and inject me with something.
The Metacrisis frowned as he asked more detail on the glass tube I was in. Sadly, I didn't pay much attention to the glass tube so there is not much detail I can tell him
He thought that the Doctor I met is probably experimenting on me for some reason, presumably to save my life. He was a bit disappointed that I can't give more information.
I decided not to contradict him with the fact that I once met a somewhat insane Thirteenth Doctor. But that version wanted to keep me for herself while the version earlier...
You know what? I need to give her benefit of the doubt and just consider that what Metacrisis said might be true. Maybe she is just trying to save me? I sighed. Here I am in denial.
"Next time, doc, keep in mind to tell someone when you are trying to save them by drowning, say, to save misunderstanding." I said in annoyance.
He grinned sheepishly. "Noted." His cheerful demeanor vanished as he told me to write down everything that happened to me in my notebook.
  I nodded obediently.
I noticed Rose is still staring at the Metacrisis. I think she can't get over the fact that one day the Doctor will switch gender. I understood the feeling but I have accepted it somewhat.
They gave me some food and a set of new clothes. I drank my medicine and get a rest some more. They gave me some privacy.
My mind keep replaying being under water with the Doctor hovering over me as she pushes me under. I closed my eyes, wishing for that memory to leave me alone.
I stared at my notebook that I just finished writing in with a sigh. I put the notebook on my bag. I could feel the sign that I was about to be pulled away again.
The Metacrisis and Rose are nowhere to be seen so I couldn't say goodbye to them.

I blinked as I found myself in an unfamiliar room but I know I am inside the Tardis. I turned around and yelped when I saw two bodies embracing each other on the bed.
"Oh my God!! Cover everything!!" I yelled as I covered my eyes with my hand. I turned my back from the surprised and frantic couple.
It was definitely Eleventh Doctor and River Song...in bed, having sex. I wish I could bleach my mind.
The Doctor grabbed a pillow to cover his junk while River remained chill despite the unwanted interuption. They both redressed themselves.
"(name), have you ever heard of knocking?" The Doctor glared at me.
I glared back at him. "Like I have any control which place I ended up to!!"
River perked up. "(name)? Your alternate future companion? The one who is crossing all over your timeline in every alternate universe? That (name)?"
Wow, River's description of me making what happened to me sounded awesome. I mean I supposed it is exciting if not for the fact that I'm dying.
The Doctor nodded at his wife as River immediately grinned at me, offering a handshake.
"How exciting... Nice to meet you. I'm River but I reckon you know that, don't you?" She said with a friendly smile. "I've been wanting to meet you for a while now."
I felt awkward under her attention as I forced a polite smile. I turned to the Doctor and asked about the last time he saw me.
"It was at the crucible. Remember? Tardis got taken by the Daleks?" The Doctor reminded me.
I nodded. "Yeah, I was actually just at Bad Wolf Bay with your Metacrisis and Rose."
The Doctor look surprised and turned solemn at the mention of those two. "How are they? Do they seem...happy?"
"I think so...?" I trailed in confusion.
He beamed a little. "That's good."
River put a hand on his shoulder in comforting gesture.
They took me out of their bedroom and back into console room as I told them about what happened to me earlier. About Thirteenth Doctor tried to drown me and how the Metacrisis disagreed.
I took my medicine as they asked me to tell them everything that happened to me. They wanted to take some of my blood to conduct their own test. I gave them what they wanted.
Afterward they gave me a room for me to get some rest.
River came to have a chat. It was awkward at first but soon we started talking animatedly about the Doctor. She also asked to read my notebook. I was hesitant at first but...she is the Doctor's wife so...essentially I can trust her, can't I? So I let her read some pages.
She told me she kept a diary too detailing her encounters with the Doctor. She has a wistful smile as she got to the page with the gallifreyian writings. She can read it but she won't translate it for me.
"Don't worry. They all spoke fondly of you." River said, fingers tracing on the gallifreyian writings.
  I sighed at that.
"I must admit I am curious about the female version of the Doctor." River said. " Did she ever mention me?"
I shook my head slowly. I felt bad for River because she looked sad at my answer.
"Honestly, she was very secretive about her past. The fam and I, we didn't know much about her. I only know some stuff about her because of the splintering." I said.
When she noticed my stun gun, River decided to teach me how to use a gun. She started simple with a small gun.
That's how the Doctor found us in a room for target shooting, apparently a room that the Tardis created just because River asked the ship out loud.
The Doctor look absolutely disappointed at us and our gun. He pouted much like a child under River's teasing.
I observed them with a fond smile. The smile slide off my face as I felt it was time to go. I voiced my gratitude for their company.
They turned to me with unreadable expression before smiling encouragingly at me.
"Next time you come here, I promise I will get you a simple weapon for your protection." River sweetly said despite her husband's protest.
I laughed at them as I slowly faded away right before their eyes.

I blinked in confusion as I found myself in some random wood. I walked around, hoping to find the Doctor soon. Wonder who will I get this time?
I didn't watch where I was walking and I ended up triggering some trap.
I screamed as I found myself hanging upside down by feet.
Someone must have heard my scream as I could hear many someones coming my way. I could only pray they are friendly, not the kind who want to eat me. Oh gosh, please don't let me meet a cannibal.
I got a headache already thanks to the unwanted position I am in. Thankfully, the universe is kind to me today as a bunch of people came toward me. I recognized Twelfth Doctor and Clara. Clara's red period dress caught my eyes immediately.
  I blinked at them.
"Oh, it's you." The Doctor said flatly.
I would feel insulted by his tone if not for the fact I am hanging upside down. I pitifully pleaded, "Help me get down please..."
One of the men, his name is Robin Hood, Clara supplied, thankfully catches me after he ordered his merry men to free me.
I was too busy trying to balance myself again to appreciate the fact I'm actually meeting a Robin Hood.
I sat on a fallen branch as the Doctor stared me down. Clara sat beside me and engaged me with friendly conversation. But I was a bit dizzy to keep up. Thanks to her being chatty, I found out that this version of Doctor and Clara are the one I met when they were imprisoned alongside the Doctor's other past faces and companion.
I finally looked up toward the Doctor. He was staring at me in calculation. I sighed. "Don't worry, I won't demand a cure from you. Judging from how you look at me, you didn't expect me to come back again, did you?"
The Doctor look almost ashamed but didn't say anything.
Clara watched over the both of us in curiosity.
"Honestly, I'm beginning to think a cure for my current state is impossible." I said softly.
"Don't be absurd. I just haven't figure it out yet. It does not meant I give up or that there is no cure." The Doctor said. "Do you still have your medicine?"
I pulled out my pill bottles. There are only a few pill left.
"Thought so. I have a backup for you somewhere back in the Tardis." He said.
"You actually make the medicine for me just in case?" I asked, feeling a bit surprised. He sounded like he was annoyed when he first saw me.
"I did promise you a cure, didn't I? Though I have to disappoint you as the cure is just a temporary measure." He said.
I smiled at him gratefully. "Thank you, Doctor."
We are interrupted by Robin and his men, something about an archery tournament launched by Sheriff of Nottingham.
I noticed Clara is flirting with Robin with ease while the Doctor is grumpy and overall rude toward Robin.
Clara and I exchanged amused glance as we both watched the Doctor challenge Robin with archery, trying to one up one another. They are definitely trying to impress Clara, I think.
Everyone cheered every-time those two releases their arrows.
Predictably thing turned into trouble when we found out the soldiers employed by the evil sheriff are robots.
I exhaled loudly in annoyance as I ended up in a dark prison with Doctor, Clara and Robin. The Doctor really is a magnet for trouble, isn't he?
Clara and I exchanged annoyed look as the Doctor and Robin won't stop yapping at each other.
Eventually Clara was taken away as they thought she is our leader after she lost her patience and snapped at both Doctor and Robin. I am impressed with her.
Though I felt kinda insulted that they only take Clara. Was it because I don't look like a noble lady like her? But then again I'm not the sort who take charge. I wouldn't know what to do if I am in her position.
I was shook out from my musing when the Doctor and Robin yelled loudly again at each other. It was amusing at first but this gets really annoying fast. For once I wish to splinter as soon as possible just so I could get away from their stupidly grating voices.
I glared at them but they don't notice me. I sighed as I stared at the cuff around my wrists. I hope I won't end up splintering taking the cuff with me. That would be awkward.
After a few minutes of them yelling and mocking each other, I yelled at them to calm the fuck down.
I glared at the Doctor. "Stop being jealous of him and start using that brilliant mind of yours to get us out of this mess." I said.
The Doctor glared back at me with a scoff. "Jealous? Of him? Hah!"
Robin, in turn, scoffed at the Doctor, exchanging annoying 'hah!' at each other repeatedly.
I rolled my eyes. I felt a headache already. I glanced at my bag. When I was taken, they took a look inside but deemed it worthless and tossed it on the ground nearby. I really hope the Doctor stopped being childish already and work on our freedom. It would really be troubling if I splinter without my notebook and medicine. Also I wonder if Clara will be okay.
I watched in annoyance as the Doctor and Robin acted stupidly which ended up with the key to our freedom far from our reach. I groaned. This is going to take a while.
Eventually they did finally able to release themselves and worked to release me. Unfortunately, they still can't get along even for one common goal, rescuing Clara.
I picked up my bag as I held back from rolling my eyes as those two started to bicker, practically ignoring me. It was at that moment that I felt the tingling.
I hitched a breath and turned toward the Doctor. But he was too busy yelling at Robin to notice. When he did finally noticed, I was already fading away. Last thing I heard is Robin demanding what is happening to me.
  7777
I felt dizzy as I arrived on...wherever I am this time. I found myself standing in some sort of a deserted land? But I didn't see anyone. I took a walk tentatively. Then I saw figures coming my way. I squinted my eyes to see and my eyes widened when I saw the Doctor and Ryan. There is an old man with them.
The Doctor and Ryan called my name in disbelief and confusion. They recognized me. I wondered if I am home but knowing my luck, that probably not the case. But they recognized me so I have to assume they were the set that I met much earlier, an universe where I never travelled with them. I sighed at that. It is such a sore subject for me. I can't imagine not knowing the Doctor and the fam.
The Doctor scanned me with her sonic screwdriver and once she is done, she smiled. "It's good to see you again, (name). Wish it is on a better situation."
I smiled at her and Ryan. I have to swallow my bitterness upon confirming they are not my original friends. "What is going on?"
The Doctor glanced at me sadly. "Cybermen."
The smile slide off my face immediately. "The lone cyberman?"
"Now, it is an army." Ryan replied.
"Where are Yaz and Graham?" I asked in worry.
"We got separated from them." Ryan said.
I turned toward the Doctor who remained silent. We exchanged a look. I was reminded the last time I saw her, how I warned her about a version of herself who went insane after losing her companion.
"I won't let that happen." The Doctor suddenly said.
I prayed that she can keep her promise. They might not be my original set but they are still a version of the same sort of people that I care about. I don't think I could deal if I saw one of them die here right before my eyes. Last time was hard enough, watching a version of the Doctor died with me being completely helpless, to the point I lost my marble.
I swallowed down a fearful sob as I took a very deep breathe to calm myself. A part of me wanted to stay and help but another part of me just wanted to fade away from here. I am such a coward.
The Doctor fussing about some communication equipment nearby when suddenly a static noise and we heard Yaz's voice.
Ryan and I quickly come closer to the Doctor so we could better hear what Yaz said until I realized she was saying goodbye. They were trapped in a cybermen spaceship with the army on the way of either killing or converting them. A flashback of the sweet Bill Pott turned into a cyberman flashed my mind.
I observed the Doctor's face. She flinched at what Yaz said. The despair in her eyes as she realized she is helpless, unable to save Yaz and Graham. I feared that she would snap into that version of the dark doctor I saw before.
I tried to focus on what Yaz is saying and froze when I heard her confess to the Doctor. Yaz is in love with the Doctor!! My mouth dropped open in shock.
In hindsight, I shouldn't be surprise at all. The Doctor is such a person, so wonderful, I don't know how to describe it. I never thought I like woman until I met her. But maybe it is because she is the Doctor that I fell for her. I wonder if I meet earlier incarnation of her instead of her, would I also end up catching feeling for them?  I admitted I kind of have soft spot for all the alternate previous incarnation of the Doctors I met so far.
I watched the Doctor as she clutched the device close to her lips, hearing her muttering Yaz's name solemnly. The Doctor closed her eyes as if in pain. My heart goes for Yaz and the Doctor. Though now that I knew, I can't help but wonder if my Yaz also has feeling for the Doctor. She never said anything to me. I wonder if the Doctor...
Gosh, noo! Oh, no! I hit myself on my head immediately, feeling stupid for having a love crisis when Yaz and Graham are in danger! Priority, Me, priority!!
I bit my lips hard as I focused on the Doctor.  I felt the tingling right at that moment.
No! I can't leave right now! I have to help them somehow anyhow or...I have to know what will happen next in order to prevent my original friends from suffering the same fate. I sounded so selfish I realized but what am I supposed to do?  I want to go home to them, to that version who know and love me as much as I love them.
I didn't call out to the Doctor. I didn't want to ruin Yaz's possibly last moment with the Doctor. As I fade away, I can only pray that they will survive whatever ordeal coming their way.
  7777
I landed on my knees on the floor and I coughed up blood. I quickly popped up on my medicine, wiping the blood using some napkin I saw before taking a look at my surrounding. I was in a room, a bedroom and on the bed, the Tenth Doctor in pajamas sleeping. My mouth dropped open in confusion. I noticed he look pale. I stepped toward him when the door opened and Rose entered the room. Upon seeing me, she started yelling at me.
"Who the hell are you? How did you get here?" Rose demanded. "Stay away from him!"
  Wow, she is so intense.
An older woman entered the room bearing a fruit knife and upon seeing me, waved her knife threateningly at me after hearing Rose yelling at me. A young man also entered the room bearing a frying pan.
  What a welcome.
I raised my hands up in placating gesture and then I blurted something stupid, "I come in peace!"
Rose and the others stared at me stupidly before they started talking at the same time. I think the man accused me of being an alien.
"Would you please be quiet so I can explain?" I finally snapped.
  They did.
I figured I shouldn't say anything complicated so I told them I am from the future and a friend of the Doctor. I also said I knew Rose in the future, well, a version of her, but like I said, just keep it simple.
Rose didn't believe me at first. She told me to move out of the room as not to bother the Doctor. She let it slip that the Doctor has just changed his face.
I braced myself as Rose then started to interrogate me about some stuff regarding the Doctor and the Tardis. I think I passed the quiz as she finally relents.
I thank my lucky star that she didn't press my knowledge of Rose herself. I only met her a few times and I didn't know much about her aside that she is a bad-ass with weapon and is in love with the Doctor.
Is it a common occurrence, I wonder, for the companion to catch feeling for the Doctor? Rose, River, Clara, Yaz and myself, so far that I observed. But obviously River is the one most special since the Doctor married her. From what I have seen of River, she is amazing woman.
Rose introduced me to Jackie, her mother and Mickey, her best friend.
Both Jackie and Mickey tried to ask me about future events. It was then Rose suddenly noticed the Christmas tree in the room and asked her mother about it.
I stared blankly at the tree when it started to whirl around mechanically. My mouth dropped open when the tree started flying toward us just as Rose screamed for everyone to run or take covers as the tree hurling sharp ornaments at us. Mickey grabbed my hand and pulled me along.
I can't believe a Christmas tree just attacked us. Seriously life with the Doctor in it is so weird but fascinating, never a dull moment.
We ended up inside the room where the Doctor is sleeping. Trapped and helpless, I saw Rose climbed up the bed and whispered in the Doctor's ear. Suddenly the Doctor woke up and immediately use his sonic screwdriver toward the tree. He ran outside the room toward the balcony and the others followed.
I saw creepy figures in Santa Claus clothing stared at us from below. I didn't hear what the Doctor said but I was worried when he suddenly grabbed his chest as if having a heart attack with Jackie hovering and asked him what he need, even going as listing everything she thought he might need much to my amusement.
I accidentally laughed when the annoyed Doctor shouted at Jackie that he need her to shut up. Everyone stared at me much to my embarrassment. I muttered a small sorry at Jackie.
"Who are you?" The Doctor asked. "you are new."
Rose glared at me. "She said she is a friend of yours. Did you lie?"
"Really?" The Doctor turned to look at me. "Are we?"
"I did not lie. He just don't know me yet." I said.
"A-ah." The Doctor suddenly nodded as if he understand. "Sometimes I did met someone in a wrong order. Hello, there, I'm the Doctor. Who might you be?"
I shrugged. "I am called (name)."
The Doctor grinned at me clutching my hand on his, shaking it rather hard. He released me with a groan as he clutched his chest again. When he exhaled, a sort of yellowish energy flew out of his mouth.
  "What is that?" I asked.
"Don't worry about it. It is just some regeneration energy." He waved it off as if it is not a big deal.
At the mention of regeneration, my eyes widened. I only get a glimpse of a regeneration energy once when a version of Tenth Doctor transferred the energy into his spare hand. I hope I would never saw it in my Doctor. My wish for her to remain as she is.
"Aah, you woke me up too soon. I am not finished yet." He said, pale and sweaty and then he fainted.
With the Doctor is out of commission, things went downhill pretty soon with a broadcast from an alien race that somehow able to control the mind half of the population into walking on the edge. Next thing I know, Rose and the rest of us suddenly met up with Harriet Jones to deal with the alien.
Much to my horror, I realized I couldn't understand what the alien is speaking. Rose said the Tardis must have some malfunction of some sort or maybe the ship is connected to the Doctor. That never happened before with my Doctor and the fam. I dreaded meeting alien with language barrier, bound to cause misunderstanding. Although these alien race seemed wanting to invade the earth for some reason, I wonder if we could reason with them without the Doctor.
Rose tried her best though much to my admiration, she took charge. I don't know what I would do if I'm in her position. I prayed the Doctor feel better soon so he can help us with this crisis. I grimaced, feeling useless and I have a few hours to kill before the next splinter. I hope I could be of help somehow.
I accompanied Rose, Harriet and a bunch of her people to face the alien. Part of me thought everything will be alright because I met  a version of Rose far back in the future, which meant that Rose probably survived these event, which meant the Doctor definitely will come through for us. And I was right. The Doctor did come through, still in his pajamas, with a smug look on his face as he started talking fast at everyone.
"I want to be ginger. I never get to be ginger." The Doctor complained.
Next thing I know the Doctor challenged the alien leader into a duel. He even lost a hand. I gasped as I covered my mouth. The metacrisis! I chuckled as the puzzle started to fit. My mouth dropped open as I saw the Doctor grew another hand. I meant I know he will do that since the version of him that I met didn't walking around with one hand.
"Like a worm..." I whispered to myself.
Rose gaped as she stared at me and then she covered the giggle that burst out of her mouth. But soon she started laughing.
I chuckled and soon followed laughing especially when the Doctor walked toward us, asking us what is so funny. We just kept laughing.
As the Doctor give his oncoming storm warning at the alien, they retreated. He took us back with his Tardis. The Doctor is pissed at Harriet for obliterating the retreating alien but she stood tall, believing she did the right thing. The dark look that crossed the Doctor's feature made my heart clenched in fear. But this is the Doctor. He would not do anything to punish her, would he? All he did is whisper something to Harriet's assistant and then walked away, ignoring Harriet attempt to plead her case.
I frowned as I watched Harriet and then the Doctor's retreating figure.
"(name), come along." The Doctor called out. He turned to Rose to tell her to get inside her house and that he need to change his clothing. They shared a flirty smile at each other before parting. He turned toward me, looking way too serious which make me very, very nervous. He gestured for me to come on board his Tardis. He made me wait in the console room while he went to the wardrobe room to change.
"What do you think?" The Doctor, now in a proper suit, asked me. He was grinning in almost flirty manner.
"It's very you." I answered flatly, trying to cover my nervousness of being alone with him.
"Ah, right, you are from the future, so you must have already seen me in this suit." He said as he put his hands on his pockets and walked toward me with a stern look. "Care to explain why you are here?"
"You didn't trust me." I know I can't expect the Doctor, any alternate version of him, to immediately put their trust in me but damn, I hate having to try to convince the Doctor again and again. Luckily, so far, I haven't met a version of Doctor that outright reject or dismiss me.
He shrugged. "I don't know you." He said.
I sighed. I pulled my notebook from my bag. I haven't updated my record yet, I really should do that soon. I flipped some pages.
The Doctor stared at my notebook curiously.
I showed him a page written by a version of Tenth Doctor. "Here." I gave the notebook to him. "This should at least clarify." The Tenth Doctor that I met wrote in my notebook said it will help the other Doctor to help me.
The Doctor read the writing on the page but he look confused. "What is this?"
"It is your handwriting..." I said with a touch of 'duh' on my tone.
The Doctor sheepishly scratched his head. "Yeaah," He drawled. "I haven't done any writing yet, brand new hands, you see..."
I gaped at him. Suddenly I felt stupid, he is right after all. I pulled to the next page. "But I'm sure you recognize this language." I said to him.
And he did. A sombre look passed his feature upon seeing the Gallifreyan writings on the page.
"How did you get this?" He asked suddenly looking almost angry.
His  harsh tone took me aback. I gulped. "You are the one who wrote that..." I said almost defensively. "Well, technically an alternate version of you."
He glanced at the notebook and then at me and then back to the notebook. He flipped some pages. "Alternate universe? You?" He asked. He pulled his sonic screwdriver to scan me. While he is waiting for the result, he flipped on some pages again.
I glared at him and the sonic. I grabbed the notebook from him, almost in petulant. "Some of that is private, okay?" I put the notebook back on my bag.
He took a glance at his sonic and his mouth dropped open. "You are telling the truth..." He glanced at me with a look of pity. "...and you are dying..."
I exhaled at that. "Thankfully I'm still alive and kicking thanks to medicine your alternate future self give me, but I'm about to run out. The last Doctor said he has the back up but we got into trouble and then I splintered before he could give me the back up medicine."
"That does sound like me...getting into trouble..." He pondered thoughtfully and then grinned boyishly at me. "Oh, well, it is nice to meet you, (name)."
I tried to smile but it is more like a grimace.
"Now, about the medicine... I think I spot a page about the formula of some kind."
"Ah yes, he does wrote it in my notebook." I said as I pulled back out my notebook, flipping on the page of the formula written by a version of Twelfth Doctor. I showed the page to him. He took the book from me and scanned it using the Tardis. "What are you doing?"
He smirked at me. "Making you your backup medicine. The Tardis will help me find the key ingredient for the formula."
I watched him moving in circle surrounding the console, pushing some button on it.
"My alternate-self seemed to trust you so I don't see any reason not to help you." He said, without looking at me.
  "Gee, thanks." I said sarcastically.
He grinned. "I assume you took one when you arrived in this universe?"
I shrugged. "Kinda have to considering..."
  "considering...what?"
"Well sometimes I cough up blood. He said, the Doctor I met before, he said to take one."
The smile slide off his face as he is looking at me solemnly, pity in his eyes. "I'm so sorry."
I shrugged. "It is fine. I'm getting used to it. So, the medicine, how long will it take to finish?"
He glanced at me. "We could join Rose and her family for dinner. It should be finish afterward. Join us?"
  "I don't want to intrude."
"Nonsense, come along, (name)." He said with a grin as he grabbed my hand and pulled me outside the Tardis.
"Oi, hurry it up, will you two!" Rose called out.
A bright, adoring smile crossed the Doctor's feature upon seeing Rose. "Coming..."
I relented and joined the Doctor and Rose. Thankfully, Rose is friendly enough with me. But I kind of feeling like a third wheel around them...again.
I smiled as I observed the Doctor, Rose and her family. They seemed to having much fun. After we finished dinner, we got out and saw it started snowing much to everyone excitement until the Doctor ruined it by saying it is a remnant of the exploding ship of the alien earlier.
I glanced at the obvious couple as they stared and pointed at the night sky. That's when I felt the tingling. Realizing I was about to be taken away, I called out to him.
"Doctor, thank you for having me. But it looked like I couldn't get the medicine again. Hold on it for me, will you? We might see each other again..." I said with almost a sad smile.
The Doctor and Rose frowned at me in confusion. Their eyes widened as I slowly started to fade away.
   7777
I landed somewhere and immediately feeling like the ground beneath me collapsed. I fell on my knees, clutching my head and groaning.  "Ooww..."
  "Are you alright?"
I blinked and opened my eyes to see a red-haired little girl staring at me curiously. I took a glance at the surrounding, I was at the backyard in some random house. "Where is here?"
"Leadworth." The little girl answered almost in annoyance directed at the said place.
"Leadworth?" I repeated. Then I finally noticed the Tardis next to a shattered shed. "Doctor?" I called out. "Doctor!"
"You know that weird man?" The little girl asked.
"You saw the Doctor?" I asked as I turned to question the girl.
Suddenly the Doctor come out from the house, calling out my name in excitement. "(name), you are here!"
I blinked as I saw Eleventh Doctor in a messy, torn suit. "Doctor?" I pondered about which Eleventh Doctor is he when he went to hug me tight.
"I'm so glad to see you again." He whispered at me.
I hesitantly hugged him back. "Me too."
He released me and he suddenly sniffed me. "You smell weird."
"W-what?" I asked in horror and offended.
  He suddenly licked my cheek.
"Eww." The girl and I exclaimed at the same time.
"What the hell, Doctor? You can't just go around licking people!" I yelled, wiping my cheek with my clothes.
"You smell...You smell like me...like a regeneration. Have you been with a version of me that has just regenerating?" He asked.
My eyes widened at that. "Err, yeah, actually." I remembered the Tenth Doctor from before, with that weird yellow regeneration energy thing, it does get caught on my face. "You can smell that?" I asked. I glanced at him, really taking him in. "You...you also have just regenerated?"
  He smiled almost solemnly.
"Doctor." I called out. "The last time we met is..."
"Thank you for comforting me that time, (name)."
My heart clenched in sorrow suddenly upon remembering that version of Tenth Doctor, the one so clouded with sorrow and burdened by the prophecy of his death. He finally regenerated into his eleventh self after all. I am sad that I won't see him ever again despite knowing they are still the same person in all the things that matter.
"I am so glad that you survived. You make it sounded like you will not." I said softly.
"Yeaah, sorry about that, mind is a bit messy last time."
The little girl coughed up to catches our attention.
The Doctor is beaming as he introduced me to the girl, Amelia Pond. I recognized the name and I stared at the little girl in wonder.
Amelia grabbed the Doctor's hand asking about some crack in the wall.
We ended up in Amelia's room, observing the crack in the wall. A faint voice calling out a prisoner zero can be heard through the crack.
The Doctor observed the crack carefully, sonicking it. At that moment, I felt the tingling again.
"Doctor..." I called out. But he ignored me, staring at the opened crack and some eye thing that he said to be the warden of some alien prison.
I turned to Amelia who is staring at me curiously. "Amy, I have to go. Stick with him, okay? He can fix the crack. Be safe."
"Are you leaving?" Amelia asked looking almost disappointed.
"I have no choice. But I'm sure we will see each other again." I said as I faded away.
The Doctor turned to me at that exact moment. He looked like a kicked puppy upon seeing my fading self.
I wanted to say something, anything but it was too late.

Chapter Four: At Last
The Doctor looked at Lee as the TARDIS spun slowly in the Vortex. “I’ve got the coordinates all set. Are you ready to see Donna again?”
Lee nodded. “Please.”
The Doctor flipped the lever, and the time rotor moved up and down with its typical grinding, wheezing sound. Lee shook his head, amazement etched across his features. He studied the TARDIS like someone who’d heard about them all his life and couldn’t believe he was finally seeing one.
“Just n-never thought I would be inside a TARDIS,” he explained when Rose looked at him questioningly.
Rose reached out and patted the central column. “Put on a good show for him, dear.”
The TARDIS lights flashed, and they spun through time and space at a dizzying speed. The ship landed hard enough to send them all to the grating. Everyone laughed, no one harder than Lee.
The Doctor jumped up and brushed himself off. “Let’s go see what Donna and Jenny are up to,” he said, jogging up the ramp.
Rose’s phone chimed, and the Doctor had a sinking feeling he knew what the incoming message said. He waited for Rose to read it, and her sigh confirmed his fears.
“Oi, Sunshine. When we said a week, we meant an Earth week, as in seven days. You’re late.”
“Oh… this is bad.” The Doctor ran his hand through his hair. He could already feel the bleach burning his scalp.
“What’s wrong?” Lee asked.
“We landed a day later than we promised to meet Jenny and Donna,” Rose said as she typed out the text and hit send. She looked up in time to see Lee smile and shake his head. “What?”
“Just imaging Donna’s reaction.”
oOoOo
Donna was in the middle of telling Jenny exactly what she planned to say to the Doctor when her phone chimed with a text notification.
“Oh, that better be them,” she muttered as she fished it out of her purse.
Sorry we’re late, Rose said. We brought something for you.
Donna snorted. “If they think some little rinky-dink souvenir is going to make me forget they actually did strand us, they need to think again.” She picked up her bag and tossed a note on the table to cover the bill. “Come on, Jenny.”
They could see the TARDIS from the edge of the park, and Donna unconsciously picked up her pace. At the moment, she couldn’t tell if she were more eager to be home, or to give the Doctor a piece of her mind. Either way, she was glad to see the TARDIS.
When they were about ten feet away, the Doctor stuck his head out of the TARDIS. “Are you coming?” he asked.
Donna stopped and put her hand on her hip. “Oi, don’t get shirty with me, Spaceman,” she told him. “What did I tell you about not leaving us stranded in Barcelona? You’re just lucky the hotel had a vacancy so we could keep our room for another night—and lucky Jenny was positive you would only be a day or two late.”
An amused chuckle cut off Donna’s tirade, and she whirled around to tell the innocent bystander exactly where he could put his busybody nose.
But the sight of a familiar face drew her up short. “Lee!” she gasped. Then she put her hands over her mouth, for once in her life completely speechless.
“Hello, D- D- Donna.”
The stuttering broke through her shock, and she ran to him, reaching out to touch his face, his hair, anything just to convince herself he was really there.
Her hands finally settled on his shoulders, and she clung to him just as she had in their last moments together in the Library. “Oh God, oh God. Is this real?”
“You’re real,” Lee said, holding her just as desperately. “I hoped you were real.”
“I found you. I promised I’d find you, and I did. I found you.”
Donna pulled back and cupped his face between her hands. “But… how? And where?”
“I got t- t- trapped,” he explained. “Between worlds.”
“When we activated the transmat at the Library, the Reality Bomb was in full effect,” the Doctor explained.
Donna tore her gaze away from Lee to pay attention to his explanation.
“And Lee’s transmat beam, unfortunately, got caught in the Void—the space between the universes. He was literally stuck in a crack between worlds. Somehow, the crack opened up in the bedroom of a little girl in 1996, which was where we found Lee.”
A shiver ran down Donna’s spine. “I thought you said all of that was repairing itself. Closing back up like it had never happened.”
The Doctor tugged on his ear. “Strictly speaking, it didn’t happen. Not in this timeline. Mickey and Pete and Jackie were only able to hop through because Pete’s World ran ahead of ours, and things hadn’t yet—”
“I asked about Lee, not the whole bloody universe.”
He cleared his throat. “Right. Sorry. Welllll… the crack was closing when we found Lee. But he’s here now!” he said quickly, before she could react.
Donna pulled Lee into a hug. “I can’t believe I came so close to losing you,” she whispered. His hand stroked her hair, and she had to swallow back tears. “I spent so long looking for you…”
Rose caught Jenny’s eye and gestured towards the park. Taking the Doctor’s hand, she pulled him towards the trees, trusting their daughter to follow.
oOoOo
Lee closed his eyes and rested his head on top of Donna’s. Her whispered confession eased one concern he’d had—that what they’d had in the Library had all been a lie.
Up until then, he’d felt a bit like he was on a first date, sweaty palms and all. But now… “I was sent to the Library to find out what happened. Instead I found you.”
Donna stepped back half a step and looked up at him. “What do you mean, you were sent?”
He lowered his voice and leaned in. “I’m a Time Agent,” he told her quietly.
“You mean Rose was right?” Donna exclaimed.
Lee chuckled. “Yes, she was.” He frowned. “I apparently spent 100 years in the Library’s mainframe, and I still don’t know what happened.”
Donna smiled and took his hand. “Well I can answer that,” she said. “Come on, let’s go for a walk.”
“We were supposed to have a quiet day in,” Donna started. “I was painting my toes, Jenny was reading, and Rose was painting. Then the Doctor came in and told us to get ready to go…”
Lee listened raptly to the tale, from the message on the psychic paper to the surprise strangers arriving in the Library to the lights suddenly going out.
He sucked in a breath when Donna repeated the Doctor’s warning. “Count the shadows.”
“Vashta Nerada,” he breathed.
Donna rolled her eyes. “Of course you’ve heard of them.” She sighed. “Am I always going to be the only one who doesn’t know things?”
Lee blinked at her. This insecurity… It hadn’t been there in the Library. But maybe the program of the computer had given her the confidence she apparently lacked. It had certainly made other changes, like making his stutter even worse than it was in reality.
Donna took a breath and continued the story. “So, one of the crew was taken. Eaten, I guess. And as soon as the Doctor knew how big of a threat it was, he wanted to send me and Jenny back to the TARDIS to be safe. He dragged us into the little shop, with the transmat pad by the door.”
Lee nodded. That was when their story began, then.
oOoOo
The Doctor wrapped his arm around Rose’s shoulder as they walked the paths in the park. They’d taken off in the opposite direction of Donna and Lee, with Jenny walking beside them, telling them all about their week long holiday.
The Doctor held Rose close as he thought about the other couple and wondered how things were going for them. He remembered how devastated Donna had been when she’d gotten back from the pocket universe in the Library computer. She’d had the life she’d always wanted, but it had been fake.
Hopefully Lee can make it real this time, Rose said, following his train of thought.
He hummed in agreement. I hope so. I just… He took a moment to soak in everything they had—each other, their bond, their daughter walking with them. Donna deserves all of this, too.
Rose stretched up and kissed him on the cheek. “You’re very sweet sometimes,” she whispered.
Her phone beeped before he could reply. Rose checked the text, but all three of them had turned back towards the TARDIS as soon as they heard the chime, guessing what the message was.
oOoOo
Rose smiled when she caught sight of the couple. They were sitting across from each other at a picnic table, holding hands.
It looks like Donna’s worries that the real Lee might not care about her didn’t come true.
The Doctor hummed. Yep. Oh, I’m glad.
Donna saw them first and she jumped up. “About time you got back here,” she snarked. “Although I shouldn’t be surprised you’re late… don’t think I’ve forgotten you were a whole day late getting here.” She gestured at the Doctor’s head. “Nice platinum blonde, I think.”
“But… you…” The Doctor gestured vaguely between Donna and Lee. “I had a good reason for being late! And aren’t you glad the TARDIS took us to Leadworth to find him?”
Donna’s teasing expression faded to happiness. “Yeah. All right, you’re off the hook this time, Spaceman. But next time…” She raised an eyebrow meaningfully.
“So, are we ready to go back to Cardiff?” Jenny asked. “I bet Gran is wondering where we are.”
Rose rolled her eyes. “Mum will find something to mutter about, no matter when we arrive. But, as long as we don’t need to make any stops first…”
She looked at Donna and Lee. “You’re certainly welcome to come with us, Lee. We have a few friends who might be very interested to meet you, actually. I understand if you aren’t up for meeting a whole group of new people today, though. We could drop you and Donna off somewhere and come back after the party, if you’d rather.”
Lee shook his head. “I’ll come with you.”
“Excellent!” The Doctor, still worried about his hair, darted to the TARDIS and unlocked the door. “Come on them, what are we waiting for?”
“I was going to say that your mother-in-law’s anger at you missing the party would be punishment enough, but you’ll just natter on about how this is a time machine.” Donna pursed her lips. “And you’ll be able to get us back in time without her even knowing we were almost late. It’s almost not fair.”
“Jackie’s stubborn refusal to grasp the basics of time travel can be frustrating, but it does have its advantages,” the Doctor agreed.
oOoOo
The Doctor watched his little entourage as he and Rose flew the TARDIS back to Cardiff. Donna was watching Lee like she thought he was going to disappear again, and he had her hand clasped firmly in his own.
Jenny sat on the jump seat, watching the two of them. The Doctor tilted his head and studied his daughter. There was something… off in the way she was holding herself.
Let’s take Jenny for a trip on her own as soon as we can, he suggested to Rose.
Rose turned slightly to watch Jenny for a moment, and then she nodded.
Their landing was soft, and Rose led the way to the top of the ramp. “Time to visit family,” she told everyone. “Lee… I know you agreed to come, but  please don’t feel like you need to spend time with my mum. I love her, but she can be… a lot.”
Lee smiled reassuringly. “I’m pretty sure I’ve met people more difficult than your mum, Rose.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it,” the Doctor muttered under his breath.
Rose glared at him, and he smiled unrepentantly back. They both knew that the faux antagonistic vibe between him and Jackie was all for show… Well, mostly.
“All right,” he said, gesturing for them all to leave the ship. “If we don’t get out there now, she’ll be banging on the door wondering why we’re staying in this box.”
Rose opened the door and started laughing when she saw her mum halfway to them.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” Jackie said. “I don’t know why you’d want to stay in that box when the party is inside.”
Rose stepped outside and moved aside so everyone else could exit the TARDIS. Jackie’s eyes lit on Lee, and Rose nodded. “Donna brought a plus one, if that’s okay.”
Jackie smiled. “Of course! Now come on, the party is nearly started.” She turned and led the way back to the front door.
A car pulled into the drive as they were walking inside, and Rose raised her eyebrows when she realised that Martha and Mickey had arrived together. The Doctor had told her about the timelines he had noticed, but she hadn’t really given it much thought.
The two groups met at the front door and entered the house together. “It’s about time you all got here,” Jack called from the living room. “I was starting…”
His voice trailed off when he caught sight of Lee. “Well hello,” he said. “Jack Harkness, and you are…”
“Not interested,” Donna said firmly. “This is Lee. Lee McAvoy. We met at the Library.”
Rose covered her mouth with her hand to hide her smile at Donna’s clever wording, but to her surprise, Jack’s gaze sharpened.
“Lee McAvoy? At the Library?” he said, emphasising the article.
Donna looked back and forth between the two men. “Oh right,” she said after a minute. “Jack used to be a Time Agent, too.”
“Yeah, and I remember hearing about an agent who was lost in the whole quarantine of the Library.” He looked at the Doctor. “You know, I actually wondered about Lee here when you told us you’d been to the Library. But I assumed if you didn’t mention him that you hadn’t met.”
He looked at Donna, then at her hand clasped in Lee’s. “I guess I was asking the wrong person,” he said, waggling his eyebrows.
“Jaaaaack,” the Doctor said, exasperated.
“You know, I’ve heard of Jack Harkness, too,” Lee interjected.
Jack leaned forward. “Oh yeah? The tales of my greatness go before me?”
Lee shook his head soberly, bur Rose noticed a glimmer in his eyes. “N-no. The tales of your…” He opened and closed his mouth a few times. “Of your nakedness.”
The whole group burst into laughter. “He’s got you there, Captain Cheesecake,” Mickey said, pounding the man on the back.
“Why are you naked in all the stories, Mr. Jack?” a very young voice asked.
Rose bit her lip and looked down at her little brother, who had snuck into the room when no one had noticed. Oh dear, she thought, looking at the unamused expression on her mum’s face.
“Oh really?” Jackie said as she picked up Tony. “What kind of stories have you been telling my little boy, Harkness?”
She ignored Jack’s incoherent sputtering and wheeled on Pete. “And you, Mister. We’ll be talking about you taking Tony with you to work.” She swept out of the room, and everyone let out collective breath.
“I see what you mean, Rose,” Lee offered, and the tension broke into laughter.
Jenny slipped away from the group, making her way to the kitchen. Pete was pulling dishes out of the cupboards. “Can I help set the table?” she said, guessing what he was up to.
“Of course.”
They each picked up a stack of dishes and carried them into the dining room. As they laid plates around the table, Jenny felt her granddad watching her.
“Jackie tells me Donna brought a plus one tonight,” he said after a few minutes.
Jenny’s hand clenched around the knives she held. “Yeah. Lee McAvoy. They were married in a parallel universe, and we’ve been trying to find him.”
Pete nodded; he understood different universes and different lives better than anyone. “I’m glad Donna was able to find him. She’s seemed a little sad this summer.”
Jenny sighed. Donna had been sad, which made her own upset that much more selfish. “Yeah,” she said quietly.
They finished setting the table, and then Jenny followed Pete back into the kitchen. “Of course,” he said, “Lee joining your group changes the dynamics a bit, doesn’t it?”
Jenny bit her lip, then let everything she was feeling spill out. “Yeah. Mum and Dad, and Donna and Lee. And then me. Just Jenny. I’m the fifth wheel.”
She dropped onto a bench and slouched. “I don’t fit anymore.”
Pete held out a hand and pulled her to her feet. “Then you have to find a way to make yourself fit,” he said firmly. “Come on; dinner is just about ready.”
oOoOo
After supper had been cleared from the table, the Doctor clapped his hands. “All right everyone, may I have your attention!”
“Oh, we’d better listen to him, or he’ll find a way to blow up the dining room or something,” Jackie said sardonically. Everyone else laughed.
The Doctor rolled his eyes. “If you’re done taking the mick—”
“Never,” Mickey said.
“Then maybe,” he continued, raising his voice a little, “you’d like to hear my new safety resolution.”
“Oh, for—” Jackie took a large gulp of her wine. “I’m going to regret this, but let’s hear it.”
“Thank you, Jackie.” Finally, everyone quieted and gave him their full attention. “All of you have travelled with us at one time or another, and most of you have had the… let’s say the misfortune of being stranded.”
Mickey nodded. “On a spaceship in eighteenth century France.”
“Quite right, Mickey Smith. And now, we’re all going our separate ways, to a certain extent. Some of us are in Cardiff,” he gestured at Pete and Jack, “Some in London,” Mickey and Martha, “And some of you might not even live in this time.” This to Lee. “And since we all seem to find trouble more easily than most, I’d like to offer… let’s call it a safety button.”
“What are you thinking, Doctor?” Martha asked. “Project Indigo was completely dismantled by UNIT when the Earth was put back where it belonged.”
Jack held up the wrist that had his vortex manipulator. “I’ve got my own safety button.”
Lee reached into his back pocket and pulled out an identical device. “Me t-t-too.”
“Where did you get that?” Donna exclaimed.
Lee pointed at himself. “T-t-t…” He paused and took a breath. “Time Agent,” he said, forcing the words out.
The Doctor interrupted before Donna insisted on a full history of where he’d been hiding his Vortex Manipulator this whole time. “Excellent, the two of you are covered then. But for the rest of you, what I’m about to suggest is the next best thing.”
The soft murmur of conversation around the table stopped and everyone looked at him. The Doctor nodded and launched into his explanation.
“The TARDIS and I have been working on a little project.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out ten thin pieces of wire. “These are homing beacons. I’ll just install these in your mobile phones under the battery. If you’re ever in trouble and need us to come get you, just press and hold 9 and it’ll activate the beacon.”
“I hate to admit it,” Jackie said, “but that’s actually a good idea.”
Everyone around the table nodded and pulled their phones out. The Doctor rolled his eyes at Jackie, but went to work on installing the homing beacons onto all of the phones, working down the line.
The last phone on the table was a plastic toy mobile. He looked down at his young brother-in-law, staring up at him with all the seriousness a three-year-old could muster. “I wanna be able to call you too, Doctor.”
The Doctor ruffled the boy’s hair. “Absolutely, Tony Tyler.” He picked up the toy and pointed the sonic screwdriver at it, letting the sound fill the room for a few seconds before he stopped. Then he handed the toy back to Tony.
“There you go. One Tony Tyler homing beacon, ready to go.”
The nanny, who had been waiting at the doorway, came in and held her hand out. “Come on, Tony, you got to talk to the Doctor like you wanted. It’s time for your bath now.”
“Night, Doctor! Night Rosie!”
“Oh, I don’t warrant a good night,” Jackie said, but the Doctor was fairly certain she sounded less irritated than usual.
Sally, the housekeeper, brought out coffee and tea and placed them on the sidebar. Jackie smiled and thanked her, then looked at the group.
“As long as we’re all making announcements, I’ve got one of my own. You’re all invited to our place for Christmas. We’ve got plenty of room for all of you, if we pull out the couches.”
Mickey and Martha both started shaking their heads. “We can’t get that long off,” Mickey said. “We’ll be doing good to get out here for dinner and back to London before we’re expected to be at work the next day.”
“Oh, come on,” Jackie wheedled. “It won’t be the same without you.”
The Doctor got an idea, and after gaining Rose’s approval, he spoke up. “There is a way we could have a holiday house party and still get everyone to work on time the next day.”
“How’s that, boss?”
Martha got it immediately, though. “If we leave the current timeline for the week, right Doctor?”
He nodded. “We could take everyone off-world for a holiday trip. Pick you all up on the 23rd, say, and then bring you back the next morning. Not only do you get a few days’ holiday, you’ll still have Christmas Day at home to catch up on laundry or whatever.”
“I’m not spending our first Christmas together in a hotel on some strange alien planet,” Jackie protested.
“But we could rent a house,” Rose told her. “You could do all the grocery shopping and bring everything with you, and then you’d still get to host the party just like you wanted.”
Jackie pursed her lips. “You’ll help him find a house?” she pressed.
The Doctor rolled his eyes, but he kept his mouth shut.
“Yeah, I’ll help him.”
Jackie looked around at everyone. “Are you all okay with this?”
Mickey nodded. “It’ll be nice to get away for more than a day,” he said. “UNIT has been working us hard for the last few months, trying to clean up the mess left by the Daleks.”
“All right then,” Jackie conceded. “We’ll go away for the holiday.” She pointed at the Doctor. “But we better not end up on the planet Zhoz.”
“I’ll have you know—”
Jackie waved him off. “Come on, everyone. Get yourself a cuppa and let’s go sit down in the living room.”
oOoOo
Rose took her cuppa and went to an over-stuffed armchair tucked slightly away from the rest of the seating arrangement. She tucked her legs up underneath herself and watched her family.
Jack and Lee were swapping stories from the Time Agency. Donna was sitting pressed against Lee’s side, and every once in a  while she’d interject with a story of her own from traveling on the TARDIS. Rose loved to see her newfound confidence—a year ago, she wouldn’t have felt like she had anything to add to a conversation like that.
A naked streak interrupted her observations. Rose jumped up when she realised the streak was her little brother, dripping wet from his bath. He shrieked with laughter as he darted through the living room.
“Oh, Lord,” Jackie muttered.
“I’ve got him, Mum,” Rose told her as she took chase.
It wasn’t hard to track the little boy. If the puddles of water hadn’t given him away, the constant giggling would have. She caught up with him just before he opened the back door to run out into the garden.
“Oh no you don’t, mister,” she said, scooping him up. “Come on, time to go to bed.”
She waved at Pete and Jenny, who were trying not to laugh. “And apologise to Dad for interrupting him and Jenny,” she instructed.
“Sorry, Daddy!” Tony shouted.
“You’re forgiven, Tiger.” Pete stood up and kissed Tony on the forehead. “Now be nice to Anna. She’s getting her exercise in today.”
The winded nanny smiled tiredly. “Thank you, Mr. Tyler.” She took Tony from Rose. “Come on, young man. It’s bed time for all streaking toddlers.”
“What’s streaking?” Tony asked as they left the room.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Rose, Pete, and Jenny burst out laughing.
When Rose reentered the living room, Jack was leaning back on the couch, a gleeful smirk on his face. “And now I’m not the only one with a naked story.”
