I'd love to be able to put my color associations with cthulhu mythos entities into some sort of coherent order but I can't so instead I enter the discord chat and say shit like "daoloth is blue" and "cthulhu is green but everyone makes him the wrong green" and "azathoth is blue and red but not purple"

I commissioned this from Dreamalgia a while back, and I thought I’d post it here!

I play a Call of Cthulhu game, and a frequent character is the outer god, Daoloth! He’s been changed from the source, and he doesn’t really have much of a personality or motivation his original books, but he’s become one of my favorite characters because of how unique he is as a god.

Maybe I’ll write out a bit more about the campaign later, but for now, I just wanted to put up some art!

The Gods inside Holmes might be Mitra (also known as Mithra, Maitreya and Mithras) and Nyx or Mitra and Aletheia

I know Mithra from Hindu mythology! I have heard quite a bit about Theosophy's Maitreya and the Zoroastrian take on Mithra and I have to say in some ways it can be really fitting...

For Nyx I wasn't really understanding at first but I did ask one of Holmes/EXTRA's authors regarding the matter and it seems like a pretty good guess 🤔 admittedly I am not aware about Greek mythology at all... don't know anything about Aletheia (Google says it is the concept of disclosing the truth)

It is really interesting to speculate! A lot of guesses seem to play on the concept of 'truth and it's revealing', which does play into Holmes' nature...but the Apostles seem to take up a role contradictory to what their true self is, so I really wonder whether we are barking up the right tree or not....

Well! We can only find out in December! Hopefully?!

i was always like, kinda baffled at the fact that the bifrost is associated with yog-sothoth, when the biggest lovecraft thing, color out of space, is its own entity entirely? WELL yog-sothoth IS canonically described as a "congeries [jumble] of iridescent spheres" so i guess! it makes sense!

you could also argue that the color out of space is ALSO associated with the bifrost, ie the eggs from the meteor being what hatched into the squamous things that swarm the train

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE OUTER GODS YOU SHOULD INCLUDE IN TBI THINGS

Daoloth, the render of the veils, is an amorphous metal god that, among other things, can be invoked to see things as they really are (under the assumption that all humans view things through a veil to retain their sanity). Which sounds a LOT like Loki's "My eyes now clear" moment. Let Loki be Daoloth's pursedog.

Nyarlathotep!! As the most human of the outer gods, and as the one who enacts their will, he spends the most time around humans. He also prefers spreading madness over just straight up killing people, so you could tie him to the black box (spreading madness and leaving one survivor)! If you know that in the Norse myth Baldur's death was possibly planned by Odin, you could also say that Nyarlathotep influenced Baldur, thus setting up the eventual Bifrost Incident.

Tru'Nembra isn't very involved, but he is the unsentient flute that lulls Azathoth to sleep. Daemon flute that keeps it dreaming, etc.

AND! AND! The All-mother is not just a genderbend of Odin's All-Father status in myth. It's a title belonging to Shub-Niggurath, also known as "the black goat with a thousand young". She's described as "An enormous mass which extrudes black tentacles, slime-dripping mouths, and short, writhing goat legs." AND SHE IS YOG-SOTHOTH'S MATE! She also continuously spits forth these things called "dark young" which are tentacles and hoofs in the shape and size of a tree. Fucked up.

i’m reading this thread about holmes and they brought up Daoloth as a true identity for holmes and one of the comment brought up moriarty trying to enlist enkidu in an interlude

and it’s absolutely obliterating me.

but it makes absolute complete sense that MORIARTY would even seek enkidu out as PROMETHEUS is also seen as the maker of mankind from clay in some myths

................everything falls so neatly into place

but the truly frightening thing, is this Daoloth one, hastur would be an obvious theme but it still seems far too remote as a king of yellow that fgo holmes does not truly embody much...but daoloth...........?
