Grimm Universe Presents Quarterly: Cinderella Fairy World Massacre no.1 • cover art • Ian MacDonald [Feb 2023]
Cindy is a Serial Killer Princess on a mission…er maybe a little vacation-No. Definitely a mission. As she is now thrust, like a sword through a skull, into the Fairy World, she will stop at nothing…well almost nothingfor a bunch of fairy-related murders, but who knows-to get her friend Gerald back. Taking on a bloodthirsty and psychotic being, these fairies don't know what's coming for them. Don't miss this next chapter in Cinderella's anything but sane journey to find herself… and a raccoon. $8.99 US

Belle Oath of Thorns #6
Tumblr media
Belle Oath of Thorns #6 Zenescope Entertainment 2019 Written by Dave Franchini Illustrated by Alessio Mariani Coloured by Juan Manuel Rodriguez Lettered by Kurt Hathaway     It’s Belle vs CHIP as Belle has become public enemy number one to the cryptid hunting organization. Everything is on the line here. Lives will be lost and everything Belle’s come to know as her life will change forever. Don’t miss this last chapter of Belle: Oath of Thorns!     This has been one of the best limited series in the past year. Not only is the subject matter quite familiar but it showcases the fact that Zenescope has joined the ranks of super-hero storytelling that rivals anything the so-called Big 2 have. What I love about Belle is that she isn't a Highborne but a human woman, albeit one who has been trained in combat and an array of weaponry which quite frankly puts her in league with the Black Widow, in terms of usefulness and interest. What Dave is doing with this arc is utterly phenomenal and how he manages to layer the book with plots and sub-plots and how some meet up while others diverge even further but all wrap up nicely for the moment is really showcasing some incredibly writing chops, see skill & ability.     I am a huge fan of the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold and how the reader learns information is presented extremely well. I like how we see the events come one after another so that it feels like it's in real time instead of feeling as if they are made to fit together. The character development we see here is also rather extremely nice to see. I have a pretty good eye for what's forced and what isn't and to see how the characters act and react to the situations and circumstances they encounter is something that I see as conceivable and real. The pacing is superb and as it takes us through the pages revealing the twists and turns along way we see how it all works together to create the books ebb and flow.     While you won't be singing “be our guest” while reading this, however, you will be intrigued by the names and code-names that people go by. This is the kind of re-imagining of a classic tale, as old as time, that is exciting, fresh and full of unlimited potential. While elements are familiar this team has done a magnificent job in keeping it unique and different while still fitting in with how the Zenescope Universe is.     I love how we see the interiors here. The linework is exquisite and how we see the varying weights being utilised to showcase the attention to detail is marvellously rendered. Trust me there is a heck of a lot of linework going on here and I love it and how it never feels crowded or too much is an accomplishment all it's own. I would like to see a few more varying techniques utilised it would really add an extra layer to the dimension we already see. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such a talented eye for storytelling. The way that we see backgrounds being utilised and how the work within the composition of the panels bringing us this depth perception, scale and that overall sense of size and scope of the book is remarkable. The colour work is divine! How we see the various hues and tones within the colours utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work is brilliantly done. Plus I see here some colour blocking as well as gradation effects and this is how you utilise the imagery, the moment and the placement to create the best it can be.      This is the last issue in the arc so you can contact your shop and ask them to order the trade for you, or head on over to the Zenescope Store on their website. Though I would love you to order this through your shop considering they need your support now more than ever. Regardless you need to order this and discover that there are super-hero stories out there that are accessible and a place to get lost in. Whatever your preconceived notions of Zenescope are you need to trust me and throw those aside and give this a try, you'll thank me for it.

Review: Belle - Beast Hunter #1 (of 6)
Review: Belle – Beast Hunter #1 (of 6)
Zenescope have come a long way in the way that they re-interpret existing fairy tales and fables, morphing them into a recognisable and consistent universe.  Now, they turn their focus on one of the classics, Beauty and the Beast.  Of course, this being Zenescope, it is definitely not the Disney version on show; instead, taking a leaf out of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to some extent, we are…

Zenescope Entertainment recently announced the release of three new mini-series this month. The company plans to publish several brand-new titles throughout 2018 with Van Helsing vs. Robyn Hood, Robyn Hood: The Curse, and Belle: Beast Hunter being the first to hit shelves. These three new series are also part of Zenescope’s popular and continually growing shared universe of characters.
Van Helsing Vs. Robyn Hood is the sixth installment of the company’s hit Van Helsing franchise. Written by Zenescope co-founder, Ralph Tedesco (The Courier, Grimm Tales of Terror), this spinoff series pits two best friends against one another after they discover a criminal’s plan to create a loyal vampire army using a synthetic drug. Van Helsing Vs. Robyn Hood is a four-issue mini-series with artwork by Allan Otero and colors by Leonardo Paciarotti.
Robyn Locksley takes on new adventures in her latest Series, Robyn Hood: The Curse. This six-issue mini-series is being written by comic book industry veteran Chuck Dixon (Van Helsing vs. The Werewolf, Batman, The Punisher) with artwork provided by Julius Abrera and colors by Robby Bevard. Robyn Hood: The Curse follows Robyn Locksley as she finds herself face to face with a terrifying new evil that threatens the lives of her closest friends, Marian and Sam.
Belle: Beast Hunter is penned by Zenescope writer & editor, Dave Franchini (Cinderella: Serial Killer Princess, Spirit Hunters). Belle is a regular girl whose unique heritage forces her to live two very separate lives. Her normal life is that of a grade school teacher in Philadelphia, but the other is that of a well-trained mythical beast hunter. Belle: Beast Hunter is limited to six issues with Bong Dazo and Juan Manuel Rodriguez providing artwork for the series.
Look for all three series this month on shelves at comic book retail stores, digitally at www.Comixology.com, or for direct order through Zenescope’s website www.zenescope.com.
