I'm putting together a bootleg slime tutorial of the musical, if you have footage please read!
PSA: This is my proper post regarding this, I have went through and compiled most of the London clips of Death Note the Musical available online. I still need to sort through some audio, but I'm hoping to put together some kind of bootleg slime tutorial!
More yapping info under the cut.
If someone with extra clips that they've never published *somehow* finds me please dont be afraid to contact. I likely won't put this together fully until i have more footage/audio.
99% of the clips I have access to are from tiktok with text plastered all over, and all the footage I have is in 360p. So it definitely won't be an ideal way to view it. This is intended to be consumed as supplementary material to enjoy the musical and is being put together for archival purposes.
The colors in the sheet represent the sources i gathered the clips from. I have went through what I believe to be all the available clips online.
I still need to sort through several curtain call clips + audio i found last minute. I also need to compile together listings people have made regarding selling/trading clips and see if anyone is up to kindly give clips of portions that im at the very least missing.
I have access to 2 semi-complete scripts made by other fans to track what is missing from the clips i've found, but i'm taking caution in guessing what is missing so basically im overestimating what I'm missing.
The musical itself is a really well made adaption, and although I don't personally enjoy how the london adaptation went I believe its still worth putting together to make an archival of. Hoping this may bring in more people to enjoy this piece of media!
Note: I haven't personally seen the musical live so I don't have my own clips. Hell, I only properly watched death note itself a bit over a month ago, but i really want to contribute to the fandom's archival work in some way with what I can. I do hope this can progress somewhat from the help of others in order to put this together for more people to enjoy it!
Thank you for reading. I'd appreciate any clip or audio, or sharing this around to someone who might. Cheers!
Don't ask me questions about how, but I saw the Death Note Musical Concert, and I'm happy to answer any additional questions anyone has but here are my just initial notes and thoughts
-They added real characterization for Ryuk, particularly with Rem, where it actually feels like he cares about her and she was his only friend and like part of the reason why he killed Light instead of just going back to the shinigami world and letting him do whatever he wanted was because he blackmailed his only friend into killling herself
-They cut the first verse of The Way It Ends, which I'm upset about because it was legitimately one of my favorite parts of the entire score and upped the tempo for the rest of the song
-Occasionally, Rem would be standing in light that would make her white hair have a pink tint, which, if I was the lighting director I would avoid at all costs, given what Aimie's most famous role is, but... I'm not the lighting director, so...
-My brother, who also has seen it, said that he felt like none of the actors had actually seen the anime or read the manga, and that it felt like it was just characters with the same names as opposed to actually being the same characters
-They gave Sayu a way larger role than I was expecting, which, as a younger sister, I strongly approve of
-I thought everyone did a great job but I would definitely be interested in seeing the new Ryuk, Misa, and the alternate L as well
-Once Ryuk writes Light's name, there is an audible ticking sound. I timed it and it's 50 seconds, which is a bit disappointing because otherwise they were so good at following their rules.
-That said, though, Light's pathetic sniveling reprise of Hurricane as he's dying while Ryuk laughs at him was fantastic and 'You may kill like a god, but in the end? You die like a human. Without consequence. Without meaning. And that is the most boring thing of all." being the final spoken words of the musical, especially as Pascal delivered them? Loved it.
-I liked it but it definitely feels like there's a lot of room for additional work if they're planning a proper, sit down production or tour
Those are just my inital thoughts but like I said, feel free to drop me an ask if you have any questions ABOUT THE SHOW. I AM NOT ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW I SAW IT.
okay. my favourite details from the death note musical london performance:
the booklet being paged right to left. with a page at the end saying "you're reading in the wrong direction!"
okay but MISA MISA HAVING LIKE 5 BACK-UP DANCERS LITERALLY ALSO DRESSED UP AS MISA MISA (it was so funny to see them dance around her)
light being dragged along by sayu to misa's concerts. like the Older Brother he is.
misa's concert on stage literally had a rap segment it was WILD
sayu later fangirling over misa's 'latest song' in light's bedroom only for him to be having a life crisis right next to her because of the message in the lyrics. he was sat there like...."ill gladly give you half my years"????
L keeping the "yagami-san", "light-kun" when he talked to them!!!!!! (naturally only happened one time each BUT STILL IT WAS COOL)
ryuk taking any and every opportunity to be sassy. the audience laughed tons at his lines in particular.
like light saying "they're calling it divine justice!" and him responding "or oooh, you know, mass murder. that totally has a ring to it too :D"
L's iconic "well, light...you're the first friend I've ever had." and "what? why are you staring at me? is it...because im the only one who has sweets?" (they changed it slightly cause I think he had marshmallows on a stick? and was walking around with it, gesturing)
after the tennis match, light threw down his racket at L's feet and L held both rackets up awkwardly like a peace offering as he walked towards him
but I swear L nearly DROPPED THEM when misa arrived, I just loved watching him slip into the crowd of fans all eagerly and then the phone call scene afterwards. so iconic.
rem's. vocals. were insane. Borrowed Time. was also amazing.
PUNS ??? during misa's interrogation scene, she's naturally defending light, saying he's not kira, but also defending kira all "kira has saved us all! he's taken away the darkness in society!" ONLY TO HAVE L SNAP BACK "so....light?"
then after this one song finishes, L exclaims "Light!" out of like realisation but then the stage lights actually turn on and he's like.... "oh. convenient :)"
the way the music played in between songs during dialogue was SO GOOD it was really satisfying.
AND THEN THEY REALLY HAD LIGHT SAY "well. they do say the pen is mightier than the sword." near the end. that's just CHEESY
light. laughing. as he was winning against L at the end. "I just wanted to see your face as you realised I won :)" unhinged arrogant boy
only to have him panicking and snivelling on the ground all pathetic as he realises what ryuk's about to do.
and so, at the end. ryuk was sat at the big red chair at the centre after killing light. watching over everything. both dead bodies. the last haunting requiem. it was such a menacing and powerful sight.
