Appalachia has bested me so I gave up on backpacking and booked a last minute room at a government run resort and had dinner at the resort bar (which I will reiterate, is run by the state of Kentucky) and ended up doing shots of bourbon with two middle aged women from a nearby holler who work at the local prison. All of this while in my pajamas.

From now until June 16th, 2024 Toronto Distillery District is hosting the Bourbon St. N. Festival. Come hear the traditional jazz music that cemented New Orleans as the jazz capital. Come hear music created by jazz greats such as Sidney Bichet, James P. Johnson, Fats Waller, King Oliver and many, many more. There are so many famous musicians who got their start there such as Kid Ory and Louis Armstrong. The band on stage is the Trash Panda Brass Band. Here's a link to The Distillery Bourbon Street North Festival https://www.destinationtoronto.com/event/bourbon-street-north-at-the-distillery-district/14154/ *** All photos are taken by Mike Kirkby***

A Tale of Two Cities: Travels to Louisville
A travel post at The Storytelling Blog. Because every place tells a story. Louisville, Kentucky and St. Louis have striking similarities, I think. Do you agree? #travel #Louisville #setting
Louisville, as seen from the Big Four Bridge. Sometimes a new place is much like home. I have traveled to Louisville, Kentucky twice for the Imaginarium Convention, and managed some sightseeing in the process. East on Interstate 64 for about a four-hour drive, Louisville’s fondness for fleur-de-lis emblems reminded me of my home base, St. Louis, and got me thinking about the parallels between…

Kentucky
Bourbon making can be traced back to the late 18th century, standing as a uniquely American spirit known for quality and craftsmanship. Because of specific and high standards, bourbon tastes different than other whiskies such as Scotch, Irish, Canadian or Tennessee whiskey. Bourbon must be made in America and predominantly from corn. This makes bourbon unique among all other styles of whiskey. Furthermore, bourbon is never stored in used barrels. New oak barrels age bourbon slowly over time so it garners a deep amber color and rich flavors as it matures. No artificial colors or additives are ever added. Remember, all bourbons are whiskeys, but not all whiskeys are bourbons.
