Clu is a difficult case as you feel bad for him, you see the system in place that made him into exactly what it is. It’s like other AI’s that so often go bad in fiction, they’re sort of like kids you need to nourish and guide them and tell them what is bad and good etc. it’s not his fault but it is in so many other ways. While he may not be responsible for a crumbling system and maybe wasn’t treated all that at the end of the day-

*by treating a AI like a child is you have to remember while it is a intelligence it’s artificial, it’s new! It’s also a computer it takes thing’s literally, nuance isn’t the strong suit. So to him becoming a brutal dictator and rectifying everyone may seem like the totally logical solution to keep the system from falling apart. No one was around to say “hey buddy, we don’t do that.”
