Four Podcasts We Recommend From iHeart & A Peacock Show
Tumblr media
When a podcast network is involved with hundreds of podcasts, not all of them can be winners. After all, some shows are developed because the person is well-known and that notoriety should attract listeners even if the podcasts stink. Some podcasts pander incessantly to their target audience, while others artificially manufacture controversy for attention -- most sports podcasts.
Of course, here are a select few of iHeart's podcasts that eschew quality for downloads, such as The Joel Osteen podcast -- We didn't forget about Hurricane Harvey!; I Am Paris -- Why would we care? -- Crime Stories with Nancy Grace -- One of the most vile people in podcasting, and Crime Junkie -- Junk is appropriately in the title. However, I do enjoy quite a few of iHeart's podcasts. Today, I'll briefly cover four for you.
Here are four shows that reveal the best of iHeart's podcasts, plus an iHeart podcast that has morphed into a TV show on Peacock.  On Questlove Supreme, superb musical artist, Questlove, sits down with André 3000 for a one-on-one episode that begins with random questions such as morning rituals and favorite breakfast cereal, and evolves deeper into discussions about the flute, jazz and creativity. Adding an extra layer of charm, André brings his flute along, treating listeners to an impromptu musical performance to kick off the episode. Listen to the episode here. Stories from the Village of Nothing Much offers listeners a Seinfeldian charm. In the hustle of our daily lives, it's easy to forget the little things that bring us joy. Inspired by Kathryn Nicolai's beloved podcast "Nothing Much Happens," this show shines a light on the everyday magic we often overlook. These family-friendly stories are an antidote to anxiety and a dose of simple goodness. Tune in on Mondays to visit a place where people are kind and simple things are enjoyed. On Musk with Walter Isaacson could answer the burning question of why has Elon Musk turned into an internet troll and thin-skinned douchebag? Look no further as biographer Walter Isaacson and author Evan Ratliff draw out behind-the-scenes stories of Musk’s epic biography and what the writer has learned as an outsider inside Silicon Valley on the new podcast “On Musk with Walter Isaacson.” Tune in on Tuesdays to learn what it was like to shadow Elon Musk for two years. Pure hell would be my answer. On We the Unhoused, Theo Henderson, an activist, speaker, poet, educator and podcaster, uses his voice to advocate for the unheard in this new show. Each Tuesday, listen in as Henderson unpacks the systemic issues unhoused individuals face with the goal of uplifting voices that are often silenced. Inspired by Henderson’s own journey living on the streets of LA for over eight years, the show provides an intimate look at the unhoused experience. Finally, an interesting development for podcasting. As its popularity grows, more TV shows and movies are based on podcasts. Here's another example.
Peacock announced the limited drama series FIGHT NIGHT: THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST, starring Kevin Hart, who also executive produces alongside Will Packer. Set in Atlanta, the series follows the heavyweight fight and criminal underground heist that introduced the world to the city dubbed “the Black Mecca,” and the cop and the hustler at the center of it all.
The series comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, and is based on the acclaimed true-crime podcast Fight Night by iHeartPodcasts, Doghouse Pictures and Will Packer Media.

She Awoke Behind Death’s Door
Tumblr media
For those who aren’t familiar with the properties, in late May 2014 a few actors filmed at two neighboring white houses in Griffin, Georgia. The manor on the left is the Pritchard-Moore-Goodrich House, a historic building in the area. The right house, the one with the blood above the door, is a residential building. According to reports, the Pritchard house was used for exterior scene while the bloody house was used for interior scenes. (You can find out more in my white houses’ compilation post and tag: X, X.) Recently I had a few revelations about the white houses and filming. Because I also received some asks about the properties, everything will be under a read more because this post is picture-heavy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I know about the Rottweiler. (I addressed the dog in detail here: X.) Ozzy is a specially-trained dog, and he has a background in acting. He first started filming back in October 2013, when he filmed for Those Who Kill (X). Those Who Kill filmed in Rankin, Pennsylvania, a borough south of Pittsburgh (X). Ozzy’s owner likely travels for acting opportunities as he’s taken Ozzy to dog shows, evidence by the trophies he’s won.
Early in the morning on May 21st, 2014, Ozzy filmed for TWD. His owner had tweeted about it. Emily was likely filming that week as she disappeared and her social media changed (X). The dog’s scenes were also probably connected to the white houses filming as there was a dog house and two beware of dog signs, one of which was definitely added to the bloody house just for filming.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While scenes can be relatively short, the scenes Ozzy filmed for were probably longer than most and very involved. On 5x10′s Talking Dead, Lauren Cohan mentioned that she considered to have her dog be part of the pack that finds the group. She ultimately decided against it because the make-up would stain her dog’s white fur for weeks, but she could have done it. If an amateur dog could be used for a scene like in Them, then it means TPTB filmed very involved, action-heavy scenes with Ozzy, who is trained and had to travel from Virginia.
I came across the June tweets when I first researched Ozzy the Rottweiler, but I was unsure of labeling them as TWD-related. (I was still figuring out social media analysis at the time.) Ozzy’s owner typically mentions whatever project the dog is involved in, such as Those Who Kill, and since he answered questions about TWD that day and didn’t feel the need to label the project, work that day was work on TWD. (Ozzy didn’t have any other projects that day.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source (X).
Closed set? Late nights? Those are common for TWD, especially with Emily’s scenes in season 5.
Tumblr media
The blog who asked the owner about his dog deleted the question, but the owner’s response is still there. Ozzy did film two scenes for TWD, and going by the time stamps for the June tweets, they were long scenes, as Ozzy filmed for over five hours on June 18th alone. On June 14th and June 21st that year Emily was in Georgia (X), and she posted intermittently in the week between, disappearing completely on the 18th and 19th. While Ozzy’s owner tweeted about TWD when Them aired, he never actually posted pictures of Ozzy from the episode or responded to those who wondered where the Rottweiler was. Because there were no Rottweilers. Ozzy filmed for something else.
Tumblr media
For the dog anon and the sick anon, please reference my old meta, I’m Not Your Sunshine: X. In that meta, @bethgreenewarriorprincess and I speculated that Team Family took refuge in the bloody white house after Coda. Since then I think it may have been possible Daryl and Maggie, as well as Glenn and Tara, may have not been there when it happened (X). The herd came, and the group that was with Beth’s body tried to escape. The car that was carrying Beth stalled, probably because it got stuck in the mud like in 5x09 (which was a psychodrama centered on all the horrors the group faced since season 4, especially Tyreese). In Coda, Rick passed a truck with a red bag tied to the radio antenna, and it looked similar to Daryl’s red bandanna, which he used to tie down the trunk he and Beth sheltered in. The truck had a fridge/freezer in the bed. If TF took the truck and then left Beth behind in it, she would be safe in the fridge/freezer, even if it were left exposed in the truck’s open bed.
Tumblr media
Neighborhoods make up the outskirts of Atlanta. Christ was entombed outside of Jerusalem, and Beth being left in neighborhood outside of Atlanta would fit the Christ connections. While Beth suffered a gunshot wound to the head, she had an exit wound so the only thing she would really need is to have the wounds covered and to be given antibiotics to prevent infection. (There is evidence already that her head was bandaged (X).) She was left in a car near the white houses.
In 5x09, Tyreese spilled his blood on a painting of a house that is a Beth egg (X). Blood over the door in bloody house references Passover, when the Jews painted goat’s blood over their doors. The act protected them from the plague God sent over Egypt. Beth was protected from death by being in a house marked for death. And in the painting, there is a figure approaching the house. The other day I realized that the figure in the painting was similar to the mystery figure who filmed at the bloody house the night of the 23rd:
Tumblr media
The figure resembles Morgan, matching dismissed rumors on Tumblr from the time that he was on set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the figure’s pack looks lighter than Morgan’s, Morgan’s pack had a lot of reflective objects, so the poor picture quality and spotlight could have made the pack look lighter in color. But otherwise the figure has the same build, shoulders, and costume.
Both houses have a light by the door, and there is a canine creature waiting on front porch in the painting. There was a Beware of Dog sign added to the bloody house, as well as one on the gates next door and a doghouse between this house and the Pritchard manor. Ozzy likely played a dog living on the property. (The actor who walked onto set with Alanna, Chase Vasser, probably played the dog’s owner.) Ozzy would have picked up on Beth if she were locked in the fridge, and he could have led Morgan to her. Morgan then would have taken her back to the white house, where he took care of her before the Grady cops found her.
Tumblr media
Officer Bello clearly shot Beth while attempting to kill Dawn (X), and guilt would have propelled her to find Beth. Beth was also immune/cured of the virus, and that would have been an incentive for all the cops to look for her. As I also went in to my I’m Not Your Sunshine meta, Beth being taken back to Grady would parallel a scene from The Book of Eli, a movie which Gimple pulled from for Morgan and Beth’s stories (X).
Lastly, it appears that Emily filmed a few times at the white houses in May. There were reports of her being at the properties earlier that month (X), and Christy remembers reports of filming taking place during production episodes 2 and 3. (It was probably changed to just 2 post-Coda.) (She remembers it specifically as she had episode 4 in the kiss pool.) In the background of the picture below, you can see the yellow “Do Not Mow” sign still in front of the Pritchard property.
Tumblr media
Why would the sign be left up on the day of filming? Everything else had been prepared, such as the rusted car and the burnt door. The sign indicates that the property wasn’t ready for filming, that TPTB were going to film later, once the grass had grown enough.
Overall, we haven’t seen any of this footage because TPTB are saving them for Beth’s return. Because no way would they cut that much.

Wiebe: Six MLS narratives to root for during the weekend's rivalry action
div.video-js { width: 100% !important; height: 0 !important; overflow: hidden; position: relative; padding-top: 56.2%; }
August 25, 201811:41AM EDT
This is basically me every MLS weekend.
NA-RRA-TIVES! NA-RRA-TIVES! WOOOOOOOOO! https://t.co/9Jlak5k8nj
— Malena (@12thLady) August 25, 2018
There is a lot to be serious about when it comes to soccer, but ultimately the professional game is sports entertainment. Give me quality – we’ve all got our own definitions, that’s another column entirely – and something to talk about, and I’m good.
So yes, I am most definitely rooting for narratives when I post up on my couch to watch Saturday and Sunday night’s Heineken Rivalry Week action. We’ve already got Red Bulls Disappointment™ and Josef Martinez’s dink-and-stare for No. 28 in Orlando, Zlatan being Zlatan (complete with Video Review and bad body language) in El Trafico.
We’ve been spoiled, and there’s still the Canadian Classique and Rocky Mountain Cup to look forward to Saturday and the Atlantic Cup and Timbers-Sounders queued up for Sunday on FS1 (Full TV and streaming info). That’s to say nothing of a six-pointer in Philly and Sporting KC going for four straight wins, neither of which gets the HRW treatment, but is worth your time.
When you root for narratives, every single game has something to offer. Here are six MLS narratives I’m rooting for this weekend, strictly for entertainment value:
Hey, maybe the Union are good!
Bobby Warshaw is driving the bandwagon, but I think I’ve earned the right to ride shotgun.
The hype is real. pic.twitter.com/nZJcFJLQE1
— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) August 23, 2018
So what if David Accam and CJ Sapong have combined to score foul goals following a season in which they combined for 30? So what if Earnie Stewart had one foot out the door during the summer window? So what if they don’t necessarily look like a playoff team on paper?
The Union never felt sorry for themselves, and they’re making a real go of it with a couple teenage central defenders (and Jack Elliott), a midfield that’s quietly been among the best in MLS, Ilsinho putting defenders on posters every couple games and MLS first-timer Cory Burke leading the team in goals.
Thing was, until last weekend’s statement win against NYCFC, the Union hadn’t beaten an elite team. Now they have, we’ll see if it’s a red herring character revealing. The Revs aren’t elite, but this is a six-pointer in every sense of the cliché, and a win could push Jim Curtin’s men as many as seven points clear of the playoff line.
That would be a blow to the playoff race narrative, but the Union underdog narrative (and the possibility of a Accam/Sapong resurgence story) makes up for it.
Tell me again why Toronto FC can’t make the playoffs…
If one playoff spot is up for grabs – for narrative’s sake, let’s hope it’s two come Decision Day – why not have four clubs fight for it?
For that to seem plausible, Toronto FC must win the Canadian Classique (all Canadian, half French and hopefully preventing Impact fans from tweeting me 401 facts!). They must do it without Jozy Altidore, another juicy narrative entirely!
I am still holding out hope that Toronto can show us more than a hint of the dominance that will forever define 2017 in the MLS record books. Altidore’s suspension extension for this match didn’t help.
  Games Wins Losses Draws Win %   With both Altidore and Giovinco 72 38 21 13 52.8 Without Altidore 43 12 19 12 27.9 Without Giovinco 19 8 6 5 42.1 Without both 10 3 6 1 30.0
That’s from MLSsoccer.com’s own Tom Bogert, and he correctly points out that Sebastian Giovinco’s got it tougher given Altidore’s missed more games. But still.
If the Reds are six points out with nine games remaining, why can’t they make a run? I’d rather this particular narrative stay alive as long as possible.
Diego Rubio, a poor man’s Josef Martinez
There was a time this season when Diego Rubio was so far buried on the Sporting KC bench that the prevailing narrative was that he was in Peter Vermes’ doghouse and, once KC landed their much-ballyhooed striker import, would be on the way out.
There was also a time, as recently as last week, that Rubio had four goals on four total shots. Turns out, when he plays, he scores or helps others score. If you’re talking G/A per 90, an even two (6 G, 4 A) is an MLS-best mark, for guys who’ve played at least 448 minutes. Martinez is on another planet from the rest of the league and he’s averaging 1.31 G/A per 90.
With Minnesota United, the Western Conference’s worst statistical defense and winners of one game in 12 on the road, coming to Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday night (8:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info) and Sporting KC on a three-game winning streak in which Rubio’s scored three times, I’m going to go ahead and assume he’ll get another or two this weekend to keep us talking, even if Matt Doyle sorta poured cold water on that one in his weekend preview. Narrative over numbers.
That’s fun because it keeps the “Do SKC need a striker? And is it Krizstian Nemeth?” narrative rolling and tightens the race at the top of the Western Conference.
It’s not gaslighting, the Rapids are worth watching
Speaking of striker narratives…
Here is your #RSL stat of the day. When Corey Baird plays, RSL scores every 58.6 minutes. When he is not on the field the team is scoring a goal every 84.6 minutes. #RSLStats
— Charles Barnard (@ccb1212) August 24, 2018
The nice thing is I can root for the Homegrown, domestic No. 9 narrative AND the Rapids being somewhat fun to watch. They aren’t exclusive! And the Rapids are somewhat fun to watch, which is not what they’ve been for long stretches for a long time. Teams that play pretty soccer don’t generally have to write newspaper editorials promising to improve.
Know how there are those players, usually Homegrown, that come up with a little or a lot of hype then see injuries, coaching decisions or remove them from the radar? Dillon Serna has been one of those guys. Keep playing him, Anthony Hudson. You’ve got nothing to lose.
#SeñorWayne and D.C. United are playoff bound!
It’s hard to resist this one right now. Five-game unbeaten streak, loaded home schedule at brand-spanking new Audi Field and Wayne Rooney making Lucho Acosta look like Diego Valeri circa 2017.
Black-and-Red, baby! You can’t hold them back, c’mon!
I’m a big fan of what the Red Bulls do as an organization, but since they can recover from an Atlantic Cup draw and there’s not really a strong Supporters’ Shield narrative given Atlanta’s lead and form, give me a viral Rooney moment, Bill Hamid hallway histrionics, three points for D.C. and a razor-thin race for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Added narrative benefit: the blue and red sides of New York in a tighter battle to avoid the Knockout Round and, per usual, Red Bulls Disappointment™.
Sounders win 8th straight, push Timbers below the line
No, I don’t have anything against you, Timbers fans.
It’s just that winning eight straight and jumping your archrival in the standings while pushing them out of the playoff field really does it for me from a narrative perspective.
What a Heineken Rivalry Week finale this promises to be. Enjoy your weekend everybody. I’m on vacation through Labor Day. Be well.

Scofflaw Announces Partnership with BrewDog USA
Pictured: James Watt, co-founder and CEO at BrewDog, and Matt Shirah, co-founder and president of Scofflaw Brewing
December 7, 2017
Scofflaw Brewing Company today announced a new partnership agreement with BrewDog, the internationally renowned craft brewer. The agreement will give Georgia-based Scofflaw access to the brewing and canning operation at BrewDog USA’s new state-of-the-art U.S. headquarters near Columbus, Ohio.
Scofflaw will use exclusive access to the eco-friendly Ohio brewery to expand production of its canned beer for distribution in Georgia. The one-year agreement enables BrewDog to utilize excess brewing capacity while the company, which is celebrated for its punk branding and craft beer advocacy, builds its U.S. market.
(READ: 3 Things You Should Never Say to a Craft Brewer)
The agreement was reached by James Watt, co-founder and CEO at BrewDog, and Matt Shirah, co-founder and president of Scofflaw, which recently announced an expansion that will increase capacity to 30,000 barrels annually at its Atlanta brewery. Scofflaw Brewmaster Travis Herman and Tim Hawn, the recently named COO for BrewDog USA, will coordinate the brewing.
“James and Tim have offered us a bridge,” said Shirah, “one that will allow us to radically improve our canning capacity and capabilities. We can, no pun intended, continue to produce beer and simultaneously build out our third expansion.  We are also working to develop our own, more sophisticated Atlanta-based canning operation. Our current draft production facility and tasting room will stay in place and where it belongs, on Atlanta’s Westside.”
“Since opening earlier this year, our brewery in Ohio is now up and running and firing on all cylinders,” said Watt. “When we started work on it back in 2015, we built it with expansion in mind, so it’s awesome be able to use some of the excess capacity we currently have to help out Scofflaw. The beer scene in America is so inclusive and eclectic and it’s been exciting to join the raft of amazing breweries out here. Our partnership with Scofflaw shows how supportive the scene can be, and we’re excited to be able to sip some Scofflaw beers in our very own DogTap in Ohio!”
(READ: 7 Simple Ways to Give Craft Beer as a Gift)
The agreement will incorporate additional projects, including a collaboration beer and Scofflaw beers poured at the Columbus brewery’s DogTap bar and restaurant. “The BrewDog and Scofflaw brands share an independent, brash attitude as well as a passion for brewing high quality, creative craft beers,” said Shirah. “Given BrewDog’s new state-of-the-art brewery here in America and our goals to increase production, this makes for a good relationship.”
Shirah said the line-up of canned beers brewed in Ohio will include Basement IPA, Double Jeopardy and Hooligan as well as other newly canned beers once test brewing has been completed.
###
About BrewDog USA
The company’s new 100,000-square foot brewery in Canal Winchester, Ohio covers 42 acres and has a capacity of 85,000 barrels. It includes the DogTap bar and restaurant as well as The DogHouse, the world’s first craft beer-themed hotel. Currently under construction, the hotel located next to a new sour beer facility will feature hot tubs filled with beer among other amenities. The brewery plans to build at least five BrewDog bars across the United States in the coming years.
About Scofflaw Brewing Co.
Co-founded by Matt Shirah and Brewmaster Travis Herman, who developed beers on a one-barrel system in the basement of the home of Shirah’s mother-in-law, Scofflaw opened in August of 2016.
