One thing I find clever about PL4 is how Emmy reads *Clark’s* letter aloud. We don’t get a voice-over of Clark reading the letter, like with Dr. Schrader, Future Luke, Janice or Angela. (Even if two of those letter-writers were not who they claimed to be!)

Clark isn’t the one who wrote the letter. It’s Luke.

Layton mentioned that Clark was never a fan of ‘typed-correspondence’, but it’s kind of implied that Layton hasn’t contacted Clark in years— long enough to not know where the Tritons were living.

But still, as Layton said, he would never ignore a friend in need. Even after they fell out of touch, he still came rushing to Misthallery to help Clark, knowing something was fishy about the letter.

He still hurried to Monte d’Or to help Angela, despite their troubled past.

He answered Janice’s plea for help— a former student who he cared about enough to risk his and Luke’s life.

Then there’s Dr. Schrader— Layton is absolutely SHOOK when his old mentor suggests that he will open the Elysian box. Layton is even more shook when he finds Scharder’s body on the floor.

Of course, Layton wants to help the letter-writer claiming to be Future Luke, as unlikely as that sounds. Maybe it’s not really Luke, but it’s still a person asking for Layton’s help, so Layton will answer.

And now I’m thinking about how Layton might have emotional constipation, but he still cares about his companions so much. He just doesn’t show it in obvious ways. Maybe that’s why he likes letters so much…

And didn’t CLAIRE give him a letter when she was going to confess her feelings to him?

I’ve been struggling with drawing him for a while now, especially his hair and face, and I’ve been thinking about how his design has probably changed the most out of everyone. His appearance has always been incredibly inconsistent, and while it used to irk me (mostly because it makes it hard to find reliable drawing references) I’ve come to have an appreciation for every variation, and I’m starting to realize why they exist at all.

I don’t think there will ever be a completed or finalized version of gideon’s design, and it has to do with his oddly contradictory and complex personality/character.

On one hand, he’s a manipulative, cunning, vengeful, smooth-talking maniac. He owns an incredibly successful media company, of all things, and is a total dick to almost everyone around him, showing little care for his allies. Yet he’s also a romantic obsessive who can’t handle a rejection and goes through the effort of forming an entire league to control ramona’s love life despite not really seeming to even know why he bothers at this point.

But at the same time… he’s also a huge nerd and a hopeless loser who watches anime and binges junk food in his spare time, who ends up yielding to the first woman more assertive than he is. He’s kind of ridiculous, to put it simply, and every iteration has its own interpretation of the character.

It’s very difficult to capture all sides of his character in one, singular design because truthfully, gideon is one of the more complex characters in the series, having such an odd array of characterics that somehow just work, yet are nearly impossible to display all at once.

I think the best design so far is still the comic book version, which has a good overall balance between nerdy, business and crazed lunatic, but I think every design so far has its own strengths to boast, none of them really feeling… complete? if that makes sense? There’s something to like in every version, yet none have contained his full character. There is no perfect look for him. My own version that i’ve drawn feels a little too… soft for my liking. I don’t know how to visually communicate everything at once. You can only get the full picture by looking at every iteration.

in conclusion, character design is fucking hard. I have a great respect for anyone who has to make characters for a living.

Something that I feel I should mention, is how I don’t get too involved into any fandoms, and a particular reason for why is because of the experience I went into after what happened at the end of season 5 of Clone Wars, you know the sabotage arc. I made it very publicly how I very much hated it, because of the sudden character change of Barriss, and how she seemed to had been treated as a plot device for Ahsoka’s story growth thing. I was being defensive for Barriss because I couldn’t bear her being turned into an antagonist, and because of that I started getting harassing type of messages, even a few private ones sent directly to me, I remember a particular person over at deviantart kept sending me these harassing messages, and even after I blocked them they made another brand new account just so they can continue the messages. Thankfully that only lasted for a little bit. Yet that whole experience soured me, and decided I will not get myself involved doing fandom things.

Things are different now though, I do get and understand that not all fandoms are the same, and there like different parts of Star Wars fandoms that dedicate themselves to something specific within, and that’s cool. I certainly feel involved with the Barrissoka fans with my little drawings that I keep doing, and most recently I’ve been getting plenty of love and attention for it, and that’s something that makes me feel happy and even proud of it.

Now as for the upcoming tales of the empire show. we are going to get Barriss back and this time she is the main star, seeing several people posting their theories, hopes and ideas of how is going to be for her, it does seem like it will be a hopeful type of story for her. I myself am going to wait until they released it, and see what other people’s reactions will be, if it’s a positive one then I’ll see and figure out how can I get to watch it, because I no longer have a Disney+ subscription and thus can’t actually watch it as it premieres.

If I was remaking this blog w/ a coherent theme again in 2023 (which I’m not) it would likely be something like “why didn’t anyone tell me?” and focus on all of the advice, healing, reparenting, career, life skills, relationships, surviving post-child abuse, becoming a self-caring adult stuff I so clearly like to write about 😂 Then talking about the evils of capitalism and pro social justice stuff would still fit the theme seamlessly.

Damn the sole survivor really goes through the most gut wrenching shit ever. None of the other fallout protagonists even compare to sole’s tragic life (canon wise). They’ve lost everything and I mean everything. The only thing that can still relate them to this world at all is their son, but at this point he’s not even your son anymore, he’s the Institute’s son. And I love this direction in writing so much honestly, but it needed to be handled better than it was. I was completely captivated by the main story in the first act, right before you meet Kellogg. If they kept up that kinda vibe, Fallout 4 could’ve had the best storyline going on. I also just really love tragedies lol

Soooo first of all The mermaid story was fucking fire. Like, wow. I love the longing and desire for her on Simons part. Absolutely amazing. I have two questions tho, I hope that's ok. After everything, can she still turn into her mermaid form? And what exactly is Simons realm? Is it like our world but like an alternative universe kinda stuff or like completely different than our world? Again this was stunning and so beautifully written. You never disappoint❤️👍

Thank you SO much, I'm so glad you liked it! 🩵 I was a little nervous about it because it's a bit dark thematically with the heart eating and magical dub con but I had so much fun with it, I hoped others would too. I've been working on it since Florence dropped Mermaids in April so it was definitely a labor of love.

In regards to your questions: 1. You can still turn into your mermaid form. It has been your primary form for centuries, and how you lived most of you existence, so I don't think Simon would want to take that from you completely. You do have to live on land in Faerie, and this exact conundrum is why he agonized about taking you for so long. Fusing his magic with yours is how he solves it, it gives you the ability to choose your form as you please, by drawing on different sides of the power. I imagine he builds the two of you a new home, a castle by the sea where you can visit the ocean as much as you choose. Your children inherit this ability too, cute little babes with pointed ears and the power to switch between legs and a tail. They play hide and seek in the shallow pools and sandbars by your home.

2. Simon is from Faerie. It's a completely different realm from ours, but still in the same universe. When you smell him in the bar, and envision the forests and the oceans, with the aquamarine sea and shallow pools, that's his realm. It's different from the mortal world, but you find some surprising similarities like gravity (which you hate, because legs are difficult to operate and balance/coordination is not your strong suit) and food, with both mortals and Fae eating things that grow from the ground and livestock animals. There are also vast differences, like Faerie has it's own magical council (who is pissed at Simon, by the way. He technically snatched another magical being from a completely different realm without asking them…) and the wine there is strong enough to sedate an ox. There are new laws, new customs, and you have this new, wildly powerful magic living inside of you that makes everything very overwhelming in the beginning and Simon is wracked with guilt, but you eventually begin to adjust.

Reasons why I love Bugsnax cuz I need to talk about this game which has now consumed me completely (there’s some spoilers here and there, as I’m just writing down stuff I can think about at the moment)

All the characters are neat, and are so fun to interact with-

Considering the situation they are in, I think how they all interact with each other is very realistic, which I love. Like, there are friendships and cute romantic relationships, but there are also not so good relationships that aren't toxic but still make for a good dynamic within the group

All the character designs (both grumpus and bugsnax) are peak marketable plushie designs (I want the Bunger and Strabby plushie so badly)

The bugsnax are so silly :) They are just kinda bug, kinda snax :)

The Bugsnax reminds me of Pokémon, except you don’t make them fight, you just feed them to your friends- Like, how they say their own names, some are harder to catch than others, and just the look and vibes of them

There are multiple lgbtq characters, but not forced or marked-like. They are just there, like it's completely normal, which makes me so happy (Like Floofty is disliked by practically everyone, but no one misgenders them, which means it’s just… normal)

The names of everyone are so fun, from just misspelled normal names to straight-up muppet-esque names (Triffany - Tiffany, Elizabert - Elizabeth) (Wambus, Gramble, Floofty)

If I had a nickel for the amount of times I got emotionally attached to the one “good” parasite who have the name combo of “S_out”, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice. (Sprout aka the buggyball from Bugsnax, and Scout from hello puppets)

I love the Bugsnax, especially the strabbies, they’re so silly :)

The lore is so good and fun, and I might have just been on a “oooo fun game” high, but I didn’t really catch any plot holes or plot lines I heavily disliked, so it’s good :)

Then again, it does have some darker themes, already showing before the ending, and it’s a good ending no matter, story wise (I did not nor will I ever have the guts to get the bad endings tho, like no, that would hurt too much)

Also if you get the ✨secrets✨, it looks like it could ramp up to a sequel, which I absolutely want

The journalist aka the player character, is very much a self-insert type protagonist, but they’re also not just a reflection of the player. Like their little notes and drawings for quests and such are so fun and cute (also for the people who decided that the most common name for the journalist is “Buddy”, I love you /p /hj (no hate to other journalist names of course, I just like Buddy))

The fact that the player also is allergic to Bugsnax is so fascinating to me, like we survive of sauces, but feed everyone else (technically not including Shelda and Gramble, but they can both eat Bugsnax, just have other reasons why they don’t). It works so well with angst, cuz on the island we have the journalist who can become sick after a while but still trudges on, and after the island, well, there’s definitely some guilt there from feeding everyone

I dunno why, but I love the idea of banjo-pop music, and I would like to thank Wiggle for introducing me to it

I also love Broken Tooth island just showing up, like it really shows there’s something weird about the Bugsnax islands (both Snaxtooth and Broken tooth). Not to mention how weird Snaxtooth is, with hot desert almost bordering frozen solid mountain

Snaxtooth is really an adventurer’s dream come true, which is why it humors me so much that some of the grumpus who joined the expedition are just… normal people. Who just joined, like for a vacation??? It’s funny

I managed to get all the achievements which I’m very proud of myself for managing :) I also have done all mail requests, and that’s just because of the wonderful people who made a guide for how to catch 5 different Bugsnax in 60 seconds or 10 Bugsnax in 90 seconds

Over all? Silly game which definitely also deserves its psychological horror tag, but I adore it
