GG and DD’s Projects
Tumblr media
I get the sense that there are a lot of turtles who haven’t seen GG and DD’s projects, so I’ve put together a compilation of links where you can view some of their most interesting work.
This is not intended as a comprehensive list, just a list of the projects that I feel are most interesting/best reviewed.
IMPORTANT
Wherever possible, I urge everyone to please use paid options for viewing, even if it is a bit of a pain in the ass. When you do so, you are supporting GG and DD in tangible ways that will help them. Also don’t forget to support with your likes, ratings and comments.
Unfortunately sometimes pirated options are all that’s available. I recommend only using those if you have no other choice (if you can’t afford to pay or are in a country where paid options aren’t available to you).
Some of their projects are available on Netflix, Amazon Prime and other streaming services, so don’t forget to check those services if you have them.

Douluo continent 2 is officially on and not surprisingly Xiao Zhan isn't in it. I still really loved season 1 though, and can't imagine anyone else as Tang San so I don't know if I can watch season 2, so I'm a bit sad. Seems to be official that he won't be in JOL 2 either, although we don't know who his replacement will be yet.
yeah, probably won’t watch season 2 either bc there’s the donghua that’s extensively long 🤒 i’m actually fine that he’s getting replaced in JOL 2 bc his character didn’t really stand out that much to me tbh

Best dramas I’ve watched in 2020 so far (and some not so good ones) Part II
part 1 here
Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain - based on Once Upon A Time, There Was A Spirit Sword Mountain by 国王陛下 (translation dropped at chapter 50 out of 884 back in 2017). A combination of satire/comedy with complex themes. The emotional investment sneaks up on you out of nowhere and hits you like a sack of bricks. An interesting twist on the master/disciple relationship. Meh on the special effects. Excellent female characters. Solid plot, endless fanfic potential, all the found family your heart desires. Much more gay than you’d think. Needs Season 2, but Season 1 can be watched over and over again. 9/10
Handsome Siblings - based on Twin Heroes by Gu Long. Feel good ending. A decent amount of angst. The most heartwarming drama I’ve watched all year. Funny and insightful and a joy to experience. Meh on the special effects. They don’t know they’re brothers. Plot drags only in a few places, and not for very long. A variety of female characters, but mediocre on their portrayals. A sect comprised of only female disciples - I would like to see it. Contains one of the three het couples whose happiness mattered to me in the entirety of 2020. An endless well of hilarity and angst. Can be watched over and over again. 8/10
Love and Redemption - based on The Glass Maiden by Shi Si Lang (translation ongoing). A wild ride from beginning to end. Intentionally and unintentionally funny. Gay subtext. Contains one of the three het couples whose happiness mattered to me in the entirety of 2020. A plethora of excellent and complex side characters. A feral bottom snake god. A merman who gets kidnapped once a week. Buckets of angst and frustration and misunderstandings. Gorgeous aesthetics. The male lead is tortured more often than all the other characters combined, but he looks hot while going through it. A+ for the sheer wildness of the plot, C- for all the misunderstandings; there has to be a limit somewhere. 7.5/10
The Rise of Phoenixes - based on The Rise of Phoenixes by 天下归元 (translation ongoing). Contains one of the three het couples whose happiness mattered to me in the entirety of 2020. If you judge the seriousness of the drama by the relative hotness of the Emperor, casting Ni DaHong should tell you everything you need to know. An abundance of court intrigue, suspense, and humor. Complex themes, steady plot progression, no scene time wasted. Costumes and set design out of this world. Smart and witty. The most thought provoking drama I’ve watched all year. Ni Ni is a goddamn goddess and should be worshipped daily. 10/10
Legend of Two Sisters In the Chaos - based on a novel I can’t seem to track down anywhere. Meng ZiYi must have some serious back pain from carrying all forty episodes on her shoulders. Interesting premise, shaky execution at best. Main het relationship did not excite, nor were the acting skills comparable; Meng ZiYi deserved better. Wang ZhuoCheng gives a decent performance. The drama does pack an emotional punch if you stick around long enough to get invested. Forty episodes long, but sometimes seemed twice that. Definitely entertaining, but not engaging. 6/10
The Wolf - also based on a novel I can’t track down. Too much romance, then angst, then romance. The dreaded love triangle. Dropped the drama three times, then went back because Xiao Zhan. Darren Wang gives decent performance, but does not have much to work with. Li Qin’s skills utterly wasted on this role. If you’re not invested in the love story, you’ll get bored. If you’re invested, you’ll be emotionally numb half-way through. Good fight scenes. Not so good special effects. 5/10 for the actors doing their best with what they had.
Dance of the Phoenix - based on Dragons Flies Phoenix Dances by 明月听风 (translation dropped at chapter 27 out fo 85 in May of 2020). Yu Mingye deserved better. Female main character + mostly female side characters. Excellent + complex villains, also female. Judging by the costumes + special effects, not much of a budget to work with. Cop-out in the last few episodes to neatly tie up the plot that was... not very intricate to begin with. Vastly entertaining but not that deep. Buckets of angst, but plenty of humor to ease the pain. Lan JingYi fights with a fan. Good fanfic potential. Godawful ending. 7/10 for the best villain I’ve encountered all year.
Legend of Fei - based on Bandits by Priest (translation ongoing). Zhao Liying slays. A variety of compelling female characters. Excellent fight choreography. Interesting premise, steadily progressing plot. Potential for many disaster bisexuals. May contain the fourth het romance I’m invested in this year, but it's still too early to tell. Wang Yibo in his element as Xie Yun, may even produce a better performance than his role in The Untamed. The drama is still only 7 episodes in, will give ranking when finished. ?/10
Looking forward to:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi
Winner Is King - based on the danmei novel Sha Po Lang by Priest starring Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan
A Tale of The Wanderers - based on danmei novel Faraway Wanderers by Priest starring Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun
Douluo Continent - based on xuanhuan novel Soul Land by 唐家三少 starring Xiao Zhan and Wu Xuanyi
Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi
Feng Qi Long Xi - based on historical novel of the same name by Ma Bo Yong starring Zhu Yilong and Deng Lun
Sword Snow Stride - based on the xuanhuan novel The Snowy Path of the Heroic Blade by 烽火戏诸侯 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Hu Jun
Heaven Official's Blessing - based on danmei novel of the same name by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu - cast unknown
Thousand Autumns - based on danmei novel of the same name by Meng Xi Shi - cast unknown
Joy Of Life Season 2 - based on wuxia novel of the same name by 猫腻 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin
A League of Nobleman - based on danmei novel The Society of Four Leaves by Da Feng Gua Guo starring Song Weilong and Jing Boran
Flying Phoenix - based on danmei novel of the same name by 風弄 starring Dai Jingyao and Shu Yaxin

So, I started following a bunch of c-drama blogs and I really want to get into it. Where would you recommend a newbie start? What's your favorite show? 😃
Oooh. Uh... i don’t watch that much C-drama. I really don’t think I do? I watch more C-drama than I do other things... but uh.. i’m mostly slow.
Favorite show? Nirvana in Fire. Hands down. Best pseudo-period C-drama. Do I think you should start there? No. uh. yeah. get some sense of structure and tropes and what not first.
I really don’t know where to start. I started probably with Legend of Condor Heroes when I was 10ish? I still remember being really excited by a girl dressed up as a boy jumping on people’s shoulders. I loved Jin Yong wuxia the way a lot of people love tolkien.
Then the next major thing I watched was Princess Pearl 还珠格格 (1998 with Zhao Wei and Ruby Lin and some dudes i can’t remember) and with it I somehow got my parents to let me binge watch 像雨像雾又像风 and 情深深雨蒙蒙. I’m not sure if you can find either of the latter two titles easily. But one stars Zhao Wei and the other has Zhou Xun and Chen Kun. I enjoyed both of them. I was also 15 when i watched it.
I watched a TON of wuxia dramas between 2000 and 2005. Anything adapted from Jin Yong titles I watched... so 笑傲江湖, 神雕侠侣, 射雕英雄传, 倚天屠龙记, 天龙八部. I also read the novels... But after a while I got sick of the industry cycling the same 10ish IPs... so i stopped paying attention.
Oh! I did watch Meteor Garden which I loved. but it was part of a craze in like 2001-2005ish. I tried to watch other chinese/taiwanese adaptations of manga... i liked mars. couldn’t get through watching 战神.
Uh.. in 2014/2015 ish there was a cdrama called tiger mom 虎妈猫爸 that i thought was hilarious. It had Zhao Wei (previously mentioned) in it. I loved it. very modern drama. idk how good it is all things considered. I also liked my sunshine 何以萧笙默. but that’s because i like the way the leads looked. it was a very mellow drama. sad, melancholy. i watched some other stuff with 唐嫣 in it.
Then i watched NiF. NIF is SO GOOOOOD. I cannot begin to explain. After NiF, i watched the Disguiser. Which was also good but it suffered from not being NiF. NiF sets the bar and the bar is HIGH. I also tried watching ode to joy and never finsihed it...
Where to start? The Untamed seems like a good fit for many people. Since Nov 2019, I have watched:
Eternal Love, Ashes of Love, The Untamed, Ever Night, Dating in the Kitchen, Word of Honor, Love o2o, King’s Avatar, Love and Redemption, And the Winner is Love.
I recommend Untamed, Ever Night, and Word of Honor. Word of Honor comes with warnings that the plot isn’t compelling and it gave a friend nightmares due to treatment of a disabled character. Also, Ever Night is only season 1. Things are not done. S2 is very very different. I cannot get through ep 1 of S2. but S1 is so delightful i don’t regret watching it.
Eternal Love was ok but the female lead can’t really act. Some of the side characters are interesting. It was a solid not awful. Dating in the Kitchen is modern and cute and a little contrived. Love o2o was really sweet but really boring. It was good bkgd noise for gif making. King’s Avatar was a bit more compelling than Love o2o but long and i wasn’t paying that much attention. It was ok enough i guess. They’re both videogame-centric. And the Winner is Love isn’t great. Love and Redemption was a bit better than Eternal Love but annoyed me at many points.
I do not recommend Ashes of Love. It is pretty at points and Luo Yunxi is a delight. There is a side ship that’s cute. Everything else about it can burn.
What is on my list/WIP:
Joy of Life -- i like it so far. i’m about 6/7 eps in... but got distracted.
Sleuth of Ming Dynasty -- i also like this a lot. 8 eps in. doing it as a groupwatch.
Legend of Fei -- 5-6 eps in. Fun so far. got distracted by Word of Honor. oops.
Rise of Phoenixes -- 3 eps in. really good but i need to be able to focus on it... and i’m bad at focus lately. did i mention i’m obsessed with word of honor?
The Romance of Tiger and Rose -- hear it’s cute. I have it DL-ed. haven’t started.
Things I have on my hard drive:
Legend of Miyue, Dance of the Phoenix, Fights Break Sphere, Douluo Continent. IDK if i’ll watch any of these but I’ve heard good things about Legend of Miyue.
I don’t know if i’ve helped... but i tried. Orz

2021 Drama Wrap-up
Since this year has been heavy on watching tv/media, here is a summary of what’s made the top of my watch list. This won’t matter to anyone else, just documenting it for myself.
Favorites
Luoyang
Tumblr media
Historical/period. No surprises here, if anyone paid attention to my tumblr for the last month. Almost perfect, so best overall 2021 show for me. I summed up my feelings in a previous post.
Word of Honor
Tumblr media
Wuxia. If it hadn’t been for Luoyang, this would have been my favorite 2021 show. Not perfect, but the dynamics were so good, the characters were often well realized, and this show has an added benefit of reminding me of another pair I dearly love.
Shadow & Bone
Tumblr media
Fantasy. I didn’t know anything about the show going in and was blown away by the world. Again, not perfect, but checks so many of my fantasy boxes. Not at all feeling the dynamic between Alina and either love interest but love the secondary characters so, so much. Eagerly awaiting another season.
Heaven Official’s Blessing
Tumblr media
Xianxia. I wasn’t sure whether to add this, since only the first season of the donghua has aired so far, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the story and read the book (translation) online as a result. I hope the live action drama (Eternal Faith) airs in 2022, but at least season 2 of the donghua will be out soon.
Miss the Dragon
Tumblr media
Xianxia. Good, but not great. Visually pretty, and I am a sucker for god/demon, heaven/hell, reincarnation stories. I am putting this on my list for the secondary storyline, not the main one.
2021 Dramas: still watching
Beforeigners, season 2
Tumblr media
Fantasy/crime drama? So far, as gritty and graphic as season 1, and I still love the lead, Alfhildr. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
Wheel of Time
Tumblr media
Fantasy. Just like when I tried to read the first book decades ago, it is not really grabbing me. But since there are so few episodes in the first season, I am going to finish them and then assess. If I can watch a 40 episode, mediocre CDrama, I can certainly watch this.
The Witcher, season 2
Tumblr media
Fantasy. Definitely not feeling this season like I did the last, but as with Wheel of Time, the season is short, so I’ll finish it.
2021 Dramas: still watching but not particularly invested
Ancient Love Poetry
Tumblr media
Xianxia. How I want to love this because it has all the elements I love in xianxia. But honestly, it’s boring, and I’m not even halfway through the 49 episodes. It also looks so cookie cutter.
Douluo Continent
Tumblr media
Xianxia. Xiao Zhan is easy on the eyes and this content is again something I should really like, but it’s not grabbing me (7/40 episodes down). Maybe I’ve overdosed on too many xianxia this year.
Sword Snow Stride
Tumblr media
Wuxia. I like this one better than the two above, but mostly because I’m super intrigued by Daoist scholar/martial artist Nangong PuYe. I am not too many episodes in (5 of 38) but would prefer to watch a show about her rather than the main story here. I hope they don’t off her like they do in all Chinese dramas. But I bet they do.
2021 Dramas: not really feeling, may not finish
Novoland: Pearl Eclipse
Tumblr media
Wuxia. The main couple don’t do it for me, and to be honest, I really only started watching this because Xu Kai Cheng is in it (sheds a tear for the mad/crazy painter), but I really, really dislike his character. Like actively hate. Plus, I know how it’s going to end and once again the way Chinese dramas treat all the female characters so terribly is just too disappointing and makes me just not care to finish anymore.
Wu Assassins
Tumblr media
Fantasy/Crime drama? Wanted to like it, ‘cause how many Chinese American shows are there?? But after two episodes, not feeling it.
There were a bunch of 2018 - 2020 shows I watched, too, but going to keep this short by sticking to 2021.

CHINESE DRAMAS MUST WATCH
[Part 3]
🔥 DOULUO CONTINENT
Genre: Fantasy Adventure Wuxia
Rating: 1000/10 (Ahh my scale broke again!)
WUXIA RATING: ⭐⭐⭐
Date Finished Watching: 04/01/2022 ~01:30Am
Tumblr media
AHHH MY BOY DID IT AGAIN!!! Xiao Zhan ikaw na talaga!!! This drama is so amazeeeng! Again I felt what I felt while watching my fave drama ever--THE UNTAMED!! The entire drama itself--the unique story line/concept, the effects and animation, costumes, the castings and yeah the whole production--JUST WOW! I might seem like exaggerating but I AM SO NOT! I'm just feeling intense from all the actions and twists, nakakaloka yung ending grabe--that ONE freaking revelation I did not even fathom. Like wth?? I will not spoil it here so you could go watch it yourself!
And like I mentioned--my baby Xiao Zhan did this film justice again! He really fits the wuxia-fantasy theme with all the fighting skills and wuxia magic thingy! Like the Soul Rings/Power/Master and even the Soul Beasts concepts.. it was a whole new world of surprises and adventures, oh my.. You really wouldn't be bored especially with the main lead's acting!! He really is my No. 1 favorite actor ever now. I will surely watch all his dramas (continue googling!!).
Tumblr media
And oh.. SEASON 2??? Hell yeah! I cannot wait! Though this is based on an anime film, this drama is waaaay better written and produced. The anime version is so lame, I am telling you. I cannot even bear to watch the much awaited season 2 there because it is so uggghh annoying. I just wish it would be released like not in more than 2 years. Huhu. It would be a pain to wait too long. I hate waiting for a loong time especially when the last episode watched is super cliffhanger (Scarlet Heart, hello?).
But questions left hanging though.. which I'm hoping to be answered in the Season 2: 1) What happened to the Chief of Martial Soul Hall after Tan Hao fought with her? And her daughter too after hearing that it was her mother who killed her father? 2) Since Tang San is a son of a soul beast-turned human, is his blood different somehow from a pure human? What will happen to Du Gu Yan then since they got blood transfusion? 3) How many years later til Tang San and Xiao Wu will meet again? Will the castings change then?? Coz I bet it will be 'years' later since his father told her to toughen up first before they can be together again. 4) Will the Xuan Tian Records really help them in changing the Soul Master vs Soul Beast dilemma? And lastly, the most intriguing one.. 5) if a soul beast turned into human, then is she a pure human already?? Because at that scene in the Martial Soul Hall dungeon, Xiao Wu was able to go into the secret portal that only a soul beast aside from the chief and the creator can go in! Confusing, right?? QUESTIONSSS UGHHH!!!
So yeah, let's watch it together. Because I'mma watch it all over again (perhaps after a month or so when I already have an amnesia, lol).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🐺 THE WOLF
Genre: Wuxia Fantasy Historical
Rating: 7/10
Episodes: 49
Date Watched: 04/01/22 ~
Tumblr media
It was okay, I guess. Not that you know, 'to wait for' thing for me. The beginning was okay but as the drama progresses and the events are turning heavier, I was finding it hard to focus. I even watched (and finished lol) another chinese drama without even watching half of this one. That fact is a big blow really. Xiao Zhan just made me watch this drama anyways, and he wasn't the main lead. I don't like the leads that much, like their chemistry isn't much of a thing for me. No sparks? Not gonna finish watching anymore, I'm done. Lol. Sorry..
Tumblr media
❤ THE LEGENDS
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Action
Rating: 100/10
WUXIA RATING: ⭐⭐⭐
No. of Episodes: 55 (40-41 hrs)
Date watched: 4/4 to 4/7/22 11:35pm
Tumblr media
Another quality drama! Excellent casts, acting and production + cinematography + storyline.. like I said, QUALITY. Of course, I'm choosy when it comes to the dramas I watch nowadays. But the main reason why I watched this is because of my crush XU KAI 💖 Yes, he's my first Chinese actor crush from Yanxi Palace! Super handsome huhu. Anyways, he really fits the role in this drama as the son if the demon lord who eventually is a kind-hearted person like him. Yup, so ironic when we're so accustomed in having an 'evil-natured' character when dubbed as a 'demon lord' or a son of. Like yes, I was expecting that too in the beginning, but (spoiler) it turns out they hate the evil and was only given no choice by being born with a demon in his heart. Unfair, I know (which is kinda sad really) but hey what can we do, that was the main reason this drama even existed. Lol!
Anyways.... i love the heroine too! I was actually watching her other drama but I like her here more. Looks like her characters are all tough mamas! It suits her though. Sooo... yeah... i'm kinda leaning in Xu Kai's drama more so Imma look for them now haha! Bad habits die hard xD So go and watch this drama too for you to fall for him too! I don't mind sharing kasi haha..
Tumblr media
Now the downfall.. the only couple who ended up together was the lead one. 🥲 i really wish they could've given the other couples a chance to be together. and the physician's sudden and unfair death was really uncalled for! like wth was that??? and Qin Qian Xian just turned into a butterfly without any warning after the praying thing?!!! i was enraged! i loved his character and yet they just made him into a butterfly without experiencing any romance 😭 i hate the endings for these lovely couples! boo huhu
P.S. the quotable quotes and the kissing scenes thooooo! Ahhhh ♡

I got tagged by @xiaodaozhang, thank you! ♥  I did this tag game a while back and so I waited a bit before answering because... my answers wouldn’t be much different otherwise. XD
Rules are to answer the questions and tag people you want to get to know better/catch up with!
Five songs you’ve been listening to on repeat recently: I’ve actually been listening to 20 on repeat because that’s the CD I#ve currently got in my car. The last 5 were:
1. Douluo Continent - Xiao Zhan. Youth on horseback 2. Wang Yibo - Rules of my world (that song really has grown on me!) 3. Over the Moon OST - Philippa Soo - Ultraluminary 4. Bruno Mars - Versace on the floor 5. Rocketman OST - Taron Egerton - I’m still standing
Last Movie: Crazy Rich Asians (which i loved, comment to follow)
Currently Watching: still slow going with Legend of Fei; also the current seasons of Let’s Dance, The Masked Singer Germany, and Germany’s Next Top Model (because I love me some stupid trash tv XD)
Currently Reading: I’ve just finished the awesome Wen Qing centric “Searching for tomorrow” by @gingersnapwolves. Still haven’t started a new book, I just don’t have much time somehow and then fanfic is simply easier.

why you should watch douluo continent
the drama adaptation is such a good rendition of “soul land” and stayed true to the plot line and character development. it was fast-paced (perfect for me) but may be confusing for those who don’t know the story. i personally love the donghua, and i think the drama did an adequate job of portraying everything in their own way 😁 (read at your own discretion; this contains spoilers)
things i liked:
initially, i didn’t like the dreamscape bc wtf is it doing there? why is he hearing his mom’s voice in episode 1 (it just kills the entire momentum of the plot); and then after i got to episode 39... fucking ep. 39, i knew the dreamscape needed to be there in order to save tang san’s life; mr. wang who wrote the script, props to you.
the cgi 🥰✨ i had really low expectations bc if there’s shitty cgi like cql... i wouldn’t be able to handle it. but it’s so good ??? please, i know the ape soul beast was small and funny looking (bc they had to spend money on the water dragon lmao), but other than that, it was so good and how each and every character’s powers were able to shine
le outfits + makeup - they’re not super pale 😭😭😭 finally !!! and the outfits are so nice, SO SO NICE, each and every character holy hell
how they changed hu liena’s (aka. qian renxue) role in the drama --- she’s my fav female antagonist; she’s so good here, her character was annoying at first, but she’s so dynamic and independent, and just wants to impress her mom. you see her helping tang san + his squad during the last 5 eps because SHE CARES about her mom despite her strict upbringing 🥺 her and tang san have a ship name called 糖葫芦 (candied hawthorns) and i think that’s so cute hehe
the seven devils 😂 i loved the seven devils in this adaptation almost as much as i loved them in the donghua; each and every character got their own storyline, they’re not boring nor do they draw attention away from the tang san’s main plot, and you see so much development (esp. in ou sike and dai mubai)
headmaster, da shi, and er long trio! 黄金铁三角 iconic and they captured it so well 😭 they chose the actor for the headmaster so freaking well i’m screaming! he loves money so much and his little facial expressions as a third wheel is everything, the comedic relief! and da shi... i see y’all thirsting over calvin chen okay 😌 he’s so much better in the drama tbh & er long is majestic and amazingly powerful and cunning, i love her !!! and props to luo san pao, the best doggo ever!
the seniors! they basically perfected tang san’s relationship with dugu bo... it was antagonistic at first, but then they became besties over poison 😭❤️ i loved dugu bo’s character in here bc he was so funny & didn’t get social cues LMAO // the ape soul master was brief but he honestly made my day with how much he respected the tang family & how he took care of his father back in the day // 七宝琉璃 squad was also 🥰 (less hot than in the donghua lol) but they also somehow made jian yeye the comedic relief? i love how they’re so accepting of ou sike despite him being a support soul master
tang san’s mom - i can only hear her voice, but she made me cry & i love her for that
tang san ❤️❤️❤️ xiao zhan’s voice over just blended in with his character & it was just so wonderful; tang san in the donghua was smart, so fucking smart, cunning, but the kindest at heart; xiao zhan truly portrayed that and my most memorable part was when da shi said “your only flaw is that you let your emotions get the best of you” (this is so important), and you see him later try to control his emotions and not act rashly, especially when confronted with 时年 & 比比东 --- also crying scenes 11/10
bibi dong powerful, POWERFUL WOMAN, props to her voice actress, i got chills when she said, “你根本没有资格知道” // tang hao, wow he’s just like i imagined, but i wish he was a little more emotional in ep. 1 bc the blue silver plant in tang san is essentially his lover’s martial soul
how the concept of family was generated within the shi lan ke academy squad 🥺 it’s such a feel good drama, istg, makes you so happy when you’re having a bad day ✨
things i didn’t like:
xiao wu’s character portrayal (the scriptwriter’s fault, not xuanyi) // i honestly let it slide for the first 10 episodes bc i usually start falling for a character later on, it’s normal; but drama xiao wu didn’t fulfill the 小舞姐 in my heart 😔 i get that many people like her, but it’s not the same! xiao wu in donghua is beautiful, independent, and outspoken, BUT MOST OF ALL HER LOVE FOR TANG SAN IS OBVIOUS, you don’t need to say “一起去” every other line in the drama; i think this could have been remedied if they stayed true to the storyline and let tang san enter the secret dimension alone, bring the mythical herbs back, and have xiao wu prick herself to activate 相思断肠红 (they completely butchered the significance of the flower i’m so angry; fyi: the flower can only belong to you if your heart loves one person --- there’s the most beautiful backstory to the flower but drama douluo said nah). also, drama xiao wu is so clingy and she started exposing herself from the beginning... no momentum build-up whatsoever 😔 it’s 斗罗大陆, not 斗罗大陆: 小舞传 and sometimes it felt like she was being so insistent on following tang san around, i’m just 😓
the whole canghui academy scheme --- it was confusing for 10 eps straight until they got to the end of it, but I guess the drama wanted to add that part in because they wanted to focus less on the competition and more on 变异武魂 (the mutated martial souls) in order to defeat bibi dong
how the beginning was so confusing 😫 i wish they just stuck with child tang san remembering his past life as a disciple in tang clan & then learning 玄天宝录 on his own bc that was such a great part of his character development + understanding of soul masters/their weaknesses; and the fact that he would rely less on his parents
the kiss + confession at ep. 40 // could have done w/o it or even a simple forehead kiss; the confession from tang san was way too quick considering there’s little to no emotional build-up towards that moment (other than bibi dong doing all the work like the queen she is) and there’s no surprise element either? like we’ve been knew she’s a soul beast since ep. 5 🥲 and the kiss was awkward & like i said, sanwu’s love doesn’t need words or actions to confirm... it’s this innate thing that the audience should be able to see (if the scriptwriters focused a little more on BIG plot points that boost the sanwu relationship, then it would have been perfect) ^^ i wish they spent more time on the romantic aspect of the relationship bc even after 30 eps, they seem like siblings when OP said They’re Not.
overall thoughts:
this is purely my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt! the cons imo were minor except for the development of the sanwu relationship; it doesn’t seem like romance to me 😔 but hopefully it’ll get better in the (maybe) second season when they take some time apart to grow? i’m surprised how much they referenced the original story (characters and such), and i am thoroughly impressed with WHERE THEY ENDED IT, and how they rounded all the new/old plot points together in a way that makes sense. i also don’t hate any of the antagonists, which is why this drama is so lighthearted and easy to watch. it’s not emotionally taxing (sans tang san crying bc xz breaks me heart 😭💕), and safe + enjoyable to watch with family! you’re gonna miss it once it ends, and i think that makes a drama successful 😁 also i’m not gonna go into depth about the mysterious ending bc i might spoil it for those who want to watch the donghua LMAO (but if you want to know my theories, shoot me an ask)

This is a chinese manga. Its title is Douluo Dalu 2(Combat continent 2). Although it is season 2, it has almost no connection with season 1. It is kind of martial arts, romance manga. Now the boy on top is the male MC. What do think about the boy below? A boy or a girl? Well, you have to find out by reading....😉😉😉
