I just love the fact that (in some versions) this girl who gets held up as the perfect paragon of feminine purity grabs the gun from her sailor boyfriend and shoots a motherfucker because she's sick of being held captive. White Vault series finale rambling review

Not entirely positive comments under the cut for the White Vault season 5 episode 10

I appreciated Graham's send off, on the emotional level, and having Dragana remonstrate angrily with the documentarian was satisfying too.

That said, I still feel like this left far too many things unanswered. And not in the horror way, I understand that we don't need to know everything about what's in the vault for it to work and have never been one of those clamouring for 'answers' when horror thrives upon the unknown. More in a 'this was set up and yet nothing came of it yet' way, that makes this feel like it's not the end. And maybe it isn't, considering talk of the 'new cycle' and the lack of a body for Casner, but, it IS a finale, and yet didn't feel final.

I completely forgot that the documentarian had anything up with her arm and the way the Doctor was talking I really thought it was a more recent debilitating injury and was expecting a kind of back in time thing to when she was injured. Ironically one of the things I thought of as a reason that she might end up injured was Dragana attacking her which actually happened later in the episode.

Interesting how the Documentarian actually used the truth of 'I didn't know' to defend herself against Dragana's accusations of having sent to their deaths, yet, they never actually got to the revelation that she tricked Graham, which again seemed like a bit of a bombshell hanging over things that would surely, you'd think, undercut any offer she might cede to join the documentarian's side. This again had the feeling of setting it up for a future revelation for Dragana that didn't happen. We see though, there, that the Documentarian has not given up on changing things for the better, and might in fact want to assemble a team to try and stop the cycle continuing, which at least promises some new changes for the future.

I don't feel entirely satisfied as to how to interpret what Graham was doing and what he was intending. Did he decide he needed to be sacrificed? I feel like I would've expected that to feel more like a reveal for him, when he finds out he can't fight this without causing mass death, and trying to destroy the site will only make it worse, yet it's not clear he knew any of that. I'm also STILL not sure he's dead- he got a send off that definitely implies it, yes, but, there's no body, and, Dr Murray is equally unaccounted for.

I wanted to know what became of Dr Murray with Jonas, they set up that it's worrying to them that the statue was broken. Jonas the Forrmynður broke the statue that had been guardian over his wife, who, as it turns out, tragically didn't care for him, that was only 'for show'. He and Dr Murray went off together and were never found? Where is that going! I understanding planting leads for future stories but this feels like it belonged to this one. Additionally appreciated the Hilda vs Mor (sp?) conversation, which seems to me like it's setting up antagonism between the two camps, and of course explained the sad truth that she didn't care for Jonas, but yes, it absolutely just seems like it's raising questions and setting up what there's not time for.

If that actually was the ending of Simon and Remy's story, I don't appreciate that last minute horror touch of putting the only people who seemed like they may have kept their happy ending intact in a situation to be ruined in the end, even though I understand it's a horror classic!

All in all, I didn't dislike the ending, but, it feels unfinished to me! All the way through listening to the White Vault I've had the thought that how I overall feel about the series and whether I'd recommend it does depend partly upon the ending, but somehow having got here it STILL doesn't feel like an ending, I still feel some element of 'final judgement pending' over it!
