Hi, thank you for running this Tumblr! I’d love it if you can signal boost this challenge I’m running on Dreamwidth (but anyone can take part!).

About: Everybody loves a good flick. And if they don’t, they’re definitely missing out. From high octane thrillers to low budget indie films, to superhero extravaganzas, to romcoms, to coming-of-age movies, to Daniel LaRusso being the ‘real’ bully, to world cinema, to Skynet taking over the world - there is something out there for everyone.

Reel Time Fest gives you an opportunity to select a film of your choosing and put a unique spin on it. You can take one element, use all elements, change things up, keep them the same (within reason) - the choice is yours.

This challenge is designed to be low pressure and all about whatever you feel inspired to create. There are no deadlines, no drafts - all you need to do is write, draw and/or create something and post on the day of your choosing.

You can truncate all of that for length, etc, if you need to.

Communal Creators

This September and October, I will be hosting something similar to NaNoWriMo. It is a goal oriented challenge with the intention of community support among the participating creators.

We're welcoming fic, art, podfic, vidding, and crafting.

Sign-ups: Sept 1 - Sept 14 Creation period: Sept 15 - October 15

Jewish creators may add 7 days before or after the official period.

You CAN use projects that existed before this point, but only log the effort that goes into it during the creation period. What are acceptable creations? ANYTHING. I'm going to post various forms of accountability to try and capture as many creative types as I can. So pod / draw / vid / write that project.

Murder Mayhem: Flash Fic Exchange

A quick and dirty flash exchange full of murder(ous) mayhem. Because why not start the new year with some proper chaos? Isn't it time for your fav characters to commit a little murder, as a treat? :smile:

Minimum is a 300 word fic, posted to AO3 and gifted to the recipient, avoiding your recipients listed DNWs and containing one of your recipients requested Fandom + Relationship + Freeform murder tag.

This is a flash exchange. As such, participants are not guaranteed gifts. Works will reveal on the final date even if there are outstanding fics. Late treats are welcome!

A Few Small Events Happening on Dreamwidth

Posted by: kalloway A few small events and whatnot, many inspired by 3weeks4dreamwidth: Multi-Fandom Writing Prompt Comms & Whatnot 2024 Edition - what it says on the tin, additions quite welcome! (List pruned and posted yearly, additions welcome any time.) There's a friending meme happening over on anime_manga, for anyone looking for more friends into anime, manga, and adjacent fandoms. Group-read (as in, a group all reading, sometimes on a theme, sometimes not) community readingtogether is holding a Minithon until the 15th of May. There's no theme, other than reading and chatting for 3W4DW. Multifandom spring-inspired fanwork community spring_renewal just finished its annual round, and all prompts will be retired at the beginning of the next round. Come check out the prompt list, post for amnesty, and let it be spring all year long. There's a Cygames Prompt Fest happening over here, arguably for 3W4DW but it'll remain open indefinitely. Prompts for any game or anime Cygames is involved are welcome. (Granblue Fantasy, Dragalia Lost, Rage of Bahamut, Bravern, Zombie Land Saga, Priconne, World Flipper, Little Noah, etc.) There's also a new Rec-A-Game Meme, for anyone who'd like video game recommendations. It's been more than a decade since the last one, so it's time. It'll also remain open indefinitely. And lastly, small_fandoms is running its annual Small Fandoms Promofest, which runs from today until May 15th. I’m participating in fandomtrees on Dreamwidth again.

This is a low-stakes gift-giving event where people can make fandom wishes and others can then fulfill those wishes. It’s even possible to ask for non-fandom stuff like recipes, picspams of animals, rec lists etc.

I do have a Pillowfort account under the same name, but I rarely use it at the moment (could change if that's where people end up going)

I also have a Discord account, but I use it primarily for chatting with people I already know, so it's best to make contact through another platform first.

I've always thought of Tumblr as a sandbox--fun but ephemeral--rather than a permanent platform, but I appreciate being able to reach a wider audience, meet more people, jot down shitposts, and easily post images, all of which are harder to do on other sites. That said, I'd like to give a huge shout-out to Dreamwidth, which is stable, fandom-friendly, and a recreation of the Livejournal experience, which is where I first got started in fandom. I don't know if Dreamwidth will ever have the reach and width of Livejournal, but I personally love it and encourage people to try it out if they can!

Given that FFN has been running on a shoestring for years if not decades, and is still up, I'd imagine that Tumblr can keep going for a long time. Whether or not it'll still be a fun hangout if it's not regularly maintained is another question entirely.

Fandom Trees - Needy Trees

I can't help with this myself as I don't have enough spoons right now - I already had to cancel on a few fannish commitments recently - but I figured I'd post a link here in case anyone else could.

They currently have 56 trees with no gifts and a further 43 with only one gift. Their goal is for everyone to have at least two gifts by the time of reveals on January 5.

RARE PAIRING FEST 2024!!

Rare Pairing Fest is a now-annual event we host, with the goal of getting more of our favorite rare pair content out into the universe! Like last year, we’re going to use the new format, instead of the the 2020 and prior years format! Used to, we’d pull old prompts from the weekly request posts and put them back up again, but this year we’re bringing new prompts and you all will attach YOUR favorite rare pairs to them!

This year’s event will run from October 13-26, 2024! There will be 28 prompts (two for each day) with assorted themes.

The prompt list is broken down by day, and posted below. You create your work and then post to Twitter, Tumblr, Dreamwidth and/or Pillowfort on the correct day. All participants will get a participation graphic, and anyone who makes a fill for all 14 days will get a special prize! There are no minimums or maximums for this event and ALL content types are accepted (including photos & hand crafts!) Also, all ratings are accepted, but please tag appropriately! And don’t forget the #2024TFRarePairingFest tag! ALSO, if you’re participating in another event (Inktober, or similar) please feel free to double dip your pieces! (No one has enough time in the day to create two or three or more pieces and Mod eerian will never expect you to!)

In fic: Have a character call someone else “sweetheart” as a pet name. No sarcasm, please! It can be an accident or in anger, but they should mean it.

In art: Use the word into a piece of art. You can stylize it as a design element, or it can appear as a pet name in a speech bubble.
