'Sisi' was a terrible empress. Her romanticization needs to STOP.
In more recent decades, Elisabeth has received a growing attention in pop culture: there are several series, films and even a musical paying tribute to her legend. Her beauty is admired, her trials and tribulations are pitied, her struggle to escape the chafing constraints of royal life is celebrated. There's a whiff of feminism surrounding her lately - a strong, intelligent woman, metaphorically, and if we take the film Corsage, even literally flipping off the patriarchy. She's galloping through forests barefoot, she's facing off her tyrannical mother in law, she's fighting for her freedom, for control over her own life. German writer Karen Duve goes as far as to call Elisabeth "an undiscovered feminist icon."
But... was she? One of her ladies in waiting once said that Elisabeth will "live on in legend, not in history". And right she was. You see, Elisabeth has triumphed. When I look around, it seems as if we see her exactly as she would have wanted us to. A tragic heroine, a beautiful apparition, a nymph who somehow got trapped in the mortal realm, to her immense suffering. And for a modern woman, there is much to empathize with in Elisabeth: her sublime sensitivity, her iron self-discipline, her headstrong character, her inborn thirst for freedom. But upon lifting the starry veil of this ethereal fairy-tale queen, one will find the face of a much more complex, flawed and ultimately human woman. Self-obsessed and narcissistic, monstrously selfish and possessive, cruelly indifferent to her empire (with one all-consuming exception), incessantly self-victimizing and deeply, deeply unhappy - overwhelmingly through her own fault.

I know the bonus episodes say Raphael has been missing for months after the end of the game— presumably he went off in search of his father or the real Napoleon or more magical artefacts— but even without a sequel, I’ll always believe Raphael (and Fondue) returned to Paris eventually. Even if never finds Isaac, Raphael still has a family waiting for him in Paris—
And I know it’s a fandom cliche to say a group of characters is a family, and fans don’t need to see them as a family, but I do.
Raphael may not have found his father, but he fell in love with a fellow orphan girl and in turn, helped her reunite with her mother. There’s also her mother’s butler/bodyguard who would throw hands for them. Then there’s Raphael’s ‘nemesis’-turned-‘dear old friend’ and their dad, and the pair might try to apprehend Raphael sometimes but it’s kind of like a game to everyone now. And of course, we can’t forget Raphael’s canine companion, the one who’s been there from the start
They’re not the family Raphael expected, but they’re the one he deserves and they’re waiting for him back home.

Hi!
If you don’t mind me asking, which parent do you think Sisi and each of her siblings looked more like?
I think Helene looked like Max, Sisi, Maria Sophie, Mathilde and Sophie Charlotte looked like Ludovika and Karl Theodor, Ludwig Wilhelm anc Maximilian Emmanuel looked like a mix of their parents.
Hi! No I don't mind at all, I like this type of questions since I usually don't talk much about these kind of things.
Personally I agree on you with Elisabeth and Mathilde, they both looked a lot like their mom:
To me Marie resembled a bit more to her dad, specially the shape of her face (notice how they both had the same parted chin)
I don't think Sophie resembled particularly to one of her parents, tho as an older woman I think she looked a lot like her grandmother Queen Caroline.
With Helene I can't settle, to be honest. Here is a comparison with her parents' portraits. Maybe she also looked more like a grandparent?
As for the guys: I also think they looked like a mix of their parents, tho as he grew older Ludwig Wilhelm resembled more to his dad.
In general you can see the family resemblance (remember Ludovika and Max were cousins lol) in all the kids, tho I wish we had more portraits, or better, actual pictures of their parents in their youth to compare them better.

OTMAA Contemporaries: Marie-Jose and Leopold of Belgium
Leopold (1901) and Marie-Jose (1906) were the eldest and youngest children of Queen Elisabeth (center) and King Albert (tallest man on the right). There was another brother, Charles, born in 1903.
They did not know OTMAA personally, but in her memoirs Marie-Jose wrote that her mother was always upset by the Romanov tragedy, and recalled a time after WWI when Queen Elisabeth confronted King George V about not doing more to save Nicholas II and his family.
Elisabeth also visited Empress Maria Feodorovna in Denmark, and Maria Feodorovna commented she didn't like the new fashion of hats that covered half of someone's face, which Elisabeth was wearing at the time and is wearing in this photo as well!

The Royal Diaries
Growing up, born in the early 90’s, my absolute favorite book were The Royal Diaries series from Scholastic. These books were a spinoff from the Dear America books (which I also read). They followed the middle age/teenage years of historically important royal women. To be honest, my obsession with monarchies and my interest in history (and my history degree) can be firmly traced from this series.…
