You are not who you are supposed to be. There are qualifications for being the girlfriend of a Formula One driver, you’re sure of it, probably even a style guide somewhere if you only bothered to look it up. Perfect hair. Clean makeup. Pretty, but doesn’t try too hard. Willing to give up their whole life to follow one man on mad jaunts across the planet. Wherever your guidebook is, though, you must have lost it long ago, because you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing, and worst of all, it’s starting to show.

You never should have gotten into this position in the first place. That isn’t to say that you hate it, far from it; dating Carlos Sainz is the best thing that ever happened to you, making you the happiest wrong person at the right time to ever exist. In every other universe, he’s probably seeing models or actresses, but here, he has you, and you’re willing to fight off every multiversal version of you just to keep everything as it is right now.

Your butterfly effect was quite stunning, actually. You ended up getting tickets to a Grand Prix through last minute cancellations. They were great, came with paddock passes and all that, and while you were lingering through Ferrari hospitality, Carlos happened to drop by to visit a friend and he noticed you while you were in line to get some water. He’s got the confidence of, well, a world class athlete, an adrenaline junkie, a professional race car driver, and so he introduced himself.

Sometimes, it’s just as easy as that. A father’s cousin’s roommate buys two tickets to a Grand Prix, then a stranger’s roommate’s brother gets sick, and suddenly you’re touching down off a plane overseas and walking through the door of paddock hospitality. You wear red, and you are seen. Just like that.

It took one more weekend before either of you knew that you wanted what you had to last for good. He texted you, followed you on Instagram and blew his cover of seeming cool by accidentally liking a post of yours from six years ago. And, when he saw you again, he knew that he wanted the spark between you to be something more, something like a bonfire.

Coincidence may have supported you thus far, but you don’t trust it not to abandon you. At the end of the day, you are you, you are Y/N L/N, and you are so far removed from Carlos’ world that it stuns you to think that you were even in his orbit so long as to meet him. If there are powers that be somewhere in the universe, they’re either playing a cruel joke or messing around to give you a helping hand. 

Hopefully, it’ll be the latter, but truly who knows at this point. As if it wasn’t surreal enough to introduce Carlos to your friends and family as Carlos Sainz, Formula One driver. As if it doesn’t blow your minds that people have started making Instagram accounts just dedicated to posting photos of you and your boyfriend whenever you’re seen out together.

The problem lies in the insanity of it all. You are not from this sort of life, you weren’t born into a silver spoon dynasty and you barely know how to interact with any of them now. You get along with the other WAGs as best you can; Heidi’s lovely, sure, and you were friendly with Charlotte until she disappeared, but sometimes it feels like it’s just you and your boyfriend against the world. Of any ally to pick, Carlos would be your top choice each and every time, but still. The fact remains that he will go out and race and leave you to your own devices, and you lack the extroverted impulses to social climb with everyone else.

This, then, is the main concern. You can pick out whatever designer clothes you want, goodness knows Carlos has offered to buy you anything already, and you can get your nails and hair done before each and every race, but that doesn’t change the fact that you, at your core, are never going to enjoy the paparazzi circus whenever you have to brave it.

It’s just not your scene, that’s all. You’re on the quieter side, happy to spend time with a few key friends but increasingly nervous in large crowds. Formula One is all large crowds, as you’ve discovered; thousands of fans, hundreds of engineers and team members, plus drivers and girlfriends and best friends. So many eyes, all on you. So many voices all shouting over each other.

You love Carlos, though, and you love him wholeheartedly, so you gather up your courage and go to race weekends when you can. Every time Carlos sees you in the crowd, he smiles so widely his friends tease him for weeks, and he runs to you first after every podium and strong finish. You want to be there for your boyfriend, truly you do, you just wonder if all of this should come easier to you than it does.

Also, you wonder if Carlos wishes the same thing. He has been nothing but perfect to you, so the spirals of guilt currently tangling their way through your insides are purely of your own creation, but what if he truly does think like that? Carlos must see the other WAGs, how they shine and sparkle with attention instead of feeling the urge to run. Wouldn’t he want that? Wouldn’t he get frustrated that you can’t be like the rest?

Thousands of girls in the world, and he picks you. You don’t know if it’s sweet or genuinely frightening. He wanted you out of everyone, yes, but he could replace you in a snap, swapping you out like some useless part on his car. There is nothing about you that cannot be replicated in any other girl. Even Charles did it, in a way, got himself a new girlfriend that’s a dead ringer for Charlotte. Carlos has no reason to keep you except for something he knows and you don’t.

The guessing will drive you mad, maybe, but you’ll lose your sanity long before that just trying to keep up with everything in his fast-paced life. You’ve been to prior F1 races, obviously, it’s how you met Carlos in the first place and it’s also how you kept him, but this upcoming weekend is different, this is Barcelona. Carlos is the center of attention at his home race, and every step he takes, a new storm of people is flooding in to ask him for autographs, selfies, anything to remind them that he’s real and right before their eyes.

Carlos doesn’t ask for a whole lot, and he certainly didn’t force you to come to this race, but you saw the hope in his dark eyes when he brought it up oh-so-casually at a dinner last week. You had assured him that you would go there to cheer him on along with the rest of his home crowd, and Carlos had been delighted for the rest of the evening.

You are happy to go, truly, but it’s taking everything in you to keep your smile up in front of the reporters and crowds and fans, and it’s just the first day. All you’re handling right now is qualifying, not even the actual race. In the back of your mind, a voice whispers that it’s only going to get worse from here on out, but when Carlos looks back at you as you wind through the paddock, you just smile and tell him you’re glad to be there with him. You’re here for him, after all, and Carlos is busy enough with race stuff that he won’t want to hear your complaints.

That’s what you keep repeating to yourself throughout the entirety of that day. Carlos qualifies well and is properly pleased about it, as he should be. The possibility of a podium or perhaps even a win for his home race has been one of his top goals for the season, and he’s as close as he can get to it right now. He earnestly talks about it the whole drive back to your hotel, but once you’re back in the safety and peace of the room, the conversation abruptly switches back to you.

Carlos sheds his jacket at the door, watches you flop down onto the bed with a smile on his face, then asks you pointedly, “And how are you doing, amor?”

You smile back at him, the expression trained to perfection after being tested so many times today. “Great! Glad that everything’s going so well for you. I’ll be cheering for P1 tomorrow.”

In truth, you’re tired more than anything. People kept coming up to you all day, assuming that taking a selfie with Carlos’ girlfriend was at least half as good as getting to see him. They gave you all manner of gifts and things to give to him, extracting promises that you’d tell him dozens of different people wished him well. You knew you’d get a lot more attention when you started dating Carlos, but the lack of personal space and privacy at the races is truly unlike anything you’d experienced before.

Carlos has been dating you long enough to pick up on this, apparently, because he furrows his brow and sits down on the edge of the bed next to you. “I’ll be glad to see you tomorrow, but do you want to tell me what is really on your mind? Don’t try to tell me otherwise. I know you, no?”

You sigh, covering your face with one of your arms. Carlos deflects from this attempt to hide by gently pulling your arm away, pressing a kiss to your forehead to make up for it. “Talk to me, cariño.”

You look sorrowfully at him, but when it becomes clear that Carlos won’t let you go until you confess, you give in. “It’s just a lot, I guess. The people and the cameras and everything.”

Carlos frowns. “I can get them to go away, you know that. Why didn’t you tell me earlier?”

You look away. “I just thought you wouldn’t want to hear it. All of the other girlfriends have no problem with it, just me. I thought you’d want me to be more outgoing, so I tried, I really did, it’s just hard for me, I don’t know why.”

When you dare to risk a glance up at Carlos, you’re surprised to notice that he looks genuinely hurt. “Sweetheart, you didn’t think that I would actually be unhappy about that? I just want you to be happy. Don’t think about me.”

You let out a low breath. “I know, it’s just– I want to be like the rest, really. I don’t want this to be a reason–”

You cut yourself off, distracted by Carlos’ hands still wrapped around yours. Carlos picks up on the obviously dropped subject, though, and looks at you with fresh concern. “You don’t want it to be a reason for what?”

“That you would break up with me,” you whisper.

That’s it, then. That’s the truth. If you can’t live with Carlos’ lifestyle, why wouldn’t he leave you for someone who could? It makes perfect sense to you, but judging by Carlos’ expression, that logic couldn’t be further from his mind.

“No, Y/N,” he says, “That’s not right at all. I don’t want to break up with you, like, ever. Not because of this. I don’t want someone else, I want you. I love you, querida. I love the girl who showed up out of nowhere and made me forget about every other woman in the world. I love the girl who shows up to my home race even though it stresses her out because she wants to be there for me. I love you, Y/N. No one else. Just you.”

And, well, in the face of such passionate declarations, who could stand firm in their own self-pity? Certainly not you. You smile and let him kiss you again and again until you can’t see straight, and after that it is better, it is all better. Hearing it straight from Carlos is better than trying to guess at it. It lets your worries finally sink off into nothingness. It’s just you and him, just what he wants. Just what you want.

After everything you and your family went through, you would’ve never thought, that you could have a seemingly normal life.

Now playing video games at a friends house? After all of that, you would’ve never thought this could happen again.

Not after you accidentally, killed a group of guys that bullied you all your life. Before any investigation could take place, your parents got you out of the situation and moved away.

It was this day, on your sixteens birthday, that you learned that you actually not even a human. And your parents weren’t your parents.

A long time ago, sixteen years to be exactly, a couple ran up to your parents, feeling that they were special, asking them to take care of you. Except a verbal explanation, they left a book with you, that neither of them were able to read.

But you were from the moment you could read on. They never wanted to tell you this. Always had thought that they were just junkies or something like this.

Now after you powers awoken in you, they needed to tell you.

For weeks in this new town, you barricaded yourself in your house. Reading the book your biological parents gave you over and over. Not finding anything of substance.

This was until something strange had happened. It was normal for you to speak in your sleep. Something you always did, when you got stressed out.

Only for this night to become special. This time not even your parents needed to tell you, that you sleep talked, because of the bright white light shining in your room.

A person, a young man just like you stood in front of you. Maybe a couple of years older, but you could’ve been made for all you knew, after seeing him. You two were not similar, but identical.

„My name is Vertak Ulmek Tarnak, im the wisdom of your kin, born from the first of your dynasty, in his image. You called for me in the same language I speak now to you, the one no one else on this world knows. Now im here after you became a awoken. To answer and serve.“ He bowed in front of you, like a servant would do for his master.

It felt strange but somewhat known to you, even if it never happened before.

Of course you had a million questions. And he answered every single one of them, except for what happened with your biological family, because he did not know either. Only that a species called the `Ulwak´, started a war with your kind, which your people obvious were losing.

You also got to know, that after plan C5 in the preventing law, you weren’t the only one, brought to another world, to outlive this tragedy, to at one point come back and conquer your world back.

It gave you enough willpower to get out of your shell and learn to fight. For months you searched for people, who could taught you fighting, only to exceed them in a short amount of time.

At some point in your quest to find yourself and others that were just as you, you actually found a friend.

Which whom you did almost everyday something, doing sports or play video games like you two did at this day.

„Ohhho, and you will go down again!“, you screamed in triumph, after kicking Jeremys ass again in Street Fighter.

You could sense that he was annoyed at your antics, but could also not hide a low smile.

Some days were just this. You two sitting in his home, drinking soda and playing video games the whole day. That you two became friends was more an accident than anything else. Actually, you were kinda an ass to him after meeting him, putting him down, to try to ease his pain with drugs, which not only could destroy his body and mind, but also affect his reflexes.

Especially in public this could be fatal. Like that day, where he completely stoned out of his mind, almost ran in front of a car. You still to this day, when you think about this day, could feel the harsh sog of air, of the car, after you grabbed him, pulled him in and turned you two around, so you were in front of the car and not him.

Not only became you two fast friends after a couple of weeks after the incident, where Jeremy came to you to apologize. But you also became his hype person, his rock so he did not need the drugs anymore.

Whenever you could feel, that he was shortly before getting something again, you made it your mission to stop it at any costs. You even revealed your powers to him.

He was astounded at this, not believing what you could do. Since then, he often just does mostly harmless things to see and feel your powers again.

„I will get you in the next round,“ Jeremy told you trough gritted teeth.

You just smiled at him, „Of course you do little Jeremy, of course your do.“

Anger visible turned up on his face, after you mentioning, that he was smaller than you. Just by a inch or so, but this was enough for you.

The next round was harder, he really tried. It was close, but you still seem to win. This was until, Jeremy grabbed your controller. 

For a moment, you could not process what was happening. When you finally got there, you just had lost.

Jeremy jumped up from his sitting position, „Finally! Im the best, you loser!“, he exclaimed loudly, but you did not reacted at all.

„You cheated.“

„No, I just took advantage of you being easy to bring out of concept.“ He still victoriously stated the fact.

Inside of you began something to boil up. Not really anger, but more annoyance. Before you knew it, you were hovering over Jeremy, your left leg between his, opening him up slightly. His arms pinned down by your hands.

His dark brown eyes mesmerized you, by just looking into them. Even after all this happening so fast, Jeremy still seemed to be in full possession of his own mind. His tongue slowly, seductively tracing his lips, until you couldn’t take it anymore.

Letting go of one of his arms, tracing his face, with your finger, as well as his lips, before holding his head into place. Your lips closing onto him, slowly.

Which Jeremy seemed to have taken as an challenge, Because he swiftly turned you two around, so that you were in the same position he just was in, with just one exception. He was kissing you instantly.

Both your lips, working like a perfect oiled machine. Up until this point, you did not even knew, that you liked him, but now everything made sense. All these strange feelings you had, were jealousy. But now you would keep him, with all your might you had.

If you only had known, that someone was watching the entire interaction between you two.

Can you talk about the mental illness dynasty

Two words. German. Catholic.

My dads mom died on the way to get him from his grandmas house. He was the youngest child out of all of his brothers, by at least ten years. All of his brothers were in the car and they survived but she was either impaled or decapitated by a telephone pole or at least thats how i remember the story. His brothers from worst to least bad:

One of his brothers is the pedophile child molestor that likes little boys. He molested my dad then when they were adults tried to cheat him out of money their dad had given my dad, stole tools from his workshop all the time (my dad was a shop teacher this wasnt like. Hammers and stuff he had EQUIPMENT) to the point my dad had to install a gigantic safe behind a wall to keep stuff in. After my dad died that same uncle tried to take control of my dads estate (which is mine/technically my dads lawyers but my dads lawyer works for me im the one on the will) and stole thousands in cash electronics and guns out of the house. He did a lot more too. Hes a retired nuclear physicist and looks like anthony hopkins hannibal lecter but with a pot belly stained white t shirt and an insane unkempt appearance. he has 5-6 dogs he lets piss and shit everywhere and theyre all obese. His junkie son lives at home and i bet he touched him as a kid cause his son has hit him and lashed out so many times but he still lets him live there. His son is 40-50.

The other uncle was a gay catholic man. He married an asian woman and had my based wasian cousin mark whos like a rich salesman that skiis and hunts and sky dives. Anyways this uncle was an abusive alcoholic piece of shit. A wife beater, then when he came out and got a man he was a husband beater too. His partner was the gentlest nicest man and even as a child i could sense this tension. My uncle was a mean short and stout son of a bitch red in the face like a pig. Mark broke his jaw once.

The other one died when i was 6 and the worst he did was white collar crime. Like a million dollar embezzlement thing. I never met him but i had to call him when he was dying idk why but my dad made me call him lol. My mom said he was actually chill and the nicest out of the brothers.

And my dad was a great guy. Everybody loved him. He was sort of a local celebrity. He was a retired teacher and very active in both his community and in his AA group. But he had a lot of issues. Hoarding was one of them.

We'll need to remain nimble as we gather news throughout the next couple of months to finalize our draft boards.We can cross that bridge when we get there, but here are six players I think are being overrated or underrated whom I'll be watching closely as the offseason progresses.OvervaluedKenneth Walker III, RB, Seattle Seahawks: This one bums me out because I liked Walker last year. He ended the season with just over 1,000 yards rushing and nine TDs, finishing as RB17 in fantasy points per game as a rookie. In spite of that production from Walker, the Seahawks used a second-round draft pick on pass-catching UCLA RB Zach Charbonnet, who has impressed early in the offseason. You don't draft an RB that early to let him ride the pine, so they clearly expect Charbonnet to be a contributor to this offense. They also added a first-round wide receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who will have a role as well. There are a lot of mouths to feed here, so I have Walker just inside of my top 20 at RB.Michael Pittman Jr., WR, Indianapolis Colts: After finishing as WR16 in 2021, Pittman's value took a hit because of inconsistent quarterback play, and that's putting it politely because it was closer to disgusting than inconsistent, but I'm not here to get hung up on semantics. This "overvalued" designation has nothing to do with Pittman as a player; this is 100% about the situation he finds himself in, yet again, with an inaccurate QB under center. This time he gets this year's No. 4 overall draft pick, Anthony Richardson, throwing him the ball -- which is the one part of Richardson's game that needs the most work. Pittman can overcome a lot of things with his size, but he's going to need some serious help to get back to his days as a top-20 WR. Make Your Picks Evan Engram, TE, Jacksonville Jaguars: Engram is another victim of change within the offense. He fit in as a solid pass-catcher for QB Trevor Lawrence last season on his way to a TE7 finish with career highs in receptions (73) and receiving yards (766). There are two downsides here, though. First, he had only four TDs last season, and that was the second-highest total of his career. He just doesn't get into the end zone; he's a chain-mover, not a touchdown-maker. Second, Calvin Ridley steps into this offense with a proclamation of 1,400 receiving yards this season, plus there's Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Travis Etienne Jr. all getting touches here. If Engram isn't getting into the end zone, then he needs volume, and that won't be as prevalent this season with Ridley joining this receiving corps as a true WR1. I have Engram as TE10.UndervaluedSamaje Perine, RB, Denver Broncos: After spending the past 3½ seasons in Cincinnati, Perine finds himself in an interesting position in Denver. He's technically the backup to 23-year-old Javonte Williams, who is returning from an ACL and LCL tear that happened in Week 4 last season. And while I appreciate coach Sean Payton's relentless positivity, there's a good chance that Perine finds himself with a fairly large role early on in this process considering how thin the RB room is. It's a small sample size, but in his 13 career games with at least 15 touches, Perine has 13 TDs and scored at least 16 fantasy points in seven of those games. I currently have Perine at RB32 -- a ranking that is sure to be fluid this summer with the potential for Dalvin Cook rumors or positive news surrounding Williams from training camp.Editor's Picks2 RelatedDiontae Johnson, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers: Let's start with this: I guarantee you that Johnson catches a touchdown pass in 2023. If you've watched or listened to "Fantasy Focus" this offseason, you've heard us talk about the historic 2022 season from Johnson, becoming the first player in NFL history with 85-plus catches and no TDs. That's not happening again. Between the positive TD regression that analyst Mike Clay preaches and Kenny Pickett making strides under center entering his second season, Johnson is primed to outperform what he did last season, and you can get him at a discount! I have him as a top-20(ish) WR, but his current average draft position is in WR3/flex territory.Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers: I know, everyone loves Christian Watson. That's all Mike Clay will talk about, and he's probably right because he usually is, but let's not forget about Doubs. Early this offseason, there have been concerns about Jordan Love's deep ball -- I believe "tight wobblers" was the phrase that Love used when asked about it. This gives rise to the goodness that is Doubs and his slot role. While much of Watson's value is going to be tied to Love's deep ball, Doubs' targets will be safer and more efficient. Yeah, Doubs doesn't have the upside Watson does, but Watson costs you a fifth-rounder right now and Doubs is free. There's value in Doubs as a flex floor play in this new Packers offense. When you add the system into a fully persistent world, the prospects sound tantalizing.Ī lot has changed in the land of Tyria over the past quarter millennia, and ArenaNet’s new focus on its ‘epic world’ story is huge. This way, your friends are likely to be people who have fought battles alongside you, maybe before you ever chatted. The overall effect seems to add a layer of life to the world and gives players a greater picture of the turmoil and dangers around them. Defending the walls of a town which may be attacked during your stay could lead to a temporary partnership with other warriors or local soldiers, for instance. Since then, ArenaNet has developed a new “dynamic event system” that allows players to react to battle scenarios and quest opportunities as they arise in the world around them. The world (or worlds) of GW II have radically shifted in the many years and false starts since the launching of the original Guild Wars.īy using portals through town to specifically instanced ‘hot spots’ and selecting just the right teams to take on quests, gamers could completely customize their experience and maximize their potential for victory. That aspect of game design has received a major tune-up—unlike its predecessor ‘GW II’ will not separate the single-player and online experience. That’s great news for us, as the ability to localize the experience is what kept gamers from being fodder for experience hogs. A recent interview with a developer spokesman confirmed that the company still doesn’t believe in monthly fees but does approve of drop in and out gameplay that still allows gamers to be competitive. To get the big stuff out of the way first, all signs point to ‘yes’ Guild Wars II will still be free. Guild Wars II is still under development, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to talk about. With a very solid (some would say genre-bending—if only for the sake of the absence of a fee) attempt under its belt and a few strong titles since, NCsoft is ready to give it another go and the ‘Guild’ creators have vowed to learn from, and repeat, the past. Unfortunately, this casual approach to gaming tied down the Guild Wars experience by limiting the PvP and collaborative experiences the meat and potatoes of the online gamer’s diet. And the best part was it was free! Unlimited hours of play for the price of the air you breathe fit gamers ever-tightening belts like a um an ‘ever-tightening belt’. Armed with an interesting tale of culture clash and an altogether fun battle system, ArenaNet and NCsoft managed to craft an engaging and immersive story and put the power back in the hands of its players, and not just the insomniac one thousand hour-a-week Halo junkies who refer to the rest of us as noobs. The game was by all means a success critically and commercially, and it made a lasting impression on gamers by ridding its digital realm of tedious long distance traveling, monotonous leveling, and treacherous, power-hungry PvP hitmen. Though it was clear to most gamers this wouldn’t be the silver disk in the heart of the beast known as ‘Warcraft’, Guild Wars shook up the typical MMORPG formula and won over fans with its unconventional approach to online gaming. When Guild Wars came along, it seemed that the publisher might change the rules about MMO’s and a few gamers' minds at the same time. Even with innovative flight-based gameplay, a Dynasty Warriors-Kingdom Under Fire siege battle hybrid, and its very own popular and extremely accessible superhero action MMORPG, NCsoft still looked to play the ∞thel’ to Blizzard’s ‘Lucy’ for quite some time (∛atman’ and ‘Robin’ was too easy). Still, its games have been enjoyable titles that provide solid and diverse action usually with some unique take on the typical fantasy tale.Īs games like Lineage and its sequel and City of Heroes came and went, it seemed that the odds were stacked against NCsoft making a significant dent in the ever-growing hordes of WoW faithful. Always legitimate efforts, the publisher’s history hasn’t always revolutionized the industry or its seemingly favorite genre. A long line of druid-dragon titles has kept this company at the crest of the persistent flood of games out to topple the likes of the big dog in the MMO pound—World of Warcraft and its family of highly anticipated expansions.
