Robot Poll Green Round 1
E-102 Gamma Propaganda:
He is easily one of the most tragic characters of Sonic; he and his brothers born into a world where their existence relied on the entrapment of other living beings- and in which any failure resulted in disassembly and recreation.
After an incident with E-101 β (Beta)- in which Beta was remade against his will into E-101 Mark II by Dr. Robotnik- Gamma realised the cruelty of his creator. This, and the realisation from Amy Rose's friend Birdie that he was powered by a Flicky, spurred him to his ultimate goal.
Destroy (and thus, free,) his brothers and himself.
And, within his short existance, there was only one person who treated him like a person- Amy Rose- and even their relationship was bittersweet. Amy Rose promised they would meet again, shortly before Gamma's last confrontation with Beta Mk. II; where he met his end and freedom.
Also, his theme rocks but like, it's Sonic Adventure, so of course it rules
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyWCpFFovw0
(It also has robotic lyrics that simply repeat; "It's my pleasure. Ready to die." Which perfectly summarises his story; from the second he was able to understand his own wants, he understood the only thing he wished was free himself through death.)
ty for letting me rant about gamma. he's my favouritest character ever

longer post than normal but i was thinking about this on my commute a lot recently and i want to talk about Several bots so here we go. eggman has a pattern of controlling and punishing his robots by completely stripping them of their autonomy (often, bodily autonomy, resulting in some honestly horrific situations for the robot - all of the below are shown to be sentient, and these modifications to their selves cause them clear distress)
e-101, 103, 104, 105 and 107 (beta, delta, epsilon, zeta, and theta)
all of gamma's brothers were punished for losing to him. beta was the first, and it's immediately clear what good he is to the doctor the minute gamma beats him. spare parts. it's pretty evident beta is sentient and has some understanding that losing to gamma = something bad would happen and has already maybe been threatened at this point, and that's why he got all up in eggman's face wanting to come with anyway.
gamma is shown with delta, epsilon, and zeta to receive a new mission. when gamma succeeds, the other three are called "worthless junk" and teleported away...with delta specifically turning to look at gamma, as if pleading with his brother to help him. the three are "remodeled", in a process probably similar to beta, and delta and epsilon are ejected from the ship anyways. they are not even good enough for eggman with his upgrades.
zeta had a slightly different fate...
completely stripped of any semblance of his original body, zeta was reformatted into a stationary unit. this arguably traumatized him, as he's shown crying in a sonic channel comic.
according to the translation (x), zeta is who comes up when you search "disappointment" in eggman's database...for one failure.
beta would not be present later with his other brothers because eggman was making good on his spare parts comment and immediately started to "upgrade" him into beta mk. ii, which gamma accidentally stumbles upon, stunning him.
beta's discarded parts are strewn carelessly on the floor. he's being disassembled and put back together as something else. this is where gamma truly sees the price of failing eggman: he will take you apart and do whatever he pleases to you for one mistake. seeing his brothers thrown aside so callously is a major part of what made gamma turn, and all he could do was destroy them to save them.
theta, not present aboard the egg carrier during this time, is shown to have a similar style "body" to zeta: a stationary unit.
it's unknown how he ended up like this, but with how eggman treated his brothers, it's probably safe to assume theta made some kind of error and ended up stuck, forced to sit in an abandoned base until sonic, silver and whisper "freed" him.
the e-100s are one of the most egregious examples of how eggman treats his elite robots. they're so advanced they're sentient, but eggman gets so impatient and bored he scraps them to move onto the next thing. if he knows his creations are alive, he does not care in the slightest. they are spare parts and junk unless they are serving him exactly as he asks.
e-102 gamma (chaos gamma)
i wasn't sure whether to include this, but it rubs me the wrong way, so i'm just going to mention it...chaos gamma was made from the salvaged parts of gamma, who had died on the egg carrier. there's something disturbing about using the remains of gamma to make a more violent, bitter and vengeful version of him. the parts of the kind-hearted robot gamma was have been reshaped and turned into something else- just like his brothers before him.
e-123 omega
obviously locking someone in a room is going to reduce their autonomy to nothing and this is a huge motivator on why omega hates eggman. imagine being created as a walking arsenal and then put into storage, on guard duty, with no say in the matter...but what really bothers me with eggman's treatment of omega is when he was holding him hostage at the end of the metal virus arc. at this point omega's whole body was gone, and eggman hastily threw together a new one for him (small tangent: that hastily constructed body is not what omega is used to, and it probably felt awful for his head to be attached to that). omega has no control over this body whatsoever once eggman plugs his head in. and this is played for laughs, bc omega is the comedic relief, but he is clearly still unhappy about it
said "special project" being a freakishly cruel giant mech using a yet again immobile omega as the core.
omega is conscious during all this too, trying to fight off eggman's control over him
and of course eggman's rush job makes his body fall apart again after sonic gets him out of the giant mech and he shoots it full of 100000 holes (justified), leaving him incomplete yet again until he's finally fixed for good by tails and belle.
mecha sonic mk. ii
i'm including him as a more indirect example with my post here where i already discussed mecha's body related trauma. basically being abandoned by eggman -> the breakdown of his body, which he finds distressing
metal sonic
metal is the most infamous case here and i don't think i really need to explain anything much. he rebelled against eggman because of his own ambitions, took over as neo metal, and had his free will taken away as a result. metal is programmed to be totally and utterly obedient to eggman and cannot make any choices for himself. i would argue that being "downgraded" into his base form from his neo form is a body modification he did not want going off his voice lines of "i transformed my own body with my own hands" and "see me as i am"; he changed his body into something he wanted and was forced to abandon it to once again become eggman's pawn. eggman's stripping of metal's autonomy runs so deep in his coding that even when metal gets to return to his neo form, everything he does is in service to eggman- a polar opposite of what he intended his neo form for.
heavy king
heavy king lacks the body horror elements but still has his autonomy stripped in nearly the exact way and scenario metal sonic did.
heavy king, in order to fulfill his own ambitions, has usurped eggman. it's a pretty blatant comparison to neo metal sonic, and this part in the comic makes it pretty obvious
what really fucks me up with heavy king is this panel.
like he's right. eggman programs his robots like this and then goes all surprised pikachu face when they Do Evil. you made him like this, doctor. and his answer is to take away heavy king's free will, just like metal sonic. notice the sweat beads drawn on there...he's obviously not comfortable with this, but he has no choice if he wants to avoid punishment. he knows this. is that not terrifying
in conclusion
eggman is fucked in the head and i need to scramble him on high heat
#txt#sth#im so normal about robots guys i prommy <- said with an unsettling smile#cat's sonicposting

Okay so
For various reasons, Sonic Adventure (SA1) is among my dead favorite games. The two relevant to this rant are the characters and the gorgeous soundtrack (in fact, I might go on a tangent about individual songs at the end of this).
My favorite character in the game is E-102 “Gamma” (btw if you derail this post about Omega, you die), a robot built by Eggman, who runs on animal power, as Eggman’s robots usually do. However, Gamma contains a very special animal - it’s a surprise tool the will help us later. Five minutes into being born (and after training, ofc), he is forced to shoot his brother, E-101 “Beta”. Following this, he board’s Eggman’s ship (the Egg Carrier) and is tasked with catching the tailed frog. Upon collecting the frog, he is transported to the past, where he experiences childlike wonder at the chao. Back on the Egg Carrier, the rest of his siblings are cast out because of their failure to get the frog. After that, Gamma is sent to execute a prisoner. On the way, he makes a wrong turn and ends up in the machining room, where he experiences eldritch horror at the sight of his brother being disassembled and reassembled. In the prison, he finds Amy Rose, who has a blue bird flying around with her looking for its parents. She convinces him not to kill her a la Mindy Animaniacs, and protects Sonic out on the deck of the ship, further confusing Gamma. He leaves the crashing ship, now convinced to “rescue” his disowned brothers. After successfully disposing of them, he is ambushed on the Egg Carrier by Beta Mk II, who feigns death in order to shoot Gamma in the back, and they both die as a result. Lo and behold, Gamma and Beta contained the parents of the bird. Reunited, they fly off into the sunset.
TLDR: Gamma is Eggman robot who experiences eldritch horror and compassion and forsakes his master as a result. He “rescues” his siblings before dying himself, and the animal inside him reunites with its family.
Now, a little more background before we get to the main point. SEGA Sound Team popped off for this game. Each character has a theme song that plays during their respective recaps and end credits (each one has an entire storyline with slight variations on who does what (it’s all happening at once)). Side note: I’m like 70% sure SA1 is the origin of Knuckles jazz. It should also be noted that I have a youtube playlist of songs on queue for downloading, and when I run out of ideas I scroll through the recommended additions section.
E-102’s theme is in my top three favorite songs from SA1. You’ll never guess what it’s called! Theme of E-102γ. And that’s my first talking point. I was reading the comments on one of the music videos, and one of them made a connection that his theme doesn’t get a proper name because he’s just another cog in the machine. Even Big the Cat has a greater role in the main story than him. And yet, doomed by the narrative as he is, he gets his own story. As another comment pointed out, each story has its own (literary) theme: Sonic is Adventure, Tails is Independence, Knuckles is Recollection (I’m kinda iffy on that one), Amy is Protection, Big is Friendship, and Gamma? Gamma is heart and soul. Compassion. Morality, something that shouldn’t be possible, and definitely isn’t comprehensible for a robot, especially one of Eggman’s creation.
As a side tangent here, I’ve been putting rescued in quotes when it comes to Gamma and his brothers, but I realized something between the time I started writing this and now. The animals that drop from the E-series robots are birds. They’re all his brothers, inside and out. I had always assumed that Gamma had meant rescue only in the liberation sense. I never realized that he meant it both ways. I just… I’m need a moment.
As a side side tangent, I think this is one of the biggest differences between E-100 ZERO and the rest. To my knowledge, he didn’t have any animals, much less another bird, and that was what led him to the brutish oafishness that we see displayed by him.
Back to the main points, I think that all of this is reflected in the song. It starts out with all of the synth, vague vocals, electro, etc. that would be expected from the theme of a robot, and then you’ve got… PIANO. Oh my god the piano. Piano Man has its harmonica, and this song has its piano. In the midst of the circuits, the wires, the computers, there’s life, a heartbeat, a soul. And with the soul comes that twinge of sadness. Sure he freed the animals, but to do so, he had to kill his brothers with his own two (?)(does the gun count?) hands. Due to this and the cumulation of everything else, hearing the song (or the variation of it) during his final cutscene hits and hits hard.
youtube
THE REPRISE OF THE MAIN THEME PIANO AS HE DIES IN OBSCURITY. THE OTHER BIRDS ARE LIKELY THE ONLY ONES THAT END UP KNOWING ABOUT HIS DEATH
It’s okay I’m okay I’m so normal about this
Now that the main rant is over, it’s time for me to hoot about the other songs
Be Cool, Be Wild, Be Groovy …for Ice Cap
I get that it’s a snowboarding section, but still. THEY BOTHERED TO USE GUITAR IN A SNOW LEVEL. NAME ONE OTHER INSTANCE OF THAT THAT ISN’T LITTLE BIG PLANET’S THE WILDERNESS’S SITAR.
Limestone Cave …for Ice Cap
Ambience plain and simple. Good for falling asleep to
Snowy Mountain …for Ice Cap
Another ambience piece, this time with another guitar (no this doesn’t count for the challenge I posed above). Love the mix of electric and acoustic
Welcome To Station Square
“The train headed for the Mystic Ruins will be departing soon.” Came for the guitar, stayed for the trumpet.
Red Barrage Area …for Hot Shelter
SAX (shout outs to the rest of Hot Shelter’s music btw)
Militant Missionary … Boss Egg Walker & Egg Viper
Hopelessness, despair, DRAMA. Things may not have gone to plan, but Eggman is surely still the one in control.
And finally, shoutouts to Bad Taste Aquarium, Pleasure Castle, and Dilapidated Way for going full throttle right out the gate.

Personal Headcanon:
After the events of Sonic Adventure 1, Eggman was salvaging what was left of the Egg Carrier after it had crashed into the ocean, where he would find what remains of E-102 Gamma and E-101 Beta. With a sigh, he extracted their memories to see if he can get any extra dirt on Sonic, who he presumes did the deed in taking them both down. He takes the two machines back to his new base, wherever that may be, to survey the information.
He'd start with Beta, considering how much effort went into its Mk. II upgrades. When he got to Beta's final fight, Eggman was surprised to see that Sonic isn't the one fighting it, but Gamma. He would then switch over to Gamma's memories right after to try and get an explanation, and certainly is not prepared for what he sees.
He learns the story of a forgotten robot who became self-aware. Who gave up everything to save creatures he never met, and one, he could never meet. A machine that's... far more human than his metal shell would imply. He sees Gamma whisked away by Tikal, who he learned about from coverage of the Perfect Chaos disaster. He sees Gamma's final moments, as images he'd never seen flashes through his memory banks before it all goes silent.
He'd stare at his monitor for a long time, and then realize that... his face is wet. Tears? He couldn't recall crying.
It would be then that he builds the final E-series robot; E-123 Omega. He ended up designing Omega so similarly to Gamma as one final, silent tribute to this robot that went far beyond its own programming to the point of actually being considered truly alive. It's also when he first abandons the animal power supply blueprint that he designed so many previous models of badnik around and tries something else, like a Chaos Drive, a design choice he would later implement in everything going forward, including future models of Metal Sonic.
But Gamma... Gamma would remain his dark secret. He would preserve these files, and hide them from the world, create a hidden room deep within one of his abandoned bases. Give Gamma the security his final resting place deserves. But, most importantly, hide him.
Hide the first and only time he's ever questioned himself and his goals.

Name: E-102 Gamma Series: Sonic the Hedgehog Description: E-102 “ γ “ was a robot created by Dr. Eggman to assist him aboard his flying fortress, the Egg Carrier. He was one of the E-100 series robots created at the time along with his younger brothers E-103 Delta, E-104 Epsilon, E-105 Zeta and his older brother, E-101 Beta. These robots were powered by animals inside the robots, with Gamma and Beta in particular powered by two of the same family of Flickies, a species of bird. Initially loyal to Eggman and his mission, Gamma started to realise the differences of good and evil after meeting Amy Rose, who influenced Gamma by showing him a Flicky (who was the child of the Flickies powering Gamma and Beta). Gamma started to doubt Eggman, deleting him from his master registry and going on to sabotage his mission. He destroyed his brothers Delta, Epsilon and Zeta to free the animals trapped within them, then confronted his now-upgraded older brother Beta MK II in a final showdown which would end up destroying the both of them, thus releasing both the Flickies inside them and reuniting the family at last.

While going through the Museum of Memories on Memory Mountain, I saw multiple memories of my own through different labels above the portals.
“Tearjerkers” - Sad moments such as young Simba crying when he saw the body of his dead father, Mufasa in the Pride Lands, the destruction of E-102 Gamma where he released a bird out of himself after fighting E-101 Beta MK II, and Sora’s disappearance after using the Power of Waking to bring back Kairi in Kingdom Hearts III.
“Birth of Dark Mills” - Where the darkness of the Time Hero’s heart came out in a fight with Ladybug and Cat Noir at my Treehouse in the Miraculous: Rise of the Dark Moth timeline. At times, I regret having to allow myself to be akumatized by Gabriel Agreste aka Hawk Moth, allowing Dark Mills to control me, but he was a part of me.
“Loss of Android 21″ - A memory while being a linked soul in the Dragon Ball FighterZ timeline with the Good Android 21. I watched the Good Android 21 sacrifice herself by throwing herself into her hunger persona, the Evil Android 21 into the Spirit Bomb on the Planet of the Kais. “21...” I said putting my hand on the glass mirror showing the memory in sorrow for Android 21′s sacrifice.
“She must’ve meant a lot to you.” NiGHTS said showing sympathy. “Yeah...”
Zizzi was feeling incredibly tired today as she had been hit with a sudden feeling of being sleepy but not wanting to sleep. She was completely out of it as she was curled up on her couch. She would pressed her ear piece to let Trunks know. "Hey... I'm just not...zzz." she had fallen asleep for a second before she snapped awake. "UP to come in for missions." She quickly said to him.
"Huh?" Xeno Trunks spoke as he heard Zizzi sleeping in his earpiece communicating with him.
"Are you sure you're okay, Zizzi? You didn't get hit by a Sleep attack, did you?" Trunks asked. "We said for you to get some rest."
