James and Matthew in Edom | requested by Anonymous
"Then you must choose, I suppose," said Belial. "Your life, your parabatai's life - or the world." "The world," said Matthew, and James nodded in agreement. "We are Nephilim," he said. "Something you would not understand. Every day we risk ourselves in service of the lives of others; it is our duty to choose the world." "Duty," said Belial dismissively. "I think you will find little satisfaction in duty when the screams of your parabatai are echoing in your ears."
(I meant to post this together with the fic I'm writing; and also to finish the fic during this holiday. But I barely had 10 minutes to myself these past few days and couldn't write anything at all 😭 So hopefully this can serve as reassurance until then. Have a sneak peek under the cut, the fic starts right after the quote from Belial above!)
It happened before James had even had time to think. A sickening crash echoed from the wall behind him at the same moment Belial disappeared from his view.
He heard Matthew cough and gasp and whipped around. Belial was holding him against the wall by the neck and even though Matthew was trying to claw and pull at the hand, he had no strength left to move it. He barely had had strength to stand.
James started to run, but was abruptly pulled back. Belial's demon companion had taken hold of his arms with two insect-like claws, its gaping maw dangerously close to James' neck.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, mate. I can rip your arms out, I can, and the boss wouldn't like to have a body with no arms."
"I really wouldn't," Belial chimed in. "But I am sure we can come to an agreement without needing all that."

The Illegitimacy of Edom: A Biblical and Apocryphal Analysis of Esau’s Rejection of the Covenant
Abstract: This article explores the biblical and apocryphal evidence indicating that the descendants of Esau—commonly referred to as Edom or Edomites—were never meant to exist as a separate nation contrary to the covenantal lineage of Israel. It argues that Esau’s rejection of divine instruction, primarily by marrying outside his kin and covenant, gave rise to a lineage characterized by opposition to God and His chosen people. If Esau had kept the commandments and married within the covenant, the evils attributed to Edom’s history would not have come to pass.
Introduction
The history of Esau, later called Edom (Genesis 36:1), serves as a spiritual warning in Scripture. Despite being the firstborn of Isaac, Esau was disqualified from covenantal inheritance due to his profane choices (Hebrews 12:16). The central disobedience lies in his rejection of God's laws, including intermarriage with nations not joined to the covenant, which formed the basis for the existence of Edom as a nation apart from Israel.
Esau’s Rebellion Through Marriage
Genesis 26:34–35 tells us:
“And Esau was forty years old when he took to wife Judith the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite: which were a grief of mind unto Isaac and to Rebekah.”
This act was not merely a personal decision; it was a direct violation of Abrahamic precedent. Abraham commanded that his son Isaac not marry the daughters of Canaan (Genesis 24:3). Esau, however, disregarded this, aligning himself with the heathen.
The Apocrypha echoes this principle of separation and covenant fidelity:
“Let us make a covenant with the heathen that are round about us: for since we departed from them we have had much sorrow.” (1 Maccabees 1:11) This passage, though referring to Israelites compromising with heathens, underscores the pattern of destruction that follows mixing with foreign nations.
The Children of Sin: Illegitimate Offspring
The Book of Jubilees further condemns such unions:
“Do not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan… for the seed of Canaan will be rooted out of the land.” (Jubilees 22:20–22)
Esau’s offspring were not just ethnically separate but spiritually illegitimate—offspring born outside the covenant structure. His descendants became a perpetual enemy to Israel, a manifestation of rebellion.
Edom’s History: A Legacy of Violence and Betrayal
Obadiah 1:10 states:
“For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.”
Psalm 137:7 and Ezekiel 35 likewise detail Edom’s betrayal and bloodshed. These acts are not anomalies but the fruit of a nation born outside of covenant. If Esau had remained faithful, these atrocities—participation in Israel’s destruction, bloodthirsty conquest, and spiritual rebellion—would never have occurred.
A People Never Meant to Be
The ultimate judgment is clear:
“As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.” (Romans 9:13, cf. Malachi 1:2–3)
The Apocryphal 2 Esdras 6:9 affirms the role reversal:
“For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth.”
This signals Edom’s temporal dominion is destined for destruction. Their existence is tied to the disobedience of Esau; had he kept the commandments, this line would not have stood in opposition to the Most High.
Conclusion
Esau’s decision to intermarry with heathens and despise his birthright led to the rise of Edom—a nation characterized by rebellion, violence, and godlessness. Scriptural and apocryphal testimony suggests this lineage was never intended to persist. Their continued existence serves as a living judgment against disobedience to God's commandments and the importance of remaining within the covenant structure set forth from Abraham through Jacob.

🔥 BOOK I: THE SMELTER GOD
“From the Fire, the Word. From the Word, the Worlds.”
Chapter 2: The Furnace of Origins
He did not create from nothing. He formed from what already was— the ash of older gods, the blood of Tiamat, the breath of El, and the tears of Nammu.
In the dark forge, He beat the chaos into bricks. He was not the creator of being, but the organizer of material, the first demiurgic architect.
Thus was the first illusion born: That creation is control.

“This is what Jehovah has said, ‘“On account of three revolts of Gaʹza, and on account of four, I shall not turn it back, on account of their taking into exile a complete body of exiles to hand over to Eʹdom. And I will send a fire onto the wall of Gaʹza, and it must devour her dwelling towers. And I will cut off [the] inhabitant from Ashʹdod, and the holder of [the] scepter from Ashʹke·lon; and I will turn my hand back upon Ekʹron, and the remaining ones of the Phi·lisʹtines must perish,” the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said.’"

BANNER.
Psalm 60:4,6.
“ You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah. God has spoken in His holiness….”
It is 400 BC. Israel is fighting nations in the north when she is suddenly surprised by an attack from Edom in the south. This is a dark moment: David is caught off guard and Israel is suffering the devastating wave of losses. In their shock, embarrassment and fear, they feel rejected by God, until…
“God has spoken.”(verse 6). What God said was like a banner, a rallying point, a place to gather (verse 4).
In our devastation, defeats, fears, we must ask, “What does God have to say?” It changes everything.
This week, what is your banner?
Pastor Robin.

The Destruction of Edom (2 Chronicles 20:1-4)
1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom: We have heard tidings from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
2 Behold, I have made thee small among the nations: thou art greatly despised.
3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Though thou mount on high as the eagle, and though thy nest be set among the stars, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.
5 If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not steal till they had enough? if grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?
6 How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden treasures sought up!
7 All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee on thy way, even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread lay a snare under thee: there is none understanding in him.
8 Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?
9 And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one may be cut off from the mount of Esau by slaughter.
10 For the violence done to thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.
12 But look not thou on the day of thy brother in the day of his disaster, and rejoice not over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither speak proudly in the day of distress.
13 Enter not into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, look not thou on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither lay ye hands on their substance in the day of their calamity.
14 And stand thou not in the crossway, to cut off those of his that escape; and deliver not up those of his that remain in the day of distress.
The Deliverance of Israel
15 For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee; thy dealing shall return upon thine own head.
16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the nations drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and swallow down, and shall be as though they had not been.
17 But in mount Zion there shall be those that escape, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall burn among them, and devour them: and there shall not be any remaining to the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.
19 And they of the South shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the lowland the Philistines and they shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel, which are among the Canaanites, shall possess even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.
21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD'S. — Obadiah 1 | English Revised Version (ERVB) The English Revised Version of the Holy Bible, which is in the public domain. #DailyDevotion The False Church Does Not Have The Upper Hand
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion The False Church Does Not Have The Upper Hand Ob. 7 All your allies will drive you to the border. Your friends will treacherously get the best of you. Those eating your food will set traps for you, and you won’t know about it.” 8 The LORD asks, “On that day won’t I destroy the wise men in Edom, and take away understanding from Esau’s mountain? 9 Your heroes, O Teman, will despair so that everyone coming from the mount of Esau will be killed off. This section of Obadiah reminds me of this passage from Revelation 17: 12“The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet started to rule but for an hour get authority as kings with the beast. 13They have one purpose and give their power and authority to the beast. 14They will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb, and the called, chosen, and faithful people with Him, will conquer them because He is the Lord of lords and the King of kings. 15“The waters you saw where the prostitute was sitting,” he told me, "are peoples, crowds, nations, and languages. 16The ten horns you saw and the beast will hate the prostitute, lay her waste, strip her, devour her flesh, and burn her with fire, 17God has put it into their hearts to do what He has decided, to carry out one purpose, and to give their kingdom to the beast until what God has said is carried out. Edom would be the great prostitute. The kings would be her allies. Her allies are only such until she serves no purpose for her any longer. Then they will turn against her. So this happened with Edom. Her allies drove her to the border. They, in fact, were driven into southern Judah. Those nations they trusted turned against her. Like the prostitute in Revelation, this is God's doing. For they persecuted Judah and Israel in their times of need just as the prostitute persecutes God's people today. She uses the kings of the earth to persecute God's people today, which is why it always amazes me when Church people look to the government and those in government for help and protection. If they do help, we need to watch out for treachery is afoot! For now, earthly governments serve the false church represented by Babylon. An interesting thing I found while studying Obadiah is that most scholars believe he himself was an Edomite. On top of that, it is believed, Job and his friends were Edomites. You know Job is a piece of wisdom literature. Apparently, Edom was known for having wise men. They apparently depended upon the wise men of their nation. Now, because of Edom's sin, the LORD is going to destroy their wise men and take away understanding from Esau's mountain. Many in the world hold themselves to be wisemen. They are counselors to kings, presidents, and prime ministers. There is coming a day when the LORD Jesus will remove or confound these wise men. The rulers of the world will not find wise counsel. They will come to fight against the Lamb and His Church. They will not win. Jesus with His holy angels will wipe out those who have come against us. The false church will be no more. Those who worship power and wealth will be no more. They will all be cast out into utter darkness, into the Lake of Fire to be punished with the fallen angels who also rebelled against their God, their maker, Jesus Christ. We will be gathered and comforted in the Kingdom of the Lamb and rejoice forever. Heavenly Father, help the people of Your Church not to despair when it seems the world is winning against them. Let them see the slippery stone they are standing on and help them to remember Your Son Jesus Christ rules over all and will soon overtake them in all their sin while we are gathered into Your heavenly kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article
