Jack Baer at Yahoo! Sports:
The world of sports media is about to get a massive new player. Disney, Fox Corp. and Warner Bros. Discovery are planning to a launch a new streaming joint venture that will make all of their sports programming — including ESPN, Fox Sports and TNT — available under a single service, they announced Tuesday. The streaming service will launch in the fall and will be equally co-owned by each of the three companies. Subscribers will be offered a list of networks, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV and ESPN+. The service, not unlike a sports-only cable subscription, will also include hundreds of hours of NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and college sports content. The price of the mega-service remains to be announced. It will also be available to ESPN+, Hulu and Max subscribers as part of a bundle.
[...]
ESPN-Fox-TNT sports streaming service could turn cable television upside down
The ramifications of this initiative in both the sports and television world are enormous. Much of the modern cable television industry owes its existence to the allure of live sports, with those networks able to demand massive carriage fees in return. This new service will give the cable subscribers who pay only for sports a chance to cut the cord and lose very little, though we'll see how much this whole thing ends up costing. Between Disney, Fox and Warner Bros., the companies own at least some of the national media rights for all of the major sports leagues. MLB is mostly tied to Fox and ESPN. NBA games are nationally broadcasted on TNT and ABC/ESPN. The NHL has the same combination. Fox has a share of Big Ten football games. ESPN has the SEC. Fox and ESPN both have a share of the NFL.
CBS, which has NFL Sunday afternoon games and March Madness, and NBC, which has the NFL's "Sunday Night Football" and the Olympics, are the major networks left out here, but cable cutters could still access their biggest games through over-the-air antennas.
Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery team up to launch a new DTC sports streaming service this fall. This package will have truckloads of college and pro sports content.

Bears Scorch Cardinal 92-70
Cal Ties School Record with 16 3-Pointers In Lopsided Victory Over Stanford
BERKELEY – The California men's basketball team's cathartic response to its difficult start to the season manifested itself in a blitzkrieg of 3-pointers against its rival from across the Bay. The Golden Bears tied a school record with 16 three pointers at a blistering 73 percent, and Cal routed Stanford 92-70 at a spirited Haas Pavilion. Graduate student DeJuan Clayton continued to show the difference he can make in Cal's lineup by pouring in 26 points on 6-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc in just his third game with the Bears, and Cal dished out 21 assists as a team – its most since registering 22 against Washington in 2019. The Bears (2-3 Pac-12) have now won three of four games, some against the conference’s better half. "We're not the winless team you guys saw early in the season," said sophomore Sam Alajiki, who scored a career-high 19 points. "We didn't have DeJuan. We didn't get to play together a lot. We are a completely different team now. Everyone can feel it." Senior Kuany Kuany also had a career-high with 18 points while also adding five rebounds and three assists while point guard Joel Brown recorded a season-best seven assists. The Bears reached the 90-point mark in a game in regulation for the first time since 2015. "I'm really happy for our players and our fans," Cal head coach Mark Fox said. "It was a complete team effort. A ton of guys played well." Clayton, a three-time all-conference selection at Coppin State before transferring to Hartford and finally Cal, missed the first 13 games of the season with an injury. He also had six assists against the Cardinal.
"It's amazing the difference DeJuan makes on our team," Fox said. "He is giving us some momentum. We needed him desperately. He's not going to play like this every night, but he's a calming force. He makes everybody better. He deserved a night like tonight after what he's been through." The Bears shot 59 percent from the floor, their highest field goal percentage in a game since they converted 60 percent of their floor shots against Washington in 2015. Cal will look to even its Pac-12 record Wednesday when it plays at Washington State at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. "I think we are coming together at the right time," Clayton said. "We are learning how to play with each other and are just going to keep going from here. It feels great to get back on track."

In 2014 I discovered The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on ESPNU. I was living in my father’s unfinished basement, playing catch with my friends, and pissing into the wind. I was 28 years old. Now, my sister and her husband can’t even hear the word “wow” without performing “a cacophony of Owen Wilsons,” and they don’t get the show. I just happened to be staying with them in Las Vegas when that…
