During this year's Fringe festival, I attended an immersive and interactive event that allowed its adult participants to engage in "kindergarten" activities. My chosen activities for the day were drawing and using Play-Doh. For the former, I doodled an homage to how I used to draw when I was very young, with the two eras of my life side by side. For the latter, I just had to bring my good boy Softboy to life.
Remember: playing and creating things that make you happy are important at any age.

Edinburgh Fringe Interview: Charlotte Anne-Tilley - Almost Adult
A boisterous coming-of-age comedy and brave confrontation of workplace sexual harassment, Almost Adult is inspired by Charlotte Anne-Tilley’s own experience as a young woman taking on The Big City, following an appalling experience at a large immersive entertainment company in London. This big-hearted and honest play gives voice to the thousands of women who have been silenced or challenged when…

I'm at the Edinburgh Festival / Fringe (I'm local) and just came out of a moving, quite depressing show using King Lear's dialogue to talk about homelessness.
I immediately hear someone touting their show as a 'queer pirate romcom' and do I want a flyer.
Yes yes I do
But they'd better not breakup at the end I swear I will go insane

It’s The Way I Tell ‘Em (34)
The best jokes from #EdinburghFring2023 allegedly
The best jokes from the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe, allegedly. I started dating a zookeeper – but it turned out he was a cheetah. (Lorna Rose Treen); The most British thing I’ve ever heard? A lady who said, “Well I’m sorry, but I don’t apologise”. (Liz Guterbock); Last year I had a great joke about inflation. But it’s hardly worth it now. (Amos Gill); When women gossip we get called bitchy; but…

My FAVOURITE show of the Fringe 2023! Broadway Diva @EdFringe @AssemblyFest #FringeEdin #WhatsonEdi #Edinburgh #Theatre #FringeReview #Music #OliviaRuggiero
Broadway Diva Review by Kelly Lacey I recently had the pleasure of attending the Broadway Diva performance with my dear friend Joanne from Portobello Book Blog. As soon as the show started, I was instantly drawn into the magic of Broadway as Olivia Ruggiero began to sing. The diverse range of songs included both familiar favourites and hidden gems that were completely new to me. What made the…

Laughing through the pain: Edinburgh comics relive true-life traumas What’s the funniest thing on the festival fringe? No, not politics, but painful introspectionNominations for the prestigious Edinburgh comedy award, to be announced on Wednesday, are likely to include a few standup routines that sound about as funny as an electricity bill. Fringe performers who deal with parental cruelty, online sex-shaming, serious addiction, mental illness and a coercive cult could all be in the running.Early tips suggest that among the contenders may be Ana Magliano, with a show about her hidden bisexuality, André de Frietas, a Portuguese comic who describes his descent into prostitution, Moses Storm, who chronicles his childhood inside a cult, and fellow American Avital Ash, with an act that “workshops her suicide note”. My five star picks of the Edinburgh Fringe after week one.
I’ve only seen 38 shows out of the 3,750 or so that are available, but I’ve very carefully curated my festival So here are my personal, all five star, picks. (In order of my own view of brilliantness) Funeral by Ontroerend Goed at Zoo Southside. A sublime experience like no other and incomparable. Here’s what Time out said about it. I’m sure I write a variation on this same introduction pretty…

Jesse explaining that although all three boys generally experienced the same physical abuse, Roman has internalized his experience as a victim in a different way than Kendall and Connor.
“I would suggest Logan would have cuffed and hit all the boys at different times in their lives.  I think the difference for Roman maybe is that he feels like he was bullied in the domestic environment and so we can all react to things in different ways. I think Connor and Kendall probably have experienced that and have managed to accommodate it without it being a big part of their psychology whereas I think Roman being that beaten dog and being - there’s often a dynamic isn’t there with bullied people as sort of needing the feeling of negative attention that you get from that and I think he’s become, not addicted to it, but related to it.”

== Love Notes ==
Hey there lovelies! Happy start to the weekend! I truly hope you've had fun this week in some capacity. There's been something for everyone and hopefully we continue to see some hype coming up in the up coming weeks.
Today I wanted to remind you of something that I know you've heard before, but like anything in this life, repetition helps to solidify things so I'm gonna say some of it again. You don't need to prove to anyone your worth. You don't need to beg for anyone to love you and you certainly don't need to be someone you're not for someone else's sake. We all have demands from outside forces every day-- work, school, etc, and a lot of those demands are things we have to cope with in order to function in and be a part of society. Those demands aren't always in our best interest, but for the most part they're at least somewhat reasonable. However, there are going to be times that others have demands on you that are completely unreasonable. Maybe someone expects you to fall into a pretty little category. Maybe someone expects you to understand them when they aren't being clear. Maybe someone expects you to bend over backwards and change for their benefit, but not provide you with the same courtesy.
Whatever unreasonable demands you're dealing with, I just want to send you a reminder that you are allowed to say no. You are allowed to set up boundaries to help minimise that kind of behavior. You are allowed to just be you, and to continue to shine being you. Nothing is black and white, so it may not be easy, and may not be viable, or safe for some people-- I absolutely get that, and you should always keep your safety and security top of mind. But if you have the wiggle room, and you can set up those boundaries, remember there's nothing wrong with wanting to continue to be you, the way you are and defending that you.
You are wonderful lovelies, and we all have things in life we can improve on, but you being your beautiful, unique, authentic self is a right, and you have every right to protect the parts of you you hold dear. You don't have to prove to anyone that you are worthy of love just being yourself-- because you already ARE worthy of love, and light, and good things.
You don't have to fit into a neat little box to be loved, or valid. You are already both of those things, and sometimes it's hard to see it in ourselves-- so this reminder is from me to you, from the crew, to you, that you are wonderful just the way you are. Rest well and be kind to yourselves lovelies, you deserve it.

Edinburgh Fringe Interview: Kristin Winters - Lovefool
The charming and unapologetically funny one-woman show Lovefool is an honest depiction of the shameful, awkward, and painful events in our lives. This deeply personal play by Gintare Parulyte champions life’s endless pursuit of healing, regardless of how heart-breaking or embarrassing it can be. The brutally vulnerable and hilarious show navigates the impossibly confusing dynamics of modern…

I've finally finished the bulk of my unpacking from the UK. I have a bag with the stuff that was in my suitcase on the way home, but not on the way there. Mostly stuff my friend in London has been saving for me, to give me all at once in person and avoid shipping costs. Things he picked up for me so he could get them signed by people in England, or things I ordered online to his place to avoid paying shipping to Canada.
And there were a few things he's just grabbed for me from events he attended. For example, I now have to decide which bit of my wall I want to dedicate to flyers he got from Edinburgh 2023, of some of my favourite acts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Along, of course, with the flyer I took myself from Edinburgh 2024, for the express purpose of putting it on my wall:
Tumblr media
I also got some new books, such as: I Noticed That My Empathetic, Intellectual, Thoughtful, and Compassionate Approach To Things That Came Through In My Work Was Nourishing Some People's Deeply Flagging Faith In Humanity, and I Can't Just Let People Have Nice Things So Here's the Story of How I Cheated on My Wife:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ordered a signed copy (to London, to save on shipping costs, so that's why I only got it now), and I was allowed to say how I want him to dedicate the signature, so I said I'm going to London and Edinburgh next year, what should I do there? That was his advice. I tried to follow it, went to Scott's Monument on my last day there. But there were signs that said climbing it was temporarily closed, so I just sat down against it and stared at the castle for a while instead.
There was also this, where Tim Key was signing books at a launch event, and I asked my friend to get me a copy and have Tim sign it with his advice about what I should do during a trip to London and Edinburgh:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did go to Mosque Kitchen, repeatedly, in multiple locations, and it was an excellent meal every time. Score one point to Tim Key over Mark Watson, there. Two points if you include the fact that he's not cheated on his wife (or if he has, he's done a much better job of keeping it a secret, not even revealing that he had a wife at all).
There's also this, which was a surprise, as those other books I requested and paid for, but this one apparently came free with something else so got thrown in, and I'm looking forward to going through it:
Tumblr media
Also an Edinburgh Fringe 2024 book, which I have to figure out a place for, because that is a really lovely keepsake - programme from the first time I attended that festival - but it is surprisingly thick. I guess not surprising if you think about how many shows are on, but I hadn't thought of that, and was surprised by the size of this:
Tumblr media
And then something that I definitely requested, and was so excited when he sent me a picture of the signature, even more excited to finally have it in my hands:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's my favourite Gavin Osborn album, signed for me after a Union Chapel gig with Kitson, what an excellent bit of memorabilia. Up there, of course, with the DVD that I posted the other day but it's worth posting again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terrible movie from 2001 in which Daniel Kitson appeared in three scenes, for 36 seconds in total, signed by Kitson in spring 2024. Because I told my friend that he should go up to Daniel Kitson after a gig and ask him to sign the DVD of the terrible movie in which he appeared very briefly in 2001, preferably to sign it with his catchphrase from the movie, which was "Brace yourselves!" To be clear, I was obviously joking when I said my friend should do that. But he did it anyway. And had it signed with my name on it (I don't usually put my real name on Tumblr, my name has appeared multiple times in this post, it's one of the most common first names in the world, I figure I'm probably safe).
I've got my new stuff added to my collection that includes, from top to bottom in this picture: Grace Petrie's 2021 album (also signed to me, when I saw her live last year), signed Gavin Osborn CD, Daniel Kitson's Shenaniganagain CD, the Lucksmiths album from 2006 where Kitson wrote the liner notes, DVD from 2001 where Kitson briefly appeared as a bus driver, John Oliver's stand-up DVD from 2008, Conchords, In the Loop, Thick of It, you get to some Monty Python movies just out of frame:
Tumblr media
I also picked up a couple of vinyl records that I've ordered in the last year, but had them sent to London to save on shipping costs:
Tumblr media
That's Kitson's Christmas show, and John Kearns' stand-up show Double Take And Fade Away. Both of which of course came with digital downloads, which I used ages ago so I've already heard those shows (I mean, the Kitson show I'd heard long before since it was on his website), and greatly enjoyed both. But I like that I have the physical albums now. I have to pick up some vinyl record-sized frames so I can put them on my wall. When I do that, I'll pick up an extra one for the Bugle vinyl record, whenever it arrives, which was supposed to be months ago and an email today said will be a while yet.
Tumblr media
That last thing isn't comedy, it's a book I bought at a really cool bookstore where I wanted to buy something just because the store was so cool, but I figured if I buy a new book for myself it won't get read (I have enough to be getting on with, reading-wise, what with the books by 2/3 of No More Jockeys and the Richard Herring), so I bought a beautifully-illustrated children's book to donate to where I work. Which seems sort of selfless, but like I said I did want to buy something from that store just for the experience of buying something in such a cool place, and in the centre where I work, I've read every book they have to the kids I work with 100 times, so it'll be nice for me as much as anyone else to have a new one to read.
All right, that's what I've got. I believe this post is as close as I'll come to an unboxing video. Unboxing the bag in my suitcase full of things I did not have with me when I left for the UK. Now I just need to find the right wall space and shelf space.

Darren Criss and Cat Cohen Will Lend Voices to GWYNETH GOES SKIING in Edinburgh and Utah
Gwyneth Goes Skiing is headed to Edinburgh Fringe this August, and will also make its international premiere in Utah.
Darren Criss will provide the singing voice of Terry Sanderson alongisde Edinburgh Comedy Award Winning comedian, actress and singer Cat Cohen, who will lend her voice  as Gwyneth Paltrow on the vocal track with hits including I Wish You Well and See You In Court.
Darren Criss is best known for playing the role of Blaine Anderson in Glee (alongside the real  Gwyneth Paltrow!). In 2018, he was awarded Emmy and Golden Globe acting awards for his  leading role in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Criss has also starred  on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Hedwig and the Angry  Inch.
Edinburgh Comedy Award-winner Cat Cohen’s live comedy performances combine stand-up  comedy with cabaret-style songs. The comedian, actress, and singer’s first Netflix comedy  special, The Twist...? She's Gorgeous, was released in 2022. As an actress, she has appeared on  comedy series such as High Maintenance, Broad City, Search Party, and What We Do in the  Shadows.
Criss and Cohen digitally join Trixie Mattel who makes a special on-screen appearance as  Gwyneth Paltrow’s mother, Blythe Danner. They are seen alongside the original Gwyneth Goes  Skiing cast - Linus Karp as the Goop-founding, Door-Sliding, Shakespeare-In-Loving, consciously uncoupling Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Martin as her nemesis, Terry  Sanderson, a retired Optometrist from Utah.
The world debut of Darren and Cat’s voices will be back where it all began, Park City, Utah. The  now-infamous location of Terry Sanderson and Gwyneth Paltrow’s collision in 2016 will play  host to the US transfer of Awkward Productions and Pleasance Theatre’s runaway hit. Gwyneth  Goes Skiing’s transfer to The Egyptian Theatre marks the first international transfer for Awkward  Productions’ work.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing, which is a co-production between Awkward Productions  and the Pleasance Theatre, returns to the slopes after two sold-out and critically-acclaimed runs  in London. This silly play-with-music marks Awkward Productions’ return to the Fringe  after Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story had a sold-out run in 2023.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing recounts the collision in 2016 on the slopes of Deer Valley and the court  case seven years later that enthralled the world. This very silly story of justice, betrayal and  optometry makes the audience the jury, asking them to decide who's guilty and who's gooped.  Gwyneth Goes Skiing features a whole lot of fiction, a sprinkling of verbatim lines from court  transcripts and delightfully catchy original music by Leland (RuPaul’s Drag Race; Cher’s  Christmas; Troye Sivan’s Something To Give Each Other).
Performance Information The Egyptian Theatre, Utah  Thursday 16th – Sunday 26th May 2024  328 Main Street, Park City, Utah 84060 https://parkcityshows.com
