Eeva Kilpi is a Finnish novelist and poet, born in 1928. As a woman writing about sex in the 1960s and 70s, her work broke many taboos and, as an author of fanfic, I have sometimes taken inspiration from her work. I just came across this in a newspaper interview in 2019 (Suomen Kuvalehti, 9.2.2019) and it definitely struck a chord:

”The reader is an experiencer and feels strongly about the book. It is a way of dealing with memories that one would not otherwise know how to talk about or be able to talk about. It is a spiritual and spiritual connection between people that is carried from decade to decade and that comes to the fore in literature. People have many things at all times that they do not talk about in everyday life, but sometimes strong emotions take over the mind.”
