"Recent global popularity of social media content about dissociative identity disorder (DID) has coincided with increased self-diagnosis among children and young people who have formed large online communities and presented in clinical settings seeking to affirm their self-diagnoses. We situate this phenomenon within a broader trend toward self-diagnosis due to the widespread visibility and accessibility of mental health content on social media. Social media propelled self-diagnosis raises particular questions for the study and treatment of DID due to long-standing debates over whether the condition is traumagenic, sociogenic, or iatrogenic. This paper draws from the current state of knowledge about psychiatric self-diagnosis, the influence of social media on youth mental health, and the authors' clinical experience to present preliminary conceptualizations of DID self-diagnosis and its significance for clinical practice. Established etiological models for DID acknowledge the role of sociocultural and contextual factors in shaping and reinforcing the elaboration of DID self-states. We hypothesize that multiple forms of online sociality and interaction encourage such elaborations. Social media content regarding DID, however, is routinely unreliable and low quality, often mischaracterizing the condition's symptoms and minimizing associated suffering and disability. This paper considers the likelihood that the self-diagnosing DID cohort includes genuine, genuine but exaggerated, imitative, and malingering cases, and underscores the importance of careful and personalized assessment and diagnosis."

Aside from news on how things possibly stand for a Shadow and Bone/Six Of Crows renewal (basically no news is good news, keep going with the campaign!) there's also a short interview with Eric Heisserer, which sheds some interesting light indeed on the writing and making of Season Two, and it explains a lot of things:
Here are the questions posed for Eric's interview:
"I'd like to know if there's a way to liberate the pre-written scripts if Netflix doesn't plan on using them" - Christian Thalmann (creator of the Fjerdan language)
"In my view, 'The Crows' have the potential to revitalize the Grishaverse. Unlike "Shadow and Bone", this new show could rely less on elaborate visual effects and offer a fresh narrative angle. Heist-themed shows are currently in high demand, adding to its appeal. Am I mistaken in thinking that our focus should primarily be on 'The Crows'? The likelihood of 'Shadow and Bone' returning seems slim, but I've always believed that 'The Crows' had a greater change of success." - Joleen
"If/when the spinoff is back (finger crossed) was there anything he had planned that would completely surprised, for good reasons obviously, the audience? And we should hold our breath for that twist/turn??" - Rti
"What are the difficulties you mentioned about filming S2 in that Reddit comment? Don't want to sound negative, but what went wrong?!" - Mitra
"How long was the sizzle reel ready to go but he had to keep it secret?" - Discord Team
"I would love to know his perspective on the impact of streaming on storytelling. Would we have had to launch a campaign like this 10-15 years ago for a show like this? What are the main points when it comes to streaming models and telling unique, diverse stories?" - Acorn_Bri
Eric's Responses:
1) "There is a way to liberate the Crows scripts from Netflix, yes, and in fact that would be part of the buyout for another streamer when acquiring the rights to Leigh's novels. It would be a package deal."
2) "The focus on the Crows is helpful in two ways -- first, those scripts were written, which lets us get a running start at production, and second, just from casual analysis of book sales, it's far more popular worldwide than other Grishaverse titles. So it will be a bigger draw for viewers. The trap though is the cost. It's more grounded than S&B, sure, but the Ice Court is a unique location that either requires a really costly set build, or set extensions and VFX work to make it look authentic, which means nearly every shot of the heist once our crew gets there could be a VFX shot. My guess is the budget would be on par with S2 of S&B.
3) "Yes, there is a surprise or two in the Crows spinoff season, but overall it's as close to the novel as we could make it. And Leigh's novel is such an amazing story with natural cliffhangers that work as episode "out" moments, etc. I think the biggest move we made was to feature every single Crow's backstory to go with their episode. So that was fun/sad/exciting."
4) S2 kept throwing challenges at us, and it started long before we got to production. Like months earlier, when we learned the location we needed for the Little Palace in S1 was closed to us due to the pandemic. So right there we lost out on a ton of S&S scenes, because it wouldn't be a match. But we also had written a compelling side arc for Ivan and Fedyor in S2, these two Grisha trapped on either side of the civil war. Each of them played a big role in the story, but Simon (Ivan) had a feature film that overlapped with our schedule and couldn't move, which meant we lost him. So Daegan worked to revise the season keeping Fedyor and leaving Ivan like dead from the end of S1. He was Kirigan's right-hand man for the season. But poor Julian caught COVID just when we were to shoot out most of his scenes, and after tyring to ake the schedule work, we had to come to the brutal truth that there wasn't a way to keep Fedyor in the story. Our only option was to bring him in at like episode 8, which would've been too little, too late.
COVID continued to be a monster all through production, requiring us to juggle schedules and miss out on days, and it was madness for the cast, who had to pivot with almost no notice whenever someone was ill and quarantined. This isn't unique to our show of course---it happened with everyone. It's just the challenge.
Beyond that, we had been given the go to write a special standalone story: The Demon in the Wood. This would have been released on its own around Christmas, like a BBC special but for Netflix, and would help bridge seasons 1 and 2 by showing a little of what Kirigan was doing before we seem him in S2, and also provide more character context, etc. Christina Strain wrote that and did great work adapting Leigh's short story. But it never went the distance.
There was a lot more to S2 as well, scenes and side stories and little interactions that were lost due to budget or time restrictions. Again, not unique to our show, but agonizing all the same, since what you get is not what we had written, or in some cases even shot. I'm incredibly proud of the cast and the team, and Daegan did the heaviest lifting while I was off finishing the Crows writing room. But we had a lot more thrown at us."
5) That sizzle reel was put together four months before the second season dropped.
6) Streaming is a challenge to serialized storytelling in that it looks at 'content' often with a different agenda and uses metrics that can take a creative issue and exacerbate it. Like in broadcast, if viewership and thus ad revenue has slightly declined, the show will ned to find a way to make their 22 or 13 episodes on a proportionally smaller budget. What is not done is reduce episode order. But if a streaming series underperforms or doesn't meet expectations, an the streamer doesn't cancel it outright, the go-to budget reduction idea is to reduce episode order for the next season. When you just have 8 episodes and continue to deal with notes to compress, pace up, or omit for what you'd scripted for a longer season, reducing further to six or four episodes is exhausting.
This happens due to a slide in autonomy from what the showrunner position has been. What the chatter on the picket lines revealed to us is that most showrunners today don't get to see their own show's budget, and thus don't get the freedom to make budgetary decisions that could better protect the story they're telling. More and more, showrunners not at a legacy network aren't the final say or at times even involved in hiring key roles. I don't have any ideas that aren't already in contract language, I just see how the job on this side has gotten harder and there isn't much of a way for us to make it easier for each other like we could with having writers on set or in post production, because the streaming model has made that impossible."

Many have discovered an argument hack. They don’t need to argue that something is false. They just need to show that it’s associated with low status. The converse is also true: You don’t need to argue that something is true. You just need to show that it’s associated with high status. And when low status people express the truth, it sometimes becomes high status to lie.
In the 1980s, the psychologists Richard E. Petty and John T. Cacioppo developed the “Elaboration Likelihood Model” to describe how persuasion works. “Elaboration” here means the extent to which a person carefully thinks about the information. When people’s motivation and ability to engage in careful thinking is present, the “elaboration likelihood” is high. This means people are likely to pay attention to the relevant information and draw conclusions based on the merits of the arguments or the message. When elaboration likelihood is high, a person is willing to expend their cognitive resources to update their views.
Two paths to persuasion
The idea is that there are two paths, or two “routes,” to persuading others. The first type, termed the “central” route, comes from careful and thoughtful consideration of the messages we hear. When the central route is engaged, we actively evaluate the information presented, and try to discern whether or not it’s true.
When the “peripheral” route is engaged, we pay more attention to cues apart from the actual information or content or the message. For example, we might evaluate someone’s argument based on how attractive they are or where they were educated, without considering the actual merits of their message.
When we accept a message through the peripheral route, we tend to be more passive than when we accept a message through the central route. Unfortunately, the peripheral route is more prevalent because we are exposed to an increasingly large amount of information.
The renowned psychologists Susan Fiske and Shelley Taylor have characterized humans as “cognitive misers.” They write, “People are limited in their capacity to process information, so they take shortcuts whenever they can.”
We are lazy creatures who try to expend as little mental energy as possible.
And people are typically less motivated to scrutinize a message if the source is considered to be an expert. We interpret the message through the peripheral route.
This is one reason why media outlets often appoint experts who mirror their political values. These experts lend credibility to the views the outlet espouses. Interestingly, though, expertise appears to influence persuasion only if the individual is identified as an expert before they communicate their message. Research has found that when a person is told the source is an expert after listening to the message, this new information does not increase the person’s likelihood of believing the message.
It works the other way, too. If a person is told that a source is not an expert before the message, the person tends to be more skeptical of the message. If told the source is not an expert after the message, this has no effect on a person’s likelihood of believing the message.
This suggests that knowing a source is an expert reduces our motivation to engage in central processing. We let our guards down.
As motivation and/or ability to process arguments is decreased, peripheral cues become more important for persuasion. Which might not bode well.
However, when we update our beliefs by weighing the actual merits of an argument (central route), our updated beliefs tend to endure and are more robust against counterpersuasion, compared to when we update our beliefs through peripheral processing. If we come to believe something through careful and thoughtful consideration, that belief is more resilient to change.
This means we can be more easily manipulated through the peripheral route. If we are convinced of something via the peripheral route, a manipulator will be more successful at using the peripheral route once again to alter our initial belief.
Social consequences of our beliefs
But why does this matter? Because by understanding how and why we come to hold our beliefs, we can better understand ourselves and guard against manipulation.
The founders of the elaboration likelihood model wrote that, “Ultimately, we suspect that attitudes are seen as correct or proper to the extent that they are viewed as beneficial for the physical or psychological well-being of the person.”
In his book The Social Leap, the evolutionary psychologist William von Hippel writes, “a substantial reason we evolved such large brains is to navigate our social world… A great deal of the value that exists in the social world is created by consensus rather than discovered in an objective sense… our cognitive machinery evolved to be only partially constrained by objective reality.” Our social brains process information not only by examining the facts, but also considering the social consequences of what happens to our reputations if we believe something.
Indeed, in his influential theory of social comparison processes, the eminent psychologist Leon Festinger suggested that people evaluate the “correctness” of their opinions by comparing them to the opinions of others. When we see others hold the same beliefs as us, our own confidence in those beliefs increases. Which is one reason why people are more likely to proselytize beliefs that cannot be verified through empirical means.
In short, people have a mechanism in their minds. It stops them from saying something that could lower their status, even if it’s true. And it propels them to say something that could increase their status, even if it’s false. Sometimes, local norms can push against this tendency. Certain communities (e.g., scientists) can obtain status among their peers for expressing truths. But if the norm is relaxed, people might default to seeking status over truth if status confers the greater reward.
Furthermore, knowing that we could lose status if we don’t believe in something causes us to be more likely to believe in it to guard against that loss. Considerations of what happens to our own reputation guides our beliefs, leading us to adopt a popular view to preserve or enhance our social positions. We implicitly ask ourselves, “What are the social consequences of holding (or not holding) this belief?”
But our reputation isn’t the only thing that matters when considering what to believe. Equally important is the reputation of others. Returning to the peripheral route of persuasion, we decide whether to believe something not only if lots of people believe it, but also if the proponent of the belief is a prestigious person. If lots of people believe something, our likelihood of believing it increases. And if a high-status person believes something, we are more prone to believing it, too.
Prestigious role models
This starts when we are children. In her recent book Cognitive Gadgets, the Oxford psychologist Cecilia Hayes writes, “children show prestige bias; they are more likely to copy a model that adults regard as being higher social status- for example, their head-teacher rather than an equally familiar person of the same age and gender.” Hayes cites a 2013 study by Nicola McGuigan who found that five-year-old children are “selective copiers.” Results showed that kids were more likely to imitate their head-teacher rather than an equally familiar person of the same age and gender. Young children are more likely to imitate a person that adults regard as being higher status.
People in general favor mimicking prestigious people compared to ordinary people. This is why elites have an outsized effect on culture, and why it is important to scrutinize their ideas and opinions. As a descriptive observation, the opinions of my friend who works at McDonald’s have less effect on society than the opinions of my friend who works at McKinsey. If you have any kind of prominence, you unavoidably become a model that others, including children, are more likely to emulate.
Indeed, the Canadian anthropologist Jerome Barkow posits that people across the world view media figures as more prestigious than respected members of their local communities. People on screen appear to be attractive, wealthy, popular, and powerful. Barkow writes, “All over the world, children are learning not from members of their own community but from media figures whom they perceive as prestigious… local prestige is debased.” As this phenomenon continues to grow, the opinions and actions of the globally-prestigious carry even more influence.
Of course, people don’t copy others with high-status solely because they hope that mimicking them will boost their own status. We tend to believe that prestigious people are more competent; prominence is a heuristic for skill.
In a recent paper about prestige-based social learning, researchers Ángel V. Jiménez and Alex Mesoudi wrote that assessing competence directly “may be noisy and costly. Instead, social learners can use short-cuts either by making inferences from the appearance, personality, material possessions, etc. of the models.”
For instance, a military friend of mine used to be a tutor for rich high school students. He himself is not as wealthy as them, and disclosed to me that he paid $200 to replace his old earphones for AirPods. This was so that the kids and their families would believe he is in the same social position as them, and therefore qualified to teach.
Prestige paradox
Which brings us to a question: Who is most susceptible to manipulation via peripheral persuasion? It might seem intuitive to believe that people with less education are more manipulable. But research suggests this may not be true.
High-status people are more preoccupied with how others view them. Which means that educated and/or affluent people may be especially prone to peripheral, as opposed to central, methods of persuasion.
Indeed, the psychology professor Keith Stanovich, discussing his research on “myside bias,” has written, “if you are a person of high intelligence… you will be less likely than the average person to realize you have derived your beliefs from the social groups you belong to and because they fit with your temperament and your innate psychological propensities.”
Students and graduates of top universities are more prone to myside bias. They are more likely to “evaluate evidence, generate evidence, and test hypotheses in a manner biased toward their own prior beliefs, opinions, and attitudes.”
This is not unique to our own time. William Shirer, the American journalist and author of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, described his experiences as a war correspondent in Nazi Germany. Shirer wrote, “Often in a German home or office or sometimes in a casual conversation with a stranger in a restaurant, beer hall, or café, I would meet with outlandish assertions from seemingly educated and intelligent persons. It was obvious they were parroting nonsense they heard on the radio or read in the newspapers. Sometimes one was tempted to say as much, but one was met with such incredulity, as if one had blasphemed the Almighty.”
Likewise, in a fascinating study on the collapse of the Soviet Union, researchers have found that university-educated people were two to three times more likely than high school graduates to say they supported the Communist Party. White-collar professional workers were likewise two to three times more supportive of communist ideology, relative to farm laborers and semi-skilled workers.
Educational divides within the US today are consistent with these historical patterns. The Democratic political analyst David Shor has observed that, “Highly educated people tend to have more ideologically coherent and extreme views than working-class ones. We see this in issue polling and ideological self-identification. College-educated voters are way less likely to identify as moderate.”
One possibility for this is that regardless of time or place, affluent members of society are more likely to say the right things to either preserve status or gain more of it. A series of studies by researchers at the University of Queensland found that, “relative to lower-class individuals, upper-class individuals have a greater desire for wealth and status… it is those who have more to start with (i.e., upper-class individuals) who also strive to acquire more wealth and status.”
A more recent set of studies led by Cameron Anderson at the University of Berkeley found that social class, measured in terms of education and income, was positively associated with the desire for social status. People who had more education and money were more likely to agree with statements like “I enjoy having influence over other people’s decision making” and “It would please me to have a position of prestige and social standing.”
Social status loss aversion
Who feels most in danger of losing their reputations, though? Turns out, those same exact people. A survey by the Cato Institute in collaboration with YouGov asked a nationally representative sample of 2,000 Americans various questions about self-censorship.
They found that highly educated people are the most concerned about losing their jobs or missing out on job opportunities because of their political views. Twenty-five percent of those with a high school education or less are afraid of getting fired or hurting their employment prospects because of their political views, compared with 34 percent of college graduates and an astounding 44 percent of people with a postgraduate degree.
Results from a recent paper titled ‘Keeping Your Mouth Shut: Spiraling Self-Censorship in the United States’ by the political scientists James L. Gibson and Joseph L. Sutherland is consistent with the findings from Cato/Yougov. They find that self-censorship has skyrocketed. In the 1950s, at the height of McCarthyism, 13.4 percent of Americans reported that “felt less free to speak their mind than they used to.” In 1987, the figure had reached 20 percent. By 2019, 40 percent of Americans reported that they did not feel free to speak their minds. This isn’t a partisan issue, either. Gibson and Sutherland report that, “The percentage of Democrats who are worried about speaking their mind is just about identical to the percentage of Republicans who self-censor: 39 and 40 percent, respectively.”
The increase is especially pronounced among the educated class. The researchers report, “It is also noteworthy and perhaps unexpected that those who engage in self-censorship are not those with limited political resources… self-censorship is most common among those with the highest levels of education… This finding suggests a social learning process, with those with more education being more cognizant of social norms that discourage the expression of one’s views.”
Highly-educated people appear to be the most likely to express things they don’t necessarily believe for fear of losing their jobs or their reputation. Within the upper class, the true believers set the pace, and those who are loss-averse about their social positions go along with it.
Interestingly, there is suggestive evidence indicating that education is negatively associated with one’s sense of power. That is, the more education someone has, the more likely they are to agree with statements like, “Even if I voice them, my views have little sway” and “My ideas and opinions are often ignored.” Granted, the correlation is quite small (r = -.15). Still, the finding is significant and in the opposite direction of what most people would expect.
Research by Caitlin Drummond and Baruch Fischhoff at Carnegie Mellon University found that people with more education, science education, and science literacy are more polarized in their views about scientific issues depending on their political identity. For example, the people who are most concerned about climate change? College-educated Democrats. The people who are least concerned? College-educated Republicans. In contrast, less educated Democrats and Republicans are not so different from one another in their views about climate change.
Likewise, in an article titled “Academic and Political Elitism,” the sociologist Musa Al-Gharbi has summarized related research, writing, “compared to the general public, cognitively sophisticated voters are much more likely to form their positions on issues based on partisan cues of what they are ‘supposed’ to think in virtue of their identity as Democrats, Republicans, etc.”
High education and low opinions
It’s also useful to understand how highly educated people view others and their social relationships. Consider a paper titled ‘Seeing the Best or Worst in Others: A Measure of Generalized Other-Perceptions’ led by Richard Rau at the University of Münster. Rau and his colleagues were interested in how various factors influence people’s perceptions of others.
In the study, participants looked at social network profiles of people they did not know. They also viewed short video sequences of unfamiliar people describing a neutral personal experience like traveling to work. Researchers then asked participants to evaluate the people in the social media profiles and videos. Participants were asked how much they agreed with statements like “I like this person,” and “This person is cold-hearted.” Then participants responded to various demographic and personality questions about themselves.
Some findings weren’t so surprising. The researchers found, for example, that people who scored highly on the personality traits of openness and agreeableness tended to hold more favorable views of others.
More sobering, though, is that higher education was consistently related to less positive views of other people. In their paper they write, “to understand people’s feelings, behaviors, and social relationships, it is of key importance to know which general view they hold about others… the better people are educated, the less positive their other-perceptions are.”
So affluent people care the most about status, believe they have little power, are afraid of losing their jobs and reputation, and have less favorable views of others.
In short, opinions can confer status regardless of their truth value. And the individuals most likely to express certain opinions in order to preserve or enhance their status are also those who are already on the upper rungs of the social ladder.
There may be unpleasant consequences for this misguided use of intellect and time on the part of highly educated and affluent people. If the most fortunate members of society spend more time speaking in hushed tones, or live in fear of expressing themselves, or are more involved in culture wars, that is less time they could spend using their mental and economic resources to solve serious problems.
Smart people are usually better at finding the truth. But they’re also better at knowing which way the ideological winds are blowing, and thereby producing and accepting absurdities.

WHILE SHE COULD SAY WITH CERTAINTY THAT ATTAINED A LEVEL OF SKILL IN TRACKING PEOPLE, LOCATING A RUNAWAY HEIRESS CERTAINLY TESTED CANA'S SKILLS. That the young heiress gave Cana the slip not even an hour after their introduction was impressive and painted quite a picture for the knight that this assignment would not go as smoothly as her brethren led her to believe.
❝ What's hard about guarding a spoiled princess? Relax Alberona-- you'll do fine! ❞
Hah. Sure--easy for them to say.
If her old squad could see her now, they would have collapsed from laughter-- or from the beating she would deal upon them for their disrespectful mockery. They wouldn't understand why she took this assignment so seriously to begin with, and Cana never explained her reasons for why she took the job so quickly. From the moment Jude Heartfilia enlisted the Captain to help select his daughter's new bodyguard, Cana modeled herself as the picture-perfect knight who embodied all the qualities a man like Jude would be looking for. He didn't need to know about her background, nor did he seem to care about her past, which was just Cana's luck:
If Jude had learned that Cana was once Lucy Heartfilia's old friend from her childhood, the likelihood of her keeping the assignment would have been neigh impossible. After all, a nobleman of Jude's standing would never allow a street rat to become close to his only daughter, much less be her friend. What would the court say after all? It just wouldn't do. But ignorance was indeed bliss, and neither Lord Heartfilia, nor his daughter suspected anything damning about Cana's upbringing. The only thing that mattered was her abilities and the determination to perform her assigned duties: of which they were now currently playing an elaborate game of hide and seek.
IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT THE KNIGHT CAUGHT UP TO THE HEIRESS QUICKLY. Though certainly not for a lack of trying on Lucy's part, Cana always had an uncanny sense of finding people-- and with Lucy, Cana was especially attuned to her presence. The moment she spotted her Lady's blonde hair, Cana pounced-- pulling her from her hiding spot, she turned her and pressed her against the wall, pinning her with just her body weight alone. She ensured to treat Lucy gently, as was deserving of her stature; however, whatever grace Lucy would expect from Cana would be in short supply, along with her patience.
❝ @startouching-- if this was a serious attempt to run away, then I apologize for ruining your plan, but I can't allow you to remain unguarded. However, if this was your attempt to play 'hide and seek', I would like to ask that you don't. ❞
Tumblr media
Despite her stern words, the Knights' expression grew soft.
❝ ...at least give me some warning if you're going to play these games. ❞

Wallowing in Corruption- Chapter One
CW: NSFW, Fem Reader, Drug induced Quirks, Drug Addiction, Alcohol use, Gangs, Politics, Complex plot, Morally Grey chars, Dark Chars, Abduction, Corrupted Police

----
Chapter One: Dread
It was funny, if you thought about tonight in the terms of some trashy crime novel; the air was sticky and thick with a feeling of dread. Like something was waiting in the shadows to devour you whole. Sadly, this wasn’t some book, this was life in Sin City, and the likelihood of dying that night was just as high as some poor unsuspecting victim in a thriller. Dying here would be more permanent, however.
Your steps were quick as you checked your watch for what had to be the eighth time. Glad that you had gone with short, chunky heels instead of the taller slim ones you had been eyeing at home, you were able to rush more easily to your job. It would make the night go smoother, and maybe at the end your feet wouldn’t be on fire.
Five minutes to go and you were right at the corner of the block where the venue was being held. You would be there with a few minutes to spare, maybe then you could calm your racing heart before the meeting. Surprisingly, you didn’t even know who the customer was this time. Usually, during most catering jobs, your company sent out at least a small profile. This time, all you knew was the menu, and how loaded this person was looking at the area and the food you were serving.
Stepping into the employee entrance, the temperature immediately dropped five degrees and your trepidation increased. Were you imagining it all? The feeling that something was waiting for you. That something would be happening tonight? You knew in these cities that this sensation wasn’t something to ignore. But ignorance was such a blissful feeling. So instead of lingering on the paranoia that buzzed insistently through your nerves, you focused on your job and pushed away the thought of running for your life.
The pretty trays filled with delicate hors d’oeurves were waiting in the kitchen as you and your coworkers gathered around the manager.
“Alright team, tonight is a big one. We are serving the Shie Hassaikai, specifically the Shepard’s Party that they have every two months. If we do well,” her gaze fell on every single one of you. “We may get hired again. So, don’t let me down.”
That’s the yakuza, your eyes narrowed slightly with the realization. Though you didn’t say anything, the thought that you would be serving one of the largest criminal organizations in the country, settled like a stone in the back of your mind.
Still you started, picking up your tray without a moment’s hesitation. On the shiny gold platter was several flutes of blush colored wine, the glass sparkling enticingly as the lights caught them. You stepped out of the side door of the kitchen; the crowd had started to fill out as the party began.
Masks covered most people’s faces, most of them modeled after various animals. You were taking in the multitude of faces when a man, with his lower face covered in an elaborate plague doctor’s mask- emphasis on the bird persona- stepped out of a large door with a keypad, and into your path.
Acting on instinct, you pulled the tray aside and your opposite shoulder glanced off his arm. With a slight grunt he looked down at you, raising an elegant brow which was set over the most beautiful pair of molten gold eyes. Eyes that were deceptively heated due to their color, but actually cold with judgement. They flicked over you and it was too easy to see the disapproving sneer behind his mask.
“Watch where you’re going! I didn’t pay this much to have bumbling idiots as my servers, and don’t spill a drop of that wine,” his stare sharpened and though his tone was condescending, you could almost see a glint of playful mockery in his gaze.
“Sorry, sir,” you swallowed, his words made you painfully aware that this man was your boss for the night, a man who could probably gut you in front of his guests and no one would bat an eye. “I’ll be careful, I promise. If you could excuse me.”
You bobbed your head and readjusted the weight of the flutes on the serving dish, making your way through the slowly growing crowd. The heavy weight of a pair of eyes on your back didn’t even register as you left the man back at the door. He hummed thoughtfully for a moment before readjusting the gloves on his hands and pressing two buttons on the keypad, causing a heavy grating sound to come from a mechanism inside the closed door.
You were already far into the crowd when he looked back to where you’d been, his brows drew together just slightly. The environment tonight felt odd. It’d been a while since it felt so ominous to the yakuza, and he hadn’t gotten so far ahead by ignoring the city’s warnings. There was always a little breath that escaped it, foretelling of death.
He would talk to security, he stepped down the hall, before once again looking into the crowd over his shoulder as if his eyes were magnetically drawn to a force that was no longer there.
You, on the other hand, walked towards a table where two men sat. One had his hair swept back into a styled bun, his suit a smartly pressed black Italian number with a tie that was goldenrod yellow. He wore a grey and white wolf mask with a similar golden trim to his tie, talking low and intensely to a man in front of him. That man wore something far less proper, a long blue trench coat, his ears adorned in piercings and… staples… were those medical staples along his cheeks, and burns?!
You avoided gaping, instead dropping your gaze just enough to notice a package filled with little white ovals, slip from a scarred hand to one elegantly cuffed in black, “Hello, sirs, did you want a drink?”
Carefully you raised your eyes. Keeping your expression blank and cheery, a tilt to your head and a smile stretching across your face.
The man with the wolf mask seemed taken aback at your appearance, dark eyes blinking. One hand shifted to discreetly slip into his pocket.
“That’s alright, doll, I’m more of a whiskey lover,” you shifted your gaze to the man with what looked like a silver dragon mask covering the upper half of his face, the staples on his jaw glinting in the low light, as he answered.
You wondered if the rest of him looked like that, and as your stare drifted to his, your breath caught, the intensity of the blue was not something you were prepared for. What was with the men and their eyes tonight? Must have just been the masks making them pop.
A shiver fluttered over your skin as the scarred man’s companion cleared his throat, and you nodded your head politely.
“Ah, of course, I’m sorry for interrupting. If you need anything later, sirs, please find me or one of my coworkers,” you said and slipped back into the crowd.
Both men watched the soft sway of your hips until it was impossible to tell you apart from the rest of party goers. The air had become stifling, and they considered one another over the table.
The cop ran a finger and thumb along the tiny zip lock in his pocket, soothed by the smoothness and the contents within. He stood, excusing himself from the table, no longer wanting to be around the other man now that the deal had been done.
The other man however was looking at the spot where you had been standing. He breathed deeply, steadily, trying to soothe his stuttering heart. What were you doing here? This wasn’t the place for you. Fuck, you should have left the city ages ago, but serving at the Shepard’s Party? He had tried so hard… so hard to forget….
He grimaced and stepped toward the bar, he needed to drown his thoughts in whiskey and maybe some pussy.
You were deep in the crowd when your platter had been emptied. Pressing the top against your chest to make maneuvering easier, you ducked and weaved through the group. You were in the corner, catching your breath because the heat and press of bodies seemed to suck the oxygen right from your lungs.
Laying behind a potted plant to your right was a tiny clear bag that caught your eye, zipped tight at the top, with a small group of pills in it. You squatted and picked it up, staring hard at the unassuming objects, noticing the bright red hook shape stamped on both sides. You cocked your head to the side, pursing your lips thoughtfully, before the lights dropped and the room went pitch black.
The sounds of gasps and dramatic yells cascaded around you. Your muscles froze, tightening your fist around the bag and you focused on the black space in front, hoping you could force your eyes to adjust.
The sound of voices calling out, a door slamming and the call again, “SIN CITY POLICE! DON’T MOVE! COME ALONG QUIETLY!”
The feeling of your heart kicking into overdrive and your blood rushing into your ears made everything all too real. Chaos started to descend very quickly, jostling bodies that couldn’t be seen, whipping wind as people rushed to escape. Fuck, you couldn’t get caught here. Not with your hands around a packet of unknown pills. Was this what the feeling of trepidation was alluding to earlier?
The sound of a muffled curse next to you and a hand grabbing your upper bicep had you biting your lip as you struggled against the iron grip moving you forward.
“Don’t fight me,” the man hissed.
You couldn’t recognize the voice, and you couldn’t tell if it was a cop or a party goer. As you slipped into a hallway brightness from a cell phone light popped on, and you managed to catch the edge of a mask. Recognizing it from a party goer who had caught your eye earlier that night.
Is it:             Chisaki Kai?             Aizawa Shota?             Dabi?

From 3D to 2D: The Art of Furniture Design
Tumblr media
Introduction to Furniture Design
The Evolution of Furniture Design
Furniture design has always been a reflection of the times, evolving alongside changes in culture, technology, and societal needs. From the ornate designs of the Baroque period to the sleek lines of mid-century modern, furniture design tells the story of human creativity and ingenuity. Today, as we witness a shift from traditional 3D furniture design to the more streamlined and accessible 2D approach, it's clear that this evolution is far from over.
Importance of Design in Furniture
Design is the heart and soul of furniture. It’s what transforms a simple chair into a statement piece, a table into the centerpiece of a room. Good design combines aesthetics with functionality, ensuring that the furniture not only looks good but also serves its intended purpose. In a world where consumer preferences are increasingly leaning towards minimalism and sustainability, design plays a crucial role in meeting these demands.
From 3D to 2D: A New Perspective
The transition from 3D to 2D design in furniture might seem like a step back, but in reality, it’s a forward-thinking approach that aligns with contemporary trends. By stripping away the excess, 2D design emphasizes the essentials, offering a minimalist yet impactful aesthetic that resonates with modern consumers.
The Basics of 3D Furniture Design
What is 3D Furniture Design?
3D furniture design involves creating three-dimensional models of furniture pieces using specialized software. These models allow designers to visualize the final product from every angle, making it easier to refine details and ensure accuracy before production begins. This method has been the standard in the industry for years, offering unparalleled precision and the ability to create complex, intricate designs.
Tools and Software Used in 3D Design
The most common tools used in 3D furniture design include software like AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Blender. These programs enable designers to create detailed models, complete with textures, colors, and materials. They also allow for easy modifications, making it possible to experiment with different design elements until the perfect balance is achieved.
Advantages of 3D Furniture Design
One of the main advantages of 3D design is the ability to create highly detailed and complex pieces. Designers can experiment with various shapes, materials, and finishes, all while visualizing the end product in a realistic manner. This approach also allows for precise measurements and proportions, reducing the likelihood of errors during production.
Challenges in 3D Furniture Design
However, 3D furniture design is not without its challenges. The process can be time-consuming and requires a high level of expertise. Additionally, the software used can be expensive, making it less accessible to smaller design studios or individual designers. There’s also the issue of over-designing, where the focus on detail and complexity can sometimes lead to impractical or overly elaborate pieces.
The Transition from 3D to 2D Design
Why Transition from 3D to 2D?
The shift from 3D to 2D furniture design is driven by a variety of factors, including the growing popularity of minimalism, cost considerations, and environmental concerns. In a world where less is more, 2D design offers a way to create visually appealing and functional furniture without the complexities and expenses associated with 3D design.
The Role of Minimalism in Modern Design
Minimalism is more than just a trend; it’s a lifestyle choice that emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and the elimination of unnecessary elements. In furniture design services, this translates to clean lines, simple shapes, and a focus on the essentials. 2D design fits perfectly within this aesthetic, offering a straightforward and uncluttered approach that appeals to modern consumers.
Cost Efficiency and Accessibility
One of the major advantages of 2D design is its cost efficiency. Without the need for expensive software or advanced technical skills, 2D design is more accessible to a wider range of designers. This democratization of design allows for greater creativity and innovation, as more people can participate in the process.
Environmental Impact
In addition to being cost-effective, 2D design is also more environmentally friendly. By reducing the need for physical prototypes and minimizing material waste, 2D design aligns with the growing demand for sustainable practices in the furniture industry. It’s a small but significant step towards reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
Understanding 2D Furniture Design
What is 2D Furniture Design?
2D furniture design involves creating flat, two-dimensional representations of furniture pieces. These designs often focus on the front, side, and top views, providing a clear and simple visual of the piece. While less detailed than 3D models, 2D designs are highly effective in conveying the essential elements of a piece, making them a popular choice for minimalist and modern furniture.
Characteristics of 2D Furniture Design
The defining characteristic of 2D furniture design is its simplicity. These designs strip away unnecessary details, focusing instead on clean lines and geometric shapes. The result is a minimalist aesthetic that is both modern and timeless, offering a fresh take on traditional furniture design.
Tools and Techniques in 2D Design
While 2D design may seem simpler than 3D, it still requires a good understanding of design principles and techniques. Common tools for 2D design include Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, and even hand-drawing techniques. These tools allow designers to create precise and clean designs that can easily be translated into physical products.
Notable Examples of 2D Furniture
Some of the most iconic pieces of modern furniture are based on 2D design principles. The Eames Lounge Chair, for example, is known for its clean lines and simple shapes, making it a perfect example of 2D design in action. Other notable examples include the Barcelona Chair by Mies van der Rohe and the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer, both of which emphasize simplicity and functionality.
Comparing 3D and 2D Furniture Design
Design Complexity
When comparing 3D and 2D furniture design, one of the most obvious differences is the level of complexity. 3D designs are often more intricate, with a focus on detail and realism. In contrast, 2D designs prioritize simplicity and clarity, offering a more streamlined and accessible approach.
Detailing and Precision
While 3D designs allow for greater precision and detail, 2D designs excel in their ability to convey the essence of a piece with minimal information. This makes 2D designs particularly effective for certain types of furniture, such as those that rely on clean lines and geometric shapes.
Production Processes
The production process for 3D and 2D designs also differs significantly. 3D designs often require advanced manufacturing techniques, such as CNC machining or 3D printing, to bring the designs to life. 2D designs, on the other hand, can be produced using more traditional methods, such as woodworking or metalworking, making them more accessible to smaller workshops and independent designers.
Consumer Preferences
Ultimately, the choice between 3D and 2D design comes down to consumer preferences. While some consumers may prefer the complexity and realism of 3D designs, others may be drawn to the simplicity and elegance of 2D designs. The growing popularity of minimalism suggests that 2D design may have a bright future in the furniture industry.
The Artistic Expression in 2D Furniture Design
Simplicity as an Art Form
In 2D furniture design, simplicity is not just a design choice; it’s an art form. By focusing on the essentials and eliminating unnecessary details, 2D design allows the inherent beauty of the materials and forms to shine through. This approach results in furniture that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing, offering a timeless appeal that transcends trends.
Geometric Patterns and Shapes
One of the key elements of 2D design is the use of geometric patterns and shapes. These simple yet striking designs can create a powerful visual impact, turning a basic piece of furniture into a work of art. Whether it’s a table with a circular top or a chair with a square backrest, geometric shapes add a sense of order and harmony to the design.
The Influence of Culture and History
2D furniture CAD design is also heavily influenced by culture and history. Many modern 2D designs draw inspiration from traditional Japanese furniture, which is known for its simplicity and focus on natural materials. Other influences include the Bauhaus movement, which emphasized function over form, and Scandinavian design, which is characterized by clean lines and minimalism.

Unlocking Persuasion's Secret Sauce: The ELM Artistry
Tumblr media
Let's dive right into the fascinating world of persuasion and how the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) can be your secret sauce for crafting irresistibly persuasive appeals. Buckle up; we're taking a creative spin on this theory!
As a media visionary or storytelling wizard, I have a message to deliver, a product to sell, or an idea to spread, and I want it to stick like peanut butter on bread. That's where the ELM theory comes in. Let's discuss the necessary steps to take in order to get the job done.
Step 1: Know Your Audience
Before launching your campaign, delve into your audience's mindset. Are they enthusiastic and ready for change, or are they still exploring their options? Your ELM compass begins with comprehending their motivation and information-processing capabilities.
Step 2: The Central Route
Embark upon the central route when addressing an audience fully dedicated to your mission. Employ your analytical skills to craft a message firmly rooted in verifiable facts, compelling statistics, and rational arguments. Lay down the logical foundation, enrich it with the wisdom of experts, and spin narratives that grip emotions and intellect.
Step 3: The Peripheral Route
When your audience requires more time to embrace your message, embark on the peripheral route of persuasion. This path revolves around evoking emotions and leveraging visuals, celebrity endorsements, and unforgettable slogans to make your message irresistibly charming.
Step 4: Building Trust and Consistency
In the world of persuasion, consistency is king. Make sure your message aligns with your brand or cause consistently. And don't forget to add credibility at any point – nothing turns people off faster than shady sources or conflicting messages.
Campaigns are not a one-and-done; they should constantly evolve like your audience and technology. Run tests, gather data, and be open to change. What worked yesterday may not work tomorrow, so be ready to tweak and refine the approach. ELM serves as a valuable tool for crafting persuasive appeals. Whether appealing to emotions or logic, remember that persuasion is an ongoing process, and ELM is your guide in refining your approach.
Now, put your knowledge to work!

Being Persuasive With The Elaboration Likelihood Model
Tumblr media
The elaboration likelihood model was created by Richard E. Petty and John T. Cacioppo. The model attempts to explain why people process stimuli differently. According to the model, people process a message with either high or low elaboration, which in turn leads them to either use the central or peripheral route in processing the content of a message. In turn this effects if the person remembers or accepts the message.
In the best case scenario, everyone would always be using the central route to process messages. This would mean they were analyzing arguments and examining their own thoughts and feelings toward it. But in reality this cannot happen all the time. There are hundreds of things which could keep someone from properly analyzing any given message. These things are referred to as target characteristics.
When crafting our communications we must accept that we have no control over the audience’s target characteristics. This includes information such as a person’s mood or intelligence, essentially everything about them. So while we can try to target specific people or plan our communications to appear at optimal times or places, when it comes down to it we cannot guarantee our audience will have ideal target characteristics.
Simply put, if someone is in a bad mood, doing something they dislike and already don’t care about your message, they are unlikely to process what you say through the central route. Instead, you will need to find other less analytical ways to catch their attention. On the flip side, if someone slept great last night, just got some good news and is curious about your subject then they are more likely to pay attention and examine everything you say.
To counter this, we should try to create our messages in a way that is most likely to appeal to people both on the central and peripheral routes. For example, if we wish to sell a product, then we should appeal to the central route by showcasing the superiority of our product, including details like price, reliability, and positive reviews. We can simultaneously target people along the peripheral routes by showing off products qualities such as style or neat gimmicks which make the product seem cooler or utilize attractive and charismatic sales people.

The serene beauty of Vermont may seem worlds away from the hustle and bustle of insurance shopping. Yet, acquiring the best and cheapest car insurance in Vermont requires a bit of effort, especially when seeking a balance between cost and comprehensive coverage. Evaluating the Cheapest Car Insurance Providers in Vermont A variety of insurance providers cater to Vermont drivers, each with its unique cost structures. Some of the cheapest car insurance companies in Vermont, according to WalletHub, Bankrate, and NerdWallet are: State Farm: Around $49 per month Geico: Approximately $50 per month Auto-Owners: About $51 per month Liberty Mutual: Roughly $52 per month USAA: Close to $43 per month (specifically for military members and their families) However, the cost can vary depending on the source of information. Thus, comparing quotes from multiple insurers is essential, as previously discussed in our articles on the cheapest car insurance in California and cheapest car insurance in Florida. Location's Impact on Insurance Rates The place you call home in Vermont can impact your insurance premiums significantly. Cities like Burlington might have higher rates compared to more rural locations. This pattern isn't unique to Vermont, as our article on the cheapest car insurance in Georgia further elaborates. Balancing Cost and Coverage While hunting for the cheapest policy, one might risk being underinsured. Striking the right balance between cost and coverage is crucial, a concept we detailed in our article on the cheapest car insurance in New York. Like New York, Vermont mandates minimum coverages for drivers. Other Factors Affecting Your Car Insurance Rates Several other factors can influence the cost of your car insurance in Vermont, such as: Your age: Typically, drivers under 25 pay more for car insurance than their older counterparts. Your driving record: A clean record generally means lower premiums compared to drivers with a history of accidents or tickets. The type of car you drive: Your car's make and model can significantly impact insurance costs. Your coverage limits: Higher coverage limits usually translate to higher insurance premiums. Delving Deeper: How Vehicle Type Influences Insurance Rates The car you drive is more than just a mode of transport. It's also a significant factor in determining your insurance premiums. If you have a sports car, you'll likely pay higher rates than if you own a minivan, as discussed in our coverage on the cheapest car insurance in Texas. In Vermont, having a vehicle with advanced safety features could potentially decrease your premiums. Additionally, insurance companies look at the car's age, the cost to repair it, the likelihood of theft, and even the vehicle's color while deciding the premium. Exploring Available Discounts Many insurance providers offer discounts to attract and retain customers. Such rebates might be available for good drivers, students with excellent grades, or people who've taken defensive driving courses. Some providers in Vermont even offer discounts to members of certain organizations or professions. For more on this, you might find our feature on the cheapest car insurance in Michigan insightful. Age and Driving Experience As we've seen, age plays a significant role in determining car insurance costs. As a rule, the more driving experience you have, the lower your insurance premiums tend to be. However, after a certain age, the rates start to climb again. Young drivers, typically under 25, have higher rates because they're considered high-risk. Older drivers, particularly those above 65, might also see their rates increase, as our cheapest car insurance in Pennsylvania article discusses. Does Your Driving Record Affect Insurance Rates? The short answer is yes. If you've maintained a clean driving record, you're likely to pay less for car insurance. The opposite is also true.
Drivers with a history of accidents, traffic violations, or DUI charges tend to pay more. If you're wondering how speeding tickets affect your insurance rates, our coverage of the cheapest car insurance in New Jersey offers a detailed perspective. Mandatory Car Insurance Requirements in Vermont It's crucial to understand the car insurance requirements in your state. Like other states, Vermont mandates certain minimum coverage for all drivers. As per Vermont law, drivers must carry: Bodily Injury Liability: $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident Property Damage Liability: $10,000 per accident Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage: $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident To know more about how these limits work, check out our deep dive into the cheapest car insurance in Colorado. What To Do After a Car Accident in Vermont If you're involved in an accident in Vermont, it's crucial to remain calm and take certain steps: Make sure everyone is safe and call the authorities if necessary. Exchange information with the other driver(s), including names, contact information, insurance information, and vehicle details. Document the scene and take photographs if possible. Report the incident to your insurance provider as soon as possible. These steps are similar to the ones we discussed in our feature on the cheapest car insurance in New York. Tips to Get the Cheapest Car Insurance in Vermont Finding affordable car insurance in Vermont requires some homework. Here are some tips to help you get started: Shop Around: Different insurers offer different rates. Our studies on the cheapest car insurance in Illinois and the cheapest car insurance in South Carolina emphasize this point. Maintain a Clean Driving Record: Safe driving not only protects you and others on the road but also helps keep your insurance premiums low. Bundle Your Policies: If you have multiple insurance policies (home, auto, life), bundling them with the same provider could save you money. Take Advantage of Discounts: Don't leave any money on the table. Ask your provider about available discounts. By taking into account all the factors that we've discussed in this article, you'll be better prepared to find the best, cheapest car insurance that Vermont has to offer. Remember, cheap doesn't necessarily mean good. Prioritize coverage that meets your needs and offers you the best value for your money. In conclusion, finding the cheapest car insurance in Vermont, or anywhere else, involves a blend of research, understanding your specific needs, and shopping around for the best deal. #SportyConnect

Used cars for sale Mumbai- A Quick Guide to Selling Your Car Efficiently
Selling a car can often be a daunting and time-consuming task. However, with proper planning and preparation, you can streamline the process, avoid lengthy negotiations, and minimize unnecessary delays. If you're looking to quickly convert your car into cash, consider the following factors that will help you navigate the selling process smoothly.
Gather the Necessary Documents
Before anything else, ensure that you have all the required documents in order. This includes the registration certificate (RC), insurance policy, pollution under control certificate, and any other relevant paperwork. It is advisable to check with your local Regional Transport Office (RTO) to determine the specific documents needed for selling your car. Once you have this information, create a checklist and ensure that you have these documents readily available for a swift ownership transfer process.
Price Your Car Appropriately
Determining the right selling price is crucial to attracting potential buyers. Begin by conducting thorough research on the target market, as well as the current value of your car. Consider how much you are willing to negotiate on the price and take into account factors such as the car's condition, mileage, and any additional features or modifications. To gauge the current worth of your car, you can utilize various resources such as online car selling platforms, classified ads, local garage mechanics, or even dealerships. Among these options, online car selling portals offer the most convenience. For instance, websites like Cardekho.com provide a quick and accurate estimate of your car's value. By selecting your car's model, inputting the mileage, and providing your contact information, you can receive an estimate within minutes. Cardekho.com boasts an extensive network of more than 1,600 channel partners, ensuring that you receive a fair price for your car. Once you have obtained an estimate, you can narrow down a realistic price range that you are willing to accept.
Enhance the Visual Appeal
The appearance and overall condition of your car play a significant role in influencing potential buyers. Invest time and effort into making your car look its best. Begin with a thorough wash and vacuum to enhance its overall demeanor. Pay attention to small details that buyers are likely to notice, such as ensuring there are no major body scratches or unpleasant odors inside the cabin. Restoring the sheen of the interior can be easily achieved by using a good quality wax. You need not spend a fortune on elaborate repairs; even minor fixes can go a long way in improving the overall presentation of your car.
Market Effectively
When advertising your car for sale, it is important to capture the attention of potential buyers. Take high-quality photographs of your car from various angles and use the best-looking images to create an appealing advertisement. Visuals are a powerful tool that can attract potential buyers and increase the likelihood of receiving good offers. While you may receive inquiries from multiple sources, prioritize genuine proposals even if they require some negotiation on your preset price. Selling your car through reputable online car portals like Cardekho.com provides a convenient method to avoid fraudulent activities and secure legitimate responses for your selling proposal.
Finalize the Deal
While it is important to stand firm on your initial price, be open to negotiations during the selling process. Allow potential buyers to make an offer, and if the price is reasonable and aligns with your expectations, seize the opportunity to close the deal promptly. Avoid unnecessary delays or suspending the transaction midway, as this may discourage potential buyers and prolong the selling process.
By considering these factors and implementing the necessary steps, you can significantly expedite the process of selling your car. With adequate preparation, strategic pricing, and effective marketing, you increase the chances of attracting genuine buyers who are willing to meet your terms. Remember to remain flexible during negotiations while also safeguard your own interests. Selling your car efficiently requires a combination of knowledge, preparation, and effective communication. Follow these additional tips to ensure a smooth and successful selling experience:
Be Transparent and Provide Accurate Information
When communicating with potential buyers, be honest and transparent about your car's condition, any past accidents or repairs, and its maintenance history. Provide accurate information regarding the mileage, service records, and any outstanding loans or liabilities associated with the vehicle. Transparency builds trust and helps potential buyers make informed decisions.
Prepare a Compelling Listing Description
When creating a listing for your car, craft a compelling description that highlights its unique features, benefits, and any recent upgrades or improvements. Use descriptive language to paint a vivid picture of your car's condition and emphasize its selling points. Mention key features such as advanced safety systems, fuel efficiency, entertainment options, or spaciousness. A well-written description can generate more interest and attract serious buyers.
Respond Promptly to Inquiries
When potential buyers reach out with questions or inquiries, respond promptly and professionally. Provide accurate and detailed answers to their queries and offer additional information or photos if needed. Being responsive and helpful demonstrates your commitment and seriousness as a seller, encouraging potential buyers to engage further.
Arrange Safe Test Drives
If a potential buyer expresses interest and requests a test drive, prioritize their safety while protecting your own interests. Verify their identity and driver's license before allowing them to test drive the car. Consider meeting in a public place or bringing along a friend or family member as an extra precaution. Ensure that you have adequate insurance coverage to protect yourself and the buyer during the test drive.
Negotiate Effectively
Negotiation is an inevitable part of selling a car. Be open to reasonable offers and try to find a middle ground that satisfies both parties. Consider any repair or maintenance costs that the buyer might incur and adjust your asking price accordingly. Set your lowest acceptable price in advance to avoid making hasty decisions during negotiations. Maintain a respectful and professional tone throughout the negotiation process to build trust and goodwill.
Complete the Sale Properly
Once you and the buyer have agreed on a price, it's important to complete the necessary paperwork accurately. Transfer the ownership of the car by filling out the relevant forms and submitting them to the appropriate authorities. Cancel your car insurance policy and inform the relevant agencies about the change in ownership to avoid any legal or financial liabilities. Provide the buyer with all the necessary documents, including the car's service history, spare keys, and warranty details, if applicable.
In conclusion, selling your car efficiently requires careful planning, research, and effective communication. By following these guidelines and implementing best practices, you can increase your chances of selling your car quickly and successfully. Remember to prioritize safety, transparency, and professionalism throughout the selling process. With the right approach, you can turn your car into cash while ensuring a positive selling experience for both you and the buyer

How To Be More Persuasive — Is It An Art, Science, or Skill? And can you learn it?
Persuasion.
Jane Austen wrote about it in her 1816 romance novel. Aristotle guided people on how to master it 2000 plus years ago.
And still, people are obsessed with learning about it today. Prestigious companies like Forbes publish articles to help teach people how to get what they want more often. Businesses pay top dollar for marketing that uses persuasion tactics. Students seek out new persuasive writing strategies.
I suppose this is one of those things taught in school we actually do use. So here is probably a good time to give a shout-out to all the literature teachers who have to deal with teenagers grumbling at them.
And yes, I sometimes was one. I must admit.
Tumblr media
But what does science think of persuasion, and how do we achieve it?
The Elaboration Likelihood Model
The name of the elaboration likelihood model might sound daunting, but really it's just a way to explain how people can be persuaded to change their attitudes.
This theory looks at how attitudes are formed and changed through messaging and pinpoints three critical characteristics of how we can be persuaded to adopt or reject a specific view.
Messaging Characteristics focus on the message itself, analyzing things like the arguments flow, if it was logical, and if it was written and delivered well.
We've all been to a meeting, assembly, or speech where we found ourselves looking at the walls rather than focusing on the person speaking.
Tumblr media
Source Characteristics focus on cues we pick up from the speakers, their sources, and the physical environment. Questions we might find ourselves asking consciously or unconsciously are:
Does the speaker seem trustworthy? Are they appropriately educated on the topic? Where did they get this information from? Is it credible? Is this venue fitting for the conversation, or does it feel out of place?
The last influencing characteristic is Target Characteristic, which looks at the audience. Many individual factors can affect how a listener receives a message. Their mood, education, energy, stress level, and so much more.
Tumblr media
So these are the things that influence how persuasion occurs. But what about how interested you are? Someone could have great message and oratory skills, and if you couldn't care less…well, you might as well not be listening.
To Care Or Not To Care
All the information we just went over has to get filtered and processed. The elaboration likelihood model tells us there are two routes we can take to achieve this.
The Central Route applies to active audiences. These are people who've sought out the information, are paying attention, and think critically about it. When we adopt an attitude while using the Central Route, the message is stronger, and we're more likely to embrace a lasting attitude change from it.
On the other hand, we have the Peripheral Route. Audiences processing information through this route are less interested and involved with the message. Attitude changes made through this route are less likely to be lasting ones.
The Peripheral Route isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. While some people might perceive this as flakey or lacking conviction, this route allows us to change our minds and actions given new and improved information.
Personally, I think that's pretty important because —let's face it —we don't always make the right choice the first, second, or even third time around.
Tumblr media
Can You Be More Persuasive?
People have a lot of reasons to be persuasive, but, as you can see, there are many factors that play into someone actually being persuaded.
I myself love writing, and while not every piece I write needs to persuade someone (just like the one you're reading, which is meant to inform), it's still an important part of my craft.
For me, reviewing the elaboration likelihood model has reaffirmed the importance of knowing my audience. It's such a simple but critical rule.
Everyone can't be your audience. Influences like topic interest, timing, and resonance affect who you might persuade. However, starting here seems very important to me.
Knowing your audience helps you understand how they want to be spoken to, what language inspires them, how they expect you to look and act around them, what venues they might prefer, and what information matters to them.
Knowledge of your audience can help you lead with your best foot forward and combat some issues that can arise in the variable nature of the messaging, source, and target characteristics we discussed above.
Tumblr media
But humans have been trying to figure out persuasion since ancient times. As times and technology change, forms of persuasion and how they look evolve as well.
So I'd love to see what you took away from this theory.
Leave a comment below, so hopefully, we can all learn from each other and be more persuasive.

Routes and Destinations
I never want to meet any of the celebrities I like. I am always afraid that they will never meet up to my expectations.
So when I read about the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) and the use of celebrity endorsements by marketers to influence their audiences' attitudes through the peripheral route, I questioned the tactic. I also asked how this might differ from the two-step flow theory, where the celebrity endorser acts as the opinion leader.
The Elaboration Likelihood Model postulates that there are two routes when it comes to persuasive communication. The central route relies on the audience members' prior experiences and knowledge. Knowing that the audience might not have previous exposure to their product, they might depend on a celebrity endorsement to deliver the message.
Tumblr media
Textbook Figure of Elaboration Likelihood Model
In my last blog post, I mentioned The West Wing. After 9/11, Washington DC's tourism industry suffered. The city's tourism leaders enlisted the help of the cast of The West Wing to promote DC as a safe tourist destination. The ad campaign featured several cast members, including Martin Sheen, who portrays the show's president.
The campaign spoke to me through the central route as I completed my undergraduate studies in DC. The campaign also worked on the peripheral route as I admire the actor (though I still don't want to meet him) and like the fictitious president he portrayed. ELM asserts that the central and peripheral routes are not mutually exclusive. This ad served as a practical example of ELM. The model holds up well, especially for those individuals like me who find the messages relevant.
I tried to find a video clip on YouTube, but the campaign predates this day and age when most everything lives somewhere on the internet.
I am amazed at how well the internet, notably Google and Facebook, serves up ads in my searches or feeds. Today's media practitioners have many tools available to expand their reach directly and enlist their loyal consumers to help advocate for their brand. They can also target those that have traveled to that destination or a similar one in the past. They can even serve up ads based on sites the users have previously visited.
Tumblr media
The screenshot above is a Facebook ad that I find in my feed regularly. I assume that Facebook already knows I am a Marriott elite loyalty member. Even if I was not actively looking to book a hotel stay, the ad works on my subconscious (or periphery) as the images serve as aspirations of possible vacation destinations.
If I were that media practitioner, I would take full advantage of technological tools such as targeted ads. Targeted ads demonstrates the central route as the recipient of the ad has some knowledge or at least affinity for the product. Depending on the product, service or cause, I might consider a celebrity endorsement as long as the budget allows. Just as long as it's not Martin Sheen. I don't want to chance meeting him.
