We need an entire overhaul of our government and election process.
First. Drain the swamp. Get rid of literally EVERYONE who has been in politics for more than 2 years or so.
Eliminate modern campaigning practices. Give all candidates equal exposure to the public. Make information on their missions and campaign promises easily available. No campaigning outside of official channels.
Absolutely no stock participation for anyone holding public office. You enter public office and all existing stock they own is paused. No gains, no losses.
Term limits! Career politicians should not be a thing.
Create a way to impeach officials who don’t make good faith efforts to fulfill their campaign promises, or who don’t accomplish at least 60%-75% of them. Campaign promises should be possible, and genuine.
Simplify the entire government. Legislative bills should never exceed 5 pages of text in length. They should be solely about one issue. No hidden clauses or completely unrelated content.
Simplify the tax code. Flat sales tax on everything, with exemptions for people on Social Security and Medicaid. Make filing taxes a thing of the past. A sales tax is a true equitable tax, because those with more money will pay more because they buy more.
Businesses making north of 1M per year should have a flat 20% tax on net profits, and a cap on compensation ratios. Whatever your lowest paid employee makes, your CEO’s ENTIRE compensation package cannot exceed 200 times that amount. Also no stockholder can take more than that same amount out of the company in any given year. Equates to about 1.5M$ for any company paying federal minimum wage.
Start putting our tax money towards common sense solutions to our problems. Start with converting our entire interstate system to solar panel road ways. Road ways that are made out of hexagonal shaped solar panel tiles that illuminate the road ways, heat to melt ice and snow, and when any one tile breaks it can be replaced without having to spend months on costly repairs. This amount of energy production would nearly eliminate our energy concerns.

Fair and democratic elections must prohibit corporate sponsorships and lobby groups, and limit contributions from wealthy donors. Campaign ads, speeches and debates should be subject to real time fact checking. Elected officials must be accountable to their constituents, not voting against their interests to prop up corporate oligarchies.

Electoral Bonds Downfall: Key Points & What Lies Ahead
Electoral Bonds Downfall: Key Points & What Lies Ahead
In a landmark decision on February 15, 2024, the Supreme Court of India declared the Electoral Bond Scheme unconstitutional. This scheme, introduced in 2018, aimed to bring transparency to anonymous political donations through bearer bonds purchased from designated banks. However, the Court found the scheme flawed and incompatible with several fundamental principles. Arguments against the…

"The South Australian premier, Peter Malinauskas, has announced plans to ban political donations from state elections, paving the way for nation-leading electoral reforms.
The state’s electoral amendment bill announced on Wednesday [June 12, 2024] night will ban electoral donations and gifts to registered political parties, members of parliament and candidates. The state will provide funding to allow parties and candidates to contest elections, run campaigns and promote political ideas.
Malinauskas said his bill would put South Australia on the “cusp of becoming a world leader in ending the nexus between money and political power”.
“We want money out of politics. We know this is not easy. These reforms may well face legal challenge,” Malinauskas said.
“But we are determined to deliver them, with this bill to be introduced in the parliament in the near future.”
In a subtle challenge to his federal and state counterparts, the premier told Guardian Australia he thought it was “something that democracies everywhere should be pursuing”.
The Albanese government pledged to introduce spending and donation caps, and truth in political advertising laws, as revealed by Guardian Australia after the 2022 federal election and confirmed by a parliamentary inquiry that reported last July.
The special minister of state, Don Farrell, said last month an agreement between the major parties and the crossbench had not yet been reached. An amendment bill is still expected by the middle of the year.
In order to level the playing field for newly created parties and independent candidates, the South Australia bill will allow candidates to receive donations up to $2,700, although they will remain subject to campaign spending caps.
Those spending caps have been set at $100,000, multiplied by the number of candidates up to a maximum of $500,000.
If the bill is passed, a registered political party will be entitled to a one-off payment of $200,000 before 31 August 2026. Whichever is lower out of $700,000 or the number of party members of parliament multiplied by $47,000 will also be given to parties for operational funding.
Membership fees will be allowed to continue but will be capped at $100 or less a year.
To deter attempts to circumvent the proposed changes, a maximum penalty of $50,000 or 10 years’ imprisonment will apply.
The guide acknowledges the proposal would lead to a rise in the cost of South Australia’s electoral system, but says a tightening of expenditure and party registration rules will keep costs to a minimum.
The Albanese government is under crossbench pressure to introduce electoral reforms before the next federal election.
Lower house independents, including Kate Chaney, Zali Steggall, the Greens, David Pocock, Lidia Thorpe and the Jacqui Lambie Network, joined forces to introduce a bill for fair and transparent elections in March [2024].
The bill contained a suite of reforms including truth-in-political advertising, a ban on donations from socially harmful industries including fossil fuels, and tightening the definition of gifts to capture major party fundraisers, including dinners and business forums."
-via The Guardian, March 18, 2024
#okay so I do consider it important that this would still allow independent donations of up to $2700#but like with that included? fantastic proposal#well maybe pending the amount of some of those spending caps idk#but otherwise yeah let's all do it#australia#south australia#peter malinauskas#politics#money in politics#election reform#auspol#political reform#political corruption#good news#hope

Call your dogs home! - Urgent Action Needed to Stop Humanitarian Crisis in Palestine
12 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
As a concerned American and one of your constituents, I am writing to express my PROFOUND HORROR and OUTRAGE regarding our recent decision to cut off direct humanitarian funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine. This decision, coupled with our complicity in arming their oppressors and enabling their attackers, is a grave betrayal of our moral values and responsibilities. The implications of denying aid to UNRWA are dire and inhumane. It puts the lives of Palestinian refugees in Gaza at even greater risk, especially in light of the recent findings by the International Court of Justice suggesting the plausibility of genocide being committed in the region. The suffering inflicted upon innocent civilians through starvation and deprivation is a form of collective punishment that only serves to deepen the atrocities and reinforces the urgent need for intervention. I implore you and all our elected officials to take immediate and decisive action to address this crisis. I urge you to vehemently oppose any appropriations bill that would extend the ban on UNRWA funding. Instead, I urge you to advocate for the reinstatement of UNRWA funding, the promotion of a permanent ceasefire, and the cessation of any further weapons or funding to the Israeli military. The lives of countless innocent individuals hang in the balance, and failure to act decisively will only lead to further bloodshed and suffering. As your constituent, I urge you to stand on the side of justice, compassion, and humanity. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue. I eagerly await your response and trust that you will take immediate and meaningful action to address the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Call your dogs home!

Implement Ranked-Choice Voting & Election Reforms For Vote Integrity
22 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am writing to urge your immediate action on introducing and passing ranked-choice voting (RCV) and other vital election reforms at both the federal and state levels. As a concerned constituent and advocate for democratic principles, I believe that these reforms are essential to improving our electoral processes and ensuring fair and representative governance. Ranked-choice voting has proven effective in promoting democratic outcomes by enabling voters to express their preferences more fully and ensuring that elected candidates enjoy broad support from the electorate. RCV mitigates wasted votes, reduces the spoiler effect, and fosters more inclusive and issue-focused campaigns. In addition to advocating for ranked-choice voting, I strongly support comprehensive election reforms, including campaign finance reform, gerrymandering reform, and initiatives to enhance voter access and participation. These reforms are critical to strengthening our democracy and restoring trust in our electoral system. The implementation of Ranked-Choice Voting is a crucial step towards enhancing our democratic process. RCV, which allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference, ensures that elected officials have majority support, eliminates the spoiler effect, and encourages positive campaigning. This system is already in use in several U.S. cities and countries like Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Alaska recently became the second state to adopt RCV for statewide offices, following Maine's lead. It is time to consider this reform at both federal and state levels to ensure our electoral systems reflect the diversity of our nation and empower all voices. Therefore, I urge you to introduce and support legislation that promotes RCV and other election reforms. We must recognize that Americans are more than a two-party system. Let's take meaningful steps to ensure our electoral systems reflect the diversity of our nation and empower all voices. Thank you for considering my perspective and taking decisive action to improve our electoral processes. I stand ready to support your efforts in advancing these important reforms.

Incorrect, the fact that Biden has dropped out and a candidate with history of supporting medicare for all and being more receptive to a ceasefire in the I/P conflict has made me go from "I cannot morally support the Democratic nominee" to "I am voting for the Democratic nominee despite the fact she isn't perfect in every respect." I'm really happy this played out. The Dems for the most part abandoned the old Obama platform and it feels like its possible an actual progressive agenda could come to pass in my lifetime.
Kamala 2024!
If you weren't going to vote Democratic in this election before Biden dropped out you're a dorkass loser who does not care about any of the issues you're yammering about here and also a fundamentally bad person, and I hope you get run over by a bus.
But you got one thing right in all of this gibberish, Kamala 2024.
#personal#answered#anonymous#i mean let's be clear here no president is gonna attempt to be progressive ever again within my lifetime#because joe biden tried to do like 25% of that and got ZERO fucking credit#he did so much on healthcare on reform on loans on so many social issues and for all his litany of failings on i/p#he has been distinctly harsher on netanyahu than a good chunk of dems and certainly the entire republican party#for the first time since i was four we are not involved in any wars as americans and that is thanks to joe biden#but the thing is that he gets no credit for any of it!#him pulling out of afghanistan caused his approvals to tank in a way that never recovered#and leftists gave him FUCK ALL for it#they gave him nothing they just continued whining that even tho he cancelled a bajillion in student loans#he didn't actually cancel a QUADRILLION dollars so both parties are the same and voting is the most arduous task known to man#no democrat who is running is going to forget that catering to leftist/progressive policies gets them zero leeway with those supporters#that it not only tanks numbers but you still get constant haranguing about it anyway#so they're not gonna do it#we are gonna get fuckall for at least a good fifty years#and anything we get will be utterly in SPITE of people like you anon it will happen in spite of everything you've done#mostly because of people like me and mine who understand that voting is the bare minimum#and that for the democratic process to work the way you want it to you need to participate and not pitch a fucking fit#like a four year old who was told they can't go to disney this weekend#like i know you ratfuckers are happy this played out because this is all a game to you and you don't actually care#but that's why i've got zero faith in you people and why i'm glad it's my kind of folks#actual die hard democrats who have always been hardliners for supporting democrats in every possible election#who are picking up the slack and donating to harris and supporting her agenda#which is the exact same as biden's because she's his vice president and they share they same platform#because that's what they were both running on! twice!#anyway fuck you please feel free to find a necktie and test how tall your doorframe is

Whenever you see anyone crowing about election fraud and election security, there's a question to consider:
Do you support democracy and free, fair elections because you think democracy and free, fair elections are a societal good; or do you support democracy because sometimes the candidates and ballot measures you like win?

Hi it's me again the person who sent the newspaper article after the woman bill in April
I come with more news
According to my mum (and she's pretty smart) the UK is the only country in Europe where Tesla sales went up during the month of March... they went down literally everywhere else...
And we just had a bunch of local elections as well, and the Reform party had an astonishing amount of victories... that's the far right wing one

That's a screenshot from BBC news, the light blue one is Reform, you can see how much they went up and how much Labour (centrist/left wing, shown in red) went down.
The UK's falling too...
yeah I saw this all happening live. I suppose my major "we aren't as fucked as we appear" points are these
council seats don't count in for cities and metro areas bc theyre covered by mayorships, and its usually people in cities and metro areas who votes labour green or lib dem. Most mayoral districts are controlled by labour atm
Of the people who voted Reform, as you can see by the numbers, almost all of them came from previous conservative voters, not from Labour voters switching sides. It's a party shift but doesn't necessarily represent a major ideological shift
also by the numbers, most people who previously voted labour voted Lib Dem, and the Lib Dems are more left wing and progressive than Labour, quite considerably so
Of the people who didn't vote Labour, most will have done so bc theyre unhappy that the government hasn't fixed the country, not bc they are resistant to any progressive ideas
Greens got more seats than last time, and of the seats that weren't up for election, greens hold a lot of them, more than reform have total [859 across all councils I believe]
So yes, it is confusing and nasty to look at, and I'm not saying we shouldn't be worried. I'm just trying to not do Reform's marketing for them. They want people to say they've won.

Reform sweep at the council elections

#every ward in my town has gone reform by a long margin and the county is almost definitely going reform overall 😥#it makes me so sad that this is where the country is going and it makes me fear for the next general election#(don't get me wrong our current gov are terrible but having more reform mps would be so so much worse)#(for the non-brits: reform's whole platform is just anti woke)#talking#uk politics
