Beacon

I’ve started posting a new fic! It’s called Beacon, and you can read the first chapter here. I’m going to try to keep to a weekly posting schedule.

Summary:

When Elio Perlman transfers to Beacon College, he wonders if he’s made the right decision. It’s always cold, the classes are difficult, and his roommate is the absolute worst. His regrets and worries quickly subside when he meets Oliver Abrams in the library. Oliver is smart, funny, warm, handsome, and very interested in Elio, but Elio soon finds that things may not be as perfect as they seem. While he is falling in love and following his heart, Elio has to swiftly make life-altering decisions, and learns whether it is better to speak or to die.

This story is going to take some fun twists and turns, and I hope you’ll enjoy both the ride and the final destination.

(Also, as a note, I’m still working on Somewhere in North Brooklyn and Next of Kin. Here’s the mood board for a story I’m working on, tentatively titled Body Talk. I’m hoping to post the first chapter in the next week or two! (Also, side note, I am still very much working on Next of Kin and Somewhere in North Brooklyn. Those will both have updates very soon!)

Sneak Preview:

Oliver Fine has everything: good looks, brains, popularity and athletic skills. But he also has a big secret that he’s keeping from his basketball teammates: he’s gay. Surrounded by a culture of toxic masculinity in the locker room, he fully intended to stay in the closet until college, but that plan comes to a staggering halt when he meets Elio.

Elio Perlman is the percussion section leader of the Lehigh Valley Academy Marching Band. He spends his time in the band room, biding his time until he can go to college in a city next year, away from the suburb he has quickly outgrown.

When tone-deaf and rhythm-deficient Oliver is forced to join the marching band because he needs a music credit to graduate, Elio is assigned to teach him the ropes of band and the basics of music. Though Elio is simultaneously annoyed and charmed by Oliver’s big personality, the two become fast friends, or perhaps more than friends.

The security line to enter the Lower Manhattan Supreme Courthouse was three blocks long. Elio had heard that the lines were bad, and he'd given himself a half hour, but he didn't realize it was JFK Airport TSA line on the day before Christmas bad.

On this uncharacteristically warm February afternoon, Elio Perlman and his best friend Marzia stood in the window of Booklyn, taking down the Valentine’s Day display.

I stood at the mirror with my younger son, Victor, adjusting the boy’s tie and fixing his wavy brown hair. “You look so handsome in that suit, your mother would have loved to see this,” I said, wiping a stray tear from the corner of my eye.
