So far so good. I added some details to all characters with their Uniforms prior to their appearance in the series. The latest one that I did was earlier prior to my summer holiday break. Surrealestate opens season 3, after a 3-year gap, with the Roman Ireland Agency still trying to replace Father Phil, Zooey, and August. Luke, Susan, and Clytemnestra Lomax continue to sell metaphysically engaged properties, with each episode bringing them another set of challenges which only they can handle.

The little guy above is Elvis the Elephant, who has been released from his watery grave and he is upset that he cannot get his revenge on Carl Roman. So, he’s set his sights on Carl’s son Luke.

Elvis currently inhabits the body of Mr. McNeil and has lured Luke to him under the pretense of selling his house. He nearly killed Luke in S3E2.

What a ride this season is going to be.

“Almost Always Wrong”

Hillbilly Holy Week continues with this swinging little number from Irish singer-songwriter Bap Kennedy’s sophomore effort Lonely Street. Released in 2000, it explores Kennedy’s relationship with his two musical idols - Elvis Presley and Hank Williams - by making a deep, meaningful record that sounds nothing like either. Not really, but you can tell where he’s coming from and you can tell he loves what he’s singing about. No idea what this particular banger has to do with either Hank or the King, but it’s rocking nonetheless.

Growing up in Belfast at the height of the Troubles, Kennedy went on to form the Irish rock group Energy Orchard. I confess, they never did much for me but they made a pretty big splash with music nerds in the UK. They had sort of a “Van Morrison refracted through a New Wave prism” sort of thing going. Unfortunately, commercial success eluded them and frontman Bap wound up doing business with Steve Earle, which is how I came across him.

His first record with Earle’s vanity project E-Squared, 1998′s Domestic Blues is outstanding and worth seeking out if you dig the above. After shucking ol’ Steve, Bap went on to work with Van the Man himself as well as Shane MacGowan and Mark Knopfler. Regrettably, Bap left this world in 2016 at the now-terrifyingly young age of 54 due to pancreatic cancer. Check him out.

The media and fans went crazy when photos of Cillian and Y/n were posted online. Everyone wanted to know more about them, every single detail. Y/n knew what the next interviews would be like.

“Cillian this, Cillian that. How did you meet? How did he ask you out? Are you getting married soon?”

Thank god she had some time off before she was hit with a bunch of questions regarding her relationship. She decided to spend that time with her family and Cillian. Her family immediately welcomed Cillian, which she was super glad about. Her mother was happy to see her daughter happy with someone.

After spending a week with her family, Cillian took her to Ireland to meet his family. Y/n was nervous, but once she met his mother, her nerves had disappeared. Of course every family visit was filled with embarrassing childhood stories and baby pictures. Cillian’s mom even promised Y/n she would send some to her without Cillian knowing.

When the couple got back to Y/n’s home in New York, the first thing they did was sleep. They loved meeting each other’s families, but the jet lag was starting to get to them. That night, Cillian fell asleep with only one thought on his mind.

He needed to find the perfect ring for her.

“Have I told you how much I love your food?” Cillian pressed a kiss to Y/n’s lips. It was a new day and Cillian knew that when Y/n made breakfast, he would spend the rest of his day happy.

“Only every day, but I love it when you remind me.” Y/n smiled as she placed several plates on the table with different foods then gave Cillian his own plate so he could pick out what he wanted to eat.

“Any plans for today?” He asked, sitting down next to her.

“Well I have an interview with vogue at three and a meeting with Holly. That’s pretty much my day, what about you?” Y/n questioned. She grabbed a piece of toast and started to eat it.

“Nothing too big, just asking the love of my life if she would accompany me to a movie premiere this weekend. I’m hoping she says yes.” He casually said which caused Y/n to choke on her toast.

“This weekend?”

“Unless you’re too busy. . ”

Y/n playfully rolled her eyes. “I’m never busy for you. Oh god. . I have to get a dress and do my hair and makeup! What am I going to wear? Shit, I have nothing.”

“Relax, darling. I have it covered. I asked Holly to get you a dress and take care of everything you need while we were in Ireland. I don’t want you to stress about anything.” Cillian told her.

Y/n didn’t know it was possible, but she fell more in love with Cillian. How could a person be so perfect? She was definitely the luckiest woman in the world.

“I really love you so much.” Y/n spoke.

“And I really love you too,” Cillian replied. “I’m going to tell you something crazy. I really want to marry you.”

Y/n scooted her chair closer to his. She smiled brightly and leaned in as if she was going to tell him a secret. “It doesn’t sound crazy because I want to marry you too.”

Then Cillian kissed her lightly. “You know what’s an even crazier idea?”

“I’m listening.” She cupped his cheek with her hand.

“How mad our families and friends, especially managers, would be if we went to Vegas and got married by some guy dressed as Elvis. Crazy, right?”

“So crazy…”

On April 14th, 1972, 53 years today, The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards topped the UK charts with Amazing Grace.

The story goes that an Army pipe major approached his regimental music director and asked him to make an arrangement for a spiritual hymn that went well on the pipes. The Pipe Major was Tony Crease, the tune was Amazing Grace and The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards were about to take the popular music world by storm

One of the band’s top fans is BBC disc jockey Alan Freeman. He said: ‘I don’t see it as the pop sound of the 70s but this record is the greatest.’

Amazing Grace topped the singles chart for 5 weeks, the RPM national singles chart in Canada for three weeks, and rose as high as number 11 in the US. It also topped the charts in Ireland and South Africa. In 2007, Universal records released a new album by the group, Spirit of the Glen, some of the album was recorded at a military base in Basra, my friend’s husband played in the band, which went on to be awarded a Classical Brit award.

It is also a controversial recording as it was a bit of a first, blending the pipes with military brass band instruments. It was a new sound, odd as that seems today. There was something of a controversy at the time; the Pipe Major of the regiment was summoned to Edinburgh Castle and rebuked for polluting the pipes with Sassenach metalwork.

In 2007, Universal records released a new album by the group, Spirit of the Glen.

Many artists have performed the song over the years, checking out my go to place fortunes, Allmusic, they list over 1,000 recordings – including re-releases and compilations! Some of the most well artists who have sung versions are; Judy Collins, Kenny Rogers, The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Rod Stewart, Boy George, Aretha Franklin, George Jones, Grace Kelly, Glen Campbell and Elvis Pressley.

Thoughts on Sinners(2025)

It was really good!

It's a movie about vampires set in the Jim Crow South that deals with racism, both explicitly and through the metaphor of vampires. The main antagonist is a white Irish vampire searching for the same connection to his culture that he sees in POC.

For a bit of context here, the majority of white southerners (especially poor white-southerners) emigrated from Ireland and Scotland to escape persecution under the British Empire. Over time, in an effort to be respected and seen as 'white' by their society in general, they gave up most of the culture and tradition that made up their ethnic identity and became viciously bigoted against black and indigenous people. In an attempt to conform to white hegemony they ended up sacrificing their sense of community. Some of them tried to form a new identity on the basis of white-supremacy. Some of them imitated black-culture, and became successful artists selling that culture to the broader America (Elvis Presley is a good example of this).

The antagonist of Sinners was mostly an example of the latter, attacking and turning black Southerners in an attempt to appropriate their culture.

I'm not familiar with the behind-the-scenes for this movie, so I can't say for sure that this was the writers intent, but the choice of highlighting the main-antagonist as Irish seemed in some ways to reference Bram Stoker's, the author of Dracula, Irish identity. A lot of Stokers inspiration for Transylvania seems to come partially from stories he heard about the Irish Potato Famine and British-Colonization of Ireland. Despite this, Dracula is not very openly critical England, with the main-cast of characters being English, and Dracula himself being Eastern-European.

Again, I can't say for certain, but I felt like the movie, to some extent, used vampires because they were popularized by an Irish man who in many ways conformed to that same white-homogenization as our antagonist.
