Let’s Go to Market! Field Trips to Discover Economics and Cultures - I See...
I see how taking students to various markets allows them to learn about economics and cultures in a concrete way, which is a requirement for young children. Teachers need to provide hands-on experiences as Diana Gomez did with her students to provide students with a deep understanding. These experiences are engaging and memorable for students.

What Does It Mean to Think Historically... and How Do You Teach It? - Now What...
These are skills that I am eager to teach to my future students! I feel confident now knowing how to use these four cognitive acts when assessing sources. When the teacher feels confident so will the students.

Let’s Go to Market! Field Trips to Discover Economics and Cultures - I Think...
When I think about how I will teach my future students, I will think about how I would like it to be taught to me. If I think it is not engaging, then my students will probably be thinking the same thing. I need to ask the students what they know, what they do not know, what they want to know so I can have a better understanding of how to engage and teach my students.

Critical Literacy for Young Citizens: First Graders Investigate the First Thanksgiving - Now What...
This article is eye-opening! I will use historical thinking in my future as well as in my classrooms. I will model historical thinking and prepare my students to think critically about the sources they read or hear.

Critical Literacy for Young Citizens: First Graders Investigate the First Thanksgiving - I Wonder...
I wonder how difficult or easy it will be for my future students to distinguish between the truth and false documents, and how to find reliable sources.

Critical Literacy for Young Citizens: First Graders Investigate the First Thanksgiving - I Think...
I support the idea of researching historical facts from different resources. The students learn critical thinking skills and the difference between the past and the present. The students also learn to develop research skills for further use in their lives.

Quote
We know that teachers have choices about the ways in which we interpret curriculum for and with our students. We believe that engaging history through inquiry opens the doors for students to become more active, thoughtful, critical readers—something we want for all future citizens of our world.

Critical Literacy for Young Citizens: First Graders Investigate the First Thanksgiving - I See...
This article is about historical thinking, investigation, and how it helps children to develop critical thinking skills. Historical thinking involves critical thought about the past, asking good questions about sources of knowledge, about the context, and meaning of historical accounts. The teacher had the students research and find what the Pilgrims ate on the First Thanksgiving. The students had the option to compare foods eaten at the First Thanksgiving and what is eaten today and why. The students were making connections between geography, culture, and changes in technology over time.

Quote
Students - even the young ones - need opportunities to engage these sources, to learn to assess their status, and to begin building and writing up their own interpretations of the past.

What is Historical Thinking? - I Think...
I think if teachers used historical thinking in the classroom their students will be more engaged as well. Students will want to learn and go to school because it was not just textbook based. Students feel they only learn history through textbooks and will disengaged.

I will use various strategies to engage my students and learn about what they already know. One great strategy is a KWHL chart for the students to fill out.

Let’s Go to Market! Field Trips to Discover Economics and Cultures - I Wonder...
I wonder what other hands-on activities the students could do if they could not take a field trip to various markets. Will they still get a deep understanding? Will they still be engaged? I would ask students questions and find out how they will like to learn about the questions they have. This will allow them to have a say and engage them in learning.
