Organization Members at An Amusement Park
Suggested by: 4ddictwithapencil. You can find the original ask here. You mentioned Disney, so let’s just assume that they’re all in Disney world in Florida. The links for the hotels and such lead to either pictures or Youtube Vids that I could find where you can actually tour the room<3  I highly recommend looking up the hotels online if you don’t know what they look like!
Xemnas
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: The Royal Suite in The Four Seasons Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Wildlife Express Train and Spaceship Earth
People move out of his way when he walks toward wherever he’s going. Lines to rides, lines to food, front seats at different attractions? They always move aside for him.
Purposely moves away from most of the Organization members to find stuff he’s interested in. Spends a lot of time in the regular exhibits instead of the actual rides
Likes a lot of the desserts that you can find across the parks, such as the Macarons aux Framboises at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie in Epcot. All the fancy stuff is what he’s all about
Spends most of his time in the World Showcase in Epcot, examining the various countries. Loves going to the different shops and seeing the merchandise he can buy.  He’s the guy that buys the $1000 merchandise you always dream about getting.
Xigbar
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: Park View Suite at the Four Seasons Orlando Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Expedition Everest and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Will hit on one of the Disney princesses and get into a near scuffle with Gaston. Doesn’t like to wait in lines, though, but will somehow sweet talk his way to the front of the line
Excellent at any shooting games, like the Toy Story Mania game.  Will always get the highest score out of all of the Organization members.
Never goes to Disney without stopping by Italy in Epcot to get himself a bunch of cannolis or sushi from Japan.  Could honestly just stay there and eat a little from each country.
That guy that uses the gym at the hotel every morning before anyone else wakes up
Xaldin
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom - or Typhoon Lagoon!
Favorite Hotel: The Cabins at the Fort Wilderness Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Jungle Cruise and DINOSAUR
Loves the animal attractions!!!  Nearly gasped aloud when he found out that there was a place in Animal Kingdom where you could actually watch the vets take care of and do examinations on the animals.  He thought it was awesome and super interesting!
Will get up early with Lexaeus and get the two of them coffee to start the day as everyone else wakes up.  Is no longer allowed to get coffee for Zexion because Lexaeus says he gets too hyper.
Also likes the Disney Water Park, even though it gets really crowded and there are too many small children there.  He doesn’t care about the children themselves; it’s just that the parents don’t watch them and he gets annoyed.  Loves all of the water slides, though, and can definitely sit and relax with an ice cream cone at one of the lounge chairs.
Vexen
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: Any room at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: It’s A Small World and Star Tours
Unapologetically likes it’s a small world and will happily - loudly - sing the song for hours.  Also likes Star Tours or anything to do with space because he finds it interesting.
Likes to spend time at Downtown Disney - and hates that they changed the name to Disney Springs.  Definitely bought himself a fake, light-up lightsaber that he annoys the other members with.
Will definitely go to the spa and get a facial, complete with cucumber over the eyes and a mani-pedi to go with it.
Lexaeus
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Copper Creek Cabins at the Wilderness Lodge
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Maharajah Jungle Trek and Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor
Gets up early and stays out at the parks late to stay with the other kiddos after the adults have all gone back to the hotels.  Wants to get his money’s worth and wants to make sure everyone has done what they wanted to do that day.
Usually forgets to do what he wants to do, but always has fun watching other people.
Carries one of those giant reusable cups that you can refill at any Disney restaurant so there’s something for everyone to have when they inevitably forget to refill their own drinks.  Also always has a churro in one hand.  He loves the damn things.
LOVES the giant Turkey legs.  Once ate four in one sitting.  The manager of that particular restaurant was so impressed, there’s a small plaque with his name on it next to a picture of him and Goofy both holding turkey legs.
Zexion
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Mission Space and Mad Tea Party
Will not go on It’s a Small World.  Never again.  Those creepy ass dolls haunted his dreams for months.
When he met Belle for the first time??? Heart eyes.  They talked about books for about twenty minutes until one of the Disney park guys said he had to move on because there were kids who wanted to meet the princess.
Likes to buy souvenirs, particularly if they’re things like puzzles, books, or little Disney science experiments.  Before they implemented the program where they would send your purchases directly to your room, he used to make Lexaeus carry his stuff around for him.
Saix
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, The Captain’s Deck Suite
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Soarin’ and Muppet Vision 3D
Has a plan okay.  Knows when each ride gets super crowded, knows which to go to first, knows what to save for last, knows which they should use their Fast Passes on, and knows when the lines for food are going to be faster and shorter.  He came prepared and is ready to take on Disney World like a WWII soldier storming the Bay of Normandy.
Cannot go to Disney with the whole group.  They will argue all the time and nothing will get done.  Much prefers for them all to separate and go off into groups of two and three so everyone can have a good time and he can stay organized while he has fun.
Axel
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Animal Kingdom Lodge in the Royal Asante Presidential Suite
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Space Mountain and Test Track
Loves action packed roller coasters and anything that makes his adrenaline shoot up.  Could ride space mountain six times in a row and not get bored.
Usually the guy who helps everyone have fun in long lines by telling jokes and playing games.
Can eat whatever he wants and will not get sick after he rides a ride, but put him on the spinning teacups and he’ll get so ill and dizzy that he’ll be out of commission for the rest of the day.
Demyx
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: All-Star Music Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Festival of the Lion King or Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
The man isn’t really into the whole rides and excitement.  I mean, yeah, he likes it obviously, and he won’t leave the park without going on all of the exciting rides at least once, but he’s more into the music and the atmosphere.  Loves Hollywood Studios because of the various shows and music things, etc.
Most likely to spend his time taking pictures with and dabbing with the princesses, but Tinkerbell is his favorite person to see.
Always up for seeing any concerts in Hollywood Studios under the mickey hat.
Luxord
Favorite Park: Epcot
Favorite Hotel: The Grand Suite at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
Favorite Ride/Attraction: The Great Movie Ride and Carousel of Progress
Kind of like Xemnas in the sense that his favorite place to be is the World of Nations in Epcot.  He really enjoys just sitting outside at one of the restaurants and drinking cappuccino and people watching.
Will somehow end up spending hours at the golf course at Saratoga Springs with Xemnas or, on one memorable occasion, he joined Larxene at the spa for a massage.
Marluxia
Favorite Park: Animal Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: The Treehouse Villa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Living with the Land and The Oasis Exhibits
His favorite thing is, obviously, the Annual Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot, but he does like looking at the animal habitats in the Animal Kingdom.  Has definitely stolen a few leaves and plant buds to add to his garden at home.
Ends up chatting with someone near one of the nature exhibits and is so informatory that a crowd forms because everyone thinks that he works at the park.
Larxene
Favorite Park: Hollywood Studios
Favorite Hotel: Bora Bora Bungalows in the Polynesian Village Resort
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Twilight Zone Tower of Terror (rip this great ride) and Haunted Mansion
Anything that makes her jump and her stomach head up to her throat? She’s totally into.  Will spend most of the time in line at the Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror trying to make the other Organization members jump.
Buys a lot of Disney merch, particularly T-shirts that she can sleep in.  They’re so soft and comfortable and they always last a long time, so she has a growing stack that’s taken up a permanent spot in her closet.
Roxas
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: Pop Century Hotel
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Kali Water River Rapids and Splash Mountain
THE FOOD.  Oh God, the food.  Dole Pineapple Whip, the Gray Stuff at Belle’s Castle, the giant Turkey Legs, the churros, the mickey ice cream cones.... will want to try everything and will have a huge stomachache by the end of the day.
Loves the Lion King Musical Performance Show.  He thinks it’s one of the coolest things he’s ever seen and he will absolutely be singing along with all of the songs
Xion
Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom
Favorite Hotel: The Art of Animation Hotel
Favorite Ride/Attraction: Kilimanjaro Safari and Illuminations Light Show
A literal princess.  Likes to experience a little bit of everything.  The pretty colors and sights and smells and EVERYTHING are just so wonderful and new to her.
Has to get souvenirs from every single store they pass.  Loves giant stuffed animals and little knick knacks because they are literally too cute for words.
Was extremely disappointed when they told her that she was too old to get a makeover at the princess boutique, but then (surprisingly) Xemnas sent them such a horrific glare for hurting her feelings that they gave her a makeover anyway.  She had sparkles in her hair for the rest of the week.

Walt Disney World Resorts Guide
Tumblr media
Heyday Travel Company is here to help you choose the best Walt Disney World resort for you.  Beyond just the numbers (location, tier, amenities onsite, etc.), we’ll also give you our personal opinions for any places we’ve stayed at.  While we’ve made our way around to many of the locations, we haven’t gotten to all of them, yet! Fortunately, where we may not have stayed, we likely know someone that has and can always get a firsthand opinion for you.  Heyday Travel also provides an ongoing update for construction at the resorts and restaurants.  We stay up to date on these so that we may help you plan your best Walt Disney World vacations. Since our reviews are not aggregated (like ‘leading’ websites on the web), you’ll be able to find some consistency with what we say.  This, of course, can be double-edged. While this absolutely weeds out any uninformed opinions, it also means you’re receiving only our point of view.  This, of course, means we may disagree with your personal experience and opinions at times too. Have no fear though, just because we may not like a location for our personal tastes and preferences doesn’t mean we can’t or won’t identify it as lining up with yours!  We’ve met plenty of people that disagree with our likes and have even vacationed with a few. Agree or disagree, you can trust that any opinions expressed here are from someone that has firsthand experience.   For this initial article, we’ll give you a broad highlight of each area, it’s resorts and overall general information.  In other blogs, you’ll be able to find more detailed information and reviews for each. Don't forget to read our other blogs about Planning the Core of Your Trip and our Planning Timeline.
DISNEY RESORT CLASSIFICATIONS
Disney loves to categorize things, so it’s no surprise that they’ve developed a hierarchy for their resorts. Deluxe Resorts: These resorts have the most extensive theming throughout, will have themed pools with slides and quiet pools, offer a food court, table service restaurants (with signature dining also available at most), a lounge bar, and a pool bar.  These resorts tend to be closest to the parks with several transportation options. If you’re looking for options and amenities, these will be your best choice resort.Deluxe Villa Resorts: These rooms are part of the Disney Vacation Club (Disney’s version of a timeshare).  Although these rooms are part of DVC, some rooms are available for general cash bookings. These rooms offer suites with more space.  Some of these suites even offer full kitchens, in-room laundry, and multiple bedrooms/bathrooms. Many are attached to Deluxe resorts offering access to those amenities.  Those that are not attached still offer the same deluxe and upscale amenities.Moderate Resorts: These resorts have moderate theming, although they do offer heavily themed rooms (Port Orleans Riverside and Caribbean Beach offer Royal and Pirate themed rooms respectively).  The grounds tend to be gorgeously landscaped even if they aren’t very “Disney” themed per se. The pools are not as themed as Deluxe resorts and may offer a slide although not as large as those found at Deluxe pools and also offer quiet pools.  Moderate resorts offer a food court, a table service restaurant, a lounge bar, and a pool bar.Value Resorts: These family-friendly resorts have some of the most “Disney-esque” grounds and theming of all of the resorts.  You’ll see colorful buildings with giant (read multi-story) Disney icons, sports equipment, etc. flanking the buildings. These resorts will have 1 large themed pool and several other smaller pools available.  There are no slides at these pools but may have “spray areas” and/or children’s pools. Value resorts have quick service food courts and in-room pizza delivery available, as well as a bar area near the pool. DELUXE & DELUXE VILLA RESORTS

HOW TO CHOOSE A DISNEY RESORT
So now that you’ve decided you want to stay on-property, how do you choose which resort?  There are nearly innumerable considerations, but let us give you some factors to consider: Cost: Of course, right?  Your budget will absolutely play a part and something you’ll want/need to consider.Location: With your budget in mind, think about how you want this trip to go.  Will you be focusing on just one or two parks? Will you be going to multiple? Hopping between multiple each day?  These things may impact where you want to be.  Room Quality: Yes, you’ll be able to save some money staying at a Value resort.  However, if you expect to spend a considerable amount of time in the room you may not enjoy it as much as if you were at a Moderate or a Deluxe.Size of your group: With greater numbers come more considerations.  Especially if you expect your group will break-up during the day.  Some may stay back for the pool while others go park hopping. Would you like to split up rooms or try to all be in the same suite?Theme: All Disney resorts will have a theme or some theming.  There is a significant difference though between the theming at Wilderness Lodge, Caribbean Beach, and Art of Animation.Dining: The resorts with the greatest quality and selection are those in the Epcot area.  Not only do you have significant in-resort options but also relatively easy access to the World Showcase and Epcot and Disney Springs.Amenities and Recreation: This is something else to genuinely consider if you intend to spend significant time at the resort.  Some resorts offer unique recreation opportunities and more elaborate pools. Most of these are still available to you even if at another resort, they’ll just be less convenient.Nightlife: The Epcot and Disney Springs resort areas offer the most nightlife options for you.  The extensive happenings at the Boardwalk and the numerous bars and restaurants at Disney Springs. #AskIt Results: Does Disney Need More Value Resorts?
We asked and you answered. On Twitter and here on the blog, the question was “Does Walt Disney World need more Value Resorts?” But before we dive into the results, let’s specify what we’re talking about.
Walt Disney World has categories for its onsite resorts. Here they are, including the number of rooms at each. Check out our full coverage of Walt Disney World hotels on our main hotel page.
Value (Pop Century [2880 rooms]; All Star Movies [1920], Music [1604], and Sports [1920]; Art of Animation [1984])
Moderate (Caribbean Beach [2112], Coronado Springs [1915], Port Orleans French Quarter [1008], Port Orleans Riverside [2048]; plus Fort Wilderness Cabins [362])
Deluxe (Magic Kingdom – Contemporary [655], Grand Floridian [867], Polynesian [467], Wilderness Lodge [727]; Epcot – Boardwalk [378], Yacht [630] and Beach Club [576]; Animal Kingdom Lodge [972])
Deluxe Villa (Old Key West [761], Saratoga Springs [1320]; plus the Disney Vacation Club Properties at Deluxe properties – Bay Lake Tower at the Contemporary [295], Beach Club Villas [282], Boardwalk Villas [532], Grand Floridian Villas [147], Polynesian Villas and Bungalows [380], Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village [458], and Boulder Ridge [136] and Copper Creek Cabins and Villas [220] at Wilderness Lodge)
This equals a total 27,556 rooms on Walt Disney World property owned and operated by the Mouse. And, of those, 10,308 (or 37%) are in the Value category.
The total rooms in the Value category includes Family Suites at Art of Animation (1119) and at All Star Music (216). While these rooms offer considerably more space than a standard Value room, they are usually twice the price of a value room, which makes sense as the original suites were built on the footprint of two Value rooms.
On to the results:
Yes, Walt Disney World needs more Value rooms – 1707 No, the number of value rooms is fine – 913
While there was a nearly 2:1 consensus on the vote, the comments were varied.
Many of you felt there’s a lack of options in the Value category that sleep five people. We’re definitely following up on this, but in the meantime, fire up the wayback machine for this article from Erin Foster on onsite options for five or more from 2013.
“Value.”
Others said that there’s value and then there’s “Value.” Because Pop Century falls squarely in the price range for this category, let’s use that for our data: a Preferred room for 2018 ranges from a low of $140 to a holiday price of $258 the last week of the year. You can often find discounts of 10-15% except in the most busy times of year.
Disney’s Pop Century began a room refurbishment last fall. Guy Selga has a fantastic review from his stay there. Expect to see this type of refurbishment in all the Value rooms in the future.
Our example Moderate is Port Orleans Riverside which ranges from $276 to $376 for a Preferred room, with fewer discounted rooms offered, but in the same 10-15% range.
And finally there’s the Deluxe resorts. (Because Deluxe Villas – Disney Vacation Club rooms – can be booked a number of ways: with cash, with your own DVC points, or with someone else’s DVC points, we’re not talking about their costs in this article.) A Deluxe property that is not directly attached to a theme park will cost less. A pool-view room at Animal Kingdom Lodge ranges from $412 to $903, with discounts sometimes available from 15-25%. The better located resorts with easier access to a theme park cost more. A Garden View room at the Yacht Club with its walking or boat access to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will set you back from $479 to $1148. Discounts can be found at around 15-25%.
That’s a lot of words on resort categories, but it does show where the Value prices fall in the greater scheme of all onsite pricing.
A room at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
Still others felt that the rooms at the All Stars, Pop Century, and Art of Animation compare unfavorably to the “Prime Value” resorts at Universal Orlando Resort, Cabana Bay and the soon to open Aventura. The non-suite rooms at Cabana Bay are very similar in price to a regular Disney Value room, though the true gems, the family suites are less expensive (though smaller) than suites at All Star Music or Art of Animation. There is no question that Cabana Bay is a nicer hotel than All Star Music. Whether or not it’s nicer than Art of Animation is up to your personal taste. I prefer Cabana Bay’s mid-century vibe to Animation’s child-friendly style, but YMMV.
Few people had specific ideas for what a new Value resort would be other than “cheaper” and “with more space.” Marvel and Classic Disney were the only two themes that were mentioned.
So to sum up, most people would like more perceived value for what Disney is selling and would like to pay less for it. In other news, the sky is blue. It was fun to hear your thoughts on Disney resorts. You’ve definitely given us some ideas for follow-up content. If you have even more to say about Disney, “value,” or anything else, party on in the comments. We have another poll for your voting pleasure coming out today on the blog.

The Basics of Planning a Disney World Vacation
It’s that time of year again! With my next Disney World vacation right around the corner, I have started making my fastpass selections and dining reservations to create the daily itineraries that keep my trip running smoothly. But there was quite a bit of planning before I got to this point.
Choosing your dates
The first thing you need to do when planning a Disney World vacation is choose your dates. I personally prefer going in late January or early February. This time of year happens to be the best for me personally, but might not be the best for you. First and foremost, if you or your children are in school, you should take that schedule into account when planning your vacation. Next, think about the crowd levels during different times of the year. Crowds are the lowest late January through early March. Crowds are also relatively low in the fall, until the week of Thanksgiving. Finally, think of the weather during your visit. Florida summers are notoriously hot and humid. If you are not used to that type of weather, it can be quite a shock. Hurricane season in Florida is in late summer, but hurricanes rarely make it far enough inland to impact Disney World. Winter in Florida is relatively dry and cool, which is the type of weather I prefer. There is little rain in the winter as well, and the rain is heaviest in the summer.
Choosing your hotel
Disney has almost thirty hotels on property, it can be tough to decide which one to stay at! I always recommend staying on property. Disney provides transportation to and from the Orlando Airport (MCO) and to and from the parks. Disney also allows hotel guests to make fastpass reservations first, 60 days in advance as opposed to 30 days for non-Disney hotel guests. Disney also has magic hours for hotel guests. These are hours where the parks are open only for those guests staying in Disney World hotels. On their website, Disney has conveniently organized their hotels into categories based on price. When choosing your hotel, keep in mind the more you pay the more you get. The hotel rooms at the Grand Floridian are going to be nicer than the room at one of the All Star resorts, because guests are paying more for their stay. That is not to say that the less expensive hotels are not as good. Disney puts their touch on everything they do, and all their hotels are wonderful. I personally like staying in the hotels in the EPCOT area because that is the most central location on property. Keep in mind as well the overall vibe of your trip. Younger kids will enjoy resorts like the Art of Animation because of the uniquely themed rooms and suites. The Animal Kingdom Lodge, while one of the most pricey hotels on property, overlooks the Safari of Animal Kingdom, and often there are animals right outside your window! I always thoroughly research all the hotels I am considering staying in for my trip before choosing.
Choosing your flights
This particular category is going to be unique to you. Websites like Kayak and Orbitz will help you compare different airlines. If there is an airline you love and always fly or have points with, fly with them. You know that situation better than anyone else. The only thing I need to tell you about choosing your flights is to make sure you fly into the Orlando Airport which is labeled as MCO. Once you have your flights booked, either call Disney World or go into My Disney Experience and add your flight information for Disney’s Magical Express. This is one of the best services Disney offers. I will be posting another blog about that at a later time.
That’s all it takes to get you going on your Disney World vacation! Soon you’ll be merrily on your way to nowhere in particular!

The low-down on Disney Resorts
When going to Disney World, one of the most important things for your own convenience is to stay on site. This is due to the perks you get for staying on site, which include:
·         complementary transportation to and from Orlando International Airport,
·         baggage pick up/drop off services to and from Orlando International Airport,
·         easy access to the complementary transportation around Disney property (ferries, buses, monorail, boats),
·         Extra Magic hours,
·         earlier access to dining and FastPass reservations,
·         use of the Disney Dining Plan,
·         package delivery options for purchases made in other locations on the WDW property
·         Access to resort pools, and walking paths
There are three tiers of resort on the Walt Disney World property; value, moderate, and deluxe.
Deciding factors to picking a resort to stay at are varied; why you’re going to WDW, how many people are in the travelling party, and the age spread therein.
Value Resorts (Disney’s All Star Movies, Sports, and Music, Pop Century, and Art of Animation resorts) are great when travelling with large groups or with small children, travelling on a budget, or for a quick getaway.
Pros:
·         Comfortable rooms
·         Families seeking privacy can look into family suites
·         Great pools for relaxing when not in the parks, (the Art of Animation pool plays music underwater!)
·         Food courts with tasty quick-service choices and variety, open 6:30 am until midnight
Drawbacks:
·         Slightly longer bus travel times, depending on location and destination
·         Shared bus line for the three All Star resorts, which can cause travel delays and crowded buses during peak travel times
·         No table service dining options at the resorts
Special Mention: Fort Wilderness Campground and Cabins
In between the value and moderate resorts lies the unique puzzle piece of Disney resorts that fills multiple needs. This is Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground and Cabins. On the lower-price side, for people who want to camp in tents, spaces are available for $14 a night. For retirees and people travelling with RV’s, you can set up at a campsite for any time period; from three days or two months. Cabins sleep up to 6 people with kitchens, cookout areas and other amenities of moderate resorts. If you’re a camper, this is a luxury campground. Included with reservation are hay rides, hiking trails, jogging paths, petting zoo, and easy access to fishing, archery, horseback riding and more. Dining is towards the value side, except for offering of not one, but two dinner dining shows; The Hoop-De-Doo Revue (3 times a night) and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ.  All of this comes with both bus and boat transportation around the Disney property.
Moderate Resorts (Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Port Orleans- Riverside and French Quarter, Coronado Springs, and the Cabins at Fort Wilderness)
·         Rooms are slightly more spacious than value resorts
·         Recreational gyms are available at these resorts, and some of them also feature spa amenities.
·         Improved dining options: most, but not all, moderate resorts have both quick serve and table service restaurants on site
·         More recreation activities:
o   fishing trips are available out of Port Orleans and Fort Wilderness Lodge
o   horse and buggy rides are available out of Port Orleans: French Quarter
o   tennis and volleyball are available at most moderate resorts
·         Shorter travel times to parks and Disney Springs
·         Some resorts have alternates to bus transportation, such as the Port Orleans boats to Disney Spring, and Fort Wilderness boats to the Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center, and the resorts ringing the Seven Seas Lagoon
·         Live music acts are found at the Scat Cat club at Port Orleans-French Quarter
·         Rumors abound about upgrades to Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach resorts, including a direct entrance into the World Showcase side of EPCOT
Deluxe Resorts (Disney’s Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian Village, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom Lodge,  Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club, Yacht Club resorts)
Deluxe resorts are considered “deluxe” due to the fact that they have signature dining options, close proximity to theme parks, multiple transportation options, a variety of relaxing lounges, and access to spa amenities. People travelling with young to early adolescent children would often rather enjoy closer proximity to Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom, depending on preference. Parties with teenagers or adults may prefer the EPCOT area resorts.
·         Most deluxe resorts have at least one signature dining establishment under their roof
o   These are some of the finest restaurants on Walt Disney World property
·         Deluxe resorts also feature quick-serve areas
o   Especially ideal for a quick breakfast before hitting the park.
·         For a slower pace, many resorts feature buffet restaurants
·         Deluxe resorts generally have larger, more intricate pools, and more recreational offerings, including fishing excursions, water sports, tennis, volleyball
·         Transportation from deluxe resorts to the parks, especially when travelling with children, can always be made into an adventure.
o   Bus access is available to all parks from any resort
o   Monorail transport to Magic Kingdom is available to the Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, and Contemporary resorts
o   Boats to Magic Kingdom are available from all the Magic Kingdom area resorts
o   Friendship boats run from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios around Crescent Lake to the Boardwalk Inn, Beach Club, and Yacht Club resorts
When trying to decide on what you’re looking for in a resort; how big is your party? What is the composition of your party? Where do you want to go? Do not try to do everything at Walt Disney World in one trip. Leave time to enjoy the memories you make and to get around using the WDW transportation to see what you want to see. Remember: it’s a vacation. You’re also going to want to have time to relax and enjoy!
Any questions, about finding the perfect resort, or anything about Disney planning, the ask box are open, don’t be a stranger!

SATURDAY SIX: 6 Reasons We Love The Christmas Season at UNIVERSAL!
By Derek Burgan
This week’s SATURDAY SIX takes a look at Reasons We Love the Christmas Season at Universal! When it comes to the Universal Orlando Resort and holidays, the one which they are most associated with is Halloween. Each year Universal’s signature event – incredibly popular Halloween Horror Nights – somehow becomes even bigger. Many theme park guests would associate the Christmas holiday with Disney. With Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom, Candlelight Processional at Epcot, and all the amazing decorations at various resorts (including the Grand Floridian’s Gingerbread House and the massive Christmas tree at the Wilderness Lodge,) WDW is loaded with festive Christmas spirit. However, over the past few years Universal has quietly put together a great Christmas package as well.
Today we’re going to take a look at some of our favorite holiday offerings at Universal, and let’s kickoff the countdown with…
# 6 – Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular
During most of the year, no theme park can touch The Mouse when it comes to in-park shows. Festival of the Lion King, Finding Nemo – The Musical, and even Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage are crowd pleasers of the highest order. When the calendar hits December, Universal brings out some big guns that deliver in a major way. The Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular is a must-see stage show presentation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas, and it combines elements of both the beloved animated version along with the Jim Carrey live-action film. Meanwhile Seuss Landing becomes decorated to the nth degree, and you may even run into Whos in the land putting out even more decorations!

# 5 – Blues Brothers Holiday Show
While I’m not a huge fan of the Blues Brothers film starring Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi, I am absolutely in love with the high-energy Blues Brothers Show that takes place daily across from Finnegan’s in Universal Studios Florida. The show is so good that it makes me overlook three things I normally don’t care for inside a theme park: 1) live music 2) standing 3) no shade. The Team Members playing Jake and Elwood (along with their supporting cast) seem to nail it each and every single time. The Blues Brothers Holiday Show takes it up a notch with the boys singing Christmas songs along with doing fun things on stage such as decorating a Christmas tree with packs of cigarettes and beer cans. Peanuts cartoons, Chevy Chase Vacation movies, and Blues Brothers Shows, Christmas just makes everything better.

# 4 – Decorations in the Wizarding World
Starting this year Universal went all-out in decorating the Wizarding World, both in Hogsmeade Village and Diagon Alley. Book readers and film watchers know that Christmas has always been an important part of the Harry Potter Universe (who can forget Ron and Harry getting handmade sweaters from Mrs. Weasley) and now the parks have followed suit with holiday-themed decorations stuffed throughout the lands. With gorgeous wreaths and lighted garland, Hogsmeade Village in particular takes on a whole new look during the day, and really pops at night. Each of the stores in each land have unique decorations for the Potter aficionado to check out, but the average guest will feel completely immersed in Holiday spirit.

# 3 – Celestina Warbeck’s Nothing Like a Holiday Spell
When Diagon Alley made its debut back in 2014, one of our favorite surprises was how great the Celestina Warbeck show was. A character only briefly mentioned in the books, the live stage show featuring the Singing Sorceress and the Banshees is a crowd favorite. With lyrics hitting home for any fan of the Wizarding World along with wonderful synchronized dancing, the show is a delight. During Christmas time, Celestina and her Banshee backup singers get new outfits (take that Anna and Elsa!) and we Muggles get to hear several new songs including Accio Christmas, The Most Magical Yule Ball of All, and My Baby Gave Me a Hippogriff for Christmas.

# 2 – Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s
While Disney still rules the roost when it comes to parades with shows like Festival of Fantasy, Universal has made a quantum leap in parade quality over the last several years. This year’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s includes 15 new floats and 13 new larger-than-life balloons. The fan favorite minions have increased their presence, and on the Despicable Me float we have have Universal’s first appearance of Lucy Wilde, Gru’s wife. Dreamworks brands such as Shrek and Madagascar are represented, with the whole show feeling like a complete upgrade from years past.

# 1 – The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle
In a word: AMAZING.
The new projection show at Hogwarts Castle is a flawless display that will have Potter fanatic’s jaws on the ground. With the classic John Williams score playing in the background, Hogwarts Castle comes alive each night with a show which involves classic Potter moments including the Yule Ball, Quidditch, ghosts singing Christmas carols, and a special tribute to our favorite Weasley twins. As far as projection shows go, Universal delivered a product as good as anything you’ll see at Disney (and we LOVE the Tree of Life Awakenings at the Animal Kingdom.)

Honorable Mention -Hengist of Woodcroft card
One of the most popular souvenirs (and snacks) at Universal is the Chocolate Frog available in the Wizarding World. With a box design straight out of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, guests find a rather large chocolate frog inside along with an exclusive Wizard’s card. When Hogsmeade Village made its debut in 2010, the chocolate frog boxes came with card featuring one of the four founders of Hogwarts. Two years ago, during a Celebration of Harry Potter, a fifth card was added to the rotation featuring Albus Dumbledore. This year’s Celebration brought Gilderoy Lockheart. This year Universal added a seventh card, and it features Hengist of Woodcroft, the wizard responsible for founding Hogsmeade Village. This is fan service of the highest possible level.

Disney Bucket List – What’s on Ours?
By Laurel Stewart
Most theme park fans have a bucket list. Whether it’s hitting every international Disney park or finally experiencing that very expensive meal you’ve always wanted, there’s usually something that brings a wistful look to our eyes. With that in mind, we asked our fabulous blog team: “What’s on your Disney bucket list?”
Claire: 1. Star Wars Day at Sea. I have yet to do a Disney Cruise, and if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do it right: Lucasfilm panelists, movies shown on a loop, characters galore, amazing cosplay, and delicious food. Coincidentally, all of it happens to be on a majestic cruise ship which in and of itself has amazing perks!
2. Tokyo Disneyland/Disney SEA 3. A week in the Grand Californian Resort 4. Adventures by Disney to Africa 5. Eat at Sanaa and finally have that bread about which I’ve heard so much.
Photo – Erin Foster
Sarah: 1. An Adventures by Disney European Rhine River Cruise because it stops in four countries and includes amazing port activities
2. A stay in a club level suite at the Contemporary Resort 3. Take a combination Disneyland/Aulani trip 4. Dine with an Imagineer at Hollywood Brown Derby 5. Take the Adventures by Disney Backstage Magic trip
Angela: My number one bucket list item is to spend a night (or two) in the Cinderella Castle Suite at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World. Growing up, I was that kid who watched Disney Princess films over…and over…and over. My poor family; I made them listen to me for HOURS as I serenaded them with Disney song after Disney song. There was about a seven-year period where I truly thought I was a Princess. (Of course, being the youngest and only girl of three older brother’s only exacerbated this delusion.) Spending the night in Cinderella Castle would bring me back to my roots and reaffirm my mindset that anyone can be a royal…whether they’re three, or 83.
2. Take over for Stacey Aswad, host of “Must Do Disney TV” (I’d even co-host!) 3. Complete every behind the scenes tour offered at Walt Disney World 4. Visit Tokyo Disneyland 5. Go on my first Disney Cruise (The Fantasy)
Photo – Laurel Stewart
Dani: 1. Polynesian Bungalow. Say what you will about these accomodations, like poorly positioned, view blockers, under serviced, and overpriced, I still want to stay in one, just once. Two or three nights would suffice. I love Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, almost as much as I love Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. I am very fortunate that I’ve stayed in a Treehouse Villa a few times over the years and recently a three bedroom grand villa at Kidani Village. I desperately want to cross these exotic bungalows off my list.
2. Victoria & Albert’s 3. Grand I (one) yacht cruise 4. Epcot Seas Adventures – DiveQuest 5. Eat each meal of the day, in one day, at Epcot’s France Pavilion (brasserie for breakfast, Chef de France for lunch, and Monsieur Paul for dinner).
Rikki: 1. I’ve done the domestic resort areas – WDW, Disneyland, and Aulani, but my real true wish is to get to every other Disney Resort around the world. My top choice would be Tokyo and Paris, then Shanghai, then Hong Kong. In that order.
2. I’ve been lucky enough to take multiple sailings on Disney Cruise Line, but I would love to take one of the reposition cruises. The idea of being able to fully have time to experience what the ships have to offer is huge. You don’t get that opportunity with a trip that has frequent port stops. 3. Adventures by Disney.  Particularly one of the Backstage Magic ones where I could see some of the classic Disney stuff, like the archives, imaineering, and more. 4.  I always regretted that when I lived in Missouri I never made the trip to see Marceline. I want to see the area that helped influenced Walt in his passions. 5. The Backstage Magic tour. I’ve wanted to see the inner workings of the Walt Disney World theme parks. I find that fascinating.
Photo – Sarah Graffam
Daisy: First, I have to say in compiling this list I realized my goals are pretty lofty. I’ve been incredibly lucky that I’ve been able to do all the things I’ve done. With that said, the very top of my list is Club 33 in Shanghai. Since it’s the only one left I haven’t visited, I’m very hopeful that someday soon I’ll worm my way into a meal at this exclusive spot. Of course, we still need to visit the park in Shanghai. However, for a bucket list I’m going for broke!
1. Shanghai Disneyland with Club 33 2. After hours event at Tokyo Disney While I’ve been lucky enough to visit Tokyo Disney three times, I still haven’t made it to an after hours event. In Tokyo these events are sold by lottery for special events like Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve. Since everything in the Tokyo parks are absolute perfection, I can’t imagine these event are any different. Someday I want to be there to see it for myself!< 3. Disneyland / Magic Kingdom Dream Suite I feel like this is on every good Mouseketeer’s list. Can you imagine anything more incredible than having the privilege to stay inside the park for a night? This isn’t something that can be bought, Disney has to choose you. And frankly, I think that’s part of the dream. That I could do anything Disney would even notice, let alone give them reason to bestow on me such an insane honor. It’s the stuff of pixie dust filled dreams! 4. Disney in the snow Now, I’m a Florida girl and you couldn’t pay me to go hang out in snow somewhere. However, the appeal of seeing a Disney park as a winter wonderland has my attention. I’m pretty sure Tokyo and Paris are the only options to make this one a reality. To make it even more complex, the trip would have to be rather last minute to catch the weather right. Still, I have dreams of seeing a Disney park under a blanket of snow one of these days. 5. Aulani Believe it or not, I still haven’t made it to Hawaii. The flight is so long from Florida and there is always somewhere else we can get to more easily. There’s also the fact that I’m not sure what there is to do besides lounge on the beach. Despite that, I’m adding it to the list because I want to be able to say I’ve been everywhere. Besides, there are worse places to go than Hawaii, right? Anywhere that has Duffy has to be pretty great!
“I now pronounce you …”
James: I feel like I should preface my bucket list selections with a couple of comments.  First of all, I fully recognize that the legal authority of a ship captain to perform a binding marriage ceremony is at best unsettled. Furthermore, it is probably worth noting that I am, in fact, already married.  As luck would have it, this works out pretty well for me, because what I’d like to do is to be a part of a marriage ceremony while riding the Jungle Cruise performed by a Jungle Cruise skipper.  Are Jungle Cruise Skippers “captains?”  Can boat captains perform legal marriages in the State of Florida?  Who cares?!?!?!?  I’m already married, making it purely ceremonial anyway, but what an awesome way to do a vow renewal!  When in the ride, you may ask?  Well, I can think of now place more fitting than to renew our vows right as we pass THE BACK SIDE OF WATER!  It’s the pinnacle of the ride, after all, and the tunnel at the close of the ride would set an interesting mood for a reception.
Other, potentially more likely bucket list items: 1.  An evening in the Cinderella Castle Suite 2.  Chef’s Table at Victoria & Albert’s 3.  Keys to the Kingdom Tour (actually had this scheduled and had to cancel) 4.  As a passholder at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, I’ve always wanted to hit all 6 domestic parks in a day.
Tammy: 1. Adventures by Disney on a 9-night African safari because a deluxe safari (read – no camping) is a longtime goal.  It will also involve some new camera equipment, I’m sure.  But that can be addressed at a later date! 2. Cruise in the Roy O. Disney Suite on the Disney Fantasy 3. Visit all of the Disney parks in Asia 4. Stay in a themed suite at the Disneyland Hotel 5. Be on the inaugural sailing for both of the new Disney ships
Buzz is rooting for you, Liz.
Liz: 1. Experience every guided tour at Walt Disney World – Since no one has created an ice cream sandwich eating contest at the Magic Kingdom for me to win yet, I guess I can settle for behind the scenes glimpses of beloved attractions, line skipping privileges, and animal encounters as my top bucket list item in the interim. 2. Score 999,999 on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin 3. Stay at Wilderness Lodge over Christmas 4. Conquer the Kitchen Sink 5. Watch IllumiNations from a fireworks cruise
Savannah: 1. Visit Tokyo DisneySea. I want to ride Journey to the Center of the Earth, shop til I drop for cute merch, and eat everything, particularly a Chandu Tail and Mike Wazowski Melon Bread. 2. Visit Disneyland Paris 3. A Disney Cruise with a Double-Dip Castaway Cay Itinerary 4. Night at a Polynesian Village Bungalow 5. Take the Walk in Walt’s Disneyland Footsteps Guided Tour
Tessa: 1. Stay in a VP or Presidential Suite at Walt Disney World, even just for one night, to see how the other half lives, Disney-style. 2. Dine in the Snow White/Wishing Well room at Carthay Circle 3. Take an international Adventures by Disney trip 4. Visit Tokyo and Shanghai Disneylands 5. Take a Disney cruise
Laurel: 1. An 11-night Southern Carribbean cruise on the Fantasy in the Walter E. Disney Suite because I can’t get enough of concierge level on DCL and because it’s a rare itinerary for Disney. 2) See the Asian parks 3) Eat at the Chef’s Table at Napa Rose 4) Run the Disneyland Paris Half Marathon 5) Finish my stays in the all the Grand Villas (Old Key West and Grand Floridian, I’m looking at you.)
So there you go, that’s what we’re dreaming of. Lots of trips abroad whether with Adventures by Disney or to the parks, some personal victories, and one very romantic idea from James (every other Disney Husband is ON NOTICE). How about you? Talk in the comments or hit us up on Twitter #DisneyBucketList or Facebook. Or share a photo with us on Instagram of you checking something off your list- and don’t forget to hashtag it #DisneyBucketList.

Disney Dad’s Top 20 Places to Get a Drink in Walt Disney World
Everyone knows that Walt Disney World is the “Happiest Place on Earth”. But where can you get a good beer?
The Disney Dad, with his faithful keyboard-mashing blogger, have made their list of the best places to have an adult beverage on the WDW property.
This list is by no means, definitive, and is influenced by our opinions and experiences.
1.      Top of the World Lounge , Bay Lakes Tower, Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Caveat Emptor: Exclusive DVC entry
Cons: Limited hours 6pm-12am daily; only open to DVC members and guest.
Pros: Wonderful drinks; tasty appetizers, possibly the best view of MK fireworks when you’re not standing on Main Street, piped in sound included
Before and after fireworks, the lounge empties out and is a great place to relax after a day in the parks.
2.      Mizner’s Lounge, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
The height of bar couture, but they will serve you whether you are dressed in a suit or shorts and flip-flops.
Great when the Jazz band is playing.
3.      Tune-In Lounge, Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The most crowded lounge in any park, due to the fact that people are either waiting for reservation for the 50’s Prime Time Café, or could not get reservations and are trying to get food from the bar.
If you are the former, get a quick drink. If you are the latter, try and lay claim to a bar stool and make yourself comfortable for the day.
Atmosphere, much like the restaurant adjacent, is amazing.
4.      Crew’s Cup Lounge, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
Lounge to The Yachtsman’s Steakhouse
Food is wonderful
Atmosphere is dark, quiet and relaxing.
5.      The Outer Rim Lounge, Concourse, Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Most overlooked, underrated bar on the Walt Disney World property.
The bar gets lost in the hustle and bustle of the Contemporary Concourse, and the entrance to Chef Mickey’s.
A relaxing place, with a wonderful view of Magic Kingdom Park.
Great for quick appetizers and a relaxing cocktail in the middle of the afternoon.
6.      Victoria Falls Lounge, Jambo House, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Exudes ambiance.
Waterfalls actually trickle behind you as you relax at the end of a long park day, with unique cocktails and beer selections.
7.      Popcorn in Canada, Canada Pavilion, World Showcase, EPCOT
Ok, I know it’s a beer cart, but it’s a beer cart with what I believe are the three finest Canadian brews, popcorn, and every once in a while, a unique surprise. Check the menu.
8.      Big River Grille and Brewing Works, Disney’s Boardwalk Area
The only micro-brewery on Disney Property.
A unique selection of craft beers, and wonderful pub appetizers.
9.      Block & Hans, The American Experience, World Showcase, EPCOT
Truly American, a rotating menu of unique American craft beers and hot pretzels.
10.  The Wave Lounge, Disney’s Contemporary Resort
An often overlooked, highly dynamic lounge, open late at night.
Serves all the Disney bar favorites.
11.  La Cava de Tequila, Mexico Pavilion, World Showcase, EPCOT
For lovers of tequila, and all things Mexican, La Cava is a dream come true. From small-plate Mexican appetizers to tequila flights, not to mention blood orange margaritas.
12.   Scat Cat’s Club, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort
Good drinks, great entertainment.
Slight caveat, make sure entertainment is present
13.  Belle Vue Lounge, Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
Possibly the comfiest bar on Disney property, the plush armchairs and laid-back Art Deco vibe is a refreshing break from a hectic day at EPCOT.
Board games are available, as well as a continental breakfast in the morning.
14.  House of Blues Restaurant & Bar, West Side, Disney Springs
Good drinks, great music.
15.  Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, The Landing, Disney Springs
Classic Irish bar atmosphere.
Good porter, great pub appetizers, and in the evening, good Irish dance and music.
16.  Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe, Norway Pavilion, World Showcase, EPCOT
Wonderful pastries and unique Nordic refreshments.
17.  Yak and Yeti Quality Beverages, Asia, Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Wonderful cool libations, with a unique Asian twist.
18.  Sommerfest, Germany Pavilion, World Showcase, EPCOT
Good German beer with some unique offerings, such as the Scoffenhauser.
19.  Maji Pool Bar, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas- Kidani Village / Uzima Springs Pool Bar, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
Wonderful way to relax during the day
Unique appetizer and small plate offerings.
Normal Disney bar menu with unique African accents.
20.  All-Star Resort Pool Bars, All-Star Resorts
First line of all Disney bars- even the bars at the value resorts exude the Disney spirit, courtesy, friendliness, and reasonable prices. The appetizers may not be fancy, but they are still filling and good.
Honorable Mentions (Bars we’ve heard good things about, but haven’t been to yet):
21.  Tambu Lounge, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
22.  Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
23.  AbracadaBar, Disney’s Boardwalk Area
