Lost - Chapter 3

When she thought back to her human family and all the lessons, they had taught her; one of them being “Do not talk to strangers,” she had followed this all the way into adulthood.

She was pretty sure she could break this rule when it came to the man that had saved her life; she was certain her adoptive mother would be eagerly nudging her to talk with that cute smile.

“Can you stand?” the man arched his eyebrow as his sharp features almost glared at her and she quickly nodded half expecting him to at least offer her a hand to get to her feet.

“Good, get up and follow,” his entire demeanour reminded her of a strict teacher and she bit her lip to stop herself from yelling at him.

She was shaken up, terrified and exhausted from running from a horde.

Where was the compassion?

Instead, she struggled herself up from the floor and followed her saviour to the room he had appeared from, an empty office room where the door on the other side of the room had been barricaded with half of the desks and chairs in the room and the other half was ready and waiting by the door he’d come through.

Clearly, he had thrown things to the side to save her and this made her feel a little more relaxed around him, knowing that he had to compromise his own safety room to save a stranger.

“You got a name, Spots?” his voice made her jump and she quickly went to help him re-barricade the room.

She eyed him cautiously and had to once again, bite her lip to prevent an insult as she noticed him rolling his eyes.

“Well, I’m Lee Know and I just saved your arse,” he pointed out as he reached into a bag on the floor and she was immediately on edge once again; her fingers tightening around the baton.

“Here,” he murmured and she flailed her hands in the air as she tried to catch whatever he’d thrown at her.

A bag of crisps.

“Thanks,” she replied quietly and Lee Know let out a laugh at how comically fast she ripped into the food, a bright red blush appearing on the hybrids face once she realised.

“How...how have you been surviving in here?” she asked with a mouthful of crisps, crumbs all over her cheeks.

“Not that difficult when this place had water coolers and vending machines on every floor,” he pointed out sitting on the floor and groaning as he stretched his legs out in front of him, “plus it’s easy to hide in here because of the amount of rooms,” he closed his eyes, “though it would be a lot safer without people jumping through windows and bringing a horde with them,”

She paused in her eating and frowned at the smug grin on the man’s face.

“I was trying to lead them away from my friend,” she explained with a blunt tone that stopped whatever atmosphere had built and Lee Know looked at her with question.

“We split up for just a few seconds,” she added looking away from him, “he went to the pharmacy and I went to check out what direction to go; I was only around the corner and they were just there and I knew that when they had seen me that I would only bring them back to my friend so I had to abandon him!” she rubbed at her eyes as she felt them sting with tears, “I’m scared to go back and find him as one of them, despite my trying to save him,” she whispered and Lee Know broke his silence with a loud sigh.

“Listen,” he started rubbing the back of his neck, “I’ll help you get back to wherever you came from...y’know, as long as it’s close by” he offered and then dug around in his bag again, finding a pack of tissue and chucking them over to her.

“We need to wait for daytime though,” he pressed a button on his watch to make the face light up and held his wrist up so she could read it, “darkness only adds to the fuckery that’s already out there during the day,”  

She nodded despite wanting to leave.

Be smart for a bit she hugged her knees as she sat on the floor.

“I’m just going to call you Spots, by the way,” he added with a snarky chuckle, “name or no name, that’s what I’m going to call you,”  

It surprised her when a small laugh left her lips but she nodded at him.

“Fair dos,”  

Though silence fell over the newly acquainted duo, she couldn’t help but feel ever so slightly bad that she just couldn’t shake the anxiety rippling through her at Lee Knows almost absent response to taking out quite a large group of zombies.

His shirt was starting to dry now but it was still covered in other people’s blood and his shoes still held small chunks of flesh in the grip ridges of the underside of his shoes.  

The less said about the state of the baseball bat, the better.

She could only come to the conclusion that he had been in this building since the outbreak and was used to dealing with zombies; even more than herself as she was still living in her home with Felix.

“How’d you manage to get a baton, thought they were illegal for civilians to own?” Lee Knows ridiculously attractive face morphed into an expression that made him look considerably younger, which was saying something as he was clearly already a young man.

“There was an officer that had turned,” she flicked her wrist to make the baton stretch out, “he wasn’t going to use it and I kind of...needed it to get away from him,” she mumbled flinching a bit at the memory.

“What about you?” she asked pulling at her tail, “don’t normally find office workers carrying baseball bats,” she smiled shyly when he chuckled at her comment.

“Believe it or not, this place has a sports center down below all of this crap,” he explained, “there’s a batting cage and so,” he waved his own weapon, “baseball bat; just added the wire from one of the fences around the building,” he paused in his short story as he watched her slightly spotty dalmatian ears wiggle whenever she moved.

“Um,” he puffed out a small smirk, trying to ignore the Hybrid features of the woman before him; it was hard though, to not touch something that looked soft and fluffy, “I can add some wire to your baton if you’d like?”  

She looked at him with interest and then considered her weapon, looking rather naked compared to his decked-out bat.

“You would do that?” she tilted her head once again.

“Of course,” Lee Know almost looked downright offended by her assumption, “I don’t want any more zombie, least of all hybrid zombies,” he waved his hands in the air when she started to frown at his comments.

“What I mean,” he rolled his eyes, “is that the hybrid zombies are so much faster than regular human zombies, they have that primal instinct as well so when their humanity is gone, they all turn back to how their animals would be in the wild,” he grimaced and she couldn’t help but wonder if he had witnessed such a scene.

“I’ve only seen a couple of hybrid zombies,” she noted thinking back to right at the beginning when she spotted a small group of hybrid zombies chasing down a crowd of people, their eyes wild and their jaws snapping.

“Well, you guys are fast!” Lee Know laughed quietly, “no zombie can really keep up with you lot unless they have you cornered somewhere,” he sighed loudly as he reached out and gave in to the temptation, his fingers gently stroking her ears making her nearly jump out of her skin.

“Sorry,” he flinched his hand backwards with a playful grin as he saw the blush appearing on her face once more, “your ears are really cute,” he was so straightforward that it genuinely made her pause to try and figure out how to respond to a person like Lee Know.

“People seem to enjoy my ears,” she pulled at her tail again, shyly, “my friend always strokes them when we’re watching films or playing games,”  

Lee Know noticed how she beamed upon mentioning her friend and he found himself smiling with her.

“I think it’s an anxiety thing for him,” she pondered as he gaze fell to the dirty floor they were both resting on, “so...if it helps, you can do that...too,” she pulled at the fabric of the carpet and then at her tail before finally finishing my covering both of her hands with her sleeves to try and stop that habit.  

“I’m actually looking for another couple of hybrids,” Lee Know pointed out and his chocolate brown eyes flickered to meet hers, “well, a friend group with a couple of hybrids in it,” he sighed and then leaned back on a few boxes that looked less than comfortable; eyes now shut.

“Are they family?” she questioned carefully.

“Might as well be,” he replied with a soft smile, “they’re a pain but as the cheesy movies would say, they are my pain,”  

She found herself laughing once again at the drenching of sarcasm coming from the man, his attitude and humour quite different from Felix’s.

“If I manage to get back to my friend, I’m sure we could help you find them,” she suggested before yawning loudly and without covering her mouth, allowing Lee Know to see her fangs, “he’s always wanting to help people,” she added with a sleepy smile and brought her bag onto the floor so she could eventually use it as a pillow.

Lee Know didn’t reply.

She assumed he had fallen asleep, a small blessing as she all but crashed after her offer.

Lost - Chapter 2

“Follow me,”  

That was what Felix had said to her as they had tried to get to the shopping centre across town; it was such a simple instruction to follow and yet she had managed to get distracted by another shop that seemed to have been a pet shop.

Clearly Felix had thought she was following as he was already across the street, looking back at her with wide and worried eyes, watching as she quickly ducked down in the pet shop.

They have treats in here, she thought pathetically wanting to cry at her own instincts, why can’t you fucking ignore them! She pulled at her tail in anger and quickly bit down on her bottom lip to stop the yelp that nearly escaped.

Taking a deep breath, she crawled over to where the toys were and searched for something she could distract them with.

Gotcha! She grabbed a hold of a squishy toy that had a battery powered squeaker in it, a bright purple dinosaur similar to the one she had seen one of the dogs in the building playing with.

Holding her breath, she flicked the switch on and nearly dropped it at the loud noise it made, her feet quickly dashing to the door and throwing it as far as she could before ducking back down and watching as people quickly started running towards the noise.

As soon as she spotted a clearing, she dashed forwards.

Felix motioned her to run towards him with fast shaking of his hands and even from where she was, she could see that he was shaking with worry.

“I’m so sorry!” she cried as she got close enough for him to hear her, and she launched herself through the window of the café Felix was currently hiding in.  

“It’s alright, it’s okay” he chuckled lightly and grabbed her hands to help her stand, “just try and fight those doggy instincts of yours,” he smiled sadly at having to ask this of her, but it wasn’t the first time it had gotten her in trouble.

“I... I’m trying, Lix,” she mumbled, following said man to the back of the café; all the while trying to ignore the fact that the café was currently painted in blood with God-knows what on the walls in thick goop.

“Hey,” he brushed the back of his finger against her cheek, “I know you are,” he then quickly pushed his forehead against hers, something that had become a symbol of their friendship as of late.

Making sure to grab anything useful along the way out the back of the café, she kept a light hold on the back of Felix’s shirt; eyes darting all around them to try and spot any danger.

It made her head hurt whenever they were outside, constantly flickering her eyes about made her dizzy and even though her stamina had gotten better, she still got worn out quite quick.

“Hold my hand instead,” Felix’s deep voice made her jump and she felt herself smile as their hands linked together softly, “hold on tightly, there are a lot of them in this alleyway,” he warned after peeking through a small crack in the door.

Though he was talking like a leader, she could see the terror in his eyes as he observed the mindless beings currently shuffling around the alleyway, some even fighting one another whenever they bumped into each other which was possibly the most human thing she had ever seen them do.

“I think we need to get over that fence,” she whispered and pointed to the chain-link fence that was at the end of the alleyway, “I think it leads to the back of the old shopping centre” she pondered trying to see if there were any signs about.

“It does, but wasn’t it raided last week?” Felix asked with a slightly worried tone, “remember the fires?”

She paused in her search for signs and nodded, “I was nearly in one of them,” she pointed out and smiled a bit when Felix squeezed her hand gently.

A few groups of survivors had already taken it upon themselves to start burning down buildings in a twisted way of getting rid of the infection and in turn, the infected.

This hadn’t exactly gone to plan as she and Felix were almost positive that more innocent lives had been lost rather than the intended targets.

As they snuck into the alleyway, they both clambered over the chain link fence all the while trying not to make too much noise.

Around the other side of the fence was a long stretch of open road with little cover to hide behind and it immediately made her stop in her tracks; this was not leading to the back of the shopping centre as they had initially thought.  

“I hate this,” she whispered, and Felix just nodded, not knowing how to properly respond.

Though it was early Winter, she found herself sweating quite a bit as they continued to move and sprint towards the street map that was nestled under a bus stop.

“Felix,” she gently tugged his hand to get his attention when they finally reached the map, “go search that pharmacy, I’ll scout the map and see if I can spot the shopping centre,” she spotted the panic that flashed over his face and she quickly brought his forehead to hers, “I won’t go far, I’m literally going around a few corners and I’ll be back but this way we’ll be able to see where the hell to go and get some medical things in case anything happens to us,” she explained with a calm tone; enjoying the view of Felix’s big eyes up close.

“Please be careful,” his deep rumble of a voice made her giggle for some unknown reason and she nodded.

“You too, I won’t be long!” she flushed darkly when Felix sighed in both worry and hesitance before simply kissing her forehead.

As soon as they split up, she was quick to take a picture of the map and then pouted as the prospect of having to figure out how to read it.

“Maybe I should have gone to the pharmacy,” she quipped to herself as she quickly made her way down the road, noting the various shop titles along the way to help her find the way back.

Her eyes tried to find the building they were looking for, but it just wasn’t there; it was as if it had just disappeared, and she had the awful feeling that it had been taken down by the arsonists.

Fishing through her bag, she grabbed the baton she had stolen a couple of weeks back, just to feel a little more confident whilst she walked alone.

Wait.

She stopped moving upon the familiar scent of fire once again and even though she knew she shouldn’t, she found herself following it.

Her stomach had a very difficult time not turning at the sight of bodies littering the streets as she got closer and closer to the scent that was enticing her.

Plumes of black smoke had now started to become visible from behind what looked like a Care Home for the elderly, zombies were crowded around building, throwing themselves at the door with such force that their bodies were breaking and falling apart, bones spurting from under their skin.

This is where the shopping centre was? She looked to her photo and that’s when her heart nearly fell out of her mouth, the shopping centre had been levelled in such a small amount of time that she could barely believe it; all those resources for survival were just...gone.

She wanted to explode with anger but the sight of the zombies trying to break through to the Care Home quickly helped her changed her mind.

Now she didn’t need to focus on the fire, the scent of the bodies soon washed over her and she couldn’t help the vomit that came racing out of her, gagging at the action and trying to stop, she choked.

The noise causing some of the horde to turn to her.

Their jaws opening and then snapping shut with a sickening clunk as their eyes stared blankly at her and yet still, they were filled with hunger.

Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she quickly took off as they gave chase.

She couldn’t run back to Felix; she would also lead them to him and even thinking of such an event made her want to be sick again.

Gripping the baton tightly in her hand, she swung around and managed to crack one of them around the head and to her horror, her hand nearly went right through the rotting skin.

“Holy shit,” she gasped and then continued to run, shaking her hand to rid of whatever was on it.

Even though she was winning in speed, thanks to her Hybrid ability, she could almost feel their fingers clawing at the back of her clothes, their snarls close to her ears.

She was starting to panic; her heart was hurting, and she could feel her entire body shake violently at the thought of being bitten into. Teeth ripping her flesh was such a frightening thought and she knew that she was very close to having that become a reality.

Jumping through a window, she took a second to turn around in hopes they wouldn’t follow so she could catch her breath at least, but no, they were clambering clumsily through the open window, jaws snapping still.

Clearly in an office building, she sprinted down the hallways blindly, eyeing the sign that signalled there was a fire door somewhere nearby and even though she was still shaking, she forced herself to move as the screaming echoed around the empty halls and rooms making it seem as if they were literally all around her.

“Lix,” she whimpered as tears rolled down her face, she wanted to see him again.

She skidded to a halt once she spotted the bright red fire door and charged towards it, pressing the heavy door bar down.

It didn’t open.

Her senses went cold, her hands now shaking to a point where she dropped her baton just so she could use both of her hands to press the bar.

Still nothing.

The screaming and groaning got closer and the noise of her whimpering and furiously pressing the door bar only allowed them to know exactly where she was.

That was when her legs gave out and she pressed her back against the fire door, hands grabbing the baton again to somehow bring her around.  

As the zombies scrambled over one another to get around the corner, she knew she wouldn’t be able to stand; her anxiety and panic were suffocating her.

Eyes shut, she just thought of Felix, a ray of sunshine in her last moments.

It was then that a door next to her that she hadn’t even noticed, swung open and immediately, blood splattered across the wall like some morbid artwork.

“Fire doors don’t open until the fire alarm goes off, Spots,”  

She looked up with a loud yelp at the sound of an actual voice, finding a slim man dressed in a white work shirt and black slacks, tie very close to being undone, holding a bloodied baseball bat in his hands; the top of it wrapped in barbed wire.

She flinched as the man swung said bat at the now, much smaller horde, bodies piled up and gushing with fluids.

Once he had finished the last one off, he then turned back to face her.

“Shitty safety precaution, thought everybody knew that?”

It's been quite a while since you left us and yet my mind can't fully accept that you are in fact, gone. I know I'm just a fan but it's a real grief and to know that people have taken the piss out of Shawols for simply grieving hurts like hell as, in a perfect world, the kpop scene would be a big family.

I remember when my little sister phoned the house, so early in the morning, practically sobbing, telling me to quickly go on the internet because you had been found and taken to hospital.

I had been in a deep sleep (for once) and to this day I don't think I have ever woken up that fast.

I sat in my bed all day and the next few days, hoping that you would be okay somehow but I think everybody knew that you would be leaving us.

Your music, your energy, your talent, your personality, your beauty, your dedication, your love for your fluffy daughter (who is being looked after wonderfully by your sister).

Jonghyun, you gave me so much strength in my darkest days and I only wish that I could have done the same for you.

Your brothers are doing so well and we are keeping an eye on them for you.

A selfish part of me is annoyed that I couldn't sort myself out (mentally as I am agoraphobic, I cannot leave my house) so that I could at least see you in concert, see you in your element, and cheer with my Shawol family as you made the stage yours.

You are so missed.

You did so well and I just hope you have found peace.

Every full moon I turn my lightstick on for you I know that sounds silly but the moon has become a symbol that represents you for not only Shawol but your brothers too!

This post is getting super long and I apologise. I know you aren't ever going to see it but I felt compelled to write something this year.

Maybe one day we'll meet. Maybe.

Thank you for everything; thank you for the messages on your radio show that stopped me from doing something awful.

E.L.F whom I love After one month(,) hello! Is everyone doing well? I've been doing well(,) too. ((Euhaha)) I've been thinking about whether (you guys) are well and not down with a cold and eating well or not... ^^ While reading the letters sent to me(,) I smiled a lot(,) but also a bit worried after reading the letters which contains words that make me feel (the writer's) tired heart~ There are people who asked if oppa is annoyed or if oppa is okay with the constant (letters) containing stories about (their) daily lives~ (You guys) are worrying about me instead(,) that's cute and it made me smile a lot~ Even though we can't see each other(,) I like how we're able to know that we're doing well on our own while missing each other in our own respective places. I hope everyone can feel the same while reading my letter~ ^^ Ah! Now even Eunhyukie hyung, Donghae hyung, Siwonie hyung have discharged and are all looking great! But at the same time my heart feels heavy. I have a feeling that everyone feels the same~ Everyone is excited for what's to come(,) right? I hope everyone can wait (for SJ) while thinking about good thoughts~ ^^ My heart feels all fuzzy inside while watching the members do activities on the TV~ They all look cool and I feel really secure and proud(,) that kind of feeling?!
