Random Narn Hair Headcanons

random collection of thoughts connected by the fact that they have to do with hair, whether physical appearance headcanons or cultural ones

Nellas has dark brown hair, often kept relatively short and almost always tangled with leaves. (Note: I'm not fully decided on this, I've seen both brown and silver hair Nellas designs and both are cool!).

-On that note I’m similarly divided for Beleg; so many artists

-Aerin and Huor both have reddish blonde hair as a child and teenager that gets lighter as they grow.

-talked about this here but Finduilas teaches Túrin how to braid her hair and it’s something they both find comforting

-Huor was also notable for always, always having his hair covering his eyes unless actively in battle. When fitting for a helmet, tresses had to be literally cut off.

-Many Bëorian woman cut or cover their hair after the death of a spouse however Morwen refused to do so until she received proof of death. I actually have a headcanon that Aerin develops a personal habit of covering her hair post Nírnaeth, especially when alone.

-Niënor's hair color is almost identical to Galdor, her paternal grandfather, which is lighter than his sons'.

-Túrin’s grows unusually fast and is perpetually unkempt. While he was a relatively well behaved child to his parents and household, he would often cry and squirm as a young child when his hair was brushed.

-Morwen’s hair is likewise quite unruly, and the waviest of her family

-Sador has salt and pepper hair that became grey early.

Boromir Week Day 2: Son of Finduilas, Maternal Family, Grief and Loss

Today's headcanon: When the Steward's family appears at functions, Finduilas always held her sons' hands, first to guide them as they toddled beside her, and later to encourage her eldest in his burgeoning leadership role. In the final days before her death, however, Boromir can't help noticing the gesture no longer seems to be a motherly habit, but a physical support she actually needs. He gets the sudden impression that the hot, bright sunlight in the Citadel plaza doesn't seem to touch her anymore, like she's already halfway out of the mortal world.

But! I hate leaving Finduilas suffering, so here she is wearing a concept of Boromir's recognizable travel outfit. I've always wanted to make a ren faire gown version of his movie costume like this. See his shield, horn, and cloak clasps?

I swear I want to draw the Valar and Mairon you guys requested, but I have massive problems with the designs :') nothing looks even slightly original.

I'm also super unsure about Turin ??? Doing something even slightly original with him is haaard...

The last batch happend because I drew Beleg and feared he'd look too much like celegorm. So I had to draw a whole bunch of silver haired elves for comparison

Thinking of fourth gen Finwëans because they always makes me laugh. Cause you have like:

Celebrimbor - born YT, killed Second Age

Idril - born YT, left First Age

Maeglin - born and killed in the mid First Age

Finduilas - born and killed in the mid First Age

Gil Galad - born First Age, killed very end of Second Age

Celebrian - born in Second Age, left mid Third Age

Just. The scale of time and experiences for Finwë’s grandchildren vs great grandchildren is wild 😂

Also they should totally have meet ups in Valinor. Elrond’s an honourary member.

But in terms of dynamics:

Celebrimbor + Gil Galad + Celebrian - Second Age besties. Get along like a house on fire to the older Finwëan generations ever increasing concern. Basically if Fëanor, Fingolfin, and Finarfin all got along (but switch some personalities and temperaments between them) and were left to their own devices. Add Elrond and we have the full house.

Finduilas + Celebrian - similar end of ME life experiences and idk. The vibes are there. First Cousins ftw.

Idril + Celebrimbor - Been through so much Rubbish from Fëanor and Fingolfin’s drama to the First Age chaos, they honestly just vibe. No hard feelings on either side. Fill in the younger members on the Family Lore.

Maeglin + Celebrimbor - Tyelpë’s feral adopted pet rat. “I was friends with Sauron, I can deal with this.” Forge buddies. Helping him adjust to society and come to terms with what was Morgoth’s fault and what was Maeglin himself.

Idril + Gil Galad - It weirds them out that they’re first cousins. Gil Galad’s lowkey annoyed that she left without at least saying hi. But he gets it.

Celebrian + Idril + Celebrimbor - Idril and Celebrian love their respective human/half-elf. Celebrimbor misses his mortal friends. They share all the stories.

Finduilas + Gil Galad - “…yeah we could probably be siblings. Also how was it away from the war but dealing with the fallout?”

Finduilas + Celebrimbor - Nargothrond besties. The first and only cousin she met. Finduilas is very much like a little sister to him.

Maeglin + Idril - Have a silent agreement to avoid each other unless others are around.

Maeglin + Celebrian - “What would you know of such matters, child.” “Born later, lived literally thousands of years longer than you, baby cousin.” Co-owns the feral pet rat with Celebrimbor. The only one who can match him word for word, her perceptiveness rivals his ‘sharp glance.’

Finduilas + Maeglin + Gil Galad - “don’t you just love inheriting curses?”

Finduilas + Idril - Architecture. These two come up with entire elaborate but functional plans in less than two hours. Probably built everyone’s houses. Celebrimbor sometimes joins.

Gil Galad + Maeglin - “You actually wanted to be crown prince???” “You didn’t??” “That explains so much.” Not surprised Maeglin got stuck in the family and High King curse. They don’t mind each other’s presence and pretty happily sit doing their own things in a room. Gil Galad’s doing this for Celebrian more than anyone else. AKA the reluctant pet sitter who got dragged into this mess by his best friends.

Boromir Week Day 2: Son of Finduilas (late)

Tried to do a more simple style, not really chibi though? Trying more stuff with Gondorian clothing, though I think I like my other designs more (as well as Faramir’s design)

I really wasn’t sure where to go with Finduilas’ design and am really loving @emilybeemartin take on her, so I hope you don’t mind me using your design for her 😭

Boromir Week Day 3: Son of Denethor, Paternal Family, Thorongil

Here is what we know: When Denethor was a young man, Aragorn served as a captain in Gondor under the name Thorongil. He was so skilled and wise that he soon became invaluable to Steward Ecthelion, which made Denethor jealous.

So here's today's headcanon: Ecthelion wants to keep Thorongil close while Denethor is constantly trying to edge him out, which means Aragorn is just constantly around. And Finduilas, as we know, is very, very lonely. She's alone in a world of grim, older military men, she dreads being so close to Mordor, and her husband has no emotional fluency. So when Thorongil speaks kindly to her and holds genuine conversations with her, it's one of the only friendly anchors she has. She sees him as closer to her in age--though he's not--and feels like he actually values her for more than just being a quiet, dutiful wife--because he does. He's there throughout her first pregnancy and when she goes into labor with Boromir.

Meanwhile, Denethor's attention has been on being valuable to his father. He's been hoping and praying this baby will be a son, because he thinks it will be what he finally needs to wrest Ecthelion's favor away from Thorongil and back to himself.

But while Ecthelion adores his grandson, he still relies on Thorongil's skills and leadership, and Denethor only grows more jealous. Recognizing this, and perhaps also recognizing that he's become a wedge between Finduilas and Denethor, Aragorn surprises everyone by making that abrupt decision not to return to Minas Tirith after the battle of the Corsairs.

TO BE CLEAR, I don't hc that Boromir and Faramir's parentage is anything other than what's laid out in canon. I'm just saying THERE'S A LOT OF MATERIAL TO WORK WITH HERE.
