We can answer this actually we love talking about Cool Art Stuff.

Despite what one may assume, sharp edges in watercolor is actually quite easy! Come, sit, allow us to share our secrets. It's like 50% "materials" and 50% "we spent a long-ass time figuring out how to do sharp edges in watercolor and now we're really good at figuring out the exact combos of consistency and brush stroke required to make those really hard edges"

The first trick is, of course, to not try and do it at the beginning of the painting. When you're just starting to block shapes in to your watercolor, pursuing sharp edges is a fool's ordeal, and you can only really get those sharp edges in as finishing touches near the end of the work.

The second trick is to work wet-on-dry - this limits the spread of the watercolor and allows you to prevent bleeding, but you have to make sure your painting is COMPLETELY dry before painting, or you'll risk having some ill-defined lines and bleeding.

The third trick is to work with... cake watercolors? There's a tern for it, we just can't remember it - dry pan watercolors, where you have to wet the paint to "activate" it, offer you a LOT more control over the consistency of your paint, and using a relatively thick paint will allow you some REALLY sharp lines! Fair warning, your mileage may vary based on the specific paints you use just because pigment is Expensive and cheaper brands of watercolor will almost definitely be, like, cutting out as much pigment as they can manage in order to cut corners, and the sharp edges will be less obvious the more transparent they are.

As a general rule of thumb when you pay for Fancy watercolor you're paying for the insane amount of pigment that they put in their Fancy Stuff and that lends itself a lot more to Sharp Lines (plus one thing of it will last Fucking Forever). The black we use Specifically is an Artisanal Fancy Brand that we don't remember the name of and we've been using the same ~$10 thing for more than a year without even using up half of it, but honestly the actual paints you use are the Least important part of doing watercolor, you can do like the exact same thing with dollar store paints it'll just be a bit less pigmented.

The fourth trick is to just, like, practice a TON. You WILL have to spend time getting it right. It will take a Long-Ass Time. You will have So Much Trouble. Unfortunately this step cannot be avoided but we can still warn you that you'll be trying to make really sharp lines for like an hour and it still won't quite work.

When you saw the news reports in 2021, in 2017, in 2014, 2011...when you heard "it's complicated", when you heard to the Zionist propaganda, when you saw the US publicly back Israel, you didn't for one second think, huh, maybe I should look into this. When you came across that one headline on Twitter about a child being arrested or killed by the IDF, no part of you went, let me look into this?

Not understanding the extent of Israels occupation i can get, but not even being aware of it? Until last year. How does that happened. I get so fucking upset when I realize how many people, just, took what was told to them, at face value, by the people who have, historically, backed every evil thing ever, and just went, yeah, you know what, I'm not going to do any reading on my own. i'm pretty sure there's a lot more different kinds of people though so i kind of wonder what it would have been like to grow up like that instead of in america, where culture is kind of separated and there's so much "theirs and ours" vibe going on instead of it being shared in the way it was in cambodia

Every day I wonder what it would've been like to not grow up in America. I'm not quite sure how to put this, but there's this like...conflict? Living and growing up in America when having non-American heritage?

Because despite wondering what it would've been like otherwise, I did grow up here and have very much been influenced and socialized by this place. But you're also always hearing about Americanization and the negative impact on other countries--including the country I'm tied to. So it's like. I am part of the perpetrator but also it's my people and heritage who are part of the victims. Which, gotta say, really conflicting place to be in and try and sort out.

There's this one poem by Gloria Anzaldúa that says: "in the Borderlands / you the battleground / where the enemies are kin to each other" and I have never stopped thinking about it because she nailed it on the head so perfectly. At least for part of my experience, which you reminded me of here.

But back to your point. There are so many different variations in backgrounds and experienced within each group, it's hard not to think about what if you'd been a different version. What if I'd been born in Mexico and taken to the US like my dad, instead of born here. What if I'd learned the language as a baby and then lost it, instead of never having it at all. What if I wasn't from the most well-know hispanic/latin country people are always reminding you not to default to? What if my dad hadn't lost the language and he'd been able to teach me? What if what if what if. Really quite the torturous though exercise, but I can't help it sometimes.

Anyway, I think I've gotten kinda distracted from your original point, but you inspired some thoughts. That's kinda how convos like these go, you always end up somewhere else just following the thread and thinking

ALSO IRT THE MOVIES LORE BEING DIFFERENT LIKE. idk how ppl are looking at a different canon as a bad thing rather than an opportunity to gather new information, like "what would this character do if xyz had happened" tells you so much stuff about that character !! for instance we can use mike's relationship with abby in this movie as a jumping off point to explore more about what michael afton wouldve done had elizabeth not died too, after directly causing his brother's death would he become more protective of elizabeth? would he push her away thinking himself to be the danger? or another one, another post pointed out that for game afton the springlocks failing is fast and complete, he has 0 choice how well he's locked in there and he essentially stumbles into possessing it, whereas for movie afton the springlocks are slow, he has time to think through his last act and specifically chooses to lock himself in there as hard as possible so he can come back, would game afton have done the same if his springlock failure was more like that? or would he have just died anyways and theres something about movie afton that makes him choose different, and if so what is that? and ESPECIALLY vanessa are you kidding?? idk abt yall, i personally was not pondering what the childhood of a vanessa raised by william afton wouldve looked like before the movie, but i sure am now. like how is that not super fun
