#Fanon Kakyoin

kakyoin and his parents are a really weird and underdiscussed part of stardust crusaders. on the watsonian level, there are multiple interpretations you could have of this, and i think its an interesting show of fanon for a character that is pretty beholden to fanon interpretations.

a fairly common consensus i've seen about kakyoin's parents are that they were abusive or at least maliciously negligent.

for the record, i am totally cool with this! kakyoin's family really isn't elaborated on in canon and you can take his subtleties a lot of ways. whether its whump for whumps sake or projection, people are free to interpret the empty holes however they wish.

that being said, i've found myself... idk. not opposed, but disinterested in that take, because the view of kakyoin and his family presented by canon feels way more interesting to me. here's my take & discussion on it!

[meta headcanon-ing below the cut]

from a very young age, kakyoin is an extremely private & emotionally isolated person. this is a trait he has developed from years of feeling like explaining himself to anyone was a futile juncture because no one would believe or understand him, not even his own parents.

when kakyoin's teacher informs his mother abt his lack of desire to make friends, mrs. kakyoin (at least in the anime; cant attest to the manga) shows concern and almost... futility towards the situation. it isn't that the other students don't want to befriend noriaki. rather, noriaki doesn't want to befriend them.

we actually see a similar sentiment in holly, at least through subtext. holly is not wholly unconcerned by jotaro, but she is overly accepting of his poor behavior and struggles to acknowledge her son's flaws. holly views jotaro as younger and less in control of his behavior than he is to the point of willful ignorance.

kakyoin, meanwhile, is in a constant fight with himself over "letting" DIO manipulate and brainwash him. kakyoin is often victim-blaming towards himself -- he is weak and should've known better, should have never let his fear consume him, should have never lost control of himself and given it to DIO.

(dubiously canon material ahead, but shining diamond's demonic heartbreak is vital to my interpretation of kakyoin. treat this as you will.)

kakyoin is at his most distressed and personally tormented when he feels weak and vulnerable. he laments this weakness in himself -- immaturity, he calls it, although that is a translation -- and says no one is to blame for what DIO did unto him except himself.

and all of this, if you continue treating this version of events as canon, is with the added layer that kakyoin was literally protecting his 8-year-old cousin (ryoko-chan <3) while fighting DIO.

(as a side, hierophant green's lesser used powers (notably utilized while kakyoin has a fleshbud and almost never again) involve extreme control and precision. he is quite literally shown to puppet others from the inside using hierophant while operating his own body as well. kakyoin himself says no one can understand him without hierophant green; it isn't farfetched to say hierophant green's abilities reflect its user.)

all of this to say: i don't believe kakyoin's family was abusive in the traditional sense. i think kakyoin is the adultified child to jotaro's infantilized one.

i don't doubt kakyoin loves his parents, but it stands to reason that -- like jotaro with holly, if not more so -- there isn't a respect for his parents authority. adultified children often develop a lack of trust in the people and agencies that are supposed to protect them, like parents or teachers.

if kakyoin has felt like he could only trust himself and hierophant green his entire life, how is he supposed to seek support or protection from his parents? i honestly don't think he would. with hierophant at his side, it's easier (less disappointing) to uphold himself to this extreme standard of strength and maturity than be vulnerable with anyone.

based on the flashback, i personally believe kakyoin's parents just... left him to his own devices. if noriaki doesn't want to make friends, it wouldn't be right to push him, is it? he's independent, well-mannered, an excellent student. responsible, trustworthy, far from a delinquent. so isn't it better to accept their son as he is?

as kakyoin is all shattered parts, crumpled against a water tower with a hole in his stomach halfway across the world, he looks at the clock and thinks of his parents.

...but not in search of comfort.

seeing as this is the first and only time kakyoin's parents are mentioned, i honestly wonder if kakyoin just... didn't mention them at all. if he didn't call attention, save the odd comment about being a student, to his age. to the immaturity he's so ashamed of.

kakyoin went on this fifty-day journey to egypt without even consulting his parents, who earnestly believe he ran away from home and are worried to death about him.

and kakyoin KNEW they would worry, and then he knows he is dying, and all he can manage is thoughts of them sleeping and an apology. he doesn't regret going on the journey. even as he's dying, 17-year-old noriaki kakyoin treats his own demise as a necessary loss. in kakyoin's mind, life is something he could (should) wager for those he cares about, and thinking of those who care about him in return isn't enough to convince kakyoin otherwise.

all of this to say, i think kakyoin and jotaro are two sides of the same coin.

It’s just the top/bottom bullshit where the name that comes first is the top, and the last name is the bottom (I know.) but if you were into jjk, you’d know how horrible the shippers are about this… and the ones who tend to ship stsg (not all but lord, it feels like it’s every last one of them…) tend to heavily feminize Getou and reduce him to simply being Gojo’s woman (I’m so serious). His personality is literally never the same… he’s just a girl™️ to most of them and Gojo, who is canonically a silly ass, man-child who’s never dated a day in his life and is most likely, a virgin, is all of a sudden, this sexy DOM who bends Getou over every night… never got over the artist who drew Abusive Gojo w Getou… sm stsg shippers tend to make Gojo abusive for some reason, it’s crazy to me knowing how kind he is as a character even if he’s a shit face. This isn’t even the worst of it… with Gego, I noticed that most of them are normal af. They tend to talk about canon and meta a lot and within the ship, they’re both usually depicted similarly or close enough as a fan could get, to canon at least. Not all of them since there are a bunch of fans who are into the domination/ “male-bitch,” kink and that’s unfortunately, super popular amongst them too but you don’t just run into it as often 😭… the male-bitch Gojo’s that I’ve ran across on PIXIV… that’s not my princess…… Sorry for going on and on… That amputee fem Getou fanart that went viral a while back on Twitter (or enough to have jjk fans complaining about how some shippers might as well just create their own OC’s because what the fuck), had me fucked up lol.

Ah I’m glad you’re enjoying it! A lot of times in fanon I feel that people cherry pick elements they like and cobble them together with traits they like. And usually that trait usually tends to be a super friendly little uwu baby. Idc if you like or do that but it frustrates me when that Frankenstein’s monster of a character becomes the norm in fan spaces when the original character is so cool. i subscribe to the popular fanon that kakyoin is pretty cold often and jotaro has a high body temperature but i add some nuance cause smoking really fucks with your circulation so at least in part 3 i think the trunk of jotaro's body (like his chest and stomach and back and stuff) is super warm but his fingers and toes are super cold. so i think kakyoin is intrigued cause he remembers jotaro being so WARM when he's leaning over him to take the fleshbud out but when they hold hands for the first time jotaro's are barely warmer than his own and it's only until he gets into jotaro's space again that he realizes his memories were right and jotaro is a space heater but only at his center. and he is so so endeared cause it's so exemplary of jotaro's whole thing and i can imagine kakyoin squeezing him so so tight while theyre hugging or whatever and jotaro is like kakyoin. what. and kakyoin just smiles into his chest and whatever. ugh. he loves holding him. he loves feeling jotaro

(( hello there to whoever is reading this !! ive kind of been meaning to make this post for a bit, ever since i started posting again, because just dusting off this blog and posting out of the blue is definitely... something!

God, people just won't shut up about the Typhlosion thing. I feel it's gonna be the new Vaporeon copypasta meme. -_-

Memes are meant to be funny, but every fandom just has some of those memes that completely mischaracterize a character and become really annoying? Like the Kakyoin memes from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure where the actual character gets overshadowed by an erroneous fanon that gets widely accepted.

Typhlosion is a cool Pokemon and one well-liked, but now all the meme pages are flooded with "Typhlosion beating the allegations" or "P. Diddy Typhlosion" or " Youtuber Typhlosion getting cancelled" and I'm just hoping this is a short-lived trend people tire of quickly.

Okay first of all I feel called out for the Kakyion meme thing, I was NOT expecting that to be referenced. Ow. Damn.

Second of all....yeah. Like for me, the whole thing makes me feel uncomfortable. Yes, I know that it's folklore! Yes I know that it's not even canon, so i'm not even gonna go like " hur-dur, I guess we know what they're called game FREAKS", cause I think that's fucking stupid. Still makes me uncomfy, which I don't think. Is bad????? I'm not a folklore person, but just from my barely passing knowledge of Greek Mythos, messed up shit ( by today's standards, I guess?), and it can be hard to really stomach ( I've seen people complain like " didn't we all learn about Greek mythology when we were younger, we should all know better" and. Lmao. No. Not everyone. That sounds pretty cool, but not everyone, stop assuming -). So like yes. It's folklore/ mythos that reflects how people saw pokemon back then. It's interesting! Also uncomfortable for me. And I think that's okay.

The thing is that this isn't really the first time human/pokemon relations have been alluded to in folklore or in written text before. And I think that's the key here. Before, these things were optional dialogue that you didn't even have to read. They were in a library,presented as folklore first, and that alone gives the player knowledge that what is being presented isn't exactly. Real. I mean it is in the sense that it's a story within the universe, but for the player it's just folklore. Even in PLA, which had the creepiest rendition of this with the froslass,still had proper set up for you to get to that point. The way we're even getting this information? From a fucking malicious hack, where misinformation is rampant and context is kinda out the window. We are pretty much thrown into this without warning, and it really shows! Because now people are annoying.

And like. I hate that Typhlosion is getting compared to real awful people. I hate that people are assuming the worst of the employees and devs. I hate that this is overshadowing the real issue of a lot of pokemon employees being doxxed, and their safety isn't secure. It really fucking sucks. Again, the whole thing just makes me uncomfortable, but like. I dunno, chill out guys. Please. Here's hoping it passes over quickly.

I made a post before, saying how I wish some things within the leak were kept hidden forever. It was mostly a reaction to my initial thoughts if the typhlosion and others leaks. But now, that changed to " I wish these were never revealed so pokemon fans can stop being annoying and weird". Sigh.....I feel really bad for typhlosion though. Wasn't my favorite starter but it was always pretty cool.

I really like the dynamic I’ve created for Jotaro and Kakyoin in a modern day setting.

Like, Jotaro got an after school gig and instead of going to college he’s took a gap year off the funds of said job, which is like some sort of warehouse or labourer thing because he can dead-lift three hundred pounds.

(The fact that he can deadlift three hundred pounds is also why his manager lets him smoke and drink outside on his breaks as long as nobody else sees him and it doesn’t affect his work, which is doesn’t because a can of beer isn’t going to knock him on his ass being 6’5 and like two hundred pounds himself*)

And Kakyoin is in college for some sort of business something because he also doesn’t know what to do but his very traditional Japanese parents overseas refuse to raise a NEET so he picked whatever had the highest graduate rate and games alone in his apartment after classes.

They’re roommates now but had been friends since they were kids and had reconnected literally by chance, as Jotaro had been working at said labourering gig at that time to pay for his Mom’s medical bills.

Side note: in this au Holly’s sick but more chronic illness sick, and after Sadao realized she wasn’t getting better and, in fact, it was a lifelong illness, he told her to leave. As the Japanese High End music industry is extremely judgmental and he was advised by several of his coworkers (and mistresses) that it would ruin his image if he was branded as a nurse and homebody taking care of Holly while Jotaro was at school.

With that in mind, Jotaro and Holly moved to America to live with Holly’s father, Joseph. Who is considerably more racist and far less charming for people to over look said racism. Suzy Q, his late ex wife and Holly’s bio-mom, noticed that after he gained a few pounds and suddenly didn’t have pretty privilege anymore.

She still barges into Joseph’s house to visit Holly and Jotaro, much to Joseph’s dismay. Jotaro likes her but finds her pushy and touchy without asking for permission first.

Jotaro worked at the same job he does now immediately after school to avoid the jokes and pokes at his father and about his race from Joseph, and seeing his mother try to walk again and cry when she can’t— Lining up perfectly one day when Kakyoin was walking (having just recently moved from overseas into the area of Jotaro’s job site) back from a later class.

Looking up from his phone he saw Jotaro, who was looking right at him from across the road, past the wire fencing set up to stop anyone from getting into the site and messing with the machines.

Kakyoin didn’t recognize Jotaro nearly as quickly as Jotaro recognized him. So as Jotaro long-jumped over the fencing and came barrelling into the street to the sidewalk where he stood, there was a split second where he thought he was going to die by the hands of a two hundred and fifty pound silverback gorilla. Like in the bootleg movie he had just watched the night before. And he wondered if this was the digital pirating god finally taking his dues.

Quickly, I should note, I remember seeing a post somewhere about how Jotaro’s love language is soft but he’d never let you get that close to him (the post included a picture of a teddy bear in a steel cage to represent this) and I think that fits very well with my own fanon interpretation of Jotaro’s character.

However, I do also think after so much time spent trying to help his mother, dealing with the weight of having to be the only reliable shoulder for her to cry on (because we all know THIS Joseph doesn’t have a emotionally intelligent bone in his body) and also the crushing feeling of grinding your body into a pulp for both school and some labouring job you hate— after about the year or so he had been there— would have had him clinging to those hinges by his fingernails.

So, bam! The last comfort of his childhood that hadn’t been ripped away, standing awkwardly at the crosswalk because he wasn’t sure if he should jaywalk because there were no cars coming, or if he should wait because the statistics of automobile casualties due to the average pedestrian’s immortality complex when it comes to giant metal machines are flicking behind his eyelids— obviously, Jotaro loses his mind.

Imagine a black bear. Giant. Huge, okay? Got that?

That’s what Kakyoin was suffocating into as Jotaro hugged him so hard his pre-mature stand popped out a little from his back.

This Kakyoin, having no fighting instincts what-so-ever, kind of just goes limp. And Jotaro, so happy he’s really really upset, shakily puts him back down.

And then there’s a moment like, wait wait wait wait. . . I know that mean mug— and then Kakyoin sort of connects the dots because Jotaro had always been a lot taller than him and also he literally was the only person Kakyoin had ever known that had let him blow out his birthday candles at his seventh birthday party when he found out Kakyoin’s parents didn’t ’believe in birthdays’ other than ‘milestone birthdays’.

And Jotaro had also treated him with basic human decency, considering he could have very easily bullied him.

So his face was burned into his memory for years now, whenever he tried to socialize and said the wrong thing, or if he saw a friend group doing friend group activities and suddenly he felt very very lonely. He actually really missed his and Jotaro’s friendship.

So they became best friends again like immediately.

It turns out in their time apart, Kakyoin had gotten an Autism diagnosis, which explained his unusual speech pacing and all the other things leading to ruthless bullying in middle school.

When he told him this on the floor of Kakyoin’s apartment— both of them doing a Pokémon themed puzzle together even though Jotaro had trouble picking the pieces off the floor— Jotaro could not have given less of a shit, but instead asked if that’s why, when the were kids, Kakyoin had always asked him for ‘pressure’ (AKA, Jotaro being taller than Kakyoin made it so he could give him a hug or lay on top of him in order to provide a good sensory feeling, or what Kakyoin had called ‘Pressure’).

And Kakyoin’s like, ‘Yeah.’

And Jotaro’s like, ‘Do you need some now?’ And mutters something about not wanting him to freak because he’s over whelmed or anything but really he wants a hug and doesn’t want to be the one to ask.

And Kakyoin’s like, ‘Sure. That’d be nice because I couldn’t enjoy the other hug properly when thinking you were a stranger trying to kill me’.

And now they’re roommates and Kakyoin streams his gaming seshes after he realized his parent’s monthly payments towards his rent were giving them ammo for guilt-trips and that he could make money off of games.

Weirdly enough, the same speech abnormalities he got bullied for actually helped him get his streaming platform, as it became his ‘brand’ in a way. Same thing with his flat humour and ‘fun facts’. Also, because he talks so much, his streams are very long, and there’s a running joke in his audience to— when he’s saying he’s going to log off for the night— ask him questions and see how long they can keep him on stream.

He doesn’t have a face cam, and plans to remain faceless to his audience, so whenever he really needs to focus and Jotaro comes lumbering in from a hard day at work and kicks his shoes off, Kakyoin—laying on the couch—raises his arms with his controller clicking over his head, not looking away from the screen, and is like ‘Jotaro, pressure. Streaming.’

And Jotaro hears Ode To Joy playing in his head as he tosses his ballcap with the company’s logo somewhere behind the tv and falls facefirst onto Kakyoin, who, after getting the air pressed out of his lungs, wins his match and talks to the chat.

The chat, obviously, asks about Jotaro, and Kakyoin just says, ‘A good friend of mine gifts me plus five stamina.’ Or some nerd shit.

* I headcannon Jotaro as fucking huge btw but that’s because I love very large angry men who, when relaxed, melts into a puddle of goo because their muscles aren’t straining. Jotaro has that kind of physique. Suzie Q (being Italian) loves this as Jotaro burns more calories flexing all day because he’s so stressed and tensed about everything, than a two mile sprint. So he eats. A lot. He’s one of the only people who actually eats enough not to have left overs. It impresses Joseph more than he’d ever admit.

My favorite character being Kakyoin has less to do with fanon, character development (it just ended up being one of many likes of mine later down the road), and overall importance to the story; I just like him cuz I kin him.

Bro games, has a lot of random but also oddly specific information about certain things, and is rebellious and petty underneath his straight A student persona. He doesn't even know half of the stuff he does or knows about is weird and I relate so hard.

something i find a bit amusing is how the jotaro x kakyoin ship are often portrayed in fanworks (at least the ones I see on Pixiv) as having the classic/stereotypical yaoi seme uke tropes. You know the ones. however, in comparison, jotaro x josuke is portrayed as more…balanced? from what I’ve seen. josuke is still the funny teen we all know and love, and i feel like a lot of the art (not all of them but yknow) wouldn’t register as romantic. This isn’t to disparage the fanon portrayal of Jotaro x Kakyoin, but it’s just funny that the age gap incest ship is depicted a bit more accurately to the source material, that I can look at a Pixiv post and go “yeah that can def happen in part 4 sans the kissing”.
