Royal Mail Letter Post: A Constructive Suggestion

It’s easy to criticise declining performance and increasing prices and this blog does so from time to time.  However, here’s a constructive suggestion for improvement.

To an increasing extent over several decades, the number of main letter sorting centres has been greatly reduced in favour of a small number of very large units.  For example, everything posted over an area of two or three counties is now taken to the massive centre in Feltham, south London.  Think of the extra cost in drivers, vehicles and fuel before even getting to environmental issues.

Larger post boxes could have a one off replacement with a compartment for local mail and a separate compartment for other post.  The incentive to Jo Public is that using the right compartment will help to speed up delivery.  Most letter post originates from businesses and they should be offered incentives to separate their outgoing mail between local areas.

It can be done.  There will always be a need for the letter post (and Royal Mail if they are loyal to their customers and employees).  Royal Mail need to think of their long term future as opposed to an endless cycle of price rises, cuts in service and more road miles per letter.

Gas explosion in Southall damages building and injures three

A suspected gas explosion on Western Road in Southall has left a two-storey building with a shop and flat above significantly damaged. The incident happened yesterday afternoon, prompting the response of six fire engines and approximately 40 firefighters from Southall, Feltham and surrounding fire stations.   Part of the first floor and loft space was damaged by a subsequent fire that followed the explosion. Two men and a woman who were inside the building at the time of the explosion managed to escape before the firefighters arrived. They were taken to the hospital by the London Ambulance Service crews. There have been no reports of any other injuries.   Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution and road closures were put in place. The London Fire Brigade's Control Room received eight calls about the incident with the first coming in at 1:29pm. We met them on a very cold foggy morning to do their engagement photo shoot. We went to Terrace Garden by the river in Richmond and Richmond Park. Regardless of the cold foggy weather, the couple was having fun and enjoyed the shoot and showing their warmth and love to our cameras and each other. We gathered in a town hall in Feltham. The wedding was held in The Garden Room, Feltham Lodge, Hounslow Register Office, West London, England. The mood and style were different from their engagement shoot. It is bright and colourful. May their marriage be just like the end result of their wedding photo - bright and colourful! Some musicians surprise us by doing what they should not have done. For instance, Talk Talk shocked us this way – yes, you heard the story before in here, but I like that tale. They had an opportunity to do anything they wanted, which they transformed into both Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock. One continues to be baffled by how they changed their previous styles, even though one can notice the traces of that in the previous records. Sure, they were not as pronounced as they could've been, but they were there. Moreover, their post-rock continues to be stronger than that of a lot of players in this genre. The thing is I believe Talk Talk used the emotional palette the style provides more than many who followed them.

Firefighters called to Harlington garage fire

A fire broke out late yesterday on Browngraves Road in Harlington, prompting a response from approximately 25 firefighters in four fire engines.   The fire destroyed the garage completely and a portion of a nearby property and a car were also damaged. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.   The London Fire Brigade received the call at 10:04pm and managed to bring the fire under control by 10:59pm.   Firefighters from three nearby fire stations, including Hayes, Heathrow, and Feltham, responded to the emergency.   The cause of the fire is suspected to be accidental, with water ingress into the electrical supply cited as the possible reason.   An investigation into the incident is ongoing.   #fire #browngravesroad #harlington #firefighters #garagefire #incident #noinjuries #hayes #heathrow #feltham Read the full article
