For #FilAmHistoryMonth and #Inktober I thought I’d learn about Philippine mythology using the #Engkantober prompts @malamaya.Noel put together a few years back! Second is the Batibat 🛌 Beware the Batibat, otherwise known as Bangungot, a literal Nightmare. A heavy spirit that lives in fallen trees that will sit on you as you sleep until you suffocate. Wiggle your toes to wake up, or you may be scared to death with a post-mortem diagnosis of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome.

Based in Chicago, Kristel Becares is a Filipino-American illustrator, artist, and visual storyteller.
"As a student of life, I create art inspired by all my fascinations of the world. Woven into my work you can find elements of history and nature, mythology and theory, human behavior, and language. As a person experiencing life, I create art because of how miraculous it is to exist in this world. My work is driven by beauty and angst, love and limerence, memories and dreams, and all my varied fixations. Whether in a painting, drawing, comic, or poem, there is a piece of myself and a piece of the world each trying to make sense of one another."
She has an incredible piece available for purchase in HYGGE online art exhibition:
The Tripartite Soul (2022), watercolor and colored pencil, 22” x 30”

Third is a Kapre - the source of my username 🥭 This dude (affectionate) is like if bigfoot was a massive stoner, but instead of being weary of embers dropping from his towering toking each puff produces fireflies! If you find a Kapre in a Kawayan (bamboo), Mangga (mango), Akasya (acacia), or Balete (banyan) grove beware, they’ll get you lost in the grove and only let you return once you steal the tiny pearl they carry.
